"Okay. Considering what you are capable of, I think anywhere is a "safe spot" as long as we don't advertise our presence with a fire." Imperia replies, eager to hear more about Yulia's lead.

"Imperia, do you know anything about someone called the Storm Queen? From what Desna has told me and how the hill giant chief, Grunf, spoke, it seems like she is a giantess of some sort. She is also quite rich it seems; she hired the entire band that attacked Zoarth."

To get ready for her nightly communion with Desna, Yulia finds a clear patch of dirt to write in and gets her sickle out to scratch whatever she writes out that night.

In the morning, Yulia sends a Sending message to Zoarth.

"Hey, Zoarth. Yulia speaking. We have a name of the one who hired the giants. She's called the Storm Queen."

Once Yulia has memorized the answers and gotten a reply from Zoarth, she gets rid of the marks from the ground and...

Imperia doesn't know anything of a Storm Queen.

Question 1: Yes.
Question 2: He actually pointed Northwest, four days for a giant is 90 miles. The city of Jol is there.
Question 3: Uknown, but likely based on her name.
Question 4: Unknown.
Question 5: Unknown.
Question 6: Probably.
Question 7: Wouldn't you?
Question 8: Not likely.
Question 9: Not likely.
Question 10: Unknown.
Question 11: Unknown.
Question 12: Unknown.
Question 13: Most likely.
Question 14: Doubtful, he peed his pants after you left.
Question 15: Unknown. He probably has better things to do than get killed. Especially since he's not stuck in that giant anymore.
Question 16: Last time I looked he was fine.

"Never heard of her. Make sure she won't be an issue, please." is Zoarth's reply.

Yulia brings Imperia up to speed about her findings.

"Lady Desna was really chatty last night; I'm talking complete sentences, Imperia! Anyway, she is pretty sure that the Storm Queen hired Grunf, who probably won't be hearing from again. Stormy most likely has more servants, and I don't think it would be a stretch to say that she's a caster. Zoarth has never heard of her."

Yulia glances northwest.

"Lady Desna thinks that Jol is a good place to ask around. Grunf was actually pointing that way. It's about 90 miles from this point, which is quite a walk. So I'm thinking that we Wind Walk there to save time. Do that little statue thing with Trigva, and we'll head off."

Yulia pauses as she looks in the direction from which the two women just traveled.

"...I've been meaning to talk to you about something, Imp. You see, I've changed my mind. Once this is all said and done, I'm thinking about taking that Linnorm corpse and making myself King of somewhere. I can go on a proper hunt later. I figure it might be easier to... settle the score with Jörmungandr if I have a country of resources under my command."

Yulia details her current assessment of the state of the Linnorm Kings to Imperia.

"So in short, Broken Bay is an isolated dump, no one lives in Icemark, Sveinn Blood-Eagle would probably beat me into the dirt, the Fey, Jörmungandr, and Fafnheir make the Grungir Forest impossible to rule, and I have no intention of tossing White out of power. So that leaves Hagreach and Southmoor. They both have their problems, though."

"Hagreach is certainly the easiest option. I can just walk into Trollheim, present the corpse, and declare myself King. I plan to leave Freyr Darkwine in charge of the Blackravens; heck, I will probably throw some more funding his way. So no real opposition from him. However, we would have Irrisen breathing down our necks. Do you know anything about them right now?"

"Southmoor has actually a lot of personal value to me. It's close to my friend's Kingdom. My Order likes to romp around out west. The seat of Desnan religion is really close. I could go on. However, I would to kick Opir Eightfingers out of power. It is probably within my ability, but... something tells me I would have a lot of problems to fix before I could do anything meaningful. When you have people like Chief Grunf running around free to do what they please, you that Eightfingers' reign has left much to be desired."

"So what's your take on all of this?"

Little Statue Thing means use Carry Companion on Trigva.

"I'd rather fix things around here, and kick a useless ruler out of power than take on Irrisen. There's a reason they took as much of the Linnorm Kingdoms as they wanted last time there was a big war. If we were to piss off Baba Yaga..." Imperia trails off with a shudder. "Airwalking to Jol sounds fine, we'll probably be able to discover more once we get there."

Imperia casts the requested spell on Trigva and the trio heads to Jol.

Jol is a small city, though covering a large area as if it were several large towns grown together. Its people are a hardy folk accustomed to harsh conditions and unruly barbarians.

Opir Eightfingers claimed the title of Linnorm King after staggering into the city with the (slightly decayed) head of a linnorm lashed to his back. Because some folk think he found a dead linnorm rather that slaying it himself, some doubt his legitimacy as ruler, and local steadings often ignore his pronouncements.

When the trio asks around in Jol about the Storm Queen or anything to do with giants, no one can offer them any real help. People seem mostly interested in talking about the weather. While that is often the case, in this situation, it’s significant. People mention that the wind should be coming out of the north this time of year, but it’s coming from the south and the east, and it’s warmer than normal too.

Eventually, someone points inquisitive trio in the direction of local sage Thedan Nammas, a man living outside the city in a house full of books. His home is a small log cabin with a thatched roof. As the trio approaches, the smell of freshly baked bread greets them.

