Glass Lion:

It was Fall and the villages were sending their hard-worked for rice to the Clans that governed their land. All was in order, except for one village in the Lion's lands. The head-farmer of Chibasu was an honorable man and so was his father, so the mishap irked some of the Lions. Especially those of the immediate area, and the area's Daimyo, Kitsu Miro.

The recent wedding of the Glass Lion had proved that Kitsu Miro wasn't boastful of her clan's winning of the duel over the Kakita. It was a rare occurrence, but she spoke calmly to the Cranes present and withheld the pleasure of her clan's honor being kept alive from her expression. The Cranes were irked underneath their words, but remained civil in their defeat. Kitsu Miro did, however, ordered her retainers to perform the Lion's Roar before the feast, a well known drill between those of the Lion clan and most of the other clans. They lined up and moved as one, shouting out the words of bushido before they shifted stance or drew their weapon or sheathed their weapon, "Jin! Yu! Rei! Chugo! Gi! Meyo! Makoto!"

But today, Kitsu Miro invited the Glass Lion to her manor. At the end of a long hallway, with the sliding doors decorated with fish patterns and the inside walls decorated with pictures of the Kitsu daimyos before her, Kitsu Miro sat upon her mat, welcoming her advisors and her guests with the same look. They bowed deeply to her and she bowed lightly to them. Her servants ran around the manor, collecting and placing more mats and serving the house-brewed tea to those present. Kitsu Miro had waved her tea to be set aside, for now.

Crane and Ex-Dragon:

The bridges over rivers, the trees losing their color, and the sky bringing cooler winds held tell-tale signs of fall; with winter approaching at a steady pace. Ox-pulled carts filled with sacks of rice rolled by on the dirt roads, taunting the currently ration-less Ex-Dragon. Thankfully, the farmers who noticed the man only spoke of him in whispers to each other. One farmer had offered some of his own personal stock of rice to the travelling man, but that was days ago. And deer tend to sense his doom bird before she can strike any of them down, so the hunting wasn't the greatest.

Meanwhile, the Crane, whose clan had prepared for her departure, had offered enough rations in the form of rice balls and other delectable treats to reach the city of Rugashi, a major trade center in the Lion's lands. Her father had granted her 100 gold pieces in a small pouch for her supplies once she reached the city and her mother had penned her favorite nightly poem personally, its official seal and obvious Crane scroll case making it clear who it was for.

Crane entered the city from the North, while Ex-Dragon entered from the East bridge. Both entrances were watched over by Lions, the Ex-Dragon receiving scrutinizing looks, but remained silent. They inspected each of the farmer's carts briefly before passing them through. Inside the city, Lion samurai patrolled the streets, which were filled with buyers and sellers of everything. There was recently cooked fish, taverns, stalls where others cooked ramen up, art salesman, jewelry for sale, and smiths of all kinds hard at work to produce more goods.

Phoenix and Secret Phoenix:

Turmoil was rising in the normally peaceful Elemental Council meeting. The chamber was sealed in the great hall, with Shiba Ninto, the Clan Champion and voice piece for the Council nearby, just outside the five ringed door. The hall was filled with courtiers, more so than usual with the recent political pushing from the Dragon clan. Each discussed their areas of interest freely between the other members, some interested in artifacts, metals, magics, and even spirits. But each was waiting for the meeting to end to hear what the Council had to say.

Inside the innermost chamber, 5 people sat on mats facing each other. Asako Heishi, the Master of Air and Jade Champion, dressed in a white and gold trimmed robe the Asako family mon of a flaming feather held in a hand on his back, was gesturing with emphasis, “We cannot ignore the Bloodspearker Cult! They must be sought out and wrung dry of members!”

The oldest member of the Council, Isawa Hitomi, the Master of Water, with her greying hair tied neatly in a bun, laughed graciously, her clear eyes seeking Asako Heishi’s, “And who will we convince that they still breath? The other clans do not share your ideals, but they are such wonderful tale-tellers. I hear of you often from them.”

Isawa Moroto, Master of Earth, a young, but taciturn man, sat quietly in his brown and gold lined robe. The Isawa Family Mon of the five elements in symbols in circles on his robe’s back, like the other two of his family. He spoke up only once during the meeting, “An enemy we cannot see is still an enemy. But should we focus on causing harm to them?”

