A'vandira "Raven" Silvermane |
And back. Two weeks of vacation with no internet (hooray for peace and quiet), preceded by some of the most stressful weeks I've had in a long time. Sincerely apologize for dropping off the grid like that. I'll get Raven up to level 4 soonest.
Having slept late, I am cursing the heat of the midday sun when I hear a lot of commotion. Making my way towards the ruckus, I discover some old friends and new crew members engaged in a fight with something in the water. Without thinking I rush forward and dive into the water, swimming towards the battle. Looking around I see a thing from a nightmare apparently trying to draw someone down into the deep, but being hindered by my friends.
Initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Quara Sher |
>.<Ack! Sorry!
Quara grabs Pete and strikes out for the surface; once the target is safely on shore, she'll return to do combat!
LitanyOfCurses |
Welcome back Raven!
Quara breaks off and swims to Pete. you forgot your swim check. I'll roll it to save time
swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
She reaches him and supports his legs. she tries to push him to the surface.
swim: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Quara and Pete make it to the surface.
Amaric tosses the rope to Pete and Quara and hands off the rope to a bystander next to him. With a fluid movement, he pulls his weapon and dives in the water.
Atajay sends sonic damage at one of the fluttering snake ladies.
images: 1d7 ⇒ 7
Luck is with the caster as he manages to land the spell on the real monster. 8 damage
Chavakala's squid attacks. The bite fails to hit anything, but the tentacles hit and an image pops. Chavakala swims to aid Quara with Pete. He grabs the rope and loops it over Pete's arms and secures it to his chest.
images: 1d7 ⇒ 4
The snake lady looks angry and moves deeper into the estuary. 5' move away She launches missiles of force at Atajay.

The golden squid moves five feet back up right after the snake lady and all of her friends and tries to bite and lash at her once again.

Atajay |
"Ow, that hurts!". The sorcerer bides his time, waiting for all his friends to try and pop as many duplicates of the snake woman as possible before taking his action.
Once as many as possible were gone, he casts Ear Piercing Scream again.
Damage 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
DC 18 Fort to half damage and avoid being dazed one round.
Chavakala |
Reaching the surface and handing over Pete, Chavakala releases a burst of healing energy, then quickly dives back under the water, ready to lend her spear to the fight against the snake lady.
Channel Positive Energy: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 3) = 7
Hopefully she's more than 30 feet away, but I figure its worth it either way for Pete and Atajay.
Quara Sher |
Floating on the surface, Quara nods to the people taking over Pete - and then starts to sing. Her voice dopplers oddly, bouncing off what looks like empty air and reaching into distances unseen...
Quara starts casting Summon monster II!
Amaric Drayden |
This is a strange creature! Glad that Pete has been helped, Amaric turns his attentions to the snake lady figures. He swims down and towards them, trying to stab with his rapier.
Try to get within range of the snake lady and attack if possible. If she then tries to attack Amaric, he will use a panache point to use his Opportune Parry and Riposte deed. perhaps too much to repeat verbatim, but here is the link to the class ability description: http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/hybrid-classes/swashbuckler

Raven is drawn to the estuary by the rising voices, and sees her former crew amassing in the water against some unknown foe. She runs towards the water and takes a jumping dive
Swim: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Raven slices through the water like an underwater ballista with her weapon at the ready. within 10' of enemy
Quara begins to cast a lengthy and complex spell.
Amaric does his best to move into position, but his weapon is making it hard to swim. He flounders as he tries to get closer. I'll assume you try another move action to make another swim check
swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Amaric tries again, and compensates with his free hand to move through the water. within Melee of enemy.
Again Chavakala's pet hits with a tentacle.
images: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The tentacle strikes home, and does damage, but does not grab her.
Chavakala produces waves of healing energy which knit the wounds of both Pete and Atajay. heal 7 damage
Atajay releases his spell hoping for the best.

Atajay's luck is still with him, as he strike the real one.