Always one to take the most practical route, Yulia simply knocks on the door.

"Hello? Mr. Nammas? May we speak with you?" Yulia inquires in a nice, friendly voice.

A tall and remarkably thin man, with overlarge features—ears, chin, and nose answers the door. He smiles and says, "Hello. How may I help you?"

Yulia returns the smile. "My name's Yulia Rockne. These are my friends Imperia and Trigva. I'm looking for information on a giantess called the Storm Queen. After asking most of Jol, someone pointed me your way. Can you help us?"

"Please, come in," he says, leading Yulia and Imperia into his home. The house is cramped with books, scrolls, and manuscripts. Thedan offers them some freshly made tea. After everyone is settled he addresses the question. "I've never heard of anyone calling themselves the Storm Queen. Though in the light of recent weather patterns, I find the name intriguing."

Female Half-Elf Lunar Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) 13/Hierophant-Archmage 8 | HP 80/139 | MP 11/19 | AC 52 | T 31 | FF 42 | CMD 41 | Fort +12 | Ref +19 | Will +13 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +9 | Perc +20

Yulia accepts the tea, thanking the sage for his kindness. Once everyone is settled, she starts talking, "I've been wondering about that. Can you tell me more about this odd weather? No one in Jol really said anything besides pointing out how abnormal it is."

"I thinks the strange weather is linked to a sort of ritual keyed to a mysterious jewel called the orb beyond. The orb beyond is a large gem from another world tied metaphysically to the spirits of those who have died wrongly but whose names are now forgotten by all remaining alive. Called the Pale Ones, these are the hungry, angry spirits of those who cannot be avenged, but forever seek vengeance. The orb slips from world to world of its own volition, enabling the creation of doorways through which the Pale Ones can travel. To use it, one need not be a spellcaster. However, the orb beyondis drawn only to those who seek revenge."

He pauses for a moment to sip his tea and let that sink in. "The ritual in question," he explains, "tears a hole in the world. It’s a process without finesse, and it must be done in a locale with some significance to the creator. For example, a human might create a hole in a city, a fey might tear a hole in the forest, an efreeti might tear a hole in a volcano. He believes that because the weather is being disrupted, the hole is high in the sky. However, I don't know if this is linked to the 'Storm Queen'."

"If you give me a few days to do some research, I might be able to turn up something on this 'Storm Queen'. I charge a rate of 5 gold pieces per day. Is there anything else you'd like me to look into?"

"That sounds like a promising lead."

Yulia puts down three hundred gold pieces.

"These might seem like totally unrelated and random requests, but could you also write me a list of reasons about why King Eightfingers' reign has left Southmoor in such bad shape? Also, I would like to know as much as possible about the current state of events in Irrisen. Didn't something major happen there recently? If you have to focus your attention, the Storm Queen is first, the list is second, and Irrisen is third. Again, I know that's a lot of ground, but I've been wondering those things for years, and you seem like the first man I've met in a while who can give me answers."

Knowledge (Arcana): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (4) + 21 = 25 Does any of that sound familiar to Yulia and Imperia?

"I'm afraid I'm a simple historian, dear. I have no idea what's going on in Irrisen these days. I can however give you my personal opinions of "King" Eightfingers. He garners so little respect that he is king only in name. Few believe he actually earned the title, so most just ignore his decrees, which are usually selfish anyway. In my opinion he's nothing more than a thug who fancies himself clever. His grip only extends as far as his personal reach, which is basically Jol." Thedan takes twenty of the gold pieces. "This should be plenty to get me started, thank you. Come back in a few days, I should have something by then."

"Fair enough," Yulia replies with an amused smile as she puts the way the rest of her money. "Regardless, thank you for your assistance. I suppose we can hang out in Jol for a few days. If you need anything, just ask."

Yulia looks over at Trigva, who is lazily but protectively curled up by Imperia's side. She cracks a grin at the sight. He can be such a cub at times. "Let's leave the sage to his work, Imperia. We have some things to talk about during this lull."

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

Once Yulia and Imperia are safely by themselves, the Lunar Oracle begins laying down her plans. "That sounds a lot like what we heard in the city. I'm actually half-tempted to grab my Linnorm and crash Opir's party right now. That's how mom would have done it. Desna's Stars, that's how any of my human people would do it! However, you're more cautious, and I respect your word. So I just wanted to get your opinion on for the future. It seems like we have four days. Want to enact a dynasty change? Or wait and bide our time? Just saying, from what we've encountered, I'll either be playing Sixteen Questions with Desna for a few weeks, or Mr. Nammas is our man."

"I'm down for it if you are. I'm not sure we'll be able to be immediately helpful, but I'm confident you could take on Opir Eightfingers. If we take over and then go on to solve the weather issue just afterward, I think the people will be grateful. The weather's already bad enough around here, they don't need an artifact making it worse."

Female Half-Elf Lunar Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) 13/Hierophant-Archmage 8 | HP 80/139 | MP 11/19 | AC 52 | T 31 | FF 42 | CMD 41 | Fort +12 | Ref +19 | Will +13 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +9 | Perc +20

"That would make for a strong first impression." Yulia mock flexes her muscles to emphasis her point. "Might as well do it now. Even with my spell, that Linnorm corpse isn't going to last forever."

