I used your climb roll in place of your acrobatics roll when you changed your action to using the ladder, i did forget to roll the falling damage though. Would you like to roll acrobatics now? Due to the shape of the walls and towers there is no way to charge this turn even if you are on your feet, you are currently 35ft away from the bandit leader and slightly around a corner, with a rogue and a dog mounted oracle between you and him.
Egan, you have enough movement to just catch up with the bandit leader, do you want to be adjacent to him or just near to him?

Right next to him with Sparky snarling. The dog hits much better that I and can trip.

DM_Ego |

Now combats over you can awaken whenever you feel like it Domi, i'd wait until a suitably dramatic moment in the conversation when everyone was wondering if maybe they should have sent a healer over to their potentially dying comrade slightly faster than they did but its up to you mate. Just remember your still on -1 hp so no strenuous activity!

Domitian |

I was at -7 with the 2 points of healing I put myself at -5. Gotta figure out of I can even use my healing Hex on myself. Longest I'he ever been put down for...

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

On a related note to the game and its pace, I wonder if it would work, in a PBP in general, to have an agreed to time of day where everyone was available for even 30 minutes where we could all be prepared and advance the game a little faster? This would be in addition to the regular play. If this could be done even three times a week we could likely double our progress. I know its not a race, but I enjoy the game and want to advance past this intro stuff and first level.
Thoughts?

DM_Ego |

Depending on what you do next Egan you could be straight into another even bigger combat or have three or four roleplay encounters which you could wizz through quite quickly with a few people posting. I'd expect you to hit level 2 after exploring a few hexes since you will get xp not only for the encounters amd quests but for the amount of exploration you do.

Sergei Malov |

My schedule varies enough it's hard to commit to a specific time.
And as a head's up, I'm going to be mostly (or entirely) out of touch next week. Camping out, so little to no internet access. I'll post if I can, but otherwise, do with Sergei as you need to. Starting Saturday morning, most likely.

DM_Ego |

So...
A full midweek day with out single post is a little worrying, are we all having fun or do we want to stop playing?
I'm a little worried that perhaps my gming style does not carry over to pbp well but i would rather the players drive the story, especially in a game as player driven as kingmaker, and leave my role as more reactionary. If people don't want to take the lead i can understand that but eventually someone needs to be "king" so even at this early stage i'd expect to see the prospective rulers taking a guiding role.
What changes do i need to make to pick up the post count and ensure everyone is having fun? What has gone wrong?

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

I stand ready to post/play, but feel like I need to give the others a chance to play some. Specifically I am waiting for Alagor to chime in, because without him Egan might do something like burn the bandit leader in front of the other captives. >:)

Sergei Malov |

I was staying out of the actual interrogation for now, due to my current lack of intimidate.
I would object to burning the leader though. At least fatally. He's the one likely to know the most.
If you have to burn someone, burn one of the flunkies. Question them first though.

DM_Ego |

I think Alagor is on a business trip at the moment, perhaps make a move and see if anyone reacts to it. Like Sergei said, if you go to burn someone i suspect someone would stop you.
Alagor is currently resting after combat, i don't want to rush people but i like to see a little action. Even if there are some mistakes made.

Domitian |

Andrej travels for business alot and I have been busy at work. The hot weather here is killing me too. I was going to wait to see what happens before coming out of my sulking place lol. Im wreslting with being a good character and how he would act toward someone who almost killed him minutes before. Suggestilns kn my dillema? Also please forgive my dreadful auto correct.

Andrej 'Catfoot' |

Domitian is right on all counts here...
I'm holding meetings from a hotel room in Sapporo.
Generally I've made a post a day or more if you count discussion AND Play forums.
I am liking the game.
PBP takes some getting used to - both for players AND the GM.
I play in a few games and the games that the GM prods a bit AND posts regularly on not only survive but thrive. Its a matter of giving flavour *which you do* and then when things get a bit stuck, moving the agenda along a bit.
In PbP players may get confused and wait on someone else to do something... and if ALL the players are confused, it gets bogged.
I think for my part, I am confused by what to do - we have a charter but on the other hand we're being told that by River kingdom law we're being dicks for hanging bandits.
That said? Lets be dicks. Lets be the differentiator - its a lawless region. Lets bring some law. If the other residents don't like it? Lets import some new ones later.

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

Egan doesn't mind hanging, or preferably burning, a few bandits. But if some of these men are bandits due to lack of other opportunity, and we can provide other opportunity, then they may be much more valuable to us alive than dead.
I guess no one can detect evil can they?

