"Kirthfinder" Aviona PBP

Game Master Kirth Gersen

Playtest for the "Kirthfinder" rules.

Drop me a line HERE if you're interested!

"We're putting the band back together!"
"We're on a mission from God."

With the move complete and work settled down, I'm considering restarting the PBP, if there's interest. Former players will of course automatically retain their seats, if they choose to participate; you can keep your former character or start a new one if you want. If only some of the original players reply, there may be openings for some new people.

Let me know what you think! (Disregard old link above)

Jaegr is ready to continue his search for Rim (at least that is his official reason, he doesn't really want to find him) on the surface where it always feels like he will fall into the sky.

I'm in if you've got the room. I'll have to brush up on the rules a bit.

Liberty's Edge

Dot for interest because I'm a glutton for punishment. ;)

Jaegr, glad to see you back!

JAM, I'd much rather play in person -- you're welcome at the house, and I'll stock the beverages! -- but if our schedules don't work out then I'll get you into the PBP.

Liberty's Edge

Hey, Kirth, if I can squeeze my way into the game, could I get a heads up about what to expect? I like to tailor characters to the general storyline if possible.

And, of course, the usual stuff... 4d6 drop lowest I presume? Level? Etc etc. :)

Reporting for duty, sir!

Alice -- if the original people are continuing, they're a rag-tag group of misfits along the Estren frontier, getting in over their heads and somehow managing to get themselves out again. So far they've stopped a goblin attack on a town and an assassination attempt on a duke, mostly through luck and perseverence, with some LOLZ along the way. Current location is the city of Kaisersburg (the only "city" worth the name on the frontier), deciding what they want to do next.

They had just reached 4th level when we discontinued; stats are either 4d6 drop lowest or 15-point buy. If you roll lousy, you can take the elite/heroic array instead.

OK, so Jaegr, Cricket, and Kelgan are hanging in town, drinking on the duke's nickel. Caspian is no doubt off getting into mischief somewhere; Wyvurn may be keeping an eye on him, or may be off on errands of his own. And there are at least a couple of interesting-looking people in the tavern, because cliches are cliched for a reason, and "you meet interesting people in a bar" is a tried and true gimmick, especially if a bar fight breaks out...

3 people marked this as a favorite.

The whiskey always tastes better when someone else is picking up the tab!

Should we rebuild with the latest version of KF? Looking at Kelgan now to see what would change.

[On the duke's nickel, Cricket drinks heavily. He eats and drinks and eats and drinks some more. He goes from bar to bar, sniffing the air and making Perception checks 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23 looking for holy Tuelvi smoke. Then he drinks some more, and, with some of the duke's coin, heads back to the bathhouses. He returns when the party is ready to go, hungover, sheepish, and smiling.]

Liberty's Edge

Oh dear, goblins are doing it in the streets of Aviona as well? ;)

Let me think on this for a while. There are plenty of oddball character concepts I'd love to play because they're actually viable in Kirthfinder... haha.

What's the party make-up? I see a druid and two fighters so far. Missing any key roles? Hmm.

Goblins do it everywhere. That's the problem with goblins.

We had a halfling bard and Wyvurn was some kind of wizardy dude, but I forget which kind.

Caspian - halfling minstrel
Wyvurn - hobgoblin monk
Vanya (probably deceased) - human battle sorcerer
Kelsin (deceased) - wood elf druid

vs. DC 10/15/20

Cricket quickly locates "peace pipe tobacco" favored by the Turtle clan; the stuff is all over the place. Continuing his tour of town, he locates some Avionan hallulé, that the high elves prefer... and eventually a small wigwam in a back lot, out of which a Tuelvi medicine woman is drying some of the Sacred Smoke leaves.

Liberty's Edge

Hmm. Some kind of mage, then, probably. Or maybe an incarnate. Too many choices, argh! ;)

Are the most current rules the ones that were sent out a while back, that someone made a bookmarked PDF of?

Changes since the ones TOZ posted have been mostly incremental bits, I think. I'll email out a full set of the latest whenever we get started -- docx or pdf format, at your option.

Liberty's Edge

Alright, cool.

I'll think on this tonight and get something finalised tomorrow. It's 2am here though, so I should best be off for now. :)

"Hey wait up!"

I guess I will have to re-build Caspian as he got recycled....