Yulia glances over at Trigva, who is following their conversation curiously.

"Sorry, boy, but you'll have to sit this one out. This fight is going to be a duel."

Trigva moans and gives his master a frown. Yulia just chuckles and scratches behind his ear, causing the tiger to close his eyes and making a purring-like sound.

"Let's go get the head then. With an Ant Haul spell and some Mighty Strength, I can probably lug it back. I know Linnorms weight a lot, but Opir had no problems carrying his head here."

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

Given that Yulia's Wind Walk would last fourteen hours through Inspired Spell, I think she had enough time to go the Linnorm head. So she can carry it with no problem, she will cast Ant Haul and Mighty Strength on herself, extending the latter to 24 hours. She will use the greatsword to hack it off.

Female Half-Elf Lunar Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) 13/Hierophant-Archmage 8 | HP 80/139 | MP 11/19 | AC 52 | T 31 | FF 42 | CMD 41 | Fort +12 | Ref +19 | Will +13 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +9 | Perc +20

Feel free to correct any of these presumptions.

Yulia turns back into a cloud via her Wind Walk spell and takes off, leaving Imperia and Trigva to head into town to start rumors about a new challenger to King Eightfingers' throne (one who actually has a Linnorm head to back her claims) and spread the tale of quickly she killed the beast. Yulia is not surprised to find the Linnorm corpse in the same state she left it. Her spell has prevented decay from taking place, and few things would both a Linnorm unless they know its dead for certain. It takes Yulia a few moments to severe the head, but the Giant Bane Greatsword proves useful in that regard.

Her spells let her carry the head back to Jol with relative ease. From years of study, Yulia knows that Linnorms typically weight thousands of people, but the bulk of that seems to be in the body, not the head. After all, even Opir Eightfingers was able to carry his supposed kill's skull into Jol without issue.

Yulia lands in an isolated spot. From there, she makes the relatively short trek back to Jol, Yulia showing off her Linnorm head the entire way to anyone who passes by. She briefly thinks about the battle that she will probably have to fight against the current King. Truth be told, Yulia finds herself a bit worried. She is going to have to fight this one with minimal assistance and probably little magic buffing. Trigva and Imperia have always been quite instrumental in her recent battles. In straight fights where she lacked prep time and the element of surprise, they often saved her skin and bought her time to ramp up.

Once she presumably has gathered a crowd (How could she not? She's running around with a giant Linnorm head while a certain Sorceress was spreading the story like wildfire), Yulia stops to address them.

"People of Jol, I think anyone can see that there are a lot of problems in Southmoor. However, King Eightfingers doesn't seem to keen on doing anything about them. He has had quite awhile to do something, but alas, nothing. Well, nothing that helps you all. Given those facts, I think it's time for a change in dynasty!"

"My name is Yulia Rockne. Some of you might recall that I helped White Estrid during her Linnorm hunt. As you can see by this handsome, well-preserved head, I intend to be the next Linnorm King of Southmoor. I know that you might hesitate to believe that I did not just find this guy by chance. However, unlike King Eightfingers, I have proof and witnesses. See how this sword and morningstar are covered in the beast's blood? And if someone did not see my kill, how else could the story have beat me to the city? And the witnesses just aren't all merely human. Ask any Desnan cleric who can Commune with the Great Dreamer if Yulia Rockne killed this wyrm, and they will answer 'Yes' without hesitation. And if that is not enough, I will go kill another Linnorm to affirm my claim.

"Now, enough talk. I believe I have business to attend with 'King' Eightfingers."

With her piece said, Yulia continues her march to the current Linnorm King's residence.

Won't be able to get to this today, hopefully tomorrow.

It's cool. I already expected some waiting with the homebrew aspects of the story.

Okay, finally have a day to myself and am feeling a little better. Let's see what I can come up with.

Opir Eightfinger's residence is a large timber hall, in the traditional northern style. By the time Yulia arrives there, a huge crowd has gathered. Well, huge for Jol anyway. It seems virtually every person who isn't occupied with essential work has come to see what will become of this strange half-elf, bearing the head of a linnorm and cursing their "king". Some of their faces show hope, others disbelief, still others hate. The latter appear so thuggish that Yulia can only assume they are the beneficiaries of Opir's "reign". A large open circle forms out of the crowd around the main doors to the hall. Yulia plops the linnorm head down on the ground and puts one foot on its head. A moment later the doors to the great hall open, and Opir's huskarls file out. They are hard-looking scarred men, fully armed and armored. Following them comes Opir himself. He is a huge man, standing nearly seven feet tall with shoulders as broad as an aurochs. He wears a breastplate which is clearly magical, and has a greatsword strapped to his back. He sneers at Yulia. "What do you want, girl?"

Female Half-Elf Lunar Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) 13/Hierophant-Archmage 8 | HP 80/139 | MP 11/19 | AC 52 | T 31 | FF 42 | CMD 41 | Fort +12 | Ref +19 | Will +13 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +9 | Perc +20

Glad your doing better. No worries if you want to take our time with this.

