I don't think that's a promise. And you did handle the murderers. You killed four of them, and made sure the other one is gone.

Gear and stuff later.

Fair enough. I thought Yulia's statement was a bit more defined than it turned out to be, but I just wanted to run it by you to be sure.

So what's next, o King? Head home and rest up?

Pretty much. Yulia will swing by the massacre sight to make sure that everything is behind handled alright. Unless something happens, she will probably attend whatever service is held and reassure the people of Jol of their safety.

Once finished there, she will return to her meadhall, ask for a map of Southmoor, and study it. Once she Communes for the night, her question list will look like so...

Question 1: Was Nashatha telling me the truth about the Storm Queen?

Question 2: Was showing mercy to Nashatha a mistake?

Question 3: Can the Storm Queen be reasoned with?

Questions 4-16: Is the Storm Queen located close to (insert landmark here)?

Finding Stormy is the next priority.

Also, could Yulia Plane Shift to Axis/Utopia (the big Lawful Neutral city plane) to sell her loot and buy some things? Getting back to Jol is easy enough; Yuyu has the Mythic version of Plane Shift, which can act as a functional Greater Teleport, and plenty of Mythic Power to fuel it.

Yes, you can (planeshift and sell). The giants/nagas you just fought had two large sets of platemail and two large masterwork halberds.

You'll be unable to commune until the next night, which is good because it ends up being unnecessary.

Yulia returns to her hall well past midnight, and decides to sleep until the morning and then return to the work of finding the Storm Queen. Fortunately, with Thedan’s words in mind, it becomes obvious where they need to go: a massive thunderhead rumbles in the sky, with flares of lightning stabbing the darkness the storm brings.

Imperia confirms that this is no ordinary or natural storm; just about anyone in Jol can confirm this verdict based on years of experience with the local weather.

On second thought, I'm going to delay buying anything until I also sell the items still with Zoarth. I'll calculate the gold total later. Everything sells for half price, correct?

After telling everyone that the giants have been handled, Yulia makes a quick trip to the plane of Utopia to sell some of items that she repossessed from the Storm Queen's minions. Luckily, despite the random nature of the jaunt, she lands near a market and thus sells everything in short time, making sure to get the coin in platinum or light gems of equivalent value. She returns to Jol with a Mythic Plane Shift and then decides to rest. Even if she has most of her spells and mythic power still left over, the Lunar King is certainly mentally exhausted from everything that happened.

Once the storm kicks up and her fears are confirmed, Yulia frowns but steels her resolve.

"I suppose she's realized that her minions aren't returning. Well, any ideas on how we can get there quick, Imp? Yulia Rockne's Almost Greater Teleport won't work; I probably haven't been to that spot. Cloud Walking into a storm doesn't sound much better either."

Corrrect, half price.

"Uh...walk?" Imperia says, shrugging. "If I had a scroll of overland flight that would do it for me, but it's a personal range spell. Once we get close we should be able to dimension door or fly up."

And everything like spells, HP, and Mythic Power (sans the Kimono; one per day) has replenish?

"Just wondering," Yulia says as she begins getting everything in order. After she and Trigva are ready, Yulia finds her third in command and says, "Halleck, we're heading out. Hopefully, today will be the end of this nutty weather."

Once Imperia is ready, Yulia and her friends begin to walk toward the storm.

"I didn't get to verify her story," Yulia informs Imperia as they exit Jol. "If Stormy doesn't resort to violence from the get-go, take anything she says with a grain of salt. Even if Zoarth wronged her, she's gotten many innocent people involved. Something isn't adding up. I mean, at least I keep my feud just between me and that Linnorm. Even if he used agents for his dirty work, my focus would be mostly on him, not the rest of the Grungir Forest."

Buffs for Yulia: Life Bubble on everyone, Magic Vestment on buckler, Mythic Mage Armor for herself and Trigva, 24 Hour Mighty Strength.

Buffs for Imp: Mage Armor, False Life.

Sorry for the delay. Moved house this week, putting a kink in things. Hope to have an update for you later today.

Over the next few hours the King and her entourage begin seeing a handful of giants astride massive raptors (rocs) flying into and out of the cloud.

When they finally arrive at the storm cloud, the sight of it is impressive. Starting half a mile or so off the ground, a miles high column of roiling grey thunderheads rises into the sky. The column is lit in the dying evening light by flashes of lightning from within.

How are you going to get up there?

"She has a flying cloud fortress. That explains so much," Yulia muses as she covers her eyes with a gloved hand and looks up. "Seems like some precision flight is in order. Imperia, do the thing."

After Imperia casts Carry Companion on a certain tiger, Yulia sticks her little Trigva statue in her haversack. While trained to handle the oddities of flying, her animal companion has never exactly been fond of it. As such, Yulia plans to take him up the easy way.

