@Juliet: Nooo, a real Swashbuckler. D:
Now people will know I'm just a bootleg dip version of it! (Order of the flame is my favorite, by the way: get that combo counter flowing!)

Just for confirmation. If you take Combat Reflexes, this provides additional "Reaction" actions that can only be used for what use to be AoO? Or can they be used for any "Reaction" action (Immediate actions, readied actions, etc?)

Per the new rules (I have no clue why they seem to insist in stuffing anything important into a sidebar), it appears that Combat Reflexes just provides additional AoOs, but I want to confirm this.

That's the way I'm reading it: Combat Reflexes only gives you additional AoOs, nothing more.

I am going to assume that when you are talking about Finesse Training (Campaign Info tab, Unchained Classes spoiler, first sentence), you mean Dex, not Str.

I'm interested. I've got a magus and a hunter waiting in the wings. I'm curious to see if or how they'd shine with limited Magic. If recruiting is still open (22nd right?), I'll submit a character after after work tonight.

F. Castor wrote:

Don't know what you're talking about. No sir/ma'am, nothing to see here. Nope. Move along.

*whistles*

EDIT: @Reiterpallasch - go for it, recruitment still open! Only one concept per person, though, please.

No problem! Ill be thinking on the background at work today. Maybe review some other applications to see which class is a better fit. Thanks for your consideration.

The Flurry of Blows decision looks solid DMU. Thanks. Requiring the use of the second attack to get the second attack at no penalty saddled with the normal attack of -5 (from Level 11 onwards) does a good job of keeping the RAI of flurrying costing more than just a 'Standard' Action I think.

Thanks for your help - getting these rules into a useable state has been a collaborative effort.

One request/suggestion. Can Lore be made a class skill for everyone as long as the topic is thematic to the character background? I put in one skill point for Lore:Criminals of Korosova which makes sense but having only one +1 in it is kinda useless. +4 would make Lorick at least somewhat knowledgeable at first level.

"Lore is always considered a class skill for all characters", or so it says in the Pathfinder Unchained book.

Heh. Missed that sentence. Good stuff. Thanks F.Castor.

Talking about that though. It doesn't make sense to me that the DC for Lore checks is the same as for Knowledge checks. Why wouldn't someone with Kn:Local as a class skill just take Kn:Local instead? Is Lore meant to handle situation like Lorick's where he really should know a lot about the situation he's in but as a monk doesn't have Kn:Local as a class skill?

Oh, right, I forgot to ask: is "The Curse of the Crimson Throne" something ok for the Lore skill? As in, names of the monarchs and their untimely ends, causes and year of death, popular theories about what's up etc.

EDIT: @Azih: The way I see it, is for things you willfully want to limit. By picking Knowledge (Local), you will be familiar with those things for everywhere you go: if you end up in, say, Absalom, you'll roll Know.(Local) to know where the most famous tavern is, even if your knowledge is focused on Korvosa's criminals.
Plus, you can't use background skill points to pick K.(Local), anyway.

Yeah, Lore seems to be useful only in the context of having background skills. It gives character not normally skilled with knowledge checks the opportunity to at least be knowledgeable about certain things which make sense for their background. As I see it, skill starved martials are the ones most likely to dip into Lore, thanks entirely to those background skill points. Sure it could be used for a lot of reasons, but that's what stood out most to me.

For myself I ended up picking it up just because I didn't have room in my adventuring skills to pick up the relevant Knowledge skill.

In this case I didn't have the room to fit in a rank of Kn: Arcana, so I picked up Lore: Necromancy instead.

@Tyenar: Lore (Monarchs of Korvosa) is probably what you want. Also, thanks for that list of characters; I'm going to do a quick summary of progress with some comments.

Firstly, although this is a playtest, fundamentally I'm looking for good concepts: an interesting character, intriguing background, well fleshed-out NPC friends, and a tie of some sort to Gaedran Lamm.

Secondly, we've made much better progress than I thought we would in terms of sorting out the rules we're going to play by and attracting interest. I'm therefore going to close recruitment altogether on Monday 22 June. I'll doubtless spend a few days agonising over the choices, before making an announcement - with a view to getting the first gameplay post up on Saturday 27 June.

Thirdly, I'd really appreciate it if you will put your character sheets into this format.