"It's not what I want, son," Yulia counters with a confident grin. "It's what I intend to do. First, I'll take the throne of Southmoor as my own. Then, I'll fix the problems facing this land. The ones you've ignored."

While not quite as tall as Opir, Yulia is still rather imposing herself: a towering Elven height of 6'4" with the powerful build of her Ulfen ancestors, further enhanced by her Mighty Strength spell.

"I know you won't just step aside, King Eightfingers," Yulia says as she readies her hands expectedly. "So how are we going to do this? Will both of us walk away from this duel, or will only one win? The current King should get the choice."

Yulia is not exactly sure what the "official process" is for switching Kings is, but she is prepared for anything.

Eightfingers smiles. "A challenge? Ha! It's been years since one dared raise their blade to me. I'll happily fight you, wench. This is my realm, and I'll die before I give it up!" He takes a few paces forward and the ring of people closes behind him. He unlimbers the long steel on his back, and stretches his neck and shoulders. As he does so, his huskarls and guards fan out around the ring, closing it in with their shields. They draw their axes and blades and begin to pound them against the rims of their shields, drumming up a rhythmic beat. He waits for Yulia to draw her weapon.

Don't really need a map for this. You start 30' away from each other, in a 30' radius ring formed by the crowd.

Yulia initiative: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (11) + 8 = 19
Opir init: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20

Opir roars, and a set of giant, fiendish horns erupt from his forehead at the same time that huge wicked barbs erupt all over his flesh and through slits in his armor. He charges across the ring before even the mighty Yulia can react, and brings his greatsword down at the oracle in a heavy overhand chop. His demonic-rage driven blade shatters through her magical defenses and sunders flesh and bone as easily as if they were paper. Yulia can feel the papable aura of evil radiating off him in his rage, she guesses standing toe to toe with this monster will be most unpleasant. The crowd gasps in horror at the sight, while Opir's men roar and cheer.

Charge Attack: 1d20 + 24 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 24 + 2 = 33 Hit

His AC is 19, Fort +17, Ref +9, Will +12. He's a level 13 barbarian, like it says in canon. Good luck!

Yulia draws her sickle, twirls it a bit, and then clenches it rightly in her gloved hand.

"Let's dance," she whispers more to herself than anyone else.

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

Yulia staggers under the incredible force of Opir's opening attack as it cleaves deep into her chest. Such a mighty blow would have killed any normal woman, but the Lunar Oracle is proves to be anything but; somehow, she manages to move just enough to try something surely fatal into something painful but ultimately survivable.

He's a demon! That's how he's still King! Yulia brilliantly concludes in her mind. Her emerald eyes very briefly glance her audience and see the fear in the average citizen's eyes, only confirming the Half-Elf's clever deduction.

Yulia looks back at the demonic Opir as he moves for another attack.

...Another hit, and I'm dead.

Yulia grits her teeth in frustration. After being allowed to draw her weapon, the Oracle had hoped that this battle would be an honorable fight, a display of (mostly) nothing but pure physical and combat prowess and nothing else. That fantasy had just been shattered by the demon man's greatsword.

However, since Opir Eightfingers had broke out supernatural powers in the first six seconds of combat, Yulia Rockne sees no harm in doing so herself.

"That it?" she says with a cocky grin before clapping her hands dramatically.

A field of mist engulfs the combatants, and within it, Yulia vanishes from sight.

Standard: Defensively casting Obscuring Mist. With a +21 concentration, Yulia auto-succeeds the DC 17 check.

Opir whirls in the mist, roaring "Run and hide all you like! That won't beat me!"

Technically he just entered his rage, which is not supernatural. But if Yulia chooses to see it that way, who am I to stop her :P

Since he literally can't detect you (due to Mythic thingy), you essentially get as many rounds as you want to buff.

I know. Just roleplaying a 10 Wis Character with little education, no ranks in Knowledge (Planes) or Sense Motive, and a history of trusting people she shouldn't, all after taking a greatsword to the chest and losing a lot of blood. I was aware how silly it sounded (hence the dry narrative), but I can see Yulia being superstitious about things she doesn't understand. Even after all her adventures, a man "transforming" into a demon so openly is probably a new and scary experience for Yuyu.

Yulia feels her mystical kimono's magic kick in, making her utterly undetectable while Invisible. Well, at least in theory. A certain Linnorm did once prove to her that a lucky shot of dispelling magic could ruin everything. As such, Yulia is careful regardless of her temporary advantage and slowly moves to the edge of the mist as quietly as possible.

Fully well that she cannot take another hit from Opir, Yulia first applies magical first aid to her terrible chest wound. Her flesh quick knits up, leaving her with a moderate cut instead of a giant, bleeding gash. The Oracle then applies another layer of defensive magic, hopefully one that will hold. She quickly asks Desna for a blessing, which the star deity seems to readily answer.

Before moving out, Yulia quickly breaks her invisibility.

"Behind you, Eightfingers!" Yulia calls out as she readies her sickle to attack her enemy when he emerges from the mist.

Turn 5: Swift action to charge weapons to +3 Human Bane. Ready an attack to hit Opir as he comes into range. By my math, there should be give feet between Yulia and the mist where he will come out.

HP: 101/123, Mythic Power: 9/15, AC 41.