Chavakala |
Chavakala kicks forward, continuing to be supported by Desna's divine aid. Coming in quickly, she aims her boarding pike and tries to spear the snake lady on the fly.
This is my last round of liberation so I'll need to start making checks after this. Hoping I'm far enough away to pull off a charge. If not, just subtract 2 from my attack.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Meanwhile the golden squid continues to bite and try to entangle the dazed creature.
Last round for the squid. Will start bringing in another one next round.
Attack (bite): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 +3 = 8 if evil

Grab if tentacle hits: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Amaric Drayden |
Coming within range, Amaric thrusts with his rapier, trying to pierce the snake woman's hide.
Same action as last post. LOC, do you want me to reroll or would you prefer to take the results of my last post? Actually, I'm happy either way but I'll roll again below so as not to hold up the game. Make normal melee attack, but if she tries to attack me in return then Amaric will use his Opposing Riposte deed ability to try to counterattack.
Melee rapier attack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
opportune riposte: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
counterattack: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
That's a not very stunning series of rolls, that.
Panache points used: 1/4 points
Quara Sher |
Around Quara, the water suddenly boils without heat, darkens, then brightens.
Grinning, Quara swims down again, longsword leading the way. At her side swims a single, golden dolphin, which barrels ahead and attacks one of the serpent women while Quara lashes out at one of the others.
I was hoping for a pod of dolphins, but I only got one. Unfortunate. :p
Quara swims: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26. Quara attacks: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 damage.
Dolphin attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 damage. Smite Evil activated.
Amaric Drayden |
Sure if the option's there then will use previous rolls for Amaric's current actions. Then his latest rolls for the next round, contingent on the situation changing in between his turns.
Quara with that swim roll I think you must be swimming even better than the dolphin!
LitanyOfCurses |
We'll move forward.
Shocked by what she sees, Raven does not attack and treads water.
Quara image: 1d6 ⇒ 1.
Quara lunges at the woman, her blade pierces an image making it disappear
Quara's dolphin makes a pass and misses the nimble enemy.
Amaric image: 1d5 ⇒ 2.
Americ launches into his own attack. He hits a duplicate leaving the real woman untouched.
Chavakala image: 1d4 ⇒ 1.
Chavakala piles on with expert attacks, but like her comrads, She only hits an illusion. Her pet missed entirely, possibly confused by the number of combatants.
2 images left, Atajay, its your go.

The sorcerer again uses his vocal weapon, hoping his aim would strike true yet again.