Finally, here's a summary of where we are - any questions, post them here or PM me. BTW, an alias is NOT required at this point: if you have one, that's fine; if you don't, that's fine.

Still haven't heard about the one application I'm waiting on -- if I haven't heard by the end of the day I'll break down and complete the build. In order to spare myself the indignity of question marks, the character's name will be Virielle.

I figure if we're both selected we can have some fun practicing our swordplay.

I'm real interested, once I hit level 3, to see how the Order of the Flame plays out. Seems like there has to be a point of diminishing returns, but I plan on taking it to the limit!

Concerning character sheet/profile format, is mine ok (it is the format Erevan uses)? It is the one I have come to prefer, as it is pretty close to the standard PF/HeroLab format with just a difference here or there. And it does have descriptions of racial traits, class features and other special abilities (such as traits, drawbacks and the like) at its end.

Basically, being a wee bit OCD and having gotten used to it, I am asking if I can keep it as is. If not, I will of course make the necessary changes if selected.

Juliet D'Artangen wrote:

Tyenar is a pragmatist that picked up a sword a month and a half ago: he won't do pirouettes, cape flapping, and various swashbuckler's displays of bravado. That's why he isn't getting any extra Panache from charisma (aside from the basic 1)!

"Why are you wasting time taunting them instead of stabbing them?" is probably what he's going to say watching a normal swash fight. :P

@F.Castor - the one you've got is ok; one of the things though that I like about the template I've provided is that it gets you to spell out all your skill bonuses (e.g. 1 skill point, 3 class skill, 2 Dex, -1 ACP, +1 trait bonus), so that you can see exactly how you reach the modifier that you do. It also gets you to provide links to your feats and traits so that I can see exactly what the rule as written is without having to look it up. It's really helpful.

Of course it's not a dealbreaker if you don't use it, but if everyone uses the same template it's much easier for me to review them as a group. Everything that makes this process easier for me is much appreciated.

I know that everyone seems to worship Herolab and the mismanaged confusing at best export that it produces (I look at this as choosing quick and easy over quality), but I have to agree DM Unchained, I like character sheets that spell out what the feats and traits are, what ALL of a person's skills are, and more importantly where any bonuses came from, and a clear breakdown of attacks, CMB, CMD, etc. Most of my newer characters all have this, not sure if Tirion, my oldest character, has it, but Tkaara definitely does.

Actually, having the feats and traits/drawbacks link to their descriptions in the PRD is pretty nifty. I will certainly be doing that. :-)

I do the math breakdown anyway just to reassure myself I haven't made a mistake. Don't do the link to the PRD though...

Liberty's Edge

I have put Julius in your format, I have added a spoiler for the main section (a inquisitor has a large number of abilities at level 1) a separate spoiler for the spells (I haven't seen a spell section).
I have added a small bit of informations on the contacts and corrected some spelling error.

I have paid for 1 month of average lifestyle, we are in a city after all. And it make tracking some expense easier.

Agile Feet (6/day) (Su)
As a free action, you can gain increased mobility for 1 round. For the next round, you ignore all difficult terrain and do not take any penalties for moving through it. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 +your Wisdom modifier.

Inquisitor Domain (Travel)
Granted Powers: You are an explorer and find enlightenment in the simple joy of travel, be it by foot or conveyance or magic. Increase your base speed by 10 feet.

Judgment (1/day) (Su)
Starting at 1st level, an inquisitor can pronounce judgment upon her foes as a swift action. Starting when the judgment is made, the inquisitor receives a bonus or special ability based on the type of judgment made.
At 1st level, an inquisitor can use this ability once per day. At 4th level and every three levels thereafter, the inquisitor can use this ability one additional time per day. Once activated, this ability lasts until the combat ends, at which point all of the bonuses immediately end.
The inquisitor must participate in the combat to gain these bonuses. If she is frightened, panicked, paralyzed, stunned, unconscious, or otherwise prevented from participating in the combat, the ability does not end, but the bonuses do not resume until she can participate in the combat again.
When the inquisitor uses this ability, she must select one type of judgment to make. As a swift action, she can change this judgment to another type. If the inquisitor is evil, she receives profane bonuses instead of sacred, as appropriate. Neutral inquisitors must select profane or sacred bonuses. Once made, this choice cannot be changed.

