Yig moves on and is able to see in the darkness of the night a very strange fight:

An amalgam of fur and feathers, a bizarre half-bear, half-owl monstrosity is raising its huge, ursine claws in anger against a mass of tangled vines and dripping slime who is standing on two trunklike legs, reeking of rot and freshly turned earth.

The beast is very wounded, not the same can be told of the plant-creature.

Ryzztyl looks at Yighuk and shrugs. He doesn't recognize either creature and doesn't seem to have an opinion on whether they should help one of them or leave well enough alone.

Ryz:

After you shrugged, you had a glimpse about the half-bear and half-owl... It's an Owlbear, a magical beast you heard of in your train but you never see. That dangerous beast can see in the night and has a low-light vision. (Magical beasts breathe, eat, and sleep.)
You don't have any idea about the plant-creature, but since it's proving to be a match for the Owlbear, it seems very dangerous too!

With two others devastating slams the plant is able to knock unconscious the ursine creature. The vines of the plant starts moving around the dying body entangling it...

The plant-creature is too busy in consuming the body of the fallen ursine-creature that it doesn't spot the 2 mythic kobolds in their withdraw.

The 2 chosen move away, and arrive at the lair entrance near dawn time.
Vrek is on guard at the entrance. His eyes literally shines seeing you two:
"Welcome back mine lords!"

Meanwhile in the lair
...flickering light around drops weird shadows around a cavern. Kobolds have no problem with seeing in the dark, but it is one of many attributes, small bow to manifestation of her patron, Great Shadow.
Oozulla is standing over the big amount of eggshells. She was chanting some old tale, about how the Old Sharptooth made this world... as Ryz and Yighuk are entering, they hear her words, doubled by the echo in the cavern.
..so than kobolds went down into caves to build their own lifes.

Yighuk and Ryzztyl are entering the ritual chamber
Naked slave is standing kneeling in front of witch. He looks, trying to catch any sence in her words, but is unable to and only thing he can is read her emotions.
This man was asking me for protection. This human said that he is ready to do anything to earn his life. This reminded me how kobolds got their place in this world. Being protected by shadow of Old Sharptooth; being friends and helpers of the dragons. We are building the new world now and I am ready to trial him. If he is strong enough to survive old ritual, he will deserve his place among us. He will work hard to raise a new Kobold Empire. And he will be rewarded for that according to his deeds. If he succeed all the steps of the trial, he will get his new name as Ternocknuuri, since he is one of Soothscales, born without scales.
She walks slowly to him and shows at the pile of eggs. He starts crawling into it, hiding under the wet empty shells, brough from the hatchery.
As cold-blooded creatures, we needed earth heat to hatch our eggs. Kobolds look for warmest place where heat of the earth will gently warm our eggs until they are ready to crack and until our children make their first scream. Oozulla turns herself to a pile and decides that human is covered in egg shells enough. She casts a spell sending a wave of burning fire, from her fingertips over the shells. They crack from the heat and terrible scream goes from unprepared man.
Have you heard? Probably a new member of our tribe was born. But before he becomes a member of the tribe, every one in the tribe, should nurse him, for his scales to appear Witch took an intricate stamp, shaped as a shield, sized less than palm of her hand and put some ink over it. She nods for human to approach, and as slave kneels in front of her, she presses it against his burned skin, leaving a single scale mark on his shoulder. After she finishes, he prepare stamp again and hands it to Chieftain.
As mother I can only hope, that tribe will accept it; Tribe makes choice!
Chieftain nods, puting his stamp on second slave's shoulder. One after another, other kobolds of Soothscales come and put marks. When human start losing his conciouness, Oozulla wispers words of power and helps him to regain some health.
Most of you, might say that ink and fire are unable to do what the blood does. And you are right, so here, I have the bound elixir... some rumour sounds in the crowd, I took the defective egg! Oozulla raises her voice to stop all that noise about necromancy... And as he drinks, he will get his memory transformed.. as raised through the heat of the earth, as getting his scales via our love and support, and his mind will make him one of us. And everyone who drops a blood in this chalice, will resemble him of home and will make him fight for our common future. Oozulla slices her finger, making a drop of blood come into a mix.
She walks between others waiting for them to repeat the procedure and join her.

Please, excuse me with delay.. It took effort to compose and translate it and type it

I have to say that Oozulla's ritual is something very amazing! I really enjoyed reading it! Thanks!

Nodding to the Witch, Chief Sootscale slice his finger too, to add a blood bead droping into the mix. He is quickly followed by the rest of the tribe doing the same.

Of course Ryz and Yig feel free do/say something :)

At the entrance

Yighukiskar greets Vrek as a superior to an underling. "How stands the tribe guardsman?"

Upon hearing that the ritual has just begun he tells the kobold, "Keep your eyes sharp for they see for the tribe."

With that he hurries in to see Oozulla's magics.

Finding the place of the ritual is simple enough, the room throbs with energy both mundane and arcane. The wisps of shadow that have infused the warrior seem to flicker and dance with those in the room. The feeling assures Yighukiskar that the Great Shadow approves of his chosens path. When the time comes that the chalice is presented to him he lays open his own finger and allows his blood to join that of the tribe.

