Enterprising Miner, Gundren Rockseeker, seeks hardy folk to deliver supplies to Phandalin. Enquire at the Wyvern's Rest inn.

Anyone interested in playing through the DnD Starter Set adventure Lost Mines of Phandelver? This game would use Roll20 for maps so if that's a deal breaker for you, sorry : /

Character Creation:

  • Abilities: Standard Array, or 27 Point buy.
  • Races: Players handbook races are preferred but if you'd like to play something from another source then run it past me. (No Drow or Aarakocra)
  • Characters start at first level.
  • Equipment: Taken from Class and Background.
  • Feats and Varient Human are allowed
  • Spells may be chosen from the PHB, Elemental Evil players companion, or Sword Coast Adventurers Guide.
  • Unearthed Arcana character options will be allowed on a case by case basis.

House Rules: My one house rule is that Inspiration can be used after the roll but before the GM tells you if you succeed or fail.

If there is enough interest, recruitment will be open for 2 weeks.

Always interested in a 5e game....will have to think of something different that I have not played yet....maybe a sorcerer...

Dotting this. I'm considering trying out the 5e Druid or Ranger.

Where do you stand on the new UA Revised Ranger?

    Liberty's Edge

Dotting. Would love to try out a warlock.

I have the rules for the new Revised Ranger and I'd be happy to test it out. I have a Standard Hunter and Beast master ranger in the face to face campaign I run so it would be interesting to see the difference in play. So if that's what you want to create, go ahead.

Presenting Felicia Erkana, half elf warlock. Some fluff and crunch below. I'll deal with making an alias and such if selected. :)

    General story:
Father was an elven scholar, mother was a human acolyte. When she was born, her mother was too shaken by the sight of her slightly elfin features. She abandoned Felicia and her father, disappearing. Her father worked with the local academy to ensure that she was looked after while he wandered the land gathering information. It was in the halls of higher academia that she cut her teeth. Growing up around books, she had an affinity for studying, even if the knowledge didn't stick with her the way it did others. It was in the course of this study that she started to find references to the Great Old Ones that had helped to shape the world. When she began to inquire about these forces, the librarians and professors largely hushed her, except for Cervantes. He saw that she wouldn't take no for an answer. He told her fantastical stories about the powers that those eldritch forces could offer someone. It didn't take much to convince her that the answers and names of the Great Old Ones could fill her mind if she studied the night skies.

For years she charted the movements of stars and planets across the cosmos. In studying that void she found the consciousness of one of those Great Old Ones. Elated, she sought to draw power from the teeming font she had discovered. To her giddy delight, she found that the power flowed through her with ease.

Now she finds herself wandering the world, seeking to find a closer connection with her patron.

No worries. It also seems to have missed your Armor, Weapon and Tool Proficiencies (or at least hasn't listed them.)

    Liberty's Edge

Still thinking a bit. I'm leaning towards Eldritch Blast and Poison Spray or Witch Bolt for cantrips. Hex and dissonant whispers for level 1.

    Liberty's Edge

Hmmm..as we seem to be piling up casters, I think I will switch to a more martial character...perhaps a paladin?

    Liberty's Edge

@Daniel Stewart - If you'd prefer the caster, I have no qualms about going more physical. Dragonborn fighter or Wood Elf Monk. I've got a whole journal of scratched up notes. :)

Bond: An injury to the unspoiled wilderness of my home is an injury to me.

Flaw: I am slow to trust members of other races, tribes, and societies.

@Daniel Stewart: Warlocks and Sorcerers are different enough that I don't think it would break the party to have both. Paladins are cool too and by the looks of TPJ's ranger we may still be lacking a front line fighter.

@James Martin: Halfling Rogue is what I'd like to play next! Love Rothwillian's flaw :) Looks good.

@Eilren Eidren I use Roll20 for my Homebrew Dnd table top game as well, not having to pause to draw maps all the time and the added bonus of the initiative tracker and tracking monster HP with the tokens is great. Also when a friend moved to the UK he was able to keep playing. Character looks good. Possibly a little to min/maxed for my tastes with the two 8s. Have you picked the Criminal Background?

@TPJ: Ràghnall looks good. Are you planning to go Beast Conclave at level three?

@Bimpnottin Daergel: What alignment is Felicia, what are her traits, ideals, bonds and flaws.

@Scranford: What are Orthello's traits, ideals, bonds and flaws.

    Submitted Characters:

  • Felicia Erkana, half elf, sage, Warlock (-Bimpnottin Daergel)
  • Orthello, wood elf, outlander (exile) Druid (-Scranford)
  • Rothwillian Kettlespur, Halfling, criminal, Rogue (-James Martin)
  • Eilren Eiden, wood elf, criminal?, Warlock (-Niyaga)
  • Ràghnall MacGuaire, Human (V), outlander, Ranger (UA) (-TPJ)

  • This is Daniel Stewart and Arvhil is my submission. I will flesh out his character sheet more, but just wanted to get my hat in the ring!

    GM Kip said wrote:

Thanks GM Kip. Yeah I had chosen the Criminal Background- i'll add it to the alias

The two 8's weren't intended as min/maxing rather flavour. I've had a lot of fun creating Ren and he's meant to be an extreme creature- perceptive and charismatic but not too smart... and sensitive about it... If anything I'd raise his STR as he's quite a physical elf

I've also been toying with ideas for a Cleric if it turns out the party needs a healer

    Liberty's Edge

    D'oh.

