All right Fray, since your the first player you get first picks for Legionnaires. As mentioned before, each player will run 2 characters, typically each ran in separate groups. We can simply refer to them as Group 1 and Group 2 to avoid confusion.

You can pick 2 Legionnaires or pick 1 and create your own. Which option do you want to go with?

Yes, alive or dead is fine, though I would ask that you stick with the Legionnaires from Adventure Comics through Superboy Starring the Legion of Super-Heroes, I'd say nobody who joined after Blok. The reason for this is because I haven't learned enough about these characters to get comfortable with them.

Hi Eileen!

I'm willing to give it a try...Let me know if I'm in...

I'd love to get in on this as well. Please let me know if that is possible. Also what type of rules are you planning on using?

I know which characters I would like to choose, but I am not sure if you are having that done in order or not?

Character Choice:
1) Brainiac 5
2) Created character much like XS (superspeed power- XS is the granddaughter of Barry Allen, the Flash, but I would rather have the name Blur as one I am not a fan of the name XS and two as the Legion was always in some form or another honoring Superman, the Blur references the Smallville name).

I can take you in Larry Lichman. You'll need to select a Legionnaire to play, beginning from the Adventure comics on up to Superboy and the Legion of Superheroes. Timber Wolf has alrady been selected so we'll have to pass on him.

For the second character you can either pick a second Legionnaire or create one of your own. Give it some thought and get back to me.

Thanks for showing interest in my play testing.

** spoiler omitted **

Hi SQuigley316, of coarse you can play. This game is meant as a play test for the rules I've created for the game. Were not using a professional game, were using the game I've been making for the last year and a half.

I'm not requiring characters to be taken in any particular order they appeared in the comics, though I am limiting it to those ranging from Adventure Comics through Superboy and the Legion of Super-Heroes.

What characters did you have in mind? If you want you can pick one and create one of your own or you can select two. I stat out all Legionnaires and then run it past you for any corrections or changes you'd like. I need to create stats for them anyway to further complete the game. Timber Wolf is already taken.

A home made character that you make uses the same rules as I use to create Legionnaires. The home made character you had in mind was also taken (someone with Flash like speed), so I'd like to persuade you to come up with a new idea.

Thanks for showing an interst.

It's cool...
SQuigley316 can have a Flash type character. I'll make something else.

Eileen, put me down for Ultra Boy and the Invisible Kid.

Thanks for letting me in!

Can you send me the ruleset to sstjohn1@yahoo.com?

fray you should totally take the speedster as you joined the game first. Eileen could I take Rond Vidar as my second and even though it occured after the era that Blok joined the Legion around 1980 or 81 iirc could I give Rond the Green Lantern ring that he had as the last Green Lantern?

Ultra Boy and Invisible Kid are fine choices. I'll send you some rules to get acquiated with. This weekend.

I'll stat the characters on Mon-Tues for you and send them to you. I work all the way through the weekend and I work 12 1/2 hour shifts so that's the reason for the delay.

You can but I actually haven't read the comics which allowed him in so I really don't know much about the character. Did the Legion change their code about having a natural power? Can you give me a brief synopsis of how he joined? It would help me.

The goal is to playtest what I've worked out so far, do we can give it a try.

Before receiving the Green Lantern ring, he was a genius at temporal theory and immune to super-hypnotism. He was given membership after the Legion defeated Universo (his father). He is just another genius like Brainiac other than having the Green Lantern ring.

Go to Good bio of Rond Vidar pre-Green Lantern ring

Yes, I do recall him before the ring, can you give me a breif story of how he got the Ring, or was that covered in Legion of 3 Worlds? I did read that as well. Was their more to the story than that?

Powers and Abilities:
Powers- Bearing a Green Lantern Ring, he can make energy constructs of anything his mind can think of. His constructs are based on will power.

Abilities- He possesses advanced knowledge of temporal mechanics

Strength level-A scientific, genius level intellect; like other Green Lanterns, he was chosen for his ability to overcome fear.

List of things a Green Lantern Ring can do.

On this list I would be more concerned with;

Energy Projection, Energy Constructs, Flight, Galactic Encyclopedia, Universal Translator, Force Field, & Material Alteration(so he can get by on Earth where Green Lanterns would be banned)

Is there a way to send another user on here an email without posting my email address for all to see?

Any questions about character creation at this point?

(Female Human, Suloise and Baklunish descent Cleric, 11th level)

Ok, as far as I can tell, each of you should have a:

1. Blank character sheet
2. Chapters 1, 2, 3 and 6.

If someone got missed let me know.