Judgment of Sacred Destruction (Su)
The inquisitor is filled with divine wrath, gaining a +1 sacred/profane bonus on all weapon damage rolls. This bonus increases by +1 for every three inquisitor levels she possesses.

Judgment of Sacred Healing 1 (Su)
The inquisitor is surrounded by a healing light, gaining fast healing 1. This
causes the inquisitor to heal 1 point of damage each round as long as the
inquisitor is alive and the judgment lasts. The amount of healing increases by
1 point for every three inquisitor levels she possesses.

Judgment of Sacred Justice +1 (Su)
This judgment spurs the inquisitor to seek justice, granting a +1 sacred/profane bonus on all attack

Judgment of Sacred Piercing +1 (Su) Class Ability (Inquisitor)
This judgment gives the inquisitor great focus and makes her spells more potent. This benefit grants a +1 sacred/profane bonus on concentration checks and caster level checks made to overcome a target's spell resistance. This bonus increases by +1 for every three inquisitor levels she possesses.

Judgment of Sacred Protection +1 (Su)
The inquisitor is surrounded by a protective aura, granting a +1 sacred/profane bonus to Armor Class. This bonus increases by +1 for every five inquisitor levels she possesses. At 10th level, this bonus is doubled against attack rolls made to confirm critical hits against the inquisitor.

Judgment of Sacred Purity +1 (Su)
The inquisitor is protected from the vile taint of her foes, gaining a +1 sacred/profane bonus on all saving throws. This bonus increases by +1 for every five inquisitor levels she possesses. At 10th level, the bonus is doubled against curses, diseases, and poisons.

Judgment of Sacred Resiliency 1: Magic
This judgment makes the inquisitor resistant to harm, granting DR 1/magic. This DR increases by 1 for every five levels she possesses. At 10th level, this DR changes from magic to an alignment (chaotic, evil, good, or lawful) that is opposite the inquisitor's. If she is neutral, the inquisitor does not receive this increase.

Judgment of Sacred Resistance 2 (Fire) (Su)
The inquisitor is shielded by a flickering aura, gaining 2 points of energy resistance against one energy type (acid, cold, electricity, fire, or sonic) chosen when the judgment is declared. The protection increases by 2 for every three inquisitor levels she possesses.

Judgment of Sacred Smiting (Magic) (Su)
This judgment bathes the inquisitor's weapons in a divine light. The inquisitor's weapons count as magic for the purposes of bypassing damage reduction. At 6th level, the inquisitor's weapons also count as one alignment type (chaotic, evil, good, or lawful) for the purpose of bypassing damage reduction. The type selected must match one of the inquisitor's alignments. If the inquisitor is neutral, she does not receive this bonus. At 10th level, the inquisitor's weapons also count as adamantine for the purpose of overcoming damage reduction (but not for reducing hardness).

Monster Lore +3
The inquisitor adds her Wisdom modifier on Knowledge skill checks in addition to her Intelligence modifier, when making skill checks to identify the abilities and weaknesses of creatures.

Background:

Julius is a member of the extended Sobachescky family. They are a Varisian family whose history extend back for hundred of years. Some of the family tales go back to the times of Starfall. One notable branch of the family has produced at least one Blackblade magus in each generation.
A large majority of the family mender are followers of Desna.
Julius branch of the family in the recent generations has had bad history, joining Sczarni bands and resorting to thuggery and small time swindling to live.
Julius was born on the road between Magnimar and Korvosa, after one of the numerous occasion in which the family had to leave a city to avoid the consequences of their actions.
Julius father, Dragoljub, finally settled in Korvosa, in the poor district outside the north wall of East Shore. A few years after they settled in Julius mother died of childbirth, leaving Dragoljub with 3 sons: Drago, Julius older brother (12 years old at the time), a 4 year old Julius and the newborn Alenka, his sister.
Broken by his wife death Dragoljub became a shiv addict. Who took charge of the family was Drago, that joined a Sczarni band to bring up enough money to feed his brother and sister. He tried to avoid the same fate for his brothers, finding a elder priest willing to teach the basic of Desna faith to Julius apprenticing his sister to a tailor.
Less than a year ago Drago was accused of murdering a merchant in the course of a theft. Julius, sure of his innocence (at least of the murder), was forced to search for the help of a local crime lord, Lamm, who "found" a eyewitness willing to testify that Drago was elsewhere. [I have changed the background trait a bit, but it seem to fit with the framed (family honor) trait]. To pay for the help Julius had to promise to work for several years for Lamm. Only after Drago release he discovered that almost certainly it was Lamm that framed Drago.
Currently Julius is 19 years old and has worked for Lamm for almost a year and hate with all his hearth what he do.