Agasha Hiroshi, Master of Fire, who was missing his left arm from the elbow down, wore a red and gold trimmed robe with the green dragon holding a pearl in its claws on his back. He rubbed at his moustache with his remaining hand, “Perhaps we should turn our attention to the Tamori family. They are slowly pushing our courtiers out of courts. Our diplomats are becoming lost in their travels, but they return unharmed, or they become delayed. We are losing our standing in the courts and it isn’t in our best interests to immediately blame our neighbors of the Dragon clan.”

The last member of the council, a younger, shapely woman that wore a black silk mask over her entire face, wore a black robe with gold trim. Isawa Akima, Master of Void, sat in her self-imposed blindness and contemplated her answer. When she spoke, her voice was powerful and melodious, “One warrior with a diplomat is not an army. Perhaps a new policy for travel can be made to lessen our loss.”

Asako Heishi crossed his arms and thought for a moment, before suggesting, “Our courtiers should catalog any possible Bloodspeaker activity, in the least! I want to know where they are hiding...” And the meeting carried on for quite some time.

When it was all over, Shiba Ninto entered the room and came out again, closing the door behind him. To the courtiers who were present, and those of the clan that were charged with watching over them, “Hear me, brethren, clansmen, family. Those of you that wish to be granted honor in the Master of Air’s family, the esteemed Asako, will journey and catalog Bloodspeaker activity!” Quietly, and nearby the Phoenix, his charge, Shingon Mutsohito, who was a scrawny man with a quick writing hand, spoke, “This is the same message as yesterday and it will be the same message tomorrow. Unbending and for what? He wishes for us to seek out threats and meet them with our notes? A waste of good life."

Shiba Ninto dismissed the courtiers after his message was delivered, the Council still undecided in other regards.

Farmer's clothing over his armor, a scythe on his back shining silvery, and a raven blacker than night perched over his shoulder, Keisuke did his best to look unassuming. I don't get why we had to enter this city squawked Hojin's voice in his mind.
To avoid starving, how about that? We packed way too little food before leaving, he thought back at the bird.
There are plenty villages that have food and not so many Lions.
I don't like villages. They bring back bad memories.
Oh, wow, we wouldn't want bad thoughts, would we. Hey, here's one for you, how about someone senses the taint? Or takes offense at your weapons?
The kamas are in the backpack, the scythe is a farmer's tool.
Farmers don't have mithral weapons! It gleams like silver!
A wonderful gift for the daimyo then, wouldn't you agree?
They're going to kill you, and then I'll have to go back to the Murder, where some disciple of the Yatagarasu will kill me, just because you wanted a rice ball.
Stop being cranky, Hojin, we have faced worse.

Approaching the largest stall nearby, Keisuke dropped on the counter a handful of coins.
"I'll have a grilled mackerel, please, then takoyaki with edamame and a bowl of rice, some raw meat for my friend here and a cup of green tea."
Wolfing down the food for the first time in days, Keisuke looked around.
Lots of people around here, and my purse is lighter than I'd like it to be. Perhaps someone will need my help?
And why would they come to you for help, the weird stranger with a scythe?
Those monks were happy to have me kill the nightbeasts.
They were in the middle of nowhere, you were the first traveler in weeks, and they had no bloody guards patrolling the streets!
Why are you so negative, Hojin? We're alive and we'll find some work soon.
You are mocking me, right? Asking me why I'm so negative after I got turned into a monster to save you from your recklessness?

Still silently bickering with his companion, Keisuke kept watching the streets, wondering where to go next. A temple perhaps? Those praying to the kami were a good source of income, but it would mean risking someone to see Hojin for what she was... or himself as a renegade.

Krab:

”May your cup always be full, and your hands never be empty.” said a merchant of the Yasuki family as he delivered rice to Krab and the other Crab members who had awaited the delivery along the road. The rice fueled their samurai and their samurai kept the demons at bay, so it was their duty to haul the sacks of rice inside; by hand. Many of the larger Crab samurai would grab two bags and begin their trek. The Krab wasn’t allowed to touch the rice, but he was the guard on duty to make certain the caravan of men weren’t interrupted.

