Rafyyk follows after Korum, mostly because they happen to be going to the same place. While Korum looks over the wagon, Rafyyk looks over the dead body, trying to be as discreet and respectful as possible. He wants to make sure, if he can, that she actually did die from the fire or smoke, and not something more nefarious covered up by the fire.

Once he has finished searching for tracks around the camp, Uzma returns to the wagon, and helps the others. He searches for clues. Perhaps the victim left something behind to reveal the murderer? He attempts to find and gather her cards, hoping that they might shed some light on the events, somehow...

Seeing that the conversation was over, Nishv stuffed his headdress into one of the pockets of his sleeve and took his leave of the tent.

Outside he found the three investigators in and around the burnt wagon. Nishv stopped short of the wagon and found himself wishing that he knew more about the Gods so he could ask a prayer for the Varisian woman. But that is the point of allies, is it not? he thought to himself, to carry the burdens that we are unable to.

He wiped a bead of sweat from his brow, ”The two guards that helped move the wagon may be able to provide some assistance, I believe,” Nishv said to no one in particular. ”Questioning them may be wise.”

After leaving the princess, Chakam helps investigate, but not too confident he'd be able to find something his colleagues haven't - either way, he looks around and does the best he can. Finally, he approaches Nishv and the others with his findings.

This might be a good idea. I could also ask the couple who owned the animals if they saw something.

The investigation proves to provide little else in the way of any inciteful information or a hint of additional clues regarding the search of the wagon from the onlookers.

OOC:

Feel free to address any of the caravan members if you wish. The company is as follows:
Almah, Garavel, 4 personal guards, 6 other mercenaries (2 of which you have met), Zastoran, another stand-offish fellow, and the older couple in charge of the animals and the cooking.

Being more at ease alone in the desert than even small groups such as this one, Uzma prays to Gozreh. He finds each of his companions, and offers water and a short prayer. "Gozreh guide you. He is the Light," he speaks, laying his hand on their heart.

Finding little of value, Rafyyk waited until Korum (and any other of his comrades) was done in the wagon. He then began preparing the body to be buried. He wrapped it in a large blanket first. Normally he would clean it but with the amount of burn damage, having the body be seen by others would be unpleasant, so cleaning wasn't necessary.

Once finished with that, he would go to to the older couple. He smiled with no teeth and then gave a bow to them. "Greetings. I am Rafyyk, the Halfmoon, an Oracle of Desna. It is a pleasure to meet you."

He looked around a bit after introductions were done. "I was wondering if you knew anything about the fire from earlier? Or anything about Eloais, the fortune teller?"

Korum will enter the tent once more, holding his enormous axe at his side now, his eyes darting back and forth, either mild paranoia or intense skittishness taking over his expression.

Asking all questions at once.

"Garavel, I wish to ask you some questions. Where were you when the fire broke out? Where was Eloais? How long was the fire burning before our arrival? Are all other parties accounted for? Were there any flammable substances in this wagon, powders, gases, or otherwise? Is anyone on this journey an alchemist, apothecary, herbalist, or even magically talented? How did you come to know Zastoran? Is he trustworthy? How long have each of the members of this caravan been with the group?

I'll take the Guidance on this Diplomacy roll1d20 - 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) - 1 + 1 = 3

The older man introduces himself to Rafyyk as Hadrad and his wife, whose head scarfed face hides most of what must have been a beautiful woman years ago, is Hodrah. He mentions that they are in charge of preparing all the food for the caravan's meals as well as driving some of the wagons.

"Unfortunately, we were on the other side of the caravan's camp, so we didn't see much. Everything happened so fast. It just went up in a blaze. As for Eloais, there isn't to much to say. She's been travelling with us for not too terribly long. I don't think I have seen two full moons with her travelling with us. Almah always takes a Harrower. Says she wouldn't feel right about travelling without one."

Garavel doesn't seem entirely too forthcoming or helpful above and beyond the call of duty. Still, he is anxious to see this matter resolved, and answers Korum.

"I was with you when the fire broke out. Remember? It would seem that Eloais was in the wagon as she was already dead when everyone got to her? As far as I know, everyone is here. I haven't seen anyone going off - at least not going off and not coming back. The only thing I know that was flammable in the wagon were the Harrowers candles and whatever else she might use for her readings. Father Zastoran is the only one I know with any magical ability in this caravan. He's been with us for some time. 6 years, 10 months, to be precise. He has proved more than trustworthy, I believe on several occasions. As for the others, the four personal guards for Almah have been with us since Almah was appointed by the Pactmasters to her position. Their names are Fixx, Keldon, Podarn, and Vodrave. Dashki, the er...dirty one, has been with us, once Almah decided to retake Kelmarane. He is an expert of the terrain in this region and knows it better than perhaps anyone around. I will say this much for him, he could probably get us their without the use of his eyes. The other six guards were hired just before you. Their names are Trevvis, Utarchus, Dullen, Kallien, Brotus, and Yesper. Eloais has been with us for 41 days. I hope some of that will be of help to Almah."

Chamak and Loran, you're up!

He slowly turns and steps away, pondering his next move. He looks around the camp and heads towards the mercenaries that have not been questioned yet.

I think it's more realistic to count on a single post per day, from my side - if it's not enough, then I'll gladly step out as to not delay the others.