Contacts:

His family:
Drago, Julius elder brother, a middle ranked member of a Sczarni band. Drago is very protective of his younger brothers. He is regularly breaking the law but he generally do non violent crimes, mostly scamming and thieving. He has partecipated to some beating but never kileld anyone.
He is a CN rogue. 27 years old.
Dragoljub, father, shiv addict, destitute, 43 years old. He has an history of scamming, thieving, probably even banditry. CN with Evil tendencies.
Alenka, 15 years old, tailor apprentice. CG
Brother Yllian, a cleric of Desna (probably an adept), CG, 67 years old.
He is old and frail, but likes his student and is very sad as seeing him work for Lamm.
Katrina, a member of the city guard. She was the one that did the investigation when Drago was accused of murder. While a strict follower of the law she is very honest and had some doubt on the charges against Drago. She was taken aback when the witness exonerating Drago appeared and is unconvinced of his testimony.
As the murder is still without a culprit she is still investigating it in her free time.
She has some suspect on what Julius did and keep an eye on him.
Julius has a crush on her and occasionally has given her some information on Lamm activities helping her prevent some crimes.
LG, 24 years old, female, member of the city guard.

Description
Ht: 5' 10"
Wt: 180 lbs (muscles, not fat)
Age: 19
Hair: black
Eyes: Black
Skin: tanned

Description: very much the quintessential Varisian, he generally wear a shawl and know how to read a Harrow deck. Normally clean shaved, wear earrings, has a birthmark resembling a butterfly on his left hand. He is pleasant looking but nothing special. Generally dress in bright colored garments.
If you have Varisia, birthplace of legends, the guy on page 9.

DM Unchained, I'll get my sheet updated to your format ASAP.

Had unexpected dinner arrangements tonight. I'll see about submitting tomorrow. Have a good handle on a background, just need to build crunch for it.

I was accepted into the other games I was up for, so I will be withdrawing from this one. I'm very tempted, because this game looks very cool -- but I know my limits.

To all other potential applicants -- don't shy away from being a full-caster. There are some feats that raise DCs (Spell Focus) and Caster Level (Varisian Tattoo, Angelic Flesh) which you might find useful.

Besides, there is more to casting than DCs. Limited magic makes spreading your attributes around more viable, and I suspect makes PrCs more useful. If having a casting stat start higher than 16 gives you little benefit, then being an Arcane Trickster, Arcane Archer, or even Mystic Theurge becomes a lot more manageable.

Just something to think about.

The needed feat is Skill focus spellcraft. With that an intelligence based spellcaster can use overcloked spells with a decent reliability and benefit for his full caster level.

Essentially limited magic+overcloked spells add a feat, skill and action tax to get what in other games is the norm. And make the intelligence based spellcaster the strongest (unless there is some trait that allow a character to use other characteristic with spellcraft).

Those that will have problems are:
- characters with few skills
- characters that need feats for other things
- non intelligence based characters

Seeing how it work probably I will end burning a feat and maybe even my first stat increase here.

Well, I think I am finally done. A bit of streamlining, such as making it so the feats and traits and such link to their description in the PRD, will be done if selected, once the character profile is set up properly. So, here you go.

Of Books and Covers:
Vaenathis, or Vaen for short, has the fair skin and silvery white hair of his elven father and the violet eyes of his Varisian mother. Standing just a little over five feet and ten inches tall, he is slender yet fit, his build the result of his mixed parentage and his training in the ways of both combat and subterfuge. He shows a preference for comfortable fitted clothing, ideally well made, and light armors, unwilling to sacrifice freedom of movement for better, but more encumbering, protection. A two-handed sword with a slender gently curved blade and of decidedly elven craftsmanship rests in a matching scabbard slung across his back, having been trained in its use during his time living amongst elves. Although that is his weapon of choice, it is not however his only one, as he also keeps two identical daggers concealed in a pair of spring-loaded wrist sheaths of dwarven make, just in case.