DM_Ego |

Its ment to be a bit of a difficult choice to follow the charter rigidly or follow the law of the land. It sets the pace for your future rulership as well and can have far reaching concequences which you just cannot grasp at this stage in the game.
Anything you decide to do is fine, and i can see that a few of you have a "hang em and let aroden sort em out" attitude, which is great as long as your going to stick to your guns when the going gets tough. Same with the mercy alternative, you'll need to stand by your decicion because no matter what you do someome will call you a brute or someone will call you a wimp, welcome to politics!
Amen on the heat, yesterday was a nightmare since my desk is directly under a skylight, thankfully its raining again today! My gf would kill me if she knew i said that, bloody sun worshippers.

Domitian |

Lol its going to be near 100 on the heat index here again. High 90 degrees and humid by 10am.
As far as the bandits go, Dom has no particular interest in "law" overall. But banditry often includes or leads to rape, murder (which was attempted on us and nearly successful with me lol) and standard pillaging and leaving people to fend for themselves with nothing. It should not be tolerated in an up and coming kingdom. To me it's the first building blocks to for the foundation. We obviously don't want a lawless kingdom as that is what it is now. The current laws of the land are null and void because where we tread is no longer the stolen lands. They are ours or at least Brevoy's and THAT is not a lawless country. Brevoy says death by sword or rope for banditry and as representatives (voluntarily) of said country it is our obligation to enforce those laws. IMHO

Andrej 'Catfoot' |

wow - well said.
Still, am up for a 'pardon' if this 'schmuck' plays straight. We must temporarily imprision him until the main bandits are taken care of...
He's an idea - maybe he can earn his reprieve and join us. Till now he's only been good at banditry etc but if he plays straight and we and he can work together and build trust, maybe (odds are damn small) we can use him to build our new kingdom.

Domitian |

If someone shot me with an arrow out of anger IRL I would hate them for life, now if they brought me as close to death as Happs did I would hate him for life and never ever be willing to suffer his company if not flat out plot and execute his death. Dom can't work with this guy, I don't see how he could just say "oh yeah what a great idea!" I think he would personally like to shew the horse out from under him when he swings.

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

Hot here in Alabama too, but its a little more to be expected here. I believe we hit 90 yesterday and it will be hotter today. Where are you at Dom?
Egan was the first to vote for 'hang um all' but since then he has had a change of heart. Some of these men will be knowledgeable and resourceful. We will need men like that in the kingdom. Terrible loss to hang them =- nothing gained. The trick is to know which we can trust.
I think someone already pointed this out, but if we are known to hang them, then all bandits fight to the death. If we are known as a way out of banditry and we treat our prisoners well, and even sometimes hire them, then maybe the ones we want will start surrendering to us before a fight.
Here is my current take on it. We try to turn them as a general rule. Those that betray us we hang high as an example. To me it will be worth having to fight a few of them twice to pick up some good men. Thoughts?

Domitian |

So we will be known as men who hire thugs and criminals and will be seen as the same by regular everyday folks. "Hi I robbed you last month, now I'm here to collect your taxes." That will go over well I'm sure lol
I'm from MA BTW

Andrej 'Catfoot' |

Its not uncommon as the 'rebels' won they became the authority. One mans rebel is anothers freedom fighter and so on.
In the Robin Hood nicer endings (of which there are many) the Bandit is made a member of the court/restored to nobility and was likely put in charge of the same men at arms his guys were shooting at last month.
Banditry is bad here but its not a capital crime (until we make it one) so the local inhabitants will dislike it but likely not hate it. In any case we are likely gonna import new residents too. Its a positive message - start a new life and put your old sins behind you.
Not saying you are wrong Dom but lets see a) where the questioning leads us and b) how flexible the bandit is willing to be and c) if he proves trust worthy.

Domitian |

I feel like Dom, bias included would want criminals killed for preying on good hard working people. Also as I stated earlier, since we represent Brevoy and the only authority we have is the charter that we threw in their face, says we should kill bandits means that banditry is already a capital crime.

![]() |
Not saying Dom is wrong - its a great RP opp for all of us... we need to confront this issue and work out where the line is.
it can be formalised and changed later as we write actual laws but for the moment its what we want it to be.
Group think isn't happening - which is GOOD.
So its up to us all to debate it and get it together.

Egan 'Little Fire' Thermogauge |

And we are missing Alagor's voice, who if I recall was opposed to outright hanging, but I'll let him speak for himself. Egan has no moral objections to executions and knows that might be the safe course as far as danger to him person goes, at least for the short run. But he sees it as a terrible waste of resources.

Domitian |

@ Egan That doesnt work for me cuz you and Andrej are the people I would recommend lol and the dude that was playing Sohali. I liked him too :)