Long work day, and busy busy week. Preparing to head back to home country for a few weeks for the first time in three years! I might be scarce over the next few weeks, please bear with me.

That's fine, Jelani. Thanks for the heads up.

Opir roars over to Yulia, and slashes at her through the thick mists. With her additional defenses in place, the blade doesn't even touch her. It pushes through a few of her shields only to stop several inches from her flesh.

1d20 + 24 ⇒ (12) + 24 = 36

Female Half-Elf Lunar Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) 13/Hierophant-Archmage 8 | HP 80/139 | MP 11/19 | AC 52 | T 31 | FF 42 | CMD 41 | Fort +12 | Ref +19 | Will +13 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +9 | Perc +20

Yulia swings her sickle as Opir brings his sword down and cuts the King's left arm the instant her shields stop his sword. She then grins and rapidly counterattacks the Linnorm King three times. However, despite his bulk, Opir easily dodges the first blow. While Yulia catches him with the second strike, the barbarian takes it like a champ and easily blocks her third attack with his sword.

Yulia's grin quickly falls, and the Lunar Oracle quickly realizes that she is likely in for a world of pain. She contemplates running off again, but would the people of Jol take her seriously if she did? She cloaked the first instance well, but could she do it a second time?

With a sigh, Yulia pushes aside her more logical ideas of the elven half of her mind, and her Ulfen side takes over as she readies herself for Opir's retaliation. Hopefully, she'll live long enough to heal off the damage.

BoF Attack (Power Attack, Bane): 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 15 - 3 + 2 = 16 Miss.
Attack 1 (Power Attack, Bane): 1d20 + 15 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 15 - 3 + 2 = 32
Attack 2 (Power Attack, Bane): 1d20 + 10 - 3 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 10 - 3 + 2 = 16 Miss.

Damage: 1d6 + 12 + 6 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 12 + 6 + (5, 4) = 33

Between Yulia's two connecting attacks, Opir has taken 60 damage a.k.a. a mild nose bleed for a raging Level 13 barbarian.

Yuyu's readied action goes off as Opir attacks. She holds her ground and picks the extra attack from Blessing of Fervor. Yulia then full-round attacks. Probably a silly move if Opir manages to hit her, but hey, no one's going to take her seriously if she just runs around and takes out Opir via death of a thousand papercuts.

Notes for me: HP 176/230, Rage 30/37

As Yulia stands next to Opir, the aura of evil radiating off his demon-infused flesh wreaks havoc on her body. Her skin splits open all over her body in painful cuts, and she feels a deep supernatural fear take root in her stomach.

His greater fiend totem rage power makes you take 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 slashing damage, and be shaken as long as you are adjacent to him (damage at the beginning of his turn).

Opir laughs as he sees Yulia shredded by the force of his rage. With an inarticulate bellow he swings his crude greatsword at her again.

Attack on Yulia: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (17) + 24 = 41 Poss Crit

Apologies in advance...this is gonna hurt! (>_<)*
Damage: 4d6 + 56 + 4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 5, 6) + 56 + (2, 5, 3, 3) = 84

The blow is harder than anything Yulia has encountered in her entire life. It shatters magical shields like paper, then continues through muscle, clavicle and ribs tearing her left lung wide open in a cacophony of pain that she'd never imagined was possible. A lesser being would have died instantly, but Yulia is made of tougher stuff.

Female Half-Elf Lunar Oracle (Ancient Lorekeeper) 13/Hierophant-Archmage 8 | HP 80/139 | MP 11/19 | AC 52 | T 31 | FF 42 | CMD 41 | Fort +12 | Ref +19 | Will +13 (+2 vs. enchantment) | Init +9 | Perc +20

As the sheer pain of Opir's attack overwhelms her frame, Yulia sees her life flash before her eyes. Even the mighty Jörmungandr's earthshaking attacks hurt less. She staggers back as she feels her blood spill in pools. Yulia's blurred eyes look up at Opir Eightfingers, and for the first time in many years, the Lunar Oracle whimpers in fear.

"Yulia, know that Desna loves you."

The final words of her Sixth Trial flash through her mind. Suddenly, the pain is not as bad as before. Scratch that. It is much less than before. Yulia glances down at her chest and sees her Otherworldly Kimono shimmering like one of Desna's night time skies.

"Thank you," she whispers softly.

While the blow's worst effects have been negated, Yulia still feels herself weakening fast. She quickly belts herself with her most powerful healing spell. Despite her shakened state of mind, the crossbred woman remembers her father's lessons on defensive casting and manages to completely heal all her wounds.

The Lunar Oracle then cuts a nice line across one of Opir's thighs before hopping back to escape the effects of his rage aura.

"That tickled," she says with a smirk.

Selecting +2 bonus on attack rolls and a +2 dodge bonus to AC and Reflex saves from BoF.

Yulia's Otherworldly Kimono's Legendary Fortification activates. By expending one point from its four point pool of Legendary Power, Yulia can negate the critical hit and instead take normal damage.

Yulia defensively casts Heal as standard. She burns a point of mythic power for an extra standard and attacks Opir. She then takes a five foot step away from Opir. Without a map, I'm not sure where she would step, but I'm sure there's a way she could.