The water slows down Raven's arrow, causing it to curve and miss. Atajay, once again hits the enemy, but she shakes off the stunning effects.
The snake woman appears to understand that she is out numbered and withdraws with extraordinary speed. She disappears from view into the briny water with the summoned creatures following after...never to be seen again.
Combat is over
The adventures return to the surface and the cheers of the town.
Chavakala |
Chavakala clambers out of the water and goes over to Pete, making sure that her channeling took care of most of his injuries. "I don't know what that creature was, but it is gone for now. Hopefully it will find new prey away from the town." She describes it to the townspeople in case any of them recognize it from earlier encounters or know what it might have been.
Quara Sher |
Quara pulls herself up on shore and vigorously shakes her body, dislodging water from her striped fur before she carefully wipes down her sword and sheathes it.
"A bracing start to the day!" she says, grinning. "I'm sure we'll have a chance to find out more about who- or whatever she was. She's fled for now, but I wager she'll be hacked off and spoiling for a rematch soon enough."
A'vandira "Raven" Silvermane |
"Just let her try. Next time we'll be ready. I will be ready." Looking around I smile at a little kid, beckoning him to come closer. "Wanna earn a few coppers? If yes, please go fetch me a towel and come back." Watching the kid rush off quickly, and returning almost as quickly, I dip my hand into my beltpouch. "Thanks. And here's the money I promised you. And a little something extra."
Giving the kid three silver
LitanyOfCurses |
Town's people move in closer to touch and congratulate the heroes. Murmurs of the creature being a water naga, and how the drought is driving them further down the river, and insane with hunger.
Pete seems out of it. Talk of Naga poison, and 'he may not make it' abound.
heal checks to help
The teenage boy hands the towel to Raven. He stands and watches her dry with a goofy look on his face.
Atajay |
Aid another Heal 1d20 ⇒ 20
The pirate punches the kid in the shoulder. "You'll go blind staring like that, young'un. Run along, now before you embarrass yourself!"
Quara Sher |
Heal to help Pete: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
"Not make it? Not make it?" Quara sputters. "After we did all we could to save his life? Not bloody likely! Here, Petey, let's have a look at those scratches of yours."
The captain gives Pete a thorough examination and does her best to counteract the effects of the poison.
Chavakala |
Even though Atajay and Quara seem to be doing everything possible to help Pete recover, Chavakala kneels and tries to do what she can to help. "A water naga? Further down the river? I wonder if we should go speak with them once we make sure this boy will survive."
Heal to assist: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Amaric Drayden |
Amaric emerges from the river, dripping wet and his fine clothes a mess. He feels somewhat cheated of a good fight, but on one level he feels relieved the creature is gone. During his time wandering lost in the jungles, he'd had his fill of the monsters there. The sooner he set sail and go away from this place, the better.
Momentarily distracted by the sight of A'vandira, Amaric looks down in concern at the others trying to draw out the poison from Pete's bite.
LitanyOfCurses |
Pete's color returns as he beats back the poison's effect with the help of Quara and her team. Villagers, and workers celebrate the groups bravery with hearty handshakes, hugs, and thanks.
you would get a bonus to score infamy points right now, if you were inclined
Hake walks up grinning ear to ear. I knew, I was backin' the right crew. Yer moneys no good here. Eat and drink on the town fer as long as you stay.
you have 3 more days before your ship is ready to sale.
Quara Sher |
"Might be we shouldn't waste time eating and getting drunk, but looking upstream. More Nagas might come... Maybe we can do something about that."
Atajay |
"To be fair, Captain, it took all we had to scare that one off. If it would have blasted me even once more, I think I'd have been done for," Atajay whispers to his boos, out of earshot of the others.
"It might be wise to recruit right now. They saw us in action, so some of them might be willing to serve under us," he suggests to the Boss.
Atajay |
Assist to Diplomacy 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
The sorcerer keeps a high profile the next day, talking up the crew and its mission, supporting Captain Quara during her recruiting efforts.
Quara Sher |
Diplomacy 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Quara tries to talk a good game during the days of refitting and preparation, but it is clear her mind is on other things: the awaiting horizon and the nearby Nagas.
When the group is private, she muses aloud: "You know, my lads and lasses, that Naga was a powerful creature. Imagine having one on our side... When we head out onto the brine, we're going to need to add some nice surprises to our arsenal. Obviously the one we fought won't be amenable, but if ever we meet another one...?"
LitanyOfCurses |
recruits: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Quara's half hearted attempt to recruit more sailors would have failed, if Chavakala and Atajay had not assisted with enthusiasm. While they got a few more, they are still a few sailors shy of a prize crew they would need to prize a ship.
you need at least 2 more for a decent prize crew
Amaric Drayden |
Amaric agrees with the captain that a naga would make for a powerful ally. But, it's plain he is not keen on returning to the jungle to track one down. Rather, he spends his time trying to help where he can with provisioning the ship, eager to get back to sea. In between, he practices his swordplay and heads up to the bluffs to look out at the ocean horizon, longing for open water.
He also spends time trying to get to know the folks here at this station, including the crew of the Rabbit Prince. "So A'vandira, those are interesting tattoos. Varisian, are they? And Atajay, you look like you have some stories to tell. What was your last voyage? I've met a few ship's mages, officers in the Andoran navy, but I confess I don't know much about magic. And Chavakala, where have you sailed from?"
Atajay |
"Outr last adventure involved overthrowing the terrors of the sea, Masters Scourge and Plugg! We had to put them over the side, and feed some damned sea sharks a big meal. Goes to show that being a Captain is more than being strong...you have to have some tact in your manners. They gave us the worst jobs, tried to maroon us on an island, and then finally tried to do us in. Just the usual pirate lifestyle it seems," Atajay says with a cackle.
Atajay |
Whats the name of the big bad original captain in this AP? I always forget. I'll throw him in there, once someone tells me his name, lol.
Atajay |
"And the two bastards I told you about were nothing compared to their chief. A bloke named Harrigan. Evil to the core. We were lucky he was off ship at the time. He might have been too much for us, honestly. Part of the reason we are having the ship scrubbed is to keep him from finding us again. Nasty temper on that one."