As the last man collected the last bag of rice, the merchant lowered himself to his knees and bowed his head to the samurai, righting himself upwards and soon coaxing his oxen onward. The sun was high above the Razor of the Dawn Castle, so the man approaching the Krab once he returned to the inside of the fortress was clearly seen. Hida Shigeru, a moderately built man with a scar that ran down the side of his face and upset his jaw, was the man that Krab’s mother introduced him to. He was a big reason why he was allowed into the Clan, as the Hida family were the leaders of it.

He didn’t bow when he addressed Krab, ”Himura Yoshi.” He placed his thick hand on the smaller man’s shoulder, squeezing there lightly, ”Come, walk with me. I hope the task they gave you didn’t bore you.” He turned to walk along the tightly packed streets, the spiked fortress having many layers of walls between them and the Shadowlands. For a while, they would walk, until Hida Shigeru stopped by his favorite ramen restaurant. Sinking his weight into the stool, once inside, he pounded on the wooden counter and shouted, ”Hida! Two specials!” And the chef got under way very quickly. Pulling out a few coins, Hida Shigeru tossed them on the counter and let them lie. He looked the Krab over once, ”How are you faring? Do you feel any urges?”

Ayoshi didn't speak a word; he kept with his head down, just waiting for the instructions. He was used to the courtier dance, and knew very well when to voice his concerns or plant his ideas. He deeply admired Ninto and the council, and was willing to trust their decision as to what was the best pathway to the Phoenix.

When the clan champion announced the journey, the courtier gave a small step forward, humbly, as if offering himself for the quest. Internally, he imagined it was the honorable thing to do, and was guessing he wasn't going to be the only one doing so, despite the words of Mutsohito.

As was custom, Akodo Kazuma bowed deeply, kneeling, head nearly touching the ground, proffering his katana. He spoke in a loud, clear voice.
"Kitsu-sama!"
He was, of course, saying that his blade and his life were hers. Once she acknowledged him, he relaxed slightly, leaving the sword on his right, which would be his weaker drawing side, indicating his trust.
"I thank you for this invitation, Kitsu-sama. I am at your service."

Stirred from his place of rest by the Phoenix Champion, Akihiro frowns at Mutsohito's outburst. Tasks lacking in immediate glory still need to be done, and advancement often lurks in the shadows nearby. He steps forward, distancing himself from the crowd.

With watchful eyes, Yoshi looked over the merchant caravan as the rice was taken into their holdings. It was such a simple thing but nothing could destroy a defense quite like a lack of food and there was no end to the demons that sought to conquer and destroy them all. It was with this simple duty that Yoshi practiced his talents, feeling the small changes of ki between the different farmers and picking out the small nuances of each one. Who was friends with whom, who had an arguement, he quietly studied and practiced mentally what he would do while his eyes kept a lookout for any bandit seeking to make a name for himself. With a nod of his head, he watched as the merchant head off down the street and the imposing features of Hida Shigeru emerged coming down the street.

A smile spread across the young samurai's face as he gave a bow before that hand clasped on his shoulder. "Shigeru-sama. I'd be honored to. The task was simple...but important." Stepping beside Hida Shigeru, the two men moved through the street quietly and quickly. The familiar aroma of ramen filled the air and there was a small rumble within Yoshi's stomach, the young man figuring that watching all that rice be delivered was enough to get one hungry. there was a shout of confirmation from beyond the counter as the chef began to work upon their meals. "Thank you, Shigeru-sama." Yoshi said in his low and relatively young voice. His form was far weaker than one would expect from a Crab but what he lacked in pure physical might, he made up for in finesse.

"Please, send my regard to your cousin Takedo. This armor he had crafted for me is finely made. The gift was unneeded though, it was a honor to work alongside his son against the demons." A small token of appreciation sent to Yoshi in return to bring back the man's son alive and unharmed after a quick expedition into the Shadowlands. "I know what you're asking about though...I haven't felt the darker urges in quite some time. The meditations help me focus, keep me on task." There was quite a concern after the taint was found upon Yoshi's soul, making him both less than and more than a normal man. "Since my training though, things have been easier."

The chef brings the ramen bowls over, steaming and filled with flavor, before grabbing the coin off of the counter with a thanks and a smile. He leaves the two samurai be though, giving them the privacy deserves. "I do not mean to presume, Shigeru-sama, but I do not believe you'd come find me just to check on my status. At least, not without my mother's hounding." A friendly smile spreads across Yoshi's face, using his chopsticks to pull at the ramen and eat slowly. "What can I do for you."