"Alright, you cast Fly, and I'll make us Invisible. Hold my arm, and I'll lead us up. We'll slip right by them. Don't worry about lightning; I got use covered!"

Once both women are ready, Yulia leads the way up.

Imperia casts Carry Companion on Trigva and Fly on herself and Yulia.

After putting Statue!Trigva in her Handy Haversack, Yuyu casts Resist Energy (Electricity) on herself and Imperia and then follows up with Invisibility on Imperia. She uses her Ring of Invisibility for herself.

How long does the fly spell last?

10 Minutes.

It takes two castings of fly each to make it all the way up. The first one gets you into the cloud and to about 3,600'. The second will do the rest.

As the group flies up, both Yulia and Imperia have to dodge out of the way of the random lightning strikes arching through the column of clouds. Visibility within the column is only about 100' feet, and the wind buffets them constantly.

It's not long before two huge white birds swoop out of the roiling clouds, with thunderous shrieks. Mounted on their backs are two huge female giants in full plate armor, with their visors down. They wield gargantuan spears with what appears to be expert skill.

Being in her base Half-Elf form, Yuyu is only medium size right now. Her Fly skill tanks when she assumes a larger shape.

"Looks like I got some birds to beat up," Yulia muses as she rolls her shoulders and flies over to Imperia. While drawing her cold iron morningstar with her left hand, the blonde Oracle places her other one on the smaller woman's forehead and says in Celestial, "Now casting Greater Invisibility. Have fun, Imp."

Yulia then gives her weapon a charge of magic and gets ready to rumble.

Drawing her Cold Iron Morningstar as part of her move action, Yulia flies to N17 and casts Greater Invisibility on Imperia as her standard. She then charges her morningstar with Mythic Arcane Strike as a swift action.

The two rocs flap their enormous wings with cracks like thunder and rocket forward toward Yulia. The heavily armored giantesses stand in their special saddles and lean out to stab at the lunar oracle with their gargantuan spears.

Yulia dodges one of the long leaf-shaped blades, but the other pierces through her left shoulder under the clavicle. It's an extremely painful wound, but not immediately deadly. The rocs screech in primal fury, in mere moments they will impact with the two flying women in an avalanche of talons, muscle and beaks.

"Need to learn Grace," Yulia mumbles as she painfully tanks the giant spear to her chest. The Half-Elf makes a quick mental note to have a cleric teach said to her once the Storm Queen is neutralized.

Realizing that her friend wants to get close to one of their foes without breaking her guard, Imperia grabs Yulia's arm and warps them over to behind the northern roc. The Lunar Oracle seems a bit disoriented between blood loss and sudden teleportation, but a quick burst of mythic inspiration surges through her, and she gets her bearings back quickly.

"Goodbye!" Yuyu chirps as she slaps the back of the roc.

Yuyu! Imperia yells in her mind as she races through her options to free her friend.

Despite all the damage she has taken, the King of Southmoor nonetheless keeps fighting like a champ. Even facing the pain of a powerful vice grip, Yulia manages to grip her morningstar with her mouth and grasps each end of the roc's foot. She then grits her teeth and tries to break the grapple with everything she has in her.

Had her friend not been suffering from terrible blood loss, Imperia figures that Yulia could probably break the lock under her own power. However, the weakened Lunar Oracle's arms begin to falter very quickly. On an impulse, Imperia casts the first spell that comes to mind, one that makes holding Yulia a lot more difficult for the roc.

Despite her annoyance with being covered in Grease, Yulia seizes the moment and twists herself, which causes her giant foe's grip to start loosening. With another burst of mythic power, she successfully pushes away the talon.

Both invisible women then quickly retreat.

Imperia casts Grease on Yulia's Otherworldly Kimono. She then flies to R25.

Yulia uses her standard action to try and break the grapple. With a mythic surge and the Grease bonus, she just manages. After that, she uses Amazing Initiative to activate her Ring of Invisibility, which does not provoke an attack of op. Now completely undetectable, she flies to D17.

Having no knowledge of the Giant tongue, Yulia ignores their remarks and spends the next round Healing herself. Her wounds rapidly knit and mend, and the Lunar Oracle is once again able to focus. With her strength renewed, she begins thinking over her plans for future combat.

Imperia takes the chance to be a bit more aggressive. She silently moves closer to the giantesses and their rocs and smiles when she sees that they are all grouped together. The Chelish woman quickly gathers two spheres of raw, concentrated magic in her hands and then hurls them at her foes. The magical orbs crash into each other at the dead center of the enemy group, resulting in a huge explosion of energy that attacks their very sanity.

Imperia moves to K26 and casts Confusion on all the giants and rocs. DC 20 Will or become confused.

Yuyu casts Heal on herself.