Are we picking up at fourth level?
Are we going to do new threads for ooc and gameplay?

Caspian, yes, let's pick up at 4th. I was going to use the same old threads, unless there's a reason to start new ones?

I will have to re-build Caspian from the new rules, I think the old threads will work great!

I am excited to start singing "Moves like Jaegr" again!

OK, the response was a lot faster and more positive than I expected!

Moving onto the Discussion Thread - We can get organized there, then hop over to the game play. I'll work some stuff up over the weekend, and email out the latest rules tonight or tomorrow -- Alice, Helio, I've got your email addresses; Doodle and Freddie, I'm not sure what yours are; David, I had yours at one point but can't seem to put my finger on it.

Also, who prefers a PDF, vs. individual DOCX files?

I've been anxiously waiting for this day! ;)

Oops, read this thread after discussion. Caspian, I sent you the bookmarked version I had. I'll be waiting for the PDF from Kirth, as it's probably more recent than what I sent.

Come to think of it, the biggest changes since the older version have been in the fighter, bard, and druid. Go figure!

Hey there. Just throwing my name into the hopefuls. I have been dying to try out a bard with your system.
*edit* specifically the Skald. Warrior poets are the coolest concept ever... Just saying.
*edit 2* I may require a new copy of the PDF as well. It's been some time, and I believe some of the bard mechanics have changed.

Trogdar -- I can probably hook you up with the latest pdf, if your email's in the other thread. Might be able to wedge you into the PBP, although it looks like the original players pretty much all claimed their old spots; I'll keep you posted.

Okay, I will remain hopeful.

*goes off to write character backgrounds*

Just going to roll out my stats here for the bastard of house Talithdal. (It'll help with my write up) :)

4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 1) = 14
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 2, 1) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 6) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 3) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 2, 4) = 15
4d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 2, 2) = 11

edit: 13,10,12,13,13,9... boosh, what the heck am I going to do with that? Some kinda ninja! clearly....

4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 2) = 13

4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 4, 2) = 12

4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 3, 1) = 12

4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2, 5) = 15

4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 2) = 13

4d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 4, 3) = 10

Scores:
12, 11, 11, 13; 11, 9

The elite array is looking like an option....

If it's not too late for a scarred monk to rejoin, I am interested.

"Holy crap! I thought a stray dog was living beneath Burl's.... boy was I wrong!"

That's Kirth's call...

Yes!!!

The Exchange

Kirth if you still have my email shoot me a copy will you sir.

Awesome. Anxious to get Wyvurn under the final pdf rules.

4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 3, 2) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (4, 5, 1, 1) = 11
4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 2, 5) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (1, 5, 5, 5) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 6) = 16
4d6 ⇒ (6, 2, 5, 1) = 14

So that's 11, 10, 15, 15, 15, 13 Not bad.

I tried rolling comeliness and social status as well and ended up with scores that did not make sense for Wyvurn at all. We'll say Comeliness is a 7 after racial adjustments due to his burned face. Social Status is a crap shoot anyway since we have already done some things to affect that. Wyvurn probably started out as an outlaw.

Kirth,

I changed a little with Wyvurn based on the plans I had last time we left off.

Spoiler:
I gave him a level of worghest and plan on emulating the barghest build suggested. Instead of lycanthrope I think it works just as well with a level or two of goblin blooded sorcerer and practiced bloodline.

Interesting approach -- becoming the thing you killed! But approved.

The only thing I can't reconcile is your AC; 10 + 4 (Dex) + 2 (Dodge) + 2 (Wis) + 2 (light armor) = 20 (touch 18, flat-footed 14), not 23 (18/23).

Under Senses, you might note "see ethereal 5 ft." due to your 1 rank in Planar Sense.

I took scarred as a racial trait and goblin paragon gives me a bonus to natural armor as well. It's still wrong though. Should be 22 by my calculation.

Kirth, are you still looking for more players? I'd love the chance to play this game and saw the recruitment thread pop up here again.

Spoiler:

If you are, dice rolls
4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 6) = 20
4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 1) = 13
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 2, 2) = 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 5, 5, 3) = 18
4d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 3, 6) = 17
4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 6, 2) = 17

Sorry, DMRaven, I'm currently full-up with six. I appreciate your interest and will keep you in mind if an opening appears.

Thanks!