The Journey So Far:
Once, around three decades ago give or take a couple of years or so, an elven ranger and scout by the name of Caledrin Konnal passed through Korvosa. Although he called Kyonin home, he would often find himself away from his homeland mostly due to some mission given to him by elves with either the position or the wealth to do, but on occasion because of simple wanderlust. Thus, that was not the first time he had visited the large city. One of the more open-minded of his kind, especially where relationships -friendly and otherwise- with non-elves were concerned, he counted humans, dwarves, gnomes and Halflings among his friends, some of them close ones at that. And as one might have expected from one who counted his lifespan in centuries, especially one who was not above not only mingling with others not of his race but also flirting, once in a little while he would fall for the occasional human woman.

And that is what happened between him and Alina, who at the time was a young and beautiful, as well as spirited and outspoken, serving maid in one of the city’s inns. Though of common birth and common means, she had a fire in her, and that, along with her vibrant violet eyes, was all it took for Caledrin to fall for her. Their affair lasted for the entirety of the elven ranger’s stay in Korvosa, which was a couple of months short of a year, and when the time came for him to leave, there were no tears involved in their parting. Instead, they agreed that they would meet again, the elf promising that he would be back within a year, two at the most. Truth be told, Alina did not believe him. Surprisingly enough, she should have.

It was a little over two years later, but Caledrin did indeed return. And when he paid Alina a visit, he found she was not alone. There was a half-elven baby boy keeping her company. His son. Her reaction was certainly a good one. She hugged him and kissed him, although not before telling him with a deadpan expression that he was late. The elven man was also happy, happy to return to the woman and actually happy to find he was now a father, if also more than a little surprised. He remained alongside Alina and young Vaenathis, or Vaen for short, for almost a year before he had to leave once again and return to Kyonin. This time, however, he would not do so alone. The young Varisian woman found that is was difficult to raise their son alone, lacking as she was in both time and money. With a heavy heart, she asked Caledrin to take him with him, be a father to him, until the time that she would be able to care for him properly. Although dubious at first, Caledrin decided to do as she asked. The boy was of his blood after all, so he took him with him when he left for Kyonin, settling in Greengold and taking it upon himself to raise his son until Alina sent word again.

Time passed, weeks and then months and then years, and even though time does pass for elves in the same way it does for humans, it started to seem to the elven ranger that perhaps his love had forsaken her son and him. But it also seemed to him that maybe, just maybe he did not mind all that much. He quite liked spending time with his son, seeing him grow so very fast or so it seemed to him. And despite not telling him much about his mother, he did tell him about himself whenever he asked. And the more young Vaenathis learned about his father and his skills, the more he wanted to do as he did, learn what he knew. And seeing it as one more way to bond with him, the elf did not object, teaching and training his son and imparting to him his skills, such as how to fight with a sword and move about quiet and unseen and even how keys were not necessarily needed to open locks. And once Vaen was old enough, Caledrin would now and then take him with him when he traveled, at least as long as the reason behind a trip was not too dangerous or at the very least as long as he expected his son to be able to handle himself. And during those “family trips”, Vaenathis learnt that there were more ways to solve problems without resorting to violence or even subterfuge, as long as one had his wits about him and could think and even talk his way out of trouble.

All in all, life was good. Until the day Alina finally got in touch with father and son, close to almost thirty years since she was last seen by Caledrin.

To say that Vaen’s elven father was not happy would be an understatement. Even to an elf, three decades is a long time, and he was against his son having anything to do with Alina. Even the apparent urgency of the words contained in the letter, words that spoke of trouble and hard times and punishment about a murder she swore she did not commit, did not seem to sway him. Vaenathis, however, thought otherwise. He wanted to finally meet his mother, and besides, unlike his more hardened father, he was not quite so jaded as to ignore such an obvious plea for help. So, he decided to leave for Korvosa on his own and finally know the woman who had given birth to him and, what is more, see if he could help her. And although Caledrin did not approve his son’s decision, he nevertheless accepted it and even respected it as he bid him farewell.