Wanting to save on her spells, Imperia just opts to follow her enemies as best she can. Knowing Yulia, the Lunar Oracle is bound to come roaring out at some point in a more powerful form. Once she does, the Sage Sorceress will support her.

After kicking herself for her lack of preparation, Yulia decides to fix that problem. Given that her defenses held up rather well again the barrage of attacks she either dodged or deflected, the Lunar Oracle decides to address the bind that the grapple put her in. She quickly gives herself a little Freedom of Movement. She also travels a bit closer toward her enemies.

Imperia double flies -C39.

Yulia casts Freedom of Movement and moves to D28.

Any second now... Imperia thinks, waiting for Yulia to break her stealth.

Said Lunar Oracle quickly throws up a Mythic Shield of Faith and uses some of her inner Desnan power to make it last twenty-four hours. Her muscles shrink down to normal size, but Yulia pays it no heed. With her defenses patched up, she begins thinking up a plan of attack.

Imperia does nothing.

Yulia casts Mythic Shield of Faith and extends it out to 24 Hours. That would end her Mighty Strength. She then flies to H34.

Imperia continues to watch the scene unfold but makes a mental note to get ready to cast her own Invisibility. She would hate to suddenly become visible right next two strong enemies who had nearly killed Yulia. However, the Court Mage figures that she has maybe thirty or so minutes left of Yuyu's stronger Invisibility, so no need to it right that second.

Yulia recasts Mighty Strength. It will not last an entire day like the prior casting, but it is still one of the more useful spells she has for melee. She also rises a bit higher in the air and then flies closer to the giantess instead of the roc. Hopefully, her larger foe will be rather beaten up by the confused bird.

Imperia continues to wait patiently.

Yulia moves within striking distance of the giantess and throws up one last buff: Divine Power. She also recharges her morningstar with her inner arcane power.

Imperia does nothing.

Yuyu flies up right next to the giant, casts Divine Power, and charges her weapon once again with Mythic Arcane Strike.

One more time: 1d100 ⇒ 29

The giantess finally manages to get the roc under control, during a brief lucid moment. She urges it to fly away as quickly as possible, not knowing the invisible oracle hovers over her.

She provokes an AOO, do you want to take it? If not, the roc+giant will fly 240' away.

Yup.

Just as the giantess plans to retreat, Yulia makes a very controlled swing at her foe's face. Her decision to trade power for control pays off; her morningstar strikes true. Despite the relative size of her weapon to that of her enemy, the sheer strength behind the attack leaves a nasty welt.

"Going somewhere?" the blonde Half-Elf asks nonchalantly as she gets ready to make several more swings.

Yulia smashes the giantess in the face, but continues to fly away as fast as she can.

Your+Imperia's turn. They are both out of sight now (100' visibility in the cloud).

We can end combat actually...unless you have a way to find them in the cloud.

"With her luck, the Roc will finish the job for me," Yulia says with a slight smirk. Truth be told, she is not entirely sure what to think about what just happened. Dieing at the talons of a giant bird was not exactly how she wanted to go. As such, she opts to just call for Imperia.

Once the Sage Sorceress and Lunar Oracle reunite, Yulia remarks, "That was the closest I've been to dieing in... decades. I owe you my life, Imperia. You were magnificent."

While casting Freedom of Movement on Imperia and then splitting a Communal Air Walk between them, Yulia stares off in the direction she thinks that the Storm Queen lurks.

"Any suggestions for proceeding? Stormy means business now."

"She's gotta be in here somewhere, let's stay invisible and keep going up before our fly spells run out again," Imperia replies.

"Sounds like a plan," Yulia agrees with a nod. She looks at her ring and says, "I'll lead the way."

If nothing stops them, the Lunar Oracle wraps a strong arm around her friend's waist and then uses her ring to turn invisible. Imperia casts the same spell on herself. Once both of them are out of sight, Yulia begins to steer them into the depths of the cloud.

Next bit needs a bit of tricky map prep. I'll get it up tomorrow probably.

Yulia and Imperia far further upwards into the turbulent storm cloud, and eventually a scaffold-like lattice of supports and platforms emerges from the mist. The platforms are large enough for a roc to roost on, and they are connected by 5-foot-wide catwalks for others to navigate. The object appears to be a massive flying barge of some sort.

As they approach, the flapping of huge wings can be heard. A huge serpentine dragon with scales the color of the desert sky rustles about on one the larger platforms below the barge. Lighting arcs slowly back and forth over its scales. As of yet it seems unaware of the duo.

I'm not sure what else I could ask for... Attacks maybe?

"Better power up," Yulia remarks to herself, remembering just how badly she performed against the rocs and their riders due to her lack of preparation.

