Ila adds, not making eye contact with anyone. "If we cover the upstairs entrances, we need only worry about him leaving by water... which will make him an easy target."

So, which doors are you guys approaching? There are multiple choices: The patio has a staircase leading downwards to the lower floor, and a double door leading to the ground floor. There is the front door, and there is a door on the right side of the building, on the walkway that snakes around it.

Also I'd like people messing with doors or going onto the patio to give me Stealth checks.

Ila concentrates on the lessons of her mother and father, and lets the familiar feeling wash over her, touching each person in turn, that will allow her, and instilling them with that same feeling of safety. Bestowing the effects of guidance before their clandestine operation!

Ila slips towards the patio, doing her best to be quiet... when she discovers the side door, she frowns a little. There were way too many doors to this place. As she moves forward, that soothing feeling vanishes.

Mavarro strokes his chin during much of their stakeout, uncharacteristically quiet if only because he had little to add to everyone's planning. It's not like he had ever broken into someone's home to kill them before. It did not help that he could not see in the dark. What a wonderful night this is going to turn out to be.

He stays where he is for the time being, not exactly well-equipped to sneak around.

"I'll take the front door then." Auraelia looks down at the gnome with her pitch black eyes and grins. "Nary, would you care to join me?"

Auraelia thanks Ila for her blessing, and similarly invokes protection for herself, calling upon the spirits to shield her from harm. virtue +1 tmp hp, woo!
Taking Ila's cue, she begins heading towards the front door. "Great spirit of the Horned Owl, grant me your boon," she prays silently to herself. As she does, her hair seems to dull in color to a greyish-brown tint, and her facial features sharpen. In addition, the sounds of her armor and footsteps seem to become muffled, as if they were being padded by something. Focus(Owl): +4 competence to stealth

"Okie dokie," Nary affirms - still pleasant and cheery. Inside, though, her stomach is in knots. For one she is still not entirely convinced that this isn't some elaborate scam...perhaps to kill her and harvest her gnome organs for foreign nations... But worse, if this was actually legit, maybe it still wouldn't be enough to help her sister. And then she'd be alone.

She doesn't watch where she is going, and ends up stepping on a creaky floorboard.

With Aurelia going for the front door, Aaron heads toward the patio, trying to keep his movements silent. "Let me go first. I can take more hits than you," he whispers to Ila as he tries to avoid making the old wood creak. "F*cking old buildings. A bigger threat to stealth than any guard."

Front door, Auraelia + Nary

Nobody notices Auraelia and Nary while they plod around the front door, though it is to be noted that the front door is solidly locked with a padlock. There used to be a lock built into the door, but apparently it was smashed (leaving a little hole in the door) and never properly replaced. Instead, a bar goes through the two handles of the front door, secured by a padlock.

Aaron and Ila are similarly not accosted going onto the patio deck. Though they make a little sound walking around on the patio, they can reach either door (though they discover both doors are locked).

Nary keeps Auraelia between herself and the door at all times. She peers at the padlock, then at the warrior woman in front of her.

Damn. Brought the wrong tool!

Nary thinks for a moment, then beams at Auraelia, beckoning her to follow. She circles around to Aaron and Ila, spinning her walking stick in a circle as she goes. Once she finds Aaron, she grins at him.

Yup. This guy.

"Bet you know what to do!" She winks at him - grinning. Nary clearly hadn't any cares about breaking and entering...

Ila stayed where she was, on the other side of the walkway, keeping an eye on the back door while the man who was good with picking locks went to work with the front door. From there, she was left alone to fidget, while letting her eyes steadily grow accustomed to the lighting.

Just to be clear, it's dim moonlight everywhere outdoors. Nary can see just fine.

Maria shakes her head without smiling. "No." she says. "I don't make a habit of breaking into peoples' houses. This, however, is a exception to what I would consider normal rules."

Aaron spends a little more than ten seconds fiddling with the lock on the patio door, his tools clinking in his hands.

His second a attempt springs the lock open while Auraelia, Nary and Ila watch.

Clearly her hearing could use some work, though. She frowns. "Well, isn't that just fine and dandy. Well, are you gonna do us the honors and open the door, big guy?" She grins at Aaron.

Ugh! Dogs. Least this guy looks like he's survived fights against bigger things than dogs...

She moves closer to stand ten feet behind Aaron.

Nary is gonna ready herself to use Speak with Animals as a spell-like-ability, whenever someone opens the door. If she sees the dog, the dog is alone, and the dog is being aggressive, she's gonna talk to it! Hopefully being spoken to will at least distract it for a moment. Also I totally wanna bluff roll vs a dog, dammit.

Aaron nods slowly. "If it attacks us, it's going to wake the entire place barking. We get one chance to make this work before it turns into us storming the place."