Atsuko was delighted to see a new city. Her eyes had seen very little of the world. Mostly that of the dojo and her home. she wonders the merchant booths. She was so taken in with the beauty of the art and the smells she began to dance as she wondered humming a soft melody to herself. It was then at the smitty's where she stopped. She watched as the bellows were pumped and forge fire raged. "Pang, Pang, Pang" She listened to the steel being hammered as a smile came across her face. The memory of what the gentle smithy had done for her brought a tear. Soon she wiped that away.

Now if this is a main city for trade there must be patrols that go or strike into the shadowland, but how do I find one... Of course just ask some of the lion samurai.

She bounds off again she approaches one of the wondering patrols.

"Excuse me Lion Samurai-sama. I am Kakita Atsuko. I have come to offer my help in defense and to strike against the shadowlands. Please where may I go to be put to use."

She bow's deeply.

Ex-Dragon and Crane:

The young girl taking orders wrote them down as Ex-Dragon spoke, then she looked over her shoulder and yelled into the kitchen. Once the noise settled down and the sizzling of food being prepared took over. Merchants rolled their carts, pulling them along and looking about for potential customers. Some had stopped to feed their oxen, while others were washing them with buckets of water.

After the food was delivered and the coins were scooped hastily into a lockbox, there was the rapid eating. And just as the bowl of rice was being finished, a commotion from one of the taverns could be heard. "You dare insult me with your meager offering?" said a samurai of a lesser clan, his colors not immediately identifiable, "You are lucky I do not sever your head. It would tarnish my blade."

With several more kicks to the farmers' bowed head, they pleaded their forgiveness and were sprawled out of the tavern's overhanging entrance. The Lion samurai that stopped to judge Crane with a weary look held up a hand to signal halt (he bowed lightly) "We have an ambassador of the Crane for trade already. We do not need another. By chance you could honor your ancestors and leave the city's well being alone; find a place to paint the blossoms and sing songs to the sparrows." The other Lion samurai, younger man, tried to contain his smiling. His senior continued a bit, as he motioned for his other to travel with him, "We did not ask for your assistance in delaying our watchful eyes on our fair city." And they left to continue their patrol.

It wasn't long before Crane came across a scene of farmers being chased out of a gambling den by a very muscled samurai who didn't wear much of a shirt, "Out with you! Even I couldn't live with gambling that sum! You wretches!" He leaned over to spit on the farmers as they fell prone before him, bowing to him repeatedly. Several passing Lions eyed him and he went back inside the hut with a sneer.

Both sets of farmers talked between themselves in wails of anguish, "What are we to do! I told you, it was pointless to offer only half a bowl of rice a day to the proud samurai! Even ronin would turn to spit on us; we are dead men!"

Real charmers, those samurai. Must take a lot of courage to bully farmers.
Not our problem, Keisuke cawed Hojin in his mind. Half a bowl of rice, that is not even pay.
We have enough money left to live honestly for a few months, we wouldn't need pay.
Why on earth would you help them?
Because no one else would.

Glass Lion:

The servants at the door had collected the samurai's footwear, placing it to the side with the many others, as they welcomed the samurai to the manor.

The doors to the court were opened by two bowing servants, their heads shaved. The courtiers all looked up as the Glass Lion entered, some speaking to those closest to them. Addressing Kitsu Miro immediately, without waiting for her to address him had many give strange looks.

But Kitsu silence her courtiers with a single wave of her hand. Remaining seated, she stares at Glass Lion, "Your courtly manners need refining. You will learn; you are young." Honest, as any Lion would be. She motioned for one of her servants to bring forth a scroll sealed with a yellow and brown tie. The servant placed it in front of the Glass Lion and bowed deeply, soon retreating out of the way.

Kitsu Miro continued, "We have experienced a shortage of rice from a Crane governed village. The governor has assured me that he is investigating into the matter, but I wish to send my best swordsman in my domain to settle this. Currently, that is you, Glass Lion." She gestured towards Glass Lion, before laying her hand back within her lap. "You have my written permission to see this error corrected. Stay within bushido's path and may your journey bring you back to your loved ones unharmed."

Kitsu Miro then stood, bowed lightly, and gestured for the court to rise and be dismissed.

