Pivenzobili |
"Ok everyone line up." The militiaman instructs as he is about to address everyone. "You all know why you are here. As the flier says, 20gold a head for Vegepygmies and 100gold for a reliable map to their home in the heart of the woods. We have found a denizen of the wood that has agreed to help as the Vegepygmies have destroyed his people also. He can help you track them, and he has some healing abilities, though he is no fighter. Ok Piv come up here."
A shy dread gnome walks up and gives a slight wave "Hi, i...it.its Pivenzobili actually. Thank you all for coming. I will show you were the Vegepygmies are." Pivenzobili wears a holy symbol made of wood around his neck.
In combat pivenzobili is not much more than a bystander, but he can be asked to heal someone as a standard action and out of combat. He is quite skilled in healing and he knows these woods.
Izrail Arvanxi |
"I demand his name, Pivenzobili. I don't care if He resides in the heavens or in the Hells, but House Arvanxi knows how to be grateful and I'd rather pay him some respect after this mission."
Pivenzobili |
The gnome seems confused and says "But, I have told you his name, he is the master of the woods. Who else would he be?"
The militiaman calls out "Ok that's enough, the gnome has been cleared by the Hellknights Order of the Gate, I am sure their inquisitors were thorough." Pivenzobili shivers at the mention of the Hellknights and cowers again.
Jerax Hellfire |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
"Stop distracting the little f#*$er! Let's get going," Jerax bellows.
Sarvin Wardroxan |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Knowledge: Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Sarvin approached the gnome, inspecting him carefully for a moment. This was going to be their guide? Well, there were more useless people. Hopefully at least this 'Roden' individual would be smart enough to take the blows from the Vegepygmies for his betters.
"You are going to be our guide then Pivenzobili, are you going to be the one to create the map for us as well?"
Ileosa Albus |
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
"The name, Mr. Arvanxi, is Barbatos. He who holds Hell's gates." Ileosa said as she gave a nod to Izrail then tapped her left cheek to point out the massive Asmodeus unholy symbol that takes up almost all of the left side of her face. A smile graces her lips as she adds, "One of the many Archdevils who rule the nine Hells under Asmodeus."
She looks to Pivenzobili and her smile leaves. "You would do well to remember that name Pivenzobili, for he is whom you owe you life, and soul, to." She informed the gnome.
She watched Sarvin approach the gnome and question him about the map. "I believe mapping is left to us." She informed the male aristocrat.
Jerax Hellfire |
"Hey, Ileosa! I see they final let you out of the temple for once", says Jerax, as he gives her a hardly pat of the back. "Somebody else can have the map-making money. I ain't doing that s#!t!" Jerax then looks to Ileosa and says pointing to the woods, "So, you think there might be a temple or shrine to Barbatos in there?"
Meridian Anterian |
"Meridian Anterian." Her voice is low and smooth, and she smiles slightly at the militiaman as she gives her name.
K(religion) DC 12: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8.
Sense Motive DC 10: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6.
Meridian stand quietly off to one side, watching the interplay. A small smile curves her lips as if amused by the others. She wears leather armor and has a crossbow and mace by her side, a small backpack resting by her feet.
Sister Margaletta |
"Archons on a skewer," Margaletta mutters at Izrail, "That one thinks he's some sort of inquisitor." She glares at Ileosa, too, as though it's not worth the time and energy to tell such a wretched creature the name of his patron.
"So," she asks Piven, "You a competent tracker, or we got summat else for that? I don't want to march into an ambush with a bunch of green farmboys."
Izrail Arvanxi |
Izrail turns to face the woman "I'm no farmboy, lass, but neither I'm a scout. I'm Izrail Arvanxi, you'd better remember the name." he points to the gnome. "The militia said he is to show us the way, we are here to either kill or draw the map. So let's get moving, we don't have time to waste insulting each other."
Pivenzobili |
"Thank you miss..Barbatos, yes that sounds right. I don't know why, but I know it to be true!" Pivenzobili is overcome with joy for a moment, but then is assaulted with demanding questions.
"I can not map, I do not know how, I am sorry please forgive me. I also can not track, I only know where I come from and where the Vegepygmies are." He begins to prostrate himself on the ground in submission.
