Well, the baboons have retreated back into, well, whatever there is in A15.
I think you still have not visited A14 & A A17 either, if you wish to do so. The pugwampi are still busy cleaning up the chapel (A2) although they appear to be decorating it with tributes to their new 'God' rather than restoring the iconography of Sarenrae!
Jengren Dsustrun |
Jengren will suggest finishing up the search to ensure that is secure. Assuming the party agrees lets try A14 next. Jengren will continue to be placed towards the rear of the party.

You push open the door of A14. A sagging wooden balcony overlooks this large room, which must once have been the monastery's library. An overpowering odour of musty, rotting paper and old leather fills the air here, and hundreds of books — most too damaged even to open without destroying them — litter the floors. Empty bookshelves line the walls of both levels. Despite the mess, the room is structurally sound with an intact roof.

There does not appear to be anything magical in here. Avid scholars might disagree, were they to rummage amongst the books to see what had survived... (as in, there may well be interesting material even if not magical in the technical sense of the word!).
Jengren Dsustrun |
That was going to be Jengren's next action once he did the scan for obvious glowing items.
"There appears to be some nice reading material in this room, but nothing obviously magical, should we check out the last room to ensure this place is secure. then we can come back to look at this material with a discerning eye?
Megan Robertson |
A17 it is, then. Three long wooden tables and dozens of chairs that once lined this mess hall are in shambles, mostly rotted away with the passage of years. Light shines through several large holes in the ceiling, illuminating a closed door on the east wall. Otherwise, there doesn't seem to be much of interest here, alive or otherwise.
Megan Robertson |
The door is not locked and leads into A18, the dormitory (Map)
Krafty comes in and asks if you will be joining the pugwampi for their evening meal... and if it's OK for him to get back in the kitchen to prepare something?
Jengren Dsustrun |
Jengren chuckles to himself, rat can be a good meal better than sand.
He does a through search of the library. Looking for books and scrolls that look in good condition and intact.
perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Apparently not even finding his way back to the library.
Megan Robertson |
Jengren appears to be having difficulty in finding his own nose! (Hint: It's on your face...).
It is now late afternoon. Some reasonably appetising smells are coming from the kitchen, whatever Krafty is brewing up doesn't smell too bad, even if you may not wish to enquire about his ingredients!
Do you want to send to the Lady Almah now or leave that until the morning?
Megan Robertson |
Supper is a very tasty stew (provided you are OK with 'mystery meat'). The pugwampis provide surprisingly good company although they have appallingly bad table manners. They also produce some moonshine that tastes quite rough but has a warming afterglow to it. And makes your head swim after a couple of glasses...
Samuel sets out back to the encampment. He finds it settling down for the evening. Most of the mercenaries and that red-haired priest are sitting around a campfire, supping ale and trading tall stories. The Lady Almah's tent is illuminated from within and a couple of guards stand outside, looking bored. No sign of Dashki.
Jengren Dsustrun |
Jengren partakes in only one glass of moonshine. He will eventually make his way back to library and begin going through the dusty books. Looking for anything interesting as far as reading material and magic. He concentrates on a detect magic spell as he leafs through the books.
The mystery meat stew provides a soothing coating for the rough 'shine.

Samuel: you are shown straight in when you make yourself known to the guard, apparently the Lady Almah left orders to that effect.
Inside the luxuriously-appointed tent, she is curled up on a heap of cushions nibbling on biscuits and reading a scroll. She looks up.
"Welcome back. Just the one of you? I hope no misfortune... sorry, do please take a seat. Wine? Something to eat?"
She waits until you are settled, sitting up eagerly.
"Please, I would know what has transpired."
Jengren: You potter back to the library and poke around, detecting magic - to no avail - as you go. You find one very well-preserved book called Courts of Stone and Flame, it is a treatise on genies of the elemental planes. You reckon that a scholar or collector would pay good money for it, and in the meantime it is quite an interesting read, if you are in to that sort of thing. Would you like to settle down and study it?
What is everyone else doing?
S. W. |
Samuel accepts a glass of wine and sips it slowly as he tells the story. "Everyone else is fine, and we even had some other folks join us, but they, along with the others you know about, were inclined to stay and eat dinner with the 'hosts' of the monastery. We encountered upon our arrival there, several pugwampi cooks in the kitchen, and somehow, I'm still not quite sure how, not only did Calain convince the ones that begged for mercy to take him to their leader, but he convinced the pugwampis that he was some kind of god and that instead of worshipping the gnolls, they should worship him. After that, the rest of the monastery was easy, with one of the pugwampis even giving us a tour, such as it was. There was a stirge that we had to fight, but the baboons were talked down by my fellow pathfinder, and there is a nest of a giant bird that will need to be watched carefully. (If we saved the egg, Samuel would have brought it with him, figuring that it would a be a suitable thing for Lady Almah) The crypts have a very nice alchemist's lab in the preparation chamber, though a few bottles of slimes attacked us; while the crypt itself showed signs of ancient battle, it was peaceful enough when we went through; it sounds like the pugwampis will be moving in there now that they know about it. There are other details that will come up when you get the full tour, but that covers the important highlights."
Jengren Dsustrun |
Jengren's eyes widen as he finds this treasure. Perhaps I will discover more about my djinni blood heritage. He sits eagerly in the most comfortable spot he can find and begins to slowly leaf through the treatise. He begins with the table of contents, then looks at the end of the book to see if there is a cross reference index. After than starts to study the material.