Shiba Ninto took note of those that stood up, motioning for a scroll to be handed to him. He wrote upon it and set it aside to dry, "Your family will hear of your acceptance to this great task. It will bring honor upon them. May your search be forever fruitful." He dipped his head lightly and then proceeded to stand watch over the inner chamber's large doors.

Shingon Mutsohito stood up, giving a scalding look to the back of Phoenix's head, "Do you understand what you have agreed us to? We will search high and low for phantoms of men." He paused and shook his head, "But I suppose it was becoming stuffy in here. I long for the outdoors and I will record our findings." A short pause, "If, we find anything of note. As long as we don't have to endure this task alone." He gestured to Secret Phoenix.

It wasn't long before Shingon Mutsohito had collected supplies for Phoenix and him to travel with. He waited by the entrance of the Phoenix clan's large, courtly manor of their capital Kyuden Isawa.

Shigeru Hida gave a grunt in response, which was basically his you're welcome. The meals were served in time, Shigeru Hida bringing the noodles to his chopped lips to cool them, "I will. His work is improving steadily; to which I am glad." Shoveling the noodles into his mouth with his chopsticks, he reared his head back and let them slide down his gullet. Taking a side glance to look over Krab, he paused in his eating, "That's good news. I'll have to them bring more tasks to you.

Shigeru Hida ate for a bit longer, nearing the point to where just the broth was left. He lifted the bowl and drank most of it, but some escaped his scarred lip. He wiped his arm across his mouth, settling into the stool, "Your mother is always worried. But you are correct, as usual. I've heard word of someone causing trouble up north, in the Lion's den. A one-eyed bandit rumored to pull the taint from within him and summon oni."

Shaking his head in disbelief, "But these are only rumors. Nonetheless, I think it's about time you were sent to do something important." He passed a scroll that lacked a seal of any sort and stood up, "Happy hunting.

Glass Lion:

The day just before his travels were to start, a young man appeared outside his abode. Bowing deeply upon being received, he straightened himself. He wore the brown and yellow of the Lion clan, but lacked the weapons of a samurai and the finery of armor, ”I am Azama Hirashi. I was sent to watch and to take care of your steed; a gift from our gracious daimyo.” He gestured to the horse of good breeding, tall and firm with a dark black coat. It snorted once.

Azama Hirashi would lead the horse out of the city, once Glass Lion seated himself upon it or not. Once the city’s gate was neared, the Lions watching over it opened it for him. They closed it shortly after, the sun rising high in the East. Azama Hirashi would go to Glass Lion’s side and offer the reigns to him, as he would have to mount his as—mule. He had a grey coated mule that was very busy eating grass, and once he was encouraged to move, Azama Hirashi travelled behind Glass Lion. The Lion’s roads were very guarded, the two passing 3 or 4 patrols between several towers and checkpoints. Samurai holding longbows looked down upon them, the Lions observing them. The scroll allowed easy access between check points, with only nods given. They were waved through without difficulty.

Come the noon hours, they were nearing the small village that was settled near a river. It was a large farming village and had the decorations of the Crane clan; streamers and artwork hanging from the village signs. Several of the farmers that were tending the fields outside the village itself stopped to work to stare at the figure on the horse, and some of the farmers that were hauling water from the stream set aside their jugs to bow their heads to the ground as Glass Lion rode past them.

Shouldering his pack and adjusting it, Mutsohito gestured to the road, ”It is all yours, Akihiro. If you see any bloodspeakers, you will have to let me know so I can record what they look like.” Shaking his head, he sighed and started the long trek.

It was nightfall until they reached a resting point, Mutsohito dropping his pack by the side of the mountain path. He cracked his back with his hands on his lower back and settled on the less rocky area (which was very few spots). With the last bit of light, he set up to write. His book, ink vial, and ink pen ready, he began to scribe, ”First day. No signs of activity from the cultists. As expected.” He sighed again, his stomach growling.

Yoshi would take the scroll from the man, looking it over for a moment of scrutiny before his attention returned to the man's face. "Thank you. Hida-sama. You take care of yourself, tell my mother that I will visit when I next pass through." The woman was as compassionate as she was strong, a brute of a woman. She was the quintessential Crab, always ready for another fight.

He would wave the samurai off as the man headed off, tucking away the scroll and finishing his bowl of ramen. The oil and flavor was exactly what the morning needed, as the young man pushed up off of the stool he sat upon and began to head back towards his estate. There would be supplies to gather for the journey ahead, no bandit ever stayed within an pleasant village after all. As he walked though, he'd open the scroll and read over the directions more intently. "It is time to put my talents back to use." The young Crab though, a rather grim smile spreading across his face as he read.