After searching her mind for a stronger form, Yulia steps away from Imperia and quickly casts a spell. Her already large, powerful frame more than doubles to fourteen in size. The Lunar Oracle's muscles bulk up and surge in size, and her skin darkens to a light shade of purple. Two extra sets of arms slip out of her kimono sleeves. One of her six large hands grabs her morningstar and gives it a twirl, charging it and her other powerful fists with magical energy to beat the Dragon's defenses.

She almost decloaks to challenge the beast to a duel, but the Lunar Oracle pauses as something comes to mind.

If he's anything like his Linnorm cousins, then he won't give me an honorable fight, Yulia thinks quietly in her head, debating on what exactly she wants to do. And underestimating those bird riders nearly go me killed. If I perish, then Southmoor is defenseless against the Storm Queen. It would be very dishonorable to put my wants before the kingdom and the people's safety.

As such, Yulia takes advantage of her perfect stealth, walks right up to the dragon, and unleashes a large wave of sonic energy right in his face.

Yulia casts Monstrous Physique III to become a calikang, sneaks up to AM/AN-31/32 (she's now large size), and uses her breath weapon on him. The Dragon needs to make a reflex save* or take 14d6 ⇒ (1, 6, 6, 4, 4, 5, 6, 5, 1, 4, 5, 5, 3, 2) = 57 sonic damage.

HP: 123/123, AC: 42, Mythic Power: 9/15

*I'm not sure what the exact DC is. The calikang entry lists it as DC 22, but the universal monster rules says that breath weapon DCs are DC 10 + 1/2 breathing creature's racial HD + breathing creature's Con modifier. If Yuyu's Oracle levels count as racial HD, then the DC is 19. If not, then it is 13.

If you touch it, you get electrocuted, and it breathes lightning.

Further updates later...

Dragon's reflex save: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20 Passed either way.

Save for half damage?

The dragon hisses in surprise as it is blasted with a huge wave of sound from the strange six armed beast. It's preternaturally fast reflexes ensure that it avoids the majority of the blast despite being taken unawares. The dragon roars back at Yulia, and breathes a thick, ropy, twisting burst of lighting over her at point blank range.

Yulia's save versus frightful presence: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20
Duration (in rounds): 5d6 ⇒ (3, 6, 3, 3, 2) = 17
Yulia is shaken for 17 rounds.
Electricity damage: 12d8 ⇒ (7, 6, 1, 2, 5, 3, 5, 2, 6, 2, 3, 7) = 49 DC 23
Yulia's reflex save: 1d20 + 18 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 18 - 2 = 34
Yulia takes 24 electric damage.
Any mods to the above rolls due to ongoing buffs that I've missed you'll have to point out to me.
Recharge: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Something primitive and animal in Yulia shrinks away from the mighty draconic roar. Fear takes a tight grip on her guts as she somersaults over the blast of lightning. Yulia avoids most of the shock, but a few tendrils of arcing energy still race over her body, burning her.

Your turn.

Save for half damage. Can't believe I forgot to mention that tidbit.

Due to fear of getting struck by lighting, Yulia cast Resist Energy (Electric) on herself and Imp before taking flight. Because of her caster level, it would give her a resistance of 30, which absorbs the breath damage.

Yulia feels a shiver go down her spine as the mighty dragon asserts his power. However, despite her newfound hesitance, the Lunar Oracle's own supernatural reflexes let her nimbly dodge the worst of his breath. Whatever manages to hit her is absorbed by her magical protection.

However, the King of Southmoor stands her ground. She quickly recharges all her weapons with arcane energy and adds a little bit of mythic power to make them extra effective against the dragon. Yulia then unleashes a fury of blows upon her foe.

____________________________________________

After spending a point of mythic power to charge her weapons to +3 Dragon Bane via Mythic Arcane Strike, Yulia stands her ground and full-round attacks.

+3 Dragon Bane Slam 1 (Shaken, Bane): 1d20 + 24 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 24 - 2 + 2 = 42
+3 Dragon Bane Slam 2 (Shaken, Bane): 1d20 + 24 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 24 - 2 + 2 = 39
+3 Dragon Bane Slam 3 (Shaken, Bane): 1d20 + 24 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 24 - 2 + 2 = 33
+3 Dragon Bane Slam 4 (Shaken, Bane): 1d20 + 24 - 2 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 24 - 2 + 2 = 27

Damage 1: 1d6 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + 14 + (2, 2) = 19
Damage 2: 1d6 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 14 + (6, 6) = 31
Damage 3: 1d6 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 14 + (1, 6) = 26
Damage 4: 1d6 + 14 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 14 + (1, 6) = 27

HP: 123/123, AC: 42, Mythic Power: 8/15

The dragon screeches in pain as the morningstar strikes it three times.

Cast defensively: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18 Pass

The dragon chants a spell, and its scales gleam briefly as a spell of protection comes into place (mage armor).

Your turn. Its AC is 32.

Also, you take 1d6 electricity, but are protected from it.