That was close to a year ago. In the time he has been in Korvosa, he has gotten to finally know his mother. Alina, though still beautiful despite her age, is an almost broken woman, her fiery spirit dulled. After leaving her son in Caledrin’s care, she worked hard in the years to come and although it took her more time than she expected she managed to finally own the inn she used to work in as a serving maid. Unfortunately, it took considerably less for it all to turn to ash. Not long before Vaen came to Korvosa, she was accused of murdering some business rival of hers. She did not like the man, that much was true, and she had certainly argued quite passionately and quite often with him, that was also true, but murder? No. Vaen did not doubt for a minute it was a lie and soon enough he found someone, a fisherman who had supposedly witnessed the crime, and managed to get him to retract and admit that he had lied and that the one really responsible for the man’s death was a local crimelord by the name of Gaedren Lamm. Alas, he was killed before he could formally recant his testimony, which at least led to his mother’s release from custody, but with her reputation and her business ruined.

Vaen knew that this Gaedren Lamm must have in his possession evidence that could exonerate his mother, even point to him as the real culprit. All he had to do was find him and get it from him. Easier said than done. The man had not become the head of a criminal organization by being foolish. Despite his best efforts, he hit a wall time and again as he tried to find out more about his enemy, or at least enough that could help him to perhaps infiltrate the organization or deal with Lamm himself. And then one day, a solution of sorts presented itself. In the guise of Gaedren Lamm himself, contacting him and dangling in front of him enough pieces of evidence to prove his mother’s innocence, although not Lamm’s guilt. All he had to do was work for him. It was not an easy decision, to be sure, but it did become easier when the crimelord upped the ante by casually speaking of how easily accidents happen to some men… and women. With little to no choice left, Vaen acquiesced and started working for the man that almost sent Alina to the gallows, all the why looking for the opportunity to turn the tables on him and make him pay his due.

Faces Past and Present:
Alina is Vaenathis’ Varisian mother. In her fifties, she is still a beautiful woman, although her spirit has dimmed due to her hardships of late. Kind and fair, she is not one to mince words, not afraid to speak her mind the consequences be damned if it is the right thing to do. Even though she is the proprietress of her own inn, business is almost nonexistent since her being accused of murder, a murder many feel she has indeed committed and believe she is only free due to a technicality. Her reputation ruinded, she calls the inn her home, the establishment more than a little worse for wear as she lacks the money and the means to repair it.

Timmor, or Tim, or “Half Pint”, is one of Gaedren Lamm’s “Little Lamms”. The young possibly Taldan boy, an orphan like the others who share that moniker, is small for his age, but what he lacks in size, he more than makes up for in courage and recklessness. Able to think on his feet and as agile as a cat, he does have a foul enough mouth, at least taking into account that he is a kid, although he tends to invent curse words more than actually use established one. As such, sometimes it is difficult to tell if he is swearing at you or paying you a compliment. He has taken a liking to Vaen ever since the half-elf rescued him from members of a rival gang, even if his idea of a “thank you” was to call his rescuer “half-ears”, whatever that is.

Petronicus Crispin is a Chelaxian tailor maintaining a clothing store in Korvosa. An old acquaintance and perhaps even friend of Vaenathis’ father, he is an incredibly composed man to the point of aloofness, who has rarely smiled, probably out of fear that his face would crack if he did so. As such he is a great gambler and card player, which is hardly surprising, given both his extraordinary poker face and the fact that he was something of a rogue -and not the charming debonaire definition of the word- when he was younger. Nobody would ever accuse him of being the life of the party, but he is loyal to those he considers friends and always pays his debts, literal or otherwise.

Testing Rules Unchained:
The Unchained Rogue in general and his combat effectiveness and contribution (as that was one of the Core rogue’s weak points, if I am not mistaken) in particular are going to be tested. Also, due to them being part of his class features, Skill Unlocks are also going to be tested.

Other than that, Background Skills, Revised Action Economy, Automatic Bonus Progression and quite possibly Scaling Magic Items (as long as one is thrown my way by the most excellent DM Unchained :-P), as well as New Monsters, will probably be tested as well, as they are changes that affect all characters and gameplay in general.

Threeshades here, I posted interest once but then got silent. I'm still around, I'm currently downlevelling a character i would like to throw in. This is the Alias, still WIP

I do have some questions:
- Is it okay if I take two traits as normal (reactionary, armor expert), and a drawback and a trait (cruelty, axe to grind) that only apply while i'm raging?
- Using bloodrager, I would still like to use the rage rules as per unchained barbarian, if that's fine for you. Consider it testing the unchained rage on other classes.