Akodo Kazuma gratefully accepted the fine mount, and made his way to the village. Akodo spoke with Azama pleasantly along the way.

Once he arrived, Akodo made for the manor of the Lord, presenting himself to announce his purpose.

Ayoshi just looked at Mutsohito, silently, but internally he pondered how this man's words sounded a bit dishonorable. It was like he kept second guessing their clan champion. In either way, the courtier limited himself to simply hear and not agree or disagree.

While the other started writing, Ayoshi approached Akihiro and offered a smile.

Peaceful, so far, right? - he said, quickly complementing - Where are you from on our vast lands, Akihiro-sama? I can't pinpoint your accent.

They kidnapped their women. Bandits. I've hunted monsters that were more likable.
You did that alone! What will that woman think? Look at her katana! What if she turns you in?
I don't care, Hojin, I'd rather die doing something purposeful than survive until old age claims me.

Who is this now? Not a farmer. Look at that weapon. A samurai, but no clan markings. A ronin?

"Please, I am not a lord. Atsuko-sama will be fine. And who are you? I see no markings of lion and that weapon is made of mithril if my eyes do not deceive. So there is more to you then you present here. Come join us for Ramen if you like. It is my treat. It would be foolish and prideful to try and help these men alone."

"Very well Keisuke-san. I know of loss all too well. Please join us and let us see if we can keep others from knowing loss like ours."

She smiles and heads to the Ramen stand. Once there she sits inviting the others to sit with her.

"Please order what you wish and let us discuss the issue of these bandits. Can you answer my questions?"

She looks to the two men.

Crane and Ex-Dragon:

The two peasants scramble to their feet and keep their head dipped. Then the more lively man looked up, just before the other, ”We have been plagued for months now by these brigands. They are led by a man who shows off his tattoo of a tiger. He is their leader!” The men look to one another and shake their heads, ”Of course not, good samurai.” They were about to scurry into the shop when Ex-Dragon walked up. They looked to one another, ”A Mantis?” Just to be certain, they fell to the ground again and bowed repeatedly.

Once the peasants heard the Ex-Dragon’s response, they straightened and one started to wail, ”Oh, how I had thought we would bring more than one samurai to our village! The bandits will surely starve us come next harvest!” They leaned on each other, woeing and wailing, until Crane spoke up. They stopped and seated themselves at the shop, waiting and then nodding rapidly, ordering the largest bowl of ramen each, ”Yes, good samurai, kind samurai, we will answer anything you wish of us.”

Atsuko takes a few moments to eat and relax from her travels.

"There now our belly's won't drown out our conversation."
She smiles.

"This man with the tiger tattoo, does he have a name? Do the same men come to the village each time? How many come to the village? Finally when or how often do they come?"

she picks up her tea and takes a sip awaiting their answers.

Krab:

Shigeru Hida waved as he lifted the long cloths that covered the shop’s entrance, ”If she doesn’t break my jaw before I am able to; I will.” Several samurai walked the streets, talking about how the oni fell before there weapon and what the wall has shown them. Some samurai were waiting outside open smithies, waiting for their weapon to be sharpened or their handles re-wrapped in leather. Passing between a few crowded houses, with children running around in the puddles of water, the scroll read:

Himura Yoshi

In the northern lands, the Lion Den, we have heard of a man who carries a blade that isn’t his. He calls himself the Drunken Tiger. He normally has plagued the Phoenix lands, but has changed. Something or someone has pushed him towards the farm village of Chibasu. His motives are unclear and thus dangerous to us. Either speak to him and return him to his place, or slay him if he doesn’t wish to return.

Krab’s servants were ready, having waited for his arrival. They dipped their head in greeting. They were willing and ready to fetch and prepare for Krab’s departure.

Glass Lion:

Azama Hirashi spoke well for a servant, even reciting poetry when sun was high within the air. He had little to say about most subjects, but always replied respectively when he did speak. When he had nothing else to say, he hummed a strange, strangely familiar tune. The tune was often sung to children; something about a King Beetle and his Coconut Estate. The Lion Clan loved its stories, after all.