The combat rules will be coming most likely on Friday.

I'll also send each of you chapter 5 as well. This deals with power creation.

I'll be off on Friday, Saturday and Sunday if anyone has questions. We can always chat on google to complete things faster.

I did not get any of the rules or character sheet as yet. Eileen please send it to both email addresses I provided you. Thank you

Chapter 2
Chapter 3
Chapter 6
2 Character sheets

Hi Eileen!

I received a blank character sheet. Was I supposed to get completed character sheets for my two Legionnaires as well, or should I try to create them myself?

Let me know the scoop. I'm really looking forward to this. Haven't played a Supers game in quite a while...

I was falling behind on getting characters put together so I'm hoping to get some help. Lost of work, not enought free time.

The Basic traits (page 1) you can fill out. Give Invisible Kid an Intellect of Astonishing/9 (which is equal to a scientist from earth).

Chapter 6, the last couple of pages show how fast one can move and lift so use that as your guidline for those stats. You should be looking at a Speed of Average/5 to Good/6.

Ultra Boy should have a two strength scores, one for normal and the other with his power. I'd give him Ultra/14 for Strength and Exception/7 when he isn't using his super strength.

The other stats are more your choice in how you perceive the characters. Average/5 is pretty normal for a super-hero, while regular people are usually below that.

Starting on page 2 are the area of expertise. The book should follow you through this, the only thing I ask is to limit yourself to no more than Epic/12 and to go by how you perceive the comic book character to really be. Most areas of expertise can still be used even if you don't have them. Pretty much going on the honor system at this point in time. Hope that helps.

I just sent out Chapter 6: Heroes Take Action. I made some changes primarily to initiative. The previous document can be discarded.

Everyone doing OK, anyone need help with a character? I should have time to put together 1 or 2 more.

Eileen if you could take a shot at my characters (Brainiac 5 & Thom Kallor) it would be greatly appreciated. I have not had a ton of time to read over and digest the rules as my son has been sick of late and my job has also taken a lot of my time as there has been layoffs recently and there are rumor more may be on the way and I need to make myself seem indespencible.

I sent back Invisible Kid, he's playable as is. We can add some Personality qualities a little later on. If you think of ways to use his power in other ways other than simple invisibility (power stunts) let me know and we can add those as well.

I did mean to ask a question though. I noticed that you didn't take any Manuevering AOE with transports, you got repair and navigation but not Manuevering, feel free to add it if you like.

I haven't looked at Ultra Boy yet but it is scheduled for today.

Cheliax (Male Lich Instructional Designer 5/Ordinary Average Guy 10)

Thanks, Eileen!

I left Maneuvering blank as I envisioned IK as being better at plotting courses and repairing vehicles than driving them. I figured he would just use the Untrained option for maneuvering, if it came up. Of course, I would change this if I found out the Untrained Modifier was higher than I would be comfortable with...

The untrained modifier should be -4 categories below your basic Agility trait. This would put you at Poor/3 category, thus a +3 to the die roll.

This sounds like fun. Is there room for me. I would like to play Wildfire and Princess Projectra. I have never tried a pbp but it sounds interesting.

I think we can work that out. Neither of those characters have been spoken for, so it should be fine. Here's my email address so you can contact me about the characters.

Jump right in when your ready Larry. Invisible Kid, Lightning Lad, Shadow Lass and Wildfire are on a flight to a mysterious planet.

Thanks again.

Hello,

I am Red Arrow from the Legionworld forums. I have alot of experiance with text-based Internet RPGs, and I play Final Fantasy so I know the basics. I hope to increase my skills, and maybe I can be valuable for demographics testing (I am only 19).

I would like to play as Shrinking Violet.

Sounds good Red Arrow, each player has 2 characters they are playing at different times in the game, basically they are broken down into group 1 and group 2. The idea of each player having 2 characters is to get more of an overall feel for the Legion organization. In addition it allows for more complex plots so that both groups can work on the same mission but from different angles. Optionally there can be two seperate plots going at once, much like you'll find in a Legion comic book.

You can take Shrinking Violet as one of them and either select a Legionnaire not already taken or you can create a character of your own who is part of the Legion. I can help you walk through the character creation process if you like.

I'm off today and tomorrow, so if your available, we get you going plenty fast.

For my second character I would like to create a character called Defense Kid. He would have immunity to telepathy and the ability to manipulate organic matter (Like Elixir from New X-Men).

Unbeknowest to the group, he's a villain from the future who's trying to disrupt events.

That is fine with me. I rarely create good characters so this will be a challenge.