As for which Unchained rules I would like to test with this character:
I want to pick up the combat stamina feat, i would like to try the unchained barbarian's rage with the bloodrager class, I'm going for natural attacks during my rage, and I believe that would be interesting to see in use with the new action economy
I'm also considering variant multiclassing into Sorcerer, also with abyssal bloodline for among other things extra claw use outside of rage, representing Kel-Varas learning to use small portions of his demon without giving it control.

Liberty's Edge

Variant multiclassing and actual multiclassing.

It is suggested not to mix variant and actual multiclassing, but if I wanted to do it, it is possible?

I would be interested in taking a level of fighter to get martial weapon proficiency and access to heavy armors. As my build is already burning feats learning losing a level as inquisitor would be better than waiting till level 6 for the first available feat.

Updated crunch for Lorick Dreck to fit posted format. Also fixed a few minor errors.

One thought I had that Lore actually helps a hell of a lot in fleshing out a character. Now instead of being effectively mute when anything needs to be known Lorick can be confident then he knows at least something relevant about the society he grew up in.

Background
So I remember my ma. Barely though. She was really sick and then she wasn't there anymore and I became just another crying orphan in this dammed craphole of a city. Begging and scrounging through garbage heaps to get enough scraps to not starve to death is a hell of a way to grow up. What I remember most of those days is sneaking up to the fancy areas of the city to root through their fancy garbage. Running away from the town guards clutching a half eaten turkey and managing to keep it away from the other street kids to have a grand feast in my hidey hole. That's one of the happiest memories I got.

That all changed a bit when I saw some of the other kids I ran with wearing better clothes and not looking like bags of bones anymore. Sure they probably looked just as filthy and starving as they did before to someone not living in the gutter. But I saw that they were wearing actual warm underclothes under their rags and I 'specially noticed them plumping up under there. I asked Sia about it. She's as good a friend as you can get when you're starving. I mean I stole some of her scraps sometimes and she stole mine but we both understood that it was the hunger driving us to do it and didn't hold it against each other. She said she'd followed them and there was some place where they were staying overnight and getting fed.

Me and her, we got the courage to go up to the place and knock and well that's how we both become Little Lamms working for that bastard Gaedren Lamm. Pickpockets we were. Sia was always really good at reaching in and actually stealing things. I was more of a snatch things out of marks' hands and running away as fast as possible. Different ways of doing the same thing. Got really handy when Sia got good at spotting foks who started carrying around pocket snaps on them. They're like nasty moustraps you put in your pocket and it snaps right around a pickpocket's fingers. Well spotting those told you that those marks were carrying stuff they wanted to protect. And the snaps didn't really work when I yanked the pouches right out of their belts or ripped the pocket open and grabbed the scattering coins as the snap closed on empty air. I always had a lot of wiry strength even when I was half starved.

And I wasn't half starved after I started bringing in the coin. It wasn't a good life but it was a damned sight better than the one I had before. The way I figure it we weren't really criminals we were just following the rules and the rules were set by Lamm. Maybe the rules weren't exactly fair to anyone but hell, same's true for the laws of the city.

Anyways one day a few years later I'm tryna to make my quota and I try to rip the coat off of a bent old man as he made his way through a dark alley on my bit of the city. Not proud of it; Especially now. Imagine my surprise though when I find myself flipped over upside down on my head. Old man had just grabbed my hand and... twisted and I'd gone flying. I jump to my feet and try to go after his pocket again and end up with an elbow slammed at the back of my neck and went stumbling down onto a pile of horse s!~@.

That's how the man closest to being a father that I ever had. Miyoto. I started hanging around him in my spare time and he started teaching me about monkish ways. It was amazing. Not the physical side of it, that was great sure, but the idea that I didn't need to follow Lamm's rules or the city's laws but could follow my own code. He taught me to create someting of my own and I started making stuff out of wood. Carvings and fixing leaks in my hovel and the like. I still did Lamm's work but I stopped going after the small folk who barely had anything themselves. Since it was the slum there was a hell of a lot fewer targets and I stopped making the cut that Lamm demanded.

