Szzlax |
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Szzlax tries to look for signs of the best path forward but wasn't having much luck.
Oozulla |
"Red-scaled... You and your friends lost this battle! You see, how superior Sootscale Tribe is... Do not make it worth for you. Do you want to live?" she made a scary face.
Intimidate: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
GM T.A.U. |
Guys, a 5, a 7 and a 5... you should really change you dice set... ah, no, it's the forum's fault! :)
Szzlax and Fyrenmarn begins looking for the traces in the soft ground, but after an hour they are unable to find anything...
The red kobold doesn't seemed impressed by Oozulla's words:
"The dragon will crush you, no matter mine fate"
Ryzztyl |
Ryzztyl growls, "Conisdering your pitiful wyvarns fled at the sight of me, I think Dahak shines the brightest in me. Still, I expect even Old Sharptooth could best your 'dragon'."
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
"But we will have time, if you won't talk now. It is a good crawl."
GM T.A.U. |
As if Ryzztyl's words have opened his eyes, mind and tongue, the red kobold starts talking, this time in a more friendly way:
"Indeed Dahak the Hunter God blessed you with fear, blue brother. The two young ladies doesn't have a chance against you. And from your words I can understand that your tribe serves the same God as mine, only from a different Prophet. Old Sharptooth, The Dragon, The Winged Kobold, are only some of His simple names, but are not His true name. His true name it's a secret, revealed to only his few prophets 'cause it has been predicted that if pronounced before the time has come, the Curse will destroy the entire tribe of the blasphemer.
Instead in the proper time of His Glorious Return, He will lead and unite all the faithful kobold tribes under His leadership! Praise the Dragon!"
Ryzztly, roll me a d6
Szzlax |
Szzlax looks to Fyrenmarn and shrugs "No trail."
Yighuk |
Seeing that Szzlax has yet to pick up the other kobolds trail Yighuk turns to Ryzztyl and says, "Find out where they fought the humans and what became of them. Perhaps we can save our tribesman the trip."
GM T.A.U. |
Actually, I have assumed that Szzlax and Fyrenmarn moved towards West for 1 hour of searching. So both are away from the rest of the team, who already moved towards East on the way back to the tribal lair.
EDIT: To clarify, we have two different scenes:
1) In the forest, where Szzlax and Fyrenmarn are at an impasse. The can cooperate (Aid Another) for a Survival track in the forest, or decide to move back.
2) On the way back home, where Yighuk, Ryzztyl, Oozulla, (and Blokpug now as an NPC), Oozulla's new human slave, and the prisoner red kobold.
The red kobold is now "friendly" towards you, due to Ryzztyl intimidation. At least for the next 30 minutes (IC time)
Ryzztyl |
"I've always been interested in the different interpretations of the God," Ryzztyl begins, now that the kobold was on speaking terms. "Tell me what are your tenets? I am curious as to how they differ from ours. Do they dictate the location of your tribe and how one tribe can prove dominance over the other, for example?"
GM T.A.U. |
"We serve the God when He asked us to do something, and if we are faithful and compliant He blesses our tribe with prosperity. Our females lay more eggs, our number increase, we can claim more land. But only the Prophet of the Dragon can answer your questions properly, he is the dominant Wyvaran, the red male one, he joined our tribe during the reign of the previous Chief, and stayed with us for a long time. Few months ago he told the new Chief to move the tribe in a new location after he had a vision from Old Sharptooth. So we, the Redscales, ventured in those lands."
Yighuk |
Yighuk narrows his eyes a bit at the red kobolds revelations.
"Another prophet of Old Sharptooth. The Chief will need to know about this."
"How many warriors stand among your tribe?" he asks the red kobold.
Szzlax |
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
Szzlax takes another look to see if he can find anything.
Szzlax |
Szzlax shakes his head to Fyrenmar "Can't find. We head back now. Szzlax hungry."
GM T.A.U. |
"We established under the ruined temple in the forest about two months ago. But we never met the humans until they come to our lair and were crushed by our guard the day before yesterday. Then our Chief ordered our hunting party to track them to punish their pride. And so we met you, in their camp."
Yighuk |
Would we know of the temple he's referencing?