After the conversations that took place, Chakam heads towards the other mercenaries, as well. Despite his height and exotic looks - especially on the eyes - the Paladin tries to not sound threatening as he approaches. He greets them warmly, and proceeds to question informally.

A rivulet of sweat found its way down the side of Nishv's face and paused at his jaw briefly before plummeting to the scorched earth below. Did it evaporate before it hit the ground? he thought.

Are there any tracks leading out of the wagon that seem out of place?"

After hearing what Dashki has to say, Korum returns to the wagon, casting a spell to detect any magical auras, and sweeping the wagon and surrounding area.

They answer you that they were all encircling the pit that was set up for a fire. None of them seem to offer any possibilities as to exactly how the fire broke out. Also none of them are guards for Eloais. Most serve as work hands who are capable of handling themselves in a fight. They are more hired to discourage bandits from raiding the caravan.

Dashki erupts in outrage and frustration. "The fire? That idiot probably burnt it down himself. He had like a thousand candles in that wagon! Perhaps he just got unlucky? We are gnoll country. This was probably the work of pugwampis!
As for tracks, I did see a set over there that are definitely a goat's but they are all wrong. Goats don't move like that. Even in a panick, they don't move like that. And those scuffs? They are not made from hooves. Perhaps those could be the work of a pugwampi as well!"

Dashki turns to Uzma in further, almost exasperated now. And YES, those tracks are from goat. But do you see gnoll tracks? Hyena tracks, even? When Nishv had been a boy in Niswan he oftentimes found himself being pulled by his ear into his father's study. ”Your son was fighting again,” or ”He was caught trying to swipe fruit from a merchant,” his mother would explain before leaving Nishv to his fate. Not once did his father ever raise in voice in anger. Never would he strike Nishv. Instead, he would set his quill, tome, or pipe down and let out a low, disappointed sigh and begin to speak.

Someone else's words rolled off of Nishv’s tongue, ”The resistance to the unpleasant situation is the root of suffering. If there is something you wish to unburden yourself of, please do so now.” He paused and simply waited for Dashki to speak.

And who else is missing to interrogate? - asks Chakam - Maybe we should really start following tracks of animals around.

The paladin wasn't exactly joking, but it was clear the current methods of the group weren't truly getting anywhere. Plus, he was now with the impression that some of his companions were simply either ignoring questions or too focused on their thoughts to notice more was going on around them.

Korum nods in agreement with Chakam, lifting his axe out of the sand and whistling sharply for his armadillo.

"We shall go, then. Follow these tracks. Dashki seemed to think it was a good idea, and he is right about the goat. Who will come? Dashki, will you show us the way?"

Uzma, equally frustrated, is eager to leave the camp.

Uzma leads the way.

Rafyyk was torn. He didn't think that Dashki was responsible for the fire, but he did feel he should warn the Princess that someone was spying on her (and might be trying to peek at her when she's unclothed).

But the others were wanting to get going in a hurry after the tracks to see if that was responsible for the fire. He hesitated a moment but then followed after the rest and the tracks to see what it might lead to.

You head out with Dashki in the late afternoon following the tracks northward into the scrubland hills.

Survival DC 15:

As you travel you notice a small set of tracks that are accompanying the goat's, the latter of which seems quite hesitant.

The set of tracks leads you to a rocky terrain fully of painfully, prickly cactus forest.
Perception DC 15:

You hear a faint, childish cry further into cacti field.

Knowledge:Nature DC 10:

The child cry is the goat, though the timbre of the sound probably means it is in pain.

Korum follows warily, axe at the ready, trailing about 10 feet behind Dashki. His eyes dart back and forth, watching the rocks and desert, somehow made uneasy by Dashki's apparent eagerness to be headed into what he had called gnoll country. He looked around for any signs of flora or fauna beyond the prickly cacti, and for any reason to justify his skittishness.

The half-orc man's ears strained to hear the faint sound he'd originally thought to be imaginary. "I hear the old man's goat. It sounds hurt, and not far from here. There is little to harm a creature in this desert that would not also harm a man, so be wary, my friends."

How much time has passed since our arrival at the camp? Is my mage armor still up, or has it expired?

I notice a small set of tracks accompanying the goat's... It doesn't seem to be alone. The tracks are taking us towards the prickly cactus forest. And I can hear like a childish cry coming from the field... Is that what you think belongs to the goat, Korum?

Chakam wasn't too trained on these skills, but bravely advanced in the direction of the cactus field to search for the goat and whoever or whatever was accompanying it.

Nishv left the tracking to the professionals. As the sun beat down on the group Nishv wound up putting his shemagh back on. Why did I bother taking it off? Maybe I shall even sleep in it?

He was careful to step between the cactus plants as the group went along. "If that child crying is the goat, then I hear it too, I believe," Nishv said as he stepped over a loose rock.

It's been just over an hour since you left camp sorry should have been more descriptive there so I would say about an hour and a half since you arrived during the fire at Sultan's Claw.

Cactus Field

As you get to the thick of the cactus forest, you see a goat, no doubt Rombard, tethered to a scrub bush by a hairy, knotted length of rope. It bleats periodically, as if in pain.

Moving through any square with a cactus requires a DC 15 Acrobatics or Escape Artist check (or any other check you think you can justify) while at half speed. It is considered difficult terrain. You could move at full speed, but with increased difficulty.