In the encampment
Lady Almah listens.
"Excellent news, you have done well. If the pugwampi are inclined to accept my dominion, they may stay. I see no benefit in fighting them unless they resist me. Tell me about these 'folks' that have joined you: are you recommending that I employ them? I shall speak with them when I get there."
She claps her hands and when a guard enters, gives orders for departure immediately after breakfast tomorrow. She then opens a small chest and hands Samuel a ring, gold with several small rubies, before sitting back to hear the answer to her query about the newcomers.
In the library
Jengren settles himself comfortably and begins to read...
Davashuum (The Jackal's Price, The Final Wish): Davashuum is an amoral and deadly creature that served Nefeshti as an executioner and, in dire extremes, as an assassin. He represents the fury of winds from all directions and wields a powerful quarterstaff.
Kardswann (Howl of the Carrion King): A scout and traveller of the planes, Kardswann's weapon is an elaborate greataxe, and he represents the south wind, the most well-travelled and worldly of the winds. He is currently under the mental domination of Xulthos, a daemon imprisoned in the crypt below Kelamarane's ruined church of Sarenrae.
Pazhvann (The Jackal's Price): Pazhvann is Nefeshti's advisor and spiritual guide. He represents the east wind, upon which the whispers of the gods and the advice of elders is carried. His weapon is a tremendous burning flail.
Vardishal (Howl of the Carrion King): A general of Nefeshti's armies, Vardishal's spirit resides in the monastery laboratory. He wields whatever weapon is favored by his new host, and in life he represents the north wind, a wind said to carry the battle cries of all armies.
Zayifid (House of the Beast): Nefeshti's spy and diplomat, Zayifid was a messenger and spy. He represents the west wind, upon which secrets thought hidden were carried. His weapon is a delicate but razor-sharp scimitar.
The book also contains a brief entry on Jhavhul, who is listed as a shamed member of the efreet nobility of the City of Brass, a famed location on the Plane of Fire. The entry suggests that he ventured to the Material Plane in search of an army and a legacy to raise his standing, during which time he and his armies warred against the Templars of the Five Winds, but that he was never seen in the City of Brass again.
By the time you raise your eyes again, dawn is breaking.
Does anyone want to do anything else before we move on to the next day?
Jengren Dsustrun |
jengren wakes the next day and contemplates what he has read. he will go back and reread the passages to commit them to memory. When all is done he will tuck the book into his backpack, wrapping it in cloth for extra protection against the elements.
Eventually Jengren rejoins the remaining members. He eats a trail ration for breakfast and drinks a bit of chicory coffee. He greats each member and each of his hosts with a "Good morning."
Megan Robertson |
In the encampment
Samuel awakes to hustle and bustle, the encampment is being dismantled about his ears. Eventually all is ready and they move out in the direction of the monastery.
In the monastery
Krafty has made a rather watery and lumpy porridge. The other pugwampis seem to think it's a treat.
Jengren Dsustrun |
Jengren will nod off Krafty's treat motioning to his own food. No need to eat all there food.
Jengren will refill his coffee and ask Krfty, "When do you intend to set up living quarters in the crypt, now that they are cleared?"
Jengren Dsustrun |
Although Jengren has not met Lady Almah yet, he assumes the biggenses is that group, so he will rise and head towards the compound entrance. Stopping by to gather Raulzig and Pashaj, "I assume this will be Lady Almah."
Megan Robertson |
Dashki wasn't seen all night, as far as you known Samuel, but he turned up at breakfast-time with a brace of dead pugwampis.
When everyone - or at least, those that want to including all of the pugwampi who are very excited - come out of the monastery, they behold the sight of a large, straggling caravan, a mix of camels, horses, mules, goats and several large wagons. It is indeed Lady Almah and entourage, including Samuel perched on a camel.