Yighuk walks silently listening to the conversation between Ryzztyl and the red kobold. His eyes move between the prisoners and the forest around them alert for threats, the clans eggs bound safely across his back.
GM T.A.U. |
Sorry, I forgot you don't own Blokpug's map anymore.
The human bandits' camp you found is located the Hex in the North-West of the Human old bridge
You have no knowledge about this temple, maybe Mikmek at the lair can tell you something about it, but it's not on Blokpug's map that your Scout leader gave him.
You begin to see the end of the forest, and the hills who can brought you back home.
Szzlax |
I think headed home
GM T.A.U. |
Fyrenmar and Szzlax know that the others are on the way home, but they also know that they are slowed by having a prisoner and the eggs to transport too.
While going outside the forest, toward home, but not having a map, the two kobolds are flanking the course of the river to exit the forest.
Perception for Fyrenman: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Perception for Szzlax: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16
Szzlax is able to spot some blue scales hiding in the forest. His instinct suggest him to shout, warning in this way Fyrenman of the imminent danger. So it is, since the wounded blue wyvaran, now discovered, comes out from her hiding place into the forest raging towards the two Sootscales Kobolds, claiming her personal revenge.
INITIATIVE
- Szzlax
- Blue Wyvaran
- Fyrenmar
Encounter Map
Round 1, Go Szzlax!
Meanwhile, the rest of the party... is now in the hills, having left the forest behind them. But as if the strong sunlight remembered him to be a prisoner and not a tribe mate, the red kobold prisoner suddenly became more silent, not answering to your questions anymore.
Szzlax |
Szzlax, spotting the enemy pulls out his weapon and rushes forward to get next to the enemy.
Double move and draw weapon
GM T.A.U. |
Szzlax can enter in melee moving 35 ft, with a single move action.
Round 1
Szzlax moves in position, drawing his weapon.
boting Szzlax attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 71d10 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The green barbarian's attack miss the blue enemy.
On her turn, the wyvaran attacks Szzlax with 2 unarmed strikes, Szzlax is able to avoid both of them.
Go Fyrenmar!
GM T.A.U. |
It's the same blue wyvaran you previously fought. Same wounds, same traits.
Fyrenmar moves 30 ft, and his intimidation makes the wyvaran shaken.
From the forest, the same red kobold you previously fought, comes out attacking Fyrenmar. But since you took his crossbow and his shortsword he is unarmed.
His unarmed strike is easily avoided by the Red Oracle.
End or Round 1
Round 2
Go Szzlax!
Ryzztyl |
"I am curious if your succession, works like other tribes we have encountered, or like our own. Is your chief selected by the Old Sharptooth, through the Prophet, by strength in arms, magic, or other wiles, or the purity of their scale color or bloodline heritage?" asks of their prisoner.
Ryzztyl |
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10
Intimidate: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25
Or I can wait for a full interrogation back at base camp, if we want to advance.
Szzlax |
Szzlax hisses at the blue kobold like creature in front of him as he swings his weapon once again.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
GM T.A.U. |
Ryzztyl's friendly approach doesn't seems to work on the red kobold, but his draconic intimidation instead is able to make him speak again.
Roll 1d6 for 1d6x10 minutes duration of the intimidation
"The Chief is usally the eldest kobold of the tribe, or the one strong enough to prevent the eldest one to became chief, it doesn't matter if he is strong in arms, or in draconic magic, but he must be the strongest! The Prophet doesn't seemed interested in becoming Chief, although he is probably stronger that the actual Chief. Maybe he is doing so because of an order of the Dragon Himself. Only he can tell you."
GM T.A.U. |
Ops, I missed Szzlax's post
Szzlax's earth breaker hits the wyvaran, badly injuring her 11 damage. The blue dragon is now unconscious and near death.
Go Fyrenmar!
updated map
Ryzztyl |
1d6 ⇒ 4
"Where is this old temple where you lay your tribe? From the human camp, which direction and how far?"
Not sure I have much in the way of more questions, so we can ff to camp to report (and wait for the others to catch up). We know that these folks likely have a stronger tribe than us (greater numbers and wyvarans vs. our lesser numbers and maybe one tatzylwyrm) and they're camped in a location we were not necessarily aware of. They also follow Sootscale although through a different Prophet. I suppose we'll see what our "Prophet" has to say about it.