Ileosa Albus |
Ileosa give a small nod as she did her best not to let Jerax's pat throw her foreword. "Y-yes, I managed to convince them that it was time I got some sort of field experience."
When questioned about a temple or a shine, Ileosa seems to look the forest over. "It could be possible Jerax. If this gnome was saved in this forest and believes it was Barbatos then yes I believe there might be." She brought out a small leather journal and showed it to Jerax. "I plan to try and take as many notes as I can and maybe make a map out of those... though I've never done it before..." She said before she put the journal away.
Kirk Hetfield |
knowledge: Religion: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Uh, hello I am Hetfield. My master sent me to kill veggie-people. He slowly makes his way over to the group and gives a courteous bow.
I know not who this Barbatos is nor do I really care for he is not the Dark Prince. The Prince of Law which we all serve. Ileosa, can you make a worthy map for this quest or not? If not, I could possibly give it a shot? But I admit, my experience outside the tavern and town is small.
Jerax Hellfire |
Jerax holds back a snort of laughter, saying under his breath, "..his experience..is short!" (snort)
Izrail Arvanxi |
Izrail looks at the tiefling laughing internally "Do you find something funny, hellspawn? The halfling is showing initiative, something that no other except the priestess have done."
He walks to the halfling and crouches in front of him. "Hetfield, do you have tools to draw the map?" Izrail gets 5 golden coins from his pouch. "If you don't, take this and buy them. But do it so fast, please, we shouldn't be lazying around longer."
Jerax Hellfire |
"Oh, come on, Highbritches! That was funny," chuckles Jerax. "Even the Jadwiga would have laughed at the one", Jerax sighed. "Walked right into that one."
Meridian Anterian |
Meridian's voice is rich with humor, "Well, he would have walked into it if he were a little taller. As it is he walked right under that one."
Jerax Hellfire |
Meridian's voice is rich with humor, "Well, he would have walked into it if he were a little taller. As it is he walked right under that one."
"SEE! She gets it," exclaims Jerax. "Nice one!" Nice one, indeed, thinks Jerax, as he looks over the female tiefling.
Ileosa Albus |
Ileosa gave a small laugh at Jerax's joke but stopped herself before it became a real laugh. She playfully pulled on one the hellspawn's horns, bringing him closer to her. "I understand you humor and it would seem so does one of our allies but please, shall we try to get along? Or at the very least be civil?" She asked with a smile as she let go of Jerax's horn.
Her eyes settled on Izrail as he handed the halfling coin. "Interesting that you would give your own coin for the map making. Interesting indeed." She said as she crossed her arms.
When Kirk returned with everything he needed Ileosa looked at the gnome Pivenzobili. "I believe we are ready yes- Oh... should I have bought a tent..? Do we plan on camping?" Ileosa asked those around her.
Izrail Arvanxi |
"I don't think so, my lady. The trip shouldn't last so long, but..." Izrail turns to Piv "Pivenzobili, how far are is the place you came from? And how far are the pygmies?"
GM-Gathrix |
"OK I have you all signed up. Time to head into the woods with Pivenzobili. I recommend starting with the old ranger trail near the river, the Order of the Pike have recently conducted a patrol there so it is probably clear of the usual riff-raff and the river can provide a decent water supply."
It sounds like Kirk is the designated map maker.Give me a Map Making check DC 10 using one of the afore mentioned skills. You may only do this once as it takes time to draw and the party is moving, I will allow one member to aid the map maker.
*Divination spells are being blocked in the woods by something very powerful if anyone is wondering why the need for a simple map.
Jerax Hellfire |
As the militiaman gives directions to the old ranger trail, Jerax leans back down to Ileosa, and whispers, "Stick by me, especially when s#!t gets dicey."
Ileosa Albus |
Ileosa gave Jerax a slight nod as he whispered to her. "I shall." She reassured him.
After hearing how long they would be gone Ileosa quickly ran close by and bought a tent as well as a blanket. She returned to Jerax's side and took her backpack off of her shoulders and crouched down to put the blanket in. Then after she got it to fit, she set the bag with the tent on top and strapped it down before doing her sleeping bag atop of it. She looked up to the hellspawn as she stood. "I got a medium sized tent, should fix both of us in case you don't want to sleep out under the stars or if it starts raining."
The young priestess picked up her backpack and did her best to situate it back onto her shoulders properly. Thanks to the tent and blanket the weight of her pack had doubled.