One day I'm heading out on my rounds and a bunch of Lamm's thugs jump me. Turns out Lamm had me followed to figure out what I'd been doing in my free time and why I'd stopped being a good performer. I nearly fight them off but they overwhelm me and drag me to Lamm's hideout. There I find out that Miyoto's been grabbed as well and Lamm taunts me with my mentor in a cell. He'd been planning to feed the old man to his damned gator in front of me but when he heard how well I'd fought he decided to keep Miyoto imprisioned to ensure my loyalty and keep me as an enforcer rather than killed. Mind you he lets me know this after having me beat up for a week straight and personally cutting a long ugly scar with a jagged knife right through the center of my face.

Since then I've been doing his bidding like a good attack dog. But the rage against him is building. If it wasn't for Miyoto sitting in that cell I'd have breaking his damn neck or died trying by now.

I still follow my own code though, as much as I dare, I've been feeding bits of info to a guard Capitan stationed near the Shingles when Lamm's plans get unusually cruel, Melag Somelen. Never about anything I'm ordered to do o'course.

Sia, well she's sympathetic to what I'm going through, but she's not going to be rocking the boat when I'm helpless to do anything but follow Lamm's ugly orders. She's really the only thing keeping me sane through all this.

Life's hell but some way I'll find a way to pay some of it back to Lamm ten-fold.

NPC

Miyoto: Very old refugee from Tian Xia. Was living in a hovel in the neighbourhood that Lorrimor operated in as a Little Lamm. Took to tutoring Lorrimor as a monk after seeing Lorick's potential. Is now a prisoner in one of Lamm's dungeons to ensure Lorrmior's loyalty.

Sia: Grew up in the streets with Lorick. She's grown up to to become an expert thief and that's how he stays on Lamm's good side. She doesn't like the crime boss but she's doing as well as could be expected because of him. Is in a relationship with Lorick.

Cpt Melag Somelen: Lorick is a reliable contact for this Korosovan Guard Captain stationed near the Shingles as Lorick tries to rebel against Lamm as discreetly as possible to undermine Lamm while keeping Miyoto safe.

Yes, taking a drawback to get an extra trait is fine. Should have said that in the original post, but forgot.

EDIT: As F.Castor said below, one of the traits has to be a Campaign trait; and taking more than 1 trait from the same category isn't normally permitted (although I have been flexible on this previously).

By all means try out the unchained rage.

The rest of your concept sounds interesting. Look forward to reading your background and character stuff.

Hm. I'll have to think about that. You're right, it does suggest not to mix them but I don't see that as an absolute prohibition. It does complicate things a bit though, if you're doing both VMC and normal multiclass...

I'll get back to you.

I agree, I think the new background skills are a really clever idea - easy to implement, too!

Hmm... Technically, those are three Combat traits. And are we not supposed to pick a CotCT Campaign trait as one of our two (or three if we take a drawback) traits?

Me profile has been update sir. What more be ye needing of Shaeda at this time?

I tend to forget that you have to take different types of traits because i houserule it differently, but it's alright, the first two traits are negotiable.

I will adjust the traits accordingly. The question is whether it is okay if the drawback and third trait only apply while the character is bloodraging.

Sounds fine to me.

@Diego - I've thought about it, and the answer is YES: conventional multiclassing will be permitted. I will also permit Fractional Base Bonuses to take some of the sting out of multiclassing.

I will update the campaign tab accordingly.

Liberty's Edge

Sorry, but I have noticed another problem with the Revised Action Economy: rapid shot and many shot.
How they work with the RAE?

I will never take them, but someone could.

Rapid shot: 1 extra attack with first attack action, -2 penalty to both (but not subsequent) rolls.

Manyshot: 1 extra arrow with first attack action.

No effect on subsequent attack actions.

Liberty's Edge

The problem is that both require a full attack with the normal rules. Now you can perform them while making a single attack.

Attack, move , hide without penalty. Super sniping at work.

That's a feature, not a bug. I don't see the problem.

Remember, the bad guys can do it to you too!

Just putting all the finishing touches on my character. A couple quick questions though: Could we rent or own property as per the Guide to Korvosa? Also would Lore (Monk Weapons) be appropriate?

YES

Updated my profile to fit the template, DM Unchained. Good luck everyone!