"Be weak no longer." he states flatly to the kneeling man as his blood, a mix of the draconic and the divine, drips into the cup.

Nice write up Oozulla

"Everything alright mine lords! No enemies signs while your lordship where outside." replies Vrek to Yighukiskar before being left by the two chosen kobolds at the entrance.

As last blood drop into chalice, Oozulla steps to slave and handles the drink to him. He carefully takes a drink and starts consuming that with a several rapid gulps. Than he carefully puts a cup on the floor and drops below, trying for cold stone to ease a burning from inside. Ternock rolls on the ground for a moment, rolling, grasping air and trying to cough drink out, and then he turns his head up and lets the short arc of fire out of his mouth.
Stand up and kneel in front of her Chief, Oozulla touched her slave, who just become not a slave anymore, sending some healing to return him back to life.
Opening her eyes, human stood and kneeled, started speaking quiet unsure, but Draconic:
I am here to serve, my Mistress, Shadow Lords and my Chieftain

"Raise Ternock of the Sootscale! And be welcome home to your tribe, your family, your lair." said Chief Sootscale, followed by the enthusiastic cheers of the rest of the tribe.

Ooz, if you wish you can create another Alias for your Cohort PNG. Or add it to Oozulla's alias like the familiar. In both case it's better to have a place for quick reference about his stats.

The day after Ternock's rebirth into the tribe and as a member of the kobold race, the chosen lord wake up fully refreshed by their mythic energies in their new own chamber (the former Shaman's quarters).

Time for Ooz to change her spells if needed

When Oozulla finished to communing with her familiar, Ternock moves to her mistress asking something:
"Mine Lady, may I ask you when will we go conquering the redscales tribe?

In the mean time one of the kobold guards, Vrek, the one who you used to find at the entrance, stands respectfully at the entrance of the chamber looking towards Yighukiskar.

Yighukiskar rises and stretches, opening his jaws wide before twisting his head one way and then the other. An audible and satisfying "pop" sounds as the taunt tendons stretch. Dawning his armor and weapons he finally turns to Vrek, "What news Sootscale?"

Taking a deep breath Vrek starts explaining:
"Mine lord, you know that Reg and I used to fulfill our watch duties together, and that Reg was killed when the Mites stole the Sacred Idol. I was ... ostracized by the rest of the guards since that event.
Even after you save our tribe from the false shaman... So, I would like to know ... if you are in needing of a personal guard. Chief Sootscales has Kir, Nyd and Faz at his own disposal. So I want to volunteer myself at your service, if you think it is needed."

Vrek seems very embarrassed in what is trying to saying.

Sense Motive DC 5 for everyone:

But Vrek is also completely sincere and without an ulterior motive a part from his own true devotion towards Yighukiskar.

With that the fighter takes a single step towards the guard and slices his own hand, holding it out before him.

"Take this oath at your own peril for it will bind you unto death, at the hands of my enemies or my own should you falter."

Solemnly Vrek swears:
"I live to serve only you Yighukiskar and beyond you only the Great Shadow, I'll have no friend but your commands, no tribe but your obligations, no live but the one I'll take from your enemies, no death but the one I'll take from your enemies or from you if I should falter in mine duties"

Ryzztyl snorts at the new Sootscale's eagerness to battle the Reds. "What is our plan?" he asks aloud. "Sneak in, if we can, and bring down their prophet? Somehow issue a challenge? Or battle our way to him? The fewer Redscales that are brought low from our takeover, the better, as we may need as many forces as we can get."

Sounds good. If he proves himself (i.e. survives :) then perhaps he'll rise to cohort status :)

"You are right, it is best we not weaken the Redscale if it can be avoided. I propose we attempt diplomacy and if that fails call on their prophet to prove his claim in combat." Considering a moment he considers, "They retain six more winged kobolds, we will need a way to counter their flight."

@ Yig: To clarify in case you want to choose him as cohort, you will be able to choose whatever class you like. i.e. if you want a bard, he will discover his innate singing abilities, if you want a cleric e will hear the divine call of Old Sharptooth, and so on...
Of course, all this if he will survive and you want to choose him and not another unnamed tribal cohort :-D

Yighukiskar wanders out of the chosen's quarters and is able to find some gear into Nakpik's store:
1 masterwork spear, 1 darkwood quarterstaff, 2 shortbows, 4 quivers (20 arrows each), 2 nets, a lot of shortspears, and even more slings.
In the armor selection there are 5 hide armors, 1 halfplate, 2 light shields, 3 bucklers. None of them is of Masterwork quality.

Oozulla woke up to find her bodyguard sleeping. He still is not adopted to underground and nocturnal rhythm, she thought for a moment, but she understood there is only one way to teach him right.

- Ternock, wake up! - her voice was dry and clear.
- Yes, my master! - breaking through the sleep, mumbled human, jumping up. He wasn't very tall, but kobold caves weren't build to accommodate man comfortably. He hit the ceiling standing up and that woke up him even more.
- I need to commune with my Murrky, so stay on guard. We are going to deal with redscales, so prepare your weapons and armour... Think a while: do you need something else?, leaving some orders for her cohort, Oozulla started meditation.