Here's some information on Elixir, maybe it will be helpful:

It's classified as biological manipulation: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_comic_book_superpowers#Biological_mani pulation

hmmmm. how does the stretching power work in this rule set. Am thinking of that as one of the main powers of my low power toon. Are there range modifiers for punching someone at a distance and like that?

Valegrim wrote:

I would create the power for you. I would think I would treat it as a ranged attack. Basically make an attack roll and apply range modifiers, very standard.

Power effects that are used at a distance have the range characteristic. There are six ranges within the Legion of Super-Heroes game; Point Blank Range; Close Range; Optimum Range; Standard Range; Long Range; Extreme Range; and Remote Range. Each range provides a positive or negative modifier to be applied to the d20 roll.

The standard range of a power effect is the distance the ability may be used without incurring a positive or negative modifier to the d20 roll. The range in the characteristic block is standard range. Most power effects have a standard range of 25’ x the trait category. All other ranges are a factor of standard range. The distance for optimum, close, and point blank are determined by dividing the standard range by a factor shown on the Distance Chart on page xxx. Long, extreme and remote ranges multiply by the standard range by a given factor to determine their distance limitations. I would treat Stretching as a Line attack.

Lines: A line attack is a straight line from the attacker to the target without objects to obscure one’s view. Lines end when they reach the target, an unintended person, creature, or object, or it reaches the end of its remote range, whichever comes first. A line power effect has a +0 modifier applied to the d20 to-hit roll. Various other modifiers are applied to lines as shown on the Distance Chart on the following page. Your attack would utilize a d20 roll, modified by the range your attack is made at. You would select your category and that category determines your standard range, the remaining ranges are either multipied by the standard range (for attacks far away) or divided by your standard range (for close attacks). The range limits and modifiers would be as follows:

Point Blank Range: Standard range divided by 8; +15 to-hit
Close Range: Standard range divided by 4; +10 to-hit
Optimum: Standard range divided by 2; +5 to-hit
Standard Range: For Stretching, I'm thinking 10 feet per category?; +0 to-hit
Long Range: Standard Range x2; -5 to-hit
Extended Range: Standard Range x4; -10 to-hit
Remote Range: Standard Range x8; -15 to hit

MOVEMENT OF Attacker AND TARGET
Subtract Speed or Agility category numbers from the to-hit roll for the caster and target movement

LINES, CONES AND SPHERES
Lines: +0 to the to-hit roll
Invisible target with line: -30

Here’s another example of how range works: In Superboy starring the Legion of Super-Heroes issue #210, Soljer’s Private War; three Legionnaires; Superboy, Lightning Lad and Phantom Girl are outside the Metropolis conducting a training session. Lightning Lad uses his Aim category of Powerful/12 to attack Superboy. Garth’s standard range is 25’ × his category number, a total of 300 ft. (25 ft. x Powerful/12 = 300).

Lightning Lad strikes from a stationary position and because he is not moving, no modifier is applied to the to-hit roll. Superboy on the other hand is attempting to dodge the bolts of Lightning and he is moving at a speed of Super/15, so the Representing Player for Lightning Lad would subtract -15 from the to-hit roll.
In this example, Superboy is flying 82 feet away which is close range, so Lightning Lad applies a +10 to-hit. Superboy is flying at a speed of Super/15 which subtracts a -15 modifier. Finally, Lightning Lad’s bolts are a line which provides a +0 modifier. Adding and subtracting the total modifiers (Close range +10, speed Super/15 -15, Line +0) the total is -5, Lightning Lad makes his attack at -5 to hit

(Male Efreeti, advanced manthing 35HD)

Hmm; in most game systems the advantage of stretching was to avoid range penalties as you continuously take up, occupy, all the squares your stretched into; just a thought. Penalty is also that as you occupy those spaces; things that move through those spaces can contact you; ouch if your at your stretch limit. Most animation, like in comic and movies; has stretchy people stretch their torso and their head and perspective is not far from their hands; while their feet can be some distance away.

Also; they seem to be able to do some kinds of snap back damage as the grab hold of something at a distance and bring their body back toward themself at speed; just something to consider.

Hi, my name is David, I was interested in tring a PBP game and I see you do super-heroes, thats sort of my thing to. Interested?

I'd be interested in playing Timber Wolf and creating one of my own. Hows that sound.

My homemade character would be named Gorlog and he would have the powers of Super Strength, Invulnerability, the ability to communicate with the ground in sort of a empathy like way.

I have some of his origin worked out because I draw comics and he's one of my favorites, I thought maybe I could play him in the game.