He draws his ax in case anyone else is right inside the door then very slowly opens the door, ready to react to the dog if it either attacks them or starts barking to wake the house.

Ila calmly waits where she is, and watches the others work. She fidgets on occasion, and probably doesn't pay nearly as much attention as she should to the house, instead double checking other nearby locations as well.

The room that Aaron steps into is quite large - thirty by twenty feet, and mostly open floor. In the northeast corner is a huge trough filled with filthy seawater. It smells strongly of fish in this room, and the floorboards are wet with seawater and fish blood.

On the opposite side of the room from Aaron lies a door, and there's another door directly to his left. A desk covered in papers and such and a closed cabinet decorate this room.

Emerging from underneath the desk is a dog - large, scarred, mangy and mean-looking. It growls and bares its teeth, and walks slowly towards Aaron.

Medium or small dog?

Nary grins, and though she keeps Aaron between her and the dog, she steps out so she is in view - and starts barking at it like an insane person (though sanity is a matter of circumstance for gnomes). She fixates it with an intense stare as she does so - her vivid blue eyes shimmering with something else.... it's hard to break eye contact with Nary.

Hypnotic Stare on dog as a swift action. -2 to Will Saves for dog.

"Yip yip! Yip yip yip!" she barks at it, as cheerful as a dog could bark. "Rrrrrr! Yip yip yip! Yip yip yip yip?" She sounds like one of those tiny little terriers that rich people like to carry around as fashion accessories.

Nary speakin' dog:
"Hi there! You look like a good dog! I'm Nary! I'm Mr Lamm's friend! Are you Mr. Lamm's friend? Do you know where he is right now? Is he sleeping?"

Nary lies to a dawg: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Nary diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25 In case you think this is more appropriate than bluff for the situation.

She keeps her voice low - not barking as loud as an actual dog would bark. She figures that dogs can hear pretty well, so no need to speak up, right?

"Anyway I've got some friends here with me. Me and them and my buddy Mr.Lamm have fish stuff to talk about. They're nice, but they're too dumb to speak dog. What's yer name, dog?"

She looks back at Aaron, as if this was just a normal sort of thing people did. "He's real nice! He's a dad and has got five grown pups. But they moved away."

Ila sat at the other end of the house, steadily reciting, backwards, all of the names of people she had remembered having died. It was a good mental exercise. It was hardly whole, but as she tilted her head back and forth like a metronome, it gave her something to think about while she had no idea what was going on on the other end of the 'house'.

Aaron steps inside carefully, still wary that the dog might snap at them. The last thing he needs is some mutt barking and ruining his chance at Lamm's head. "That depends. If you're robbing, you scout the rooms one by one, find the valuables and pick what you can carry easiest, then clear out once your bag is full. For assassinations, you find the fastest route to your target, kill them, then get out the way you came in." His explanation is calm, almost clinical. "Since we're here for a rescue mission and an assassination, I say we do a little of both. We search room to room to find the children and let them out, then go straight for Lamm. Then I'm going to have a chat with him." His grip on his ax tightens again and he smiles slightly.

She walks up to Nary and ruffles her hair playfully. "Well they definitely don't teach us that, although we Shoanti don't have schools. Very useful trick, Nary." she says with a smile as she looks down at the gnome.

Nary walks quietly up to each of the doors and listens for any noises on the other side. As she moves, she scopes the room, hoping to find shiny things...though she was doubtful that this gross place would have anything of value. She wrinkles her nose at the horrible smell.

This is the grossest hideout ever.

As Nary can't read she more or less ignores the desk - eyes only flicking over it in search of stray coins or the like.

Sorry, all of my games have become busy at once. :P As has my life! I'd intended to move my character inwards last night, but it must have been one of the tabs I closed, as Paizo is currently open in... twelve tabs! (Along with a pair of maps, two statblocks, and Caboose Quotes from RvB.

Ila can just make out Auraelia waving her towards the front as she looks that way for a moment. She glances at the rear entrance once more, and then moves towards the front of the building, brushing her hair away from her eyes as she rejoins the main group.

She slips in after them, and makes her way towards the desk in the corner. She was a fan of the written word, just as much as anyone, and while she expected Lamm didn't exactly write children's novels, she wanted to see what was in his ledger. At least the things that weren't in red, so to speak.

Lamm's papers all over the desk are mostly accounting sheets - money earned versus money spent and the number of transactions for how many sailor's dumplings.

There is a locked drawer in the desk and a locked cabinet nearby the desk and you can't really find anything in the unlocked sections.

Auraelia, tuning her nose to her nature spirits, catches the scent of her daughter. It appears that she's spent quite a lot of time in this room, actually, and her scent proceeds to one of the doors - the one nearest the door that they entered from.

Bloo wags his tail and noses Nary for a few pets before he goes to the center of the room and just sits down.