Alignment: was debating between lawful neutral and chaotic neutral. I think she may have started lawful, adhering to the rigor of academia. But after talking with Cervantes and tapping into the Old One's power, she fell much further into chaos. Anything to enhance that connection.

Additionally, I haven't named a specific Great Old One because I don't think Felicia knows which it is yet. She's barely scratched the surface. All she knows is that there is power there.

    Sage (Astronomer)
    Traits
I've read every book in the world's greatest libraries - or I like to boast that I have.

There's nothing I like more than a good mystery.

    Ideal
Nothing should fetter the infinite possibility inherent in all existence.

    Bond
My life's work is a series of tomes related to a specific field of lore.

    Flaw
I am easily distracted by the promise of information.

Hey Bimpnottin it might be cool to have two Warlocks in a party 'Warlocks in Arms'?

Felicia and Eilren are quite different with very different backgrounds. Sage and simpleton? I reckon there may be some good roleplaying there. What might our DM think about two Warlocks?

Anyhow I'm also working on a Human Life Cleric Lawful (not boring just law abiding!) Crusader type if more submissions are warranted

    Liberty's Edge

Eilren, that sounds like it could be grand fun. It would be great to see how they reacted to one another when they realize they have similar powers but from very different sources.

My plan is to take Felicia Tome pact (as opposed to chain or blade), so there'd be plenty of potential for both friction and torturous destruction of our enemies. :) I can just see a pair of eldritch blasts leveling someone.

@GM Kip I'm leaving the decision open right now, but Beast Conclave does look like it might be more fun than the Hunter Conclave.

It does have great potential- keeping with my scout/infiltrator concept I plan to go with the Chain Pact so I can recon with the familiar... then get into position to crossfire Eldritch Blast

1 person marked this as a favorite.

    Background:
Rothwillian doesn't think of himself as a crook. He thinks of himself as a businessman who sometimes steps outside the law to offer his clients the solution to life's ills. He acts as a middleman, introducing those who need pesky problems eliminated with discreet folks who enjoy eliminating pests. And in return, he gets a small percentage of the fee. It's not a glamorous life; it's not a wealthy life, but it IS a fulfilling one.

Take that unfortunate issue with the landlord and the poor tenant who fell behind on her rent. Rothwillian introduced her to a lovely man who specialized in gentle persuasion of the physical variety. For a small fee, much less than she owed on back-rents, the man met with the landlord and described the situation and the many ways it could be resolved. Unfortunately, the landlord was clumsy and fell out of his office window to his demise. Fortunately for everyone, the landlord's widow was MUCH more reasonable on the question of payments and everyone walked away happy. Rothwillian was proud of that outcome and happily pocketed his own modest fee, with clean hands and a clear conscience.

Of course, it's not always about persuasion. Some times a soul gets a hankering for a work of art that is currently being unappreciated by its current possessor. In this case Rothwillian is not above a little second story night time visiting to procure rare objets d'art.

For Rothwillian, it's about the satisfaction of a job well done.

    Liberty's Edge

So, you lack healing -and- a front line fighter you say???? ;-)

    How about a WarCleric?? =)

    Character submission from Atlas2112! =D

You're in danger of being typecast there Atlas2112 =o)

@Daniel Stewart: Arvhil looks good. Looking forward to seeing him fleshed out.

@Eilren Eiden/Bimpnottin: Could be some interesting RP to have two different Warlocks in the party, with different spell selection they could complement each other. I'd consider it as a sixth PC maybe.

@Eilren Eiden: If you'd like to make your cleric, go ahead.

@TPJ: Either is fine, I just was reading through the UA ranger and noticed they didn't change any of the hunter options.

@Gauis: War cleric is great. Your backstory is intriguing but your gear and your strength bonus are a little off.

Hi again GM Kip. Here is Niyaga's Life Cleric submission

I made a simple custom background- Crusader- to take into account a holy quest by mixing hermit, acolyte and homebrew as per the PHB. Cleric background material in 5e is generic and a bit dull in my opinion and I wanted a holy traveller/warrior/protector type trained for a specific task

    Custom Background- Crusader:

    (Based loosely on Hermit)
You lived an aesthetic life bound to a religious organisation. Your mentors taught and trained you for one purpose- to retrieve a long lost relic, to defeat a great evil or to restore the order to its former glory. You have travelled the lands in search of your order's destiny.
    Skill Proficiencies: Investigation, Perception
    Languages: Two of your choice
Equipment: An ancient parchment with an obscure map and script pertaining to your crusade, a scroll case stuffed full of prophecies and notes from your travels, a set of traveller’s clothes, a winter blanket and a belt pouch containing 10gp

Life of Seclusion:I have travelled the lands in search of Espiridon's Star, a relic of great significance to my order.

Feature: Shelter of the Faithful (see Acolyte)

Personality: Zen- I remain calm, in touch with my emotions and aware of my surroundings so that I may make good decisions

Ideal: Friendship, dedication and sacrifice are ideals to aspire to

Bond: I must protect the other members of my order and the good peoples of the world

Flaw: I must find Espiridon's Star and will abandon other quests if I find a new lead

@Iago Looks good, I like your custom background.