I don't know if I can carry all of this...
After a minute of getting use to the new weight Ileosa figured she could handle it, though it would slow her down.
I'd gladly help with the mapping. Have a high wisdom and Ileosa will be taking notes anyways.
Kirk Hetfield |
That would be good as I only have a +1 anyways. It's only a DC 10.
Hetfield dabs the pen into the vial of ink and begins to scribble on the parchment.
knowledge: Geography: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
I think I got this. Point the way Piv!
Pivenzobili |
"Ok fa..follow me everybody." The shy gnome says in such a passive manner its hard not to regard him as simply pathetic. He walks with a carefree gait though and once you pass into the woods he gains some energy.
Give me a marching order/formation. You can walk off the path, but you will be slowed by 5 feet. There is room on the path for two abreast
Izrail Arvanxi |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 16
Izrail would go at the front, his fauchard in his hands and ready to strike.
"Pivenzobili, are there any other inhabitants around here? I swear I can feel like I'm being watched. "
Ileosa Albus |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
Survival: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
If we can aid with any of the map making skills then I shall roll survival with every post after Kirk. If not then disregard this first roll, not that it's any good anyways, and I won't roll it any longer.
And Ileosa stays close to Jerax, and hopefully close enough to Kirk to help with the map.
"I must agree with Mr. Arvanxi there... I feel like someone, or something, has their eyes upon us..."
Jerax Hellfire |
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Jerax stays close to Ileosa.
Jerax doesn't sense anything, but keeps his guard up and his eyes sharp on Ileosa's word. The tiefling decides to unsheath his battleaxe.
Meridian Anterian |
Meridian follows Ileosa's example and purchases a small tent before leaving the city.
While traveling she stays somewhat near Ileosa and Jerax.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 14.
Though she does not sense anything, when the others mention being watched she pauses for a moment to span the crossbow, laying a bolt in the firing groove. She carries it carefully after that, ensuring that it does not point at any of her companions.
Kirk Hetfield |
Hetfield wishes to stay as close to being Izrail and Ileosa as possible. He secures the map stuff for now and gets out his sling staff.
What are you seeing?
Hetfield scans the woods ahead.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Ileosa Albus |
"But... if it is just animals why are they watching us? It doesn't seem like a very animal thing to do..." Ileosa said as she took the heavy mace from her hip. "Are we sure there is nothing else out there?" She asked.
GM-Gathrix |
You are coming to where the path meets the river. Here the path disappears and you can follow the river. The river is wide, approx. 40' across, but calm. It is about dusk now.
There is a good place to camp for the first moon just up the river. Pivenzobili says.
Ileosa Albus |
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Yeeeah nope... all the nope.
Ileosa looked at Jerax after looking over what Pivenzobili called their camp site. "Jerax have you ever set up a tent before? Because I haven't...." She told him. "It was never in any lessons the priests taught."
Meridian Anterian |
Perception DC 19: 1d20 ⇒ 11.
Meridian perks up when setting up tents is mentioned. She steps closer to the Ileosa and Jerax, "I also have no experience setting up a tent. Perhaps we can figure it out together if none of us know?"
Jerax Hellfire |
Jerax sighs, "I've used a tent before, but no tent was every big enough for me to lay completely. My hooves always stuck out."
I suppose I could help you both pitch tents." Jerax sinks his battleaxe into a nearby tree, and gets to work on Ileosa's tent first.
Izrail Arvanxi |
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Izrail leaves his backpack near Ileosa "I'll do the first watch but we'd rather do it two by two. Volunteers?... I can still feel strange." He starts walking slowly around the "borders" of the next-to-be camp.
Kirk Hetfield |
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Hetfield looks around and starts gathering nearby firewood.
Bah, who needs a tent when we have the stars and the trees overhead to provide the perfect canopy.
He then produces steel and flint from his backpack and gets to work setting a small camp fire.
I'll take the watch with Izrail.
Aruetii |
"I'll take the second watch then with whoever wants to take it." Sarvin moves over and sets his gear down by a tree, looking around the forest. One day, he would have enough power and influence that he would no longer have to wade through a damned forest and set up his gear on his own. Until then however, he has to do the work himself. He set about setting up the tent, glad to not have the extra weight bogging him down anymore.