Heal Defensive Casting DC 27: 1d20 + 21 - 2 ⇒ (9) + 21 - 2 = 28

She makes the defensive casting check, so don't worry about rerolling damage. She heals off everything.

So take 39 less damage.

Oh I forgot, you take 1d6 slashing every time you attack him. Please take that into account from now on.

HP 153/230, Rage 29/37

Opir growls in frustration as the oracle manages to undo his work yet again. "Run and heal yourself all you want! I CAN DO THIS ALL DAY!!!" He lunges forward, quick as a jungle cat, and levels a horizontal blow at Yulia.

Attack: 1d20 + 24 ⇒ (4) + 24 = 28

His aim is off, and the blow deflects off her magical shields harmlessly.

Choosing the extra attack this round from BoF.

"SAYS THE DEMON DECEIVER!" Yulia growl-retorts as she takes three more swings at Opir.

Once again, Opir Eightfingers shows Yulia why he has been the Linnorm King of Southmoor for many years. The Oracle's first attacks almost comes incredibly short of hitting her foe if not for a sudden burst in her reaction time. Due to this occurrence, she manages to barely but still successfully cut his other thigh. However, her last two blows are easily dodged, likely due to the terrifying presence of the mammoth man's demonic aura throwing off her aim.

Feeling a cutting sensation against her skin, Yulia quickly takes another hop closer to the center of the circle and away from Opir.

I just realized that I've been forgetting Yulia's extra strength bonus to her attack rolls from the Mighty Strength spell. The breakdown should be 9 BAB, +7 Strength (3 Normal + 4 Spell), + 3 Enhancement = +19. It probably would have made a difference earlier, but I'll just say that Yulia was a bit intimidated or something, so her aim was off. Also forgot the Bane bonus to attack rolls last round, but that wouldn't have mattered. All damage rolls have been correct as far as I can tell.

Opir's incredible miss completely shatters his guard. Despite her earlier nervousness, Yulia seizes the moment and quickly dances around her larger opponent, attacking weakened spots as she goes. In her first truly impressive display of combat prowess during the battle, she lands three powerful cuts on King Eightfingers.

None of his frenzied attacks manage to penetrate the mythic defenses of Ms. Rockne.

Choosing the extra attack this round from BoF.

Finally seeing victory within her grasp, Yulia holds nothing back. The Lunar Oracle taps into her well of mythic power, lets out a fierce roar that would scare a Linnorm, and swings her sickle of death with all her might. The attack (perhaps the best Yulia has ever made in her life) slices right across Opir's throat, causing a fountain of blood to pour to the ground. However, to his credit, the devastating blow fails to kill King Eightfingers.

The Oracle's next hit does the job. As her foe staggers backward, Yulia almost misses the follow up blow. However, she adjusts her footing just quickly enough to let her blade fully cut the fiend's windpipe.

So ends the reign of King Opir Eightfingers.

A hush falls over the square, which has filled with what seems like the majority of the city. The sudden silence stands in stark contrast to the pounding of weapons on shields and the shouting that rent the air moments before. There is a collective intake of breathe from the townsfolk, which is followed by a thunderous cheer! The chant starts quietly at first, but then grows to fill the sky. "Rockne, Rockne, Rockne, ROCKNE, ROCKNE!" Opir's huscarls slowly let their arms fall limp to their sides, looks of utter disbelief on their faces. The looks on their faces betray the tumultuous thoughts rushing through their brains. But there is one thing that very few question in the Lands of the Linnorm Kings - might makes right! It is mere moments before the first of the huscarls kneels, placing his axe and shield at Yulia's feet. There is a sudden rush, like a dam breaking, and soon Yulia is surrounded by a ring of hardened warriors kneeling in supplication to her, offering her their weapons. They look up the the gore-covered slayer of dragons and kings with fear in their eyes, uncertain if the demi-goddess will spare them her bloody sickle.

For once in her long life, Yulia simply relishes in her success. After multiple failures and disappointments, this is a very welcome change of pace. The Lunar Oracle vows right then and there that Ulfen history, nay, all of Golarion will remember King Yulia Rockne.

If only her mother could see her now...

Yulia watches intently as the huscarls offer their weapons to her. She also notes the fear in their eyes, not unlike the same terror the people and herself experienced when Opir revealed his demonic powers. The Half-Elf knows that fear can be an effective way to rule people, but she would much rather be loved and respected like her friend White Estrid and the senior Linnorm King, Sveinn Blood-Eagle.

As she continues to listen to the chant and roar of the crowd, she replays the battle in her mind. True, Opir's... powers had been quite scary. However, something seemed a bit... odd about them. Perhaps Imperia could explain it to her better, but scary aura and horns aside, Opir had more or less just swung his blade at her.

Maybe she had assumed too much...?

Yulia holds up a hand for silence, and once she receives it, she gives her first command as Linnorm King of Southmoor.

However, the Lunar Oracle sheaths her sickle before saying anything.

"I accept your service, huscarls. Prepare Opir's body for a proper funeral. He died a warrior's death, and in these Lands of the Linnorm Kings, we honor our warriors."

Yulia turns to the rest of the crowd, and keeps her next decree simple and sweet.