Ternock was trying to get around the cave, looking for things he might use, but most of them were to big for him. Finally, he put in his backpack longest rope, several fresh fruits and other minor things like spoon and bowl. Suddenly he discovered that someone is looking from behind. He looked around, expecting someone invisible might attack, but found no one. That seemed strange. He was almost ready to unsheathe his sword, when he noticed an unseen previously creature. Young cave salamander slowly stepped in and smelled air in chosen quarters. Ternocknuuri slowly moved forward and put herself between lizard and Oozulla. Salamander spend a moment, sniffing an air, than turned and left. Feeling strange about this meeting, he continued his watch and as Oozulla ended he asked:

- "Mine Lady, may I ask you when will we go conquering the redscales tribe?"
- "We'll move right now."

When they moved out of the caves, salamander was following them.

- "Why is it following us?"
- "I don't know. I had a strange dream, when you woke me up. Not like dream, like memory returned and I saw a dog I had when I was young. It was following me, protecting me from other boys and I could make it jump and turn. I even mounted it couple times, but it wasn't good in riding without saddle. That dog was pale and it had quite distinctive black spots over its eyes. This morning, that salamander entered our cave and it has similar features."
Oozulla snapped her fingers, bringing some light into passage. The shadow on the wall didn't look like lizard, more like a massive riding dog, ready to jump. She pointed to Ternock:

- "Great Shadow sent a shadow of your friend to help you in our mission. I think this is a good sign. Time to find others, we need to use our time wisely. Let's check, may be we have something big for you in Nakpik's store"
- "Yes, my Lady!" Ternock loudly exhaled, because all this time he was torn apart by contradicting thoughts in his head.

I'd like for Ternock to have 50-ft rope, mess kit and pair of trial rations. I'll pay a normal price for them. Any medium-size equipment is available?

I have to say that I thought of another way for Ternock to acquire his mount, but Oozulla's version is definitely better then mine!

About medium-sized gears, we can assume someone of the tribe previously ambushed some human trappers or hunters selling it to Nakpik's shop. Nothing of Masterwork/Magic quality but feel free to buy whatever you need.

Yighukiskar reviews the weapons and armors available to the tribe with a warriors eye. "Nakpik we will need to improve our stores for when battle comes. Determine what we lack to increase the number and quality of the arms we have and report on it upon our return." he commands as he purchases the masterworked spear, nets and a sling with stones.

The spear, a fine weapon with a wicked looking barbed spearhead, he hands to Vek. "I name this weapon Wyvern's Sting. Draw much blood for the Great Shadow with it."

I'm ok with pushing forward

Once the party, it's ranks now bolstered, is prepared Yighukiskar calls for the Redscale to be brought to them and leads the group out.

While waiting for Oozulla and Ryzztyl posts, I'll try to go on a little bit

"The time of judgement has not yet come. You will travel with us to your tribe where we will speak the will of the Great Shadow and, if necessary, prove our claim to his divine might through a show of force. You and your kin will be given the chance to submit to his Chosen and join his glorious kingdom to come or to turn their backs on the Dragon. Then will judgement be delivered for weal or woe."

Yighukiskar pauses and takes a moment to appraise the red scaled kobold. "Long have kobold tribes warred amongst each other, proving our strength and culling the weak but that time is at an end. We do not set out on a simple raid or jealous war. The Great Shadow now calls for us to rise together to dominate the warmbloods as is our birthright. Put aside petty rivalry and see this grand path if you are able Kib of the Redscale. Aid your tribe in understanding the Great Shadows will and you will serve them well while gaining the favor of his Chosen."

After a few seconds Kib of the Redscales replies:
"Maybe our Chief could hear your words, but I doubt the Dragon's Prophet will submit to your will so easily. He was chosen by the God before you, he was sent to make us, Redscales, fulfill our glorious destiny. I'll lead you to our lair if you wish so, but don't expect us to be conquered so easily. From what I saw we have more warriors then you, not counting the Wyvaran's clergy blessed by the Dragon God's blood."

After 8 hours you reach the point of the map marked with Human old Bridge. In fact the river winds through a 20-foot-deep gulch here between a pair of hills. An old wooden bridge spans the gulch, allowing passage over the river.

Oozulla felt herself more or less safe, while crossing - human and his cave salamander were nearby and they could engage the fight if needed. She had some doubts about cave salamander, but signs were more or less clear. After friends set position on the other bank, she moved carefully, having her crossbow prepared for shooting, in case something goes wrong.

While waiting for Ryz in both IC and OOC threads, I'll assume his PC crossed the bridge as the 2nd one in the order stated by Yig's post.

After Yighukiskar, Ryzztyl moves on the bridge too without problems.

Kib, strictly watched by Vrek, cross the bridge together. The wooden planks groans and creaks ominously while they do so, but nothing serious happens.
After them Oozulla is able to cross alone the bride, without noisy sounds...
The creaking is back when Ternock cross the bridge alone, and also when his cave salamander does so.
After they crossed a quiet silence is back in the area.
