Map Update

You make your way cautiously along the passage, which turns north and ends in a rectangular chamber. This plain stone-worked chamber once stored the church's valuable religious artifacts, it would seem. It's been ransacked somewhat, but some lesser treasure still litters the floor.

There isn't anyone here (apart from you lot, that is).

Barezata would reluctantly bow to Sonya's thoughts on the matter. Hopefully the church would smile on our use of the items since we are attempting to complete a quest that would reconsecrate and restore the crypt.

So, back to the well. Looking down, the 'floor' that was there has gone and the shaft goes down, down, down... into darkness. No sign of any water.

"I can get down easily enough. It might be a bit trickier for the rest of you unless one of you has some tricks I am unaware of." Samuel comments quietly as he picks up a pebble, casts light on it, and drops it down the shaft to get a gauge for it's depth.

Silena shrugs, pulls out of her backpack a length of hemp rope 50'ft and secures it around the base of the one of the stone pedestal's legs for the hanging gong. Then she tosses the end of the rope down the shaft.

She frowns peering down the shaft her own natural darkvision... negated by Sameul's light stone, but she hefts Fiendfell in hand stating, "..I'll go down to see if there is danger... the rope is so either I can get back up or you can follow safely."

Then she steps off the edge of the pit falling gently under effects of her ring of feather fall that begins glowing brightly on her hand...

She peers into the illuminated shaft as she slowly falls looking for threats...

Barezata ties another length of rope to the rope dropped by Silena and gets ready to descend once she has given the all clear.

The well shaft emerges into a roughhewn chamber (D4). To the north, an old rusty portcullis blocks the route further.

Sonya frowns gingerly reaching for the rope. Gripping the rope in her hands she cringes in pain as she lifts herself over the gap. She begins to slowly lower herself down, nearly in tears by the time she reaches the bottom of the gap. She keeps her mind focused on the task at hand and quickly calms herself down one more.

Her voice nearly cracks as she speaks, "Let's go."


Barezata looks with some sympathy at Sonya, "Sorry it hurts." Then, once Silena is ready to move toward the portcullis, Barezata gets her bow and an arrow ready again and quietly stalks forward looking for traps or ambushers.

Silena watches Sonya ...seemingly impassive to her pain... but when she is standing with them she pauses to look her in the eyes and nod solemnly, "...through pain we endure, through endurance we gain strength."

Her tone becomes sternly serious, "You are stronger than you know... Desert Rose! I have faith in Your strength.. you should too."

Then she turns to head down the passage looking for any obvious way to retract the portcullis...

Nice spell use! The AP recommends knock or brute force, but I'll let you have it with a spot of mending!

The rough-hewn passage leads on beyond with niches carved out of the walls on both sides. It stretches north for over 80 feet and in the gloom ahead you can just about make out a bend westwards.

And this is where it gets interesting...

As Silena reaches the corner and peers around, she sees a similar corridor heading west towards an elaborate stone door bearing a life-sized symbol of Sarenrae, except that where the symbol's head should be there is nothing but a blackened scorch mark. The door stands very slightly ajar.

Two figures emerge from niches, humanoid, clad in ragged decaying clothing - indeed, they are pretty ragged and decaying themselves - and advance rapidly towards her.

Worse, another one emerges from the N/S corridor behind the rest of you, from the southernmost niche on the left.

All advance to attack...

... so I guess we'd better roll some initiatives.

Sonya, your first thought would be 'zombies' but these seem remarkably alert and quick-moving for zombies.

Silena, they are chaotic (and evil) and they have fear and 'death grip' as special attacks.

Well Silena has been beaten on initiative by the two in front of her so really she can't act... but if you want and action she is planing considering the tactical view.

Silena seeing the two rotting corpses come toward her makes a tactical move to step into the nearest alcove in front of Sonya so only one of the Undead can easily strike at her at once... allowing her to take advantage of cover from the other Zombie's attacks.


Yep, I'm behind critter #1 in initiative, but since that one has a whole lot of people between me and it, I can probably safely assume its ok for me to attack #3.
Barezata spins to hold off the one coming from the rear. The decaying frame seems to be leave an uncertain target, so she settles for aiming an arrow right at its head.