"Spread the word, people of Jol. King Yulia Rockne nows reigns over Southmoor. A golden age like no other will soon be upon us!"

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

Once the craziness dies down and she cleans herself off with a well-applied Prestidigitation spell, Yulia links up again with Imperia and Trigva. Once she finds her friends, she immediately hugs them both.

She whispers to Imperia.

"...Two questions, Imp. One: What was up with Opir? Two: How do we get these people to accept a Chelaxian in the royal court?"

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

When she can find the time, Yulia sends five Sendings to various people across the realm.

Zoarth: "Yulia speaking. Search continues. Found a lead on the Storm Queen. Will keep you posted."

Sveinn Blood-Eagle: "Yulia Rockne speaking, new King of Southmoor. We probably have some things to discuss. Send representative to Jol if you want."

Freyr Darkwine: "Yulia Rockne speaking, new King of Southmoor. Looking forward to helping with Irrisen. Send representative to Jol if you want."

White Estrid: "Hey, White. Yuyu speaking. I just toppled Opir Eightfingers! There is now a second female Linnorm King! Whoo! ...Looking forward to hearing from you."

Raelrunodin: "Hey, dad! I'm now King of Southmoor! How cool is that?!"

She said funeral because while I know flaming pyre on a longboat at sea is probably the tradition, they are also several miles inland.

Yulia wrote:

She whispers to Imperia.

"...Two questions, Imp. One: What was up with Opir? Two: How do we get these people to accept a Chelaxian in the royal court?"

"He was a totem rager. Certain berserkers can tap into a totem animal or creature and gain powers from it. Opir appears to revered some manner of spiked fiend, perhaps a horned devil." She pauses to adjust her glasses. "Is there a royal court? I got the impression that beyond tending to his personal needs and lust for power Opir didn't actually do much to run things around here. We may have to create the royal court."

The huscarls thank Yulia, and take Opir's body away to prepare it for the pyre. They will take his most prized possessions, dress him in them and then burn his body on a huge pyre of birch logs. The smoke will carry his soul to to Pharasma's boneyard. (Or so the old stories say. Yulia is aware that technically the soul doesn't wait around for the burning, but goes to the Boneyard immediately after death.)

Once Yulia takes over Opir's hall and cleans herself up, one of the huscarls approaches to tell Imperia that they will burn Opir at dawn on a hill outside Jol. Aside from his huscarls, and a harem of a dozen or so women, Opir's 'court' appears to have consisted of only one man. Halleck Piniefrost is an aging man whose bald, wrinkly head is ringed by a whispy white beard. He wears the spectacles and robes of a scholar or priest. Once introduced to the new King, Halleck bows deeply. "Your grace, I served Opir Eightfingers as steward. I oversaw the collection of taxes, and the day to day running of his hall. How might I serve you?"

Sendings

Zoarth: Ok.

Sveinn: Oh! What a surprise. I will send someone.

Freyr: What? Is this a joke?

White: Excellent news, Yulia. Desna truly blesses your hands. Could not be more happy for you. Let me know if you need anything.

Dad: What!? Amazing! I love you. Be careful, and remember what your mother and I taught you. Miss you.

Yulia nods at Imperia's explanation. That does make more sense than a demon King in disguise. It also seems that she mixed up her fiends again.

"We'll just establish a court then. I imagine that I'll be traveling a bit to fix this place's problems, so someone will need to keep things running while I'm away."

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

Concerning Opir's pyre, Yulia allows the huscarls to do what they wish to do. There are many conflicting opinions about Opir Eightfingers, but he still died defending his throne as a warrior and a Linnorm King. In Yulia's mind, that deserves a proper and honorable funeral.

As she enters her new hall for the first time, Yulia gives her second decree as King of Southmoor.

"As per tradition, I want my Linnorm head to be stuffed and preserved, so find me someone who can do that."

Her third decree is also pretty simple. It comes as she takes her new throne.

"My friends Imperia and Trigva are to be respected at all times. There will be consequences for whoever defies this one."

Yulia pats her Linnorm head for effect.

As her personal animal companion (and as a big, fierce tiger), Trigva will probably not be bothered much, but Yulia does worry for Imperia. The Sage Sorceress is certainly powerful, intelligent, and competent, but she is also much less durable than the new King of Southmoor, and her countrymen aren't exactly the most well-liked people in the Lands. Hopefully, once Imperia starts being associated with good happenings around Southmoor, the people will accept her.

Yulia plans to attend the pyre. If nothing else, it will help establish the new dynasty change.

For the time being, Yulia does not kick anyone out of her new hall. If anyone wants to leave, she would rather they have a proper place to sleep before departing. She gladly meets with Halleck Piniefrost.

"A pleasure to meet you, Halleck. For now, you may continue with your duties, though I plan to get you some help soon. Now, tell me about how we currently collect taxes and the present state of our military."

~~Linnorm King: The Slayer of Fafnheir~~

When she has the chance, Yulia casts a second Sending addressed to Freyr Darkwine.

"No joke. Was part of White Estrid's Inner Sea voyage. News will spread soon. Just giving a head's up. Hope for border talks soon."