Fyrenmar |
Even without much martial prowess, the oracle is able to sway out of the way of such feeble attacks. He casually steps back and brings a hand up, forming a flame in the palm. It flickers distractingly for a moment before he blows on it. It instantly turns into a conflagration that envelopes the offending kobold.
5ft step back and Burning hands. DC 15 REF
damage: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 3) = 6
GM T.A.U. |
On the way back home:
"As I said, it' in the West, from the human camp, about 4 or 5 hours from there. The temple's ruins should be very ancient, since it was very hidden in the forest. There is a big Elk symbol on the top of an hill. The Prophet said it should be erased or changed to match the symbol of the Dragon"
ERRATA QUOTE: They also follow ̶S̶o̶o̶t̶s̶c̶a̶l̶e̶ Old Sharptooth although through a different Prophet. I suppose we'll see what our "Prophet" has to say about it.
---
On the battle scene:
Fyrenmar steps back and unleashes his fire spell. The red kobold is not resistant to the fire, but his agility helps him a bit halving the damage. 3 damage
On his turn, the red kobold moves against on Fyrenmar and attacks him with his unarmed strike; but the Oracle is able to avoid it again.
End of Round 2
Round 3
Go Szzlax!
Then Fyrenmar!
Then again the red kobold (if still alive)
Szzlax |
Szzlax grins as he winds up for another swing with his weapon.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d10 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
He shouts out "You with wrong tribe. Szzlax smash you good"
GM T.A.U. |
GM T.A.U. |
Fyrenmar spells knocks out the red kobold. According to mine count, you spent in this day 4 of the 5 1st level daily spell slots.
End of Combat
The red kobold is wearing only his studded leather armour, while the blue wyvaran wears her (medium sized) scale mail, the same unholy symbol you found on the other one, and 2 scrolls.
Both your enemies are dying but still alive, so you can stabilize them if you like to do so. Or if you want to be sure they will never naturally stabilize and came back hunting you again for the third time, a CdG should be the proper solution too.

...
Meanwhile the rest of the team, on their way back to home, starts being tired of all this marching day. Maybe it's time to find a proper place to camp.
Yighuk, Oozulla and Ryzztyl need a Survival check. You can choose to use the Aid Another actions to help each-other for a cumulative one OR you can make multiple survival checks individually to see what everyone should find.
Yighuk |
After marching most of the day Yighuk pauses to look about and sniff the air. The terrain had steadily begun to change to the comforting familiarity of their home territory but from the slowing pace of his fellows it was becoming apparent that they would not return to their hold before resting.
"We will continue until we can find a place to rest."
I don't think any of us have skills in it so I guess I'll take the main roll.
Survival: 1d20 ⇒ 3
I guess that was a bad idea :)
Szzlax |
CdG-W: 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (4, 10) + 6 = 20
CdG-RK: 2d10 + 6 ⇒ (3, 10) + 6 = 19
Once he realizes both combatants are down he goes to each individually, taking his weapon and ensuring they don't get up ever again. Then takes what they have, stuffing it in his pack before motioning to Fyrenmar "We go back now."
GM T.A.U. |
Szzlax quickly kills the enemies, and then take their stuff.
The green barbarian and the red oracle start moving towards the others.
It takes them a few hours to do so.
Meanwhile in the rest of the team, Yighuk is not able to find a proper place to camp even with the aid of Oozulla.
After an hour of searching, the team can see their 2 missing kobolds approaching.
With all the team reunited you can now continue the search for a camping place.
Oozulla |
"Glad to see you return," said Oozulla, seeing old friends, "we are looking for a camping place. Slaves are tired to carry eggs and without Sszlax, I could not find a short way back to tribe caves."
She came closer to Fyrenmar to summarize, what kobold slave has told them before.
"Red-scaled captive told about their tribe. They have thirty warriors and about same armed miners. They came to our lands about two month ago lead by Shaman of Old Sharptooth. They had 8 wyvarians, before we killed one. We know where they live. We need to speak with chief, get our forces and equipment and prepare an assault."
