Fair point, a wand it is.

So, barring anything unfortunate happening, we should be able to get to the wall. But, some stealth would probably be wise. I've got daze, ghost sound, and sleep, which can all aid in getting there, but aren't stealth enhancers in any way. What do others have?

Hopefully OGGM wasn't exaggerating when he said that they don't pay any attention to the hillside.

What about getting over the wall? The centipede pit was problematic for some of us. Climber's kit? Potions of monkey fish? Seven potions are 350 gp, but we'll get that discount from Bokken.

<ahem> I happen to be a cleric.

And Dregan doesn't have to say anything. Remember the catcalls and jeers from the walls? Someone saw you! The aspiring playwright perhaps?

Was hoping someone would catch the connection to Talia's background!

One scroll of spider climb and a knotted rope should do the trick.

On a cloudy night...

That's a point - with his darkvision, Kaalib could rely on night time to put a rope there, hidden against the wood (or even a series of ropes, one for each of us); with the benefit of the Hide from Undead spell (clerical or wandly) we could then make a dawn assault up the hill they aren't watching and get over the wall before they even notice.

Thoughts?

If Naralesh cast invisibility on me, I'd have a +30 to my stealth score. Knotted ropes with a wall are DC 0 for climb checks.

Good thinking! And, even without invisibility, all the bandits we've encountered so far have been humans, so I'd think Kaalib will have a distinct advantage in the dark.

Also, we can bring Asha? Sweet! If she's second level, that should about cover everyone (2 1st level spells and probably 1 bonus spell, each of which cover 2 people a casting). If she's been leveling like us and is third level, then we can get everyone (3 1st level spells including the bonus for wisdom, covering 3 people each casting). Otherwise, we may need to buy a potion of hide undead (50 gp).

Thoughts on what other gear we'll need? CLW potions? Splash weapons for those of us without AoE?

EDIT: I've messaged OGGM about this, but I should probably say for the planning purposes that I'll be out of the country at the end of next week and thus not in a position to post, so Talia may be in the background for much of the fight. It is a little metagamey, but she could pass of the CLW wand to Magna or Dregan, or Asha if she goes over the wall with us. Edric I suppose can't use it.

Not sure about infiltration, unless it's just to get the gate open and then attack. Anything longer-term relies on 2 Paladins being able to lie consistently for a period of time. What happens if we see the bandits torturing a helpless prisoner? Or if they invite us to join in?

I'd prefer to use Dregan's idea and go over the wall at night with Hide Undead masking us, myself. We'll better have the surprise and catch a lot of folks asleep. If / when the alarm gets raised, we'll still have some time and they'll be disorganized. And if we get lucky, we could do substantial damage, maybe even take out the Stag Lord, before there's any sizable resistance put forth.

Front gate infiltration:

Pros:
- we know the password
- can walk up and through the defenses

Cons:
- bad guys will know we are there
- maybe Magna, Talia, Dregan or Naralesh will be remembered from the fight at the first bandit camp. Maybe Talia or Dregan is recognized from the scouting attempt at the fort more recently.
- maybe the password has changed (it has been about a month in gametime)

Back door infiltration:

Pros:
- bad guys don't watch that approach
- if we go at night, most bad guys are asleep

Cons:
- maybe zombies don't get affected by hide undead?

If we get the Hide Undead spell (with Asha or scrolls) seems like a good idea.

Magna has darkvision, so she doesn't need light to do it.

Technically speaking, no one needs Darkvision to assault the fort. The worst you would be in is Low Light with the stars out. In reality, there are varying levels of Low Light at night outdoors depending on the phase of the moon, cloud cover etc. If you note the calendar, it does show phases of the moon...very helpful in this situation.

Quest rewards:

For the fangberries: 25% discount on potions from Bokken
For 'solving' the kobold problem: 800 gp from Rostov
For the 2 tatzlwurm heads: 1200 gp from Oleg
For Tuskgutter's head: MW longbow and 6 +1 animal bane arrows

That leaves the ring and Falgrim Sneed as the last quests in the area.

On which point: Talia, is there a way you could indicate on our map where the rivers are crossable? There's the ford where we killed the Tatzlwyrms, for example, and the shallows we found later. We're going to want to make sure those places are defended once we have our kingdom.

Good stuff.

So, does anyone have plans for the week? Or are we just hand-waving it?

In any event, here is where I think we were on the plan of attack:

1) Asha casts Hide From Undead on everyone.

2) Naralesh casts Invisibility on Kaalib

3) Kaalib sneaks up and ties knotted ropes on the rear wall of the fort.

4) Everyone climbs up knotted ropes.

5) Assault fort under cover of night, kill Stag Lord and assorted bandits, dispose of zombies.

6) Profit!

Any embellishments gladly entertained.

Spend the money, update your sheets. You won't make 4th before this fight, so prepare accordingly.

When you are ready, let me know by setting out. Then describe the plan and I will get this going. I don't suppose I need to tell you that this is the last part of the first book!

I should add that I have built Asha and Kesten in Herolab, but I will move them to here when I figure out how!

Awesome!

To build off of the plan everyone has put forward so far, I'd like to suggest this plan of action:

1. Asha casts hide undead, we all mosey up to the wall under cover of darkness.

2. Kaalib quaffs a potion of Monkey Fish, climbs the wall and then secures and drops off a knotted rope.

3. Order up the rope: Magna/Edrick (ranged blocker in case Kaalib is seen), then Dregan (can provide ranged cover if we're seen, and maybe take out bad guys before they get to us; Nara can provide ranged cover from the ground), then the other of Mags/Edrick, then Vosil (can put that 15' reach to use), then Nara, then Talia (alternatively, since I'll probably be out of town when the assault begins, Talia can stay behind to cover you all if you have to retreat, if OGGM doesn't want to bot her). Asha goes up if OGGM wants her involved. If Talia stays behind, she'll be sure to hand off the clw wand to Dregan or Magna.

4. Once at the top of the wall, try to take out as many bandits without raising the alarm as possible. Talia has sleep, Dregan/Nara/Edrick with coordinated ranged attacks (3 arrows should be enough to put any down). Perhaps even if they are close enough, bandits can be bull-rushed off the wall.

5. If we are successful at taking out the guard without raising the alarm, try and guess where the Stag Lord is and sneak in and wack him first, then offer others surrender or death, individually if possible.

1-5a. If at some point we're discovered, shock and awe. Ranged fire, summons, grease spells, alchemist's fire, the whole shabang - especially when the Stag Lord makes her/himself known.

Edric can likely go head-to-head with anyone the bandits have as long as he can land a Smite on them, if Magna backs him up with Weals Champion and they can get a good defensive position then the entire camp could probably break on them.

On the other hand killing the Stag Lord in his bed will be a good idea if we get the chance....

So Talia was out, Vosil isn't 'feeling connected', and Dregan just had his first child. Pretty busy, if you ask me. Should we wait a bit? We can certainly RP through the plan until we have everyone. Is everyone in agreement with how it is laid out by Talia above?