Azama Hirashi gathered Glass Lion’s reigns, leading his horse to the manor once they reached the village. Stopping outside the splendid looking manor, he stood outside, ”I will await your return, Glass Lion. Do not let the Crane throw its wing over your eyes and may your path become clear.” He dipped his head heavily towards Glass Lion.

Once he neared the pristine steps of the manor, two servants stepped outside of the manor and opened the door for Glass Lion. The manor was mostly white and looked to be regularly cleaned, while the inside was filled with paintings, and fancy rugs, and bowls of fresh fruit settled on silver-lined pedestals. There were hanging lanterns with the Crane symbol within them, and they offered an ambient light to the inside.

Settled on a large, circular red mat, the governor sat in the middle of the room. He sipped on tea and looked up as the servants guided Glass Lion inside. He had a pointed nose and thinly waxed eyebrows. He wore a fine powder around his jawline and cheeks and regarded Glass Lion with sunken eyes. His eyebrows wiggled a bit, before they settled, placing his tea on the saucer, [b]”Lion, what do I owe the pleasure to?”

The peasants thanked Crane profusely, praising her constantly as they ate to fill their stomachs. They looked to one another and then to Crane, ”Yes, they arrive on every month to collect their fill of women and our grain. I haven’t heard of them attacking our neighbors.” The older one nods his agreement, holding his arms out, ”They come in a ship. I haven’t counted them though.” The other continued, ”They are in full force during the harvest season, which is coming soon.”

Kazuma, with an effort, stifled his disdain for the Crane. He was, after all, here on official business...it would not do to let his emotions get in the way of that. His duty as a samurai came before his own grudges.

"Would that I came here, my lord, for pleasure. As it happens, this unworthy samurai is here on the business of Kitsu-sama. There has been an issue with a rice shortage here, from what I have been told. Kitsu-sama has assured me that your august personage, my lord, is investigating the matter, and I have no doubts as to how seriously you must be taking this. Kitsu-sama respects my skill with a blade, and so has sent me to...assist in this matter, to ensure that any problems are dealt with swiftly. I am at your service in this matter."

Kazuma produced the document from Kitsu, empowering him to act in regards to this issue.

"I am, I admit somewhat in the dark as to why this has happened. Can you illuminate the matter for me, my lord?"

If we can present them with a strong show of force they will not be able to retreat quickly. I could openly challenge the one with the lion tattoo in attempt to minimize the bloodshed, but as bandits they may not have the honor to uphold any arrangement. How is your village with weapons? Do you posses bows or crossbows to hunt? Or do you have little besides farming tools? I am a student of tactics and command. I can bolster those around me that listen to my command to deed beyond their normal capability. Would there be those in your village willing to fight for their harvest?"

Yoshi slowly reads through the scroll, nodding mostly to himself before rolling it back together and slipping it beneath his robes. It seemed to be a relatively standard operation, to infiltrate and discuss with the man what he was doing and either convince him to return back to where he came from or eliminate him. A threat was still a threat though and Yoshi reminded himself to not let his confidence be the end of him. It only took one lapse of attention and he could be brought down by a cold, metal blade.

Approaching his servants, his determined demeanor softened into a polite smile. "Go and bring me my traveling equipment, I am going on a journey. I wish to leave in an hour's time." The servants bowed repsectfully, splintering off to gather the supplies he would need. It would be good to get out of the city and back to sharpening his skills for his next venture out past the Wall. As soon as he could, he would depart for the village of Chibasu. Carrying his weapons hidden on his person, his fine armor disguised under clothing, the Stalking Crab makes his way to hunt for the Drunken Tiger.

Doji Junburo, the Crane Governor, flicked open his fan and started cooling himself lazily, ”Our daimyo wishes to congratulate me on my spectacular governing ability, no doubt." He smiled smugly to himself, sitting straight as can be, his posture pristine. With a lift of his eyebrows, "Oh, I see. Yes, my men have struggled to contain our crops, but I suspect the peasants of this village are smuggling it...somewhere."

He held a hand outward, and one of the servants that was standing quietly in the corner walked forward to accept the fan and place a lit pipe there. Puffing slowly on the pipe, Doji Junburo continued, "If you are looking to blame someone, you may blame the head farmer. I hear he consults with bandits. Now, if we are quite done here, I do have paperwork to finish. Our respectful daimyo is very particular of her paperwork and I dare not defy her."