To be honest, I don't really have the motivation to get bogged down in all this kingdom stuff. I keep going to do it, and then being like "Ugh..too much stuff to learn."

Can we just say that you put Imperia in charge with Halleck, and continue on with the adventure? If you have some specific thing you want to do for the kingdom or with the kingdom I can come up with some way of handling it. But I'm realizing that kingdom building isn't really my cup of tea.

Sure thing. Another one of my DMs on these boards felt the same way. We can just summarize how things are going. In due time, Yulia will probably find some more people to help out Imperia and Halleck, but we can just keep them in the background.

The next few days pass in a whirl as Yulia and Imperia work to establish their rule in Jol. They attend the funeral of Opir Eightfingers, and begin the process of forming a properly functioning government. Imperia has many ideas from Cheliax that while they aren't very Ulfen, are effective. Soon they have plans drawn up for beginning to collect fair taxes from the whole kingdom, and incorporate the whole area by beginning military recruitment and patrols to defend the settlements. The people of Jol are ready for a change and they work willingly with their new king. It's on the fourth day of her rule that Thedan asks for an audience.

"Your majesty, I am here to report my findings. I have found no historical reference for anyone called the Storm Queen. However, I am convinced that whoever she is, she is a creature of the sky, interested in vengeance, and in possession of the orb beyond." The historian pauses for a moment to let that sink in. "I'd advise you to look to the skies for any unusual disturbances."

As he is talking, the boom of thunder shakes the hall from outside. Through the window it can be seen that dark clouds gather rapidly and fill the sky. Amid fierce winds and frequent lightning strikes, it begins to rain—but what falls isn’t water. Thedas looks alarmed as a strange reddish, gelatinous goo that comes down in fist-sized clumps begins falling on Jol. It’s soft enough that it doesn’t inflict any real damage, but it coats some of the townsfolk as they run for cover. After just 30 seconds or so, the rain turns to real water.

Perception check(s) please.

"What in Desna's Stars is going on?" Yulia mumbles as she steps outside and begins scanning the skies.

Her keen eyes don't fail her. However, some of the goop rather humorously lands on Yuyu's face as she searches. After she wipes it off, the Lunar Oracle continues to look around for "any unusual disturbances" as she has just been advised.

Not sure how many checks you want, so here's six. If you meant for Imperia to join in, her Perception mod is +17, so just subtract two off.

Busy day today, might not get a post in until tomorrow.

Yulia notices that the globs of goo move slowly across the cobblestones of the street or the rooftops upon which they fell. When two clumps meet, they join to form a larger one. A minute later, anyone could see that there are fewer, but larger, gobs of the stuff around.

Imperia frowns. "This can't be good. It looks like they are forming into creatures similar to the normally subterranean gelatinous cube. They fell all over the city. We've got to destroy them before they start killing people!"

Okay, we're going to handle this as a sort of skill challenge type combat. There are dozen of these things spread throughout the city. They are slow, so most people can outrun them for a time. The storm is still raging, so all attack rolls and Strength-, Dexterity-, or Constitution-based checks suffer a –2 penalty. They have an AC of 4, and no kind of DR or damage resistance. They each have 58 HP. Assume it takes a double move (AKA 1 round) to get from one cube to the next. How fast can you and Imperia kill them? They essentially can't harm you, so this is more about saving your subjects. The faster the cubes go down, the less innocent people die. You have three rounds of prep time before they finish forming into actual creatures.

I'm probably going to chop this post in two. The buffing rounds for Yulia are Mighty Strength, Monstrous Physique III, Mythic Arcane Strike (a swift action), and Mythic Haste. Trigva gets an Animal Growth from Imperia, and a Mythic Haste from Yuyu.

"Trigva! Come!" Yulia calls out loudly, knowing that the tiger is probably the fastest of the Trio.

After hearing that her subjects are in danger, Yulia quickly powers up with all the essentials. After calling Trigva over, the Lunar Oracle sends of urge of Mighty Strength through her body, causing her muscles to bulk up like they did before the fight with Opir. She also quickly assumes her Four-Armed Gargoyle form and charges her claws, teeth, and horns with the mythic power from arcane magic in her blood and bones.

Imperia does not waste any time either. Once Trigva runs over to his the two women, the Sage Sorceress quickly blasts him with Animal Growth to get the tiger to top physical form.

"Trigva, attack any goop that chases people. Do not attack anything else. Go that way," Yulia orders as she blasts everyone with a Mythic Haste. She then tells Imperia, "Trigva can reach them in no time. Me? D-Door us around. We'll be most effective that way."

Imperia nods. She quickly spots one of the subterranean gelatinous cubes starting to pull itself together and warps herself and Yulia the Gargoyle over to it. The creature never knows what hit it as Yulia's stone claws, teeth, and horns rip it to nothing. They quickly repeat the strategy twice more.

Under the effects of the Mythic Haste, Trigva races around the city like a bolt of white and black lightning. He follows his orders carefully, always attacking any ooze chasing after people and nothing else. His great size makes it a bit difficult at times to maneuver, but the extra speed of Yulia's spell lets the tiger position himself for precise pouncing. He manages to down three just as fast as Yulia and Imperia.
