"Oh oh sheltered by the Earth
Here record last words that the prophet has bled
An Æther storm soon gathers here
Listen to the wise man!"

-Excerpt from A Descent into Madness: the collected ravings of Zuddiger, noted River Kingdoms historian (fragmentary)

One month after posting my initial Teaser Thread, Recruitment for my Kingmaker: Legacies campaign is finally live! Feedback for the Teasers has been overwhelmingly positive and I’m incredibly excited to see what characters people have come up with.

For those reading about Kingmaker: Legacies for the first time, this campaign will take the strong exploration and kingdom building elements of the classic Kingmaker Adventure Path, build upon a number of GM innovations from nearly a half decade, and add my own spin to many characters and events from the original story. Kingmaker: Legacies is a campaign full of plot arcs and prophesy, allies that you’ll love and villains that you’ll love to hate. This campaign will still use the same 3’x12’ hex map of the Stolen Lands and roughly follow the original plot of the AP, but the story line will have several significant departures from the modules in an attempt to create a more coherent and immersive narrative.

Further Campaign Specific details from my Teasers can be found on the Campaign Page. I’ll try to add more as I have the time!

Do you feel like you have what it takes to tame an uncharted wilderness, thwart centuries old plots, and forge a Legacy that will last through the ages? I’m looking for a team of 5-6 epic and interesting characters to share this adventure with!

For one week, from now until Tuesday the 8th at Midnight CST, I will be accepting Character Submissions for the campaign. To be considered, applicants must make a post in this thread with the Alias(es) they wish to submit for the Campaign; a submission made in the previous Teaser thread will not be sufficient.

There is also a Submission Roster that will be used to help manage the submissions. Currently it will be editable to reduce the overhead on my part, but I may switch it over to Read-Only if we encounter any issues.

Finally, make sure to check out my Alias Profile. It has important details including posting frequency, writing style, and tagline format that I’ll expect people to adhere to. I’m also starting a FAQ there that I can update throughout the week. In the meantime, don’t hesitate to ask questions that aren’t already covered in the Character Creation!

Officially expressing my interest. I still have work to do on my character before I have a profile up and running.

Caroline Callingwood, Cleric of Erastil.

First! *chuckles*

Iavas Gwilwileth, the Autumn Butterfly.

Starting out as cleric of Desna, plan is rogue with cleric dip.

You know, I spent all of last month thinking about what kind of character I'd be submitting to this, and here I am on day one of submission week and all I have is a concept, a name and a vague esquisse of a backstory. I'm about to get trounced.

In any case, here's Emil Mordrane, Cavalier, grandson of a Galtan nobleman, son of a Gray Gardener, and looking to set an example; far from Andoran's political machinations and away from Galt's bloodthirsty blades.

I'm thinking of rolling a Bard; how would you rule the Background Skills work with Versatile Performance? I don't want to give the impression that I'm using the rule to cheese my Perform ranks so I'd like your advice on that before putting together a character.

Sovereign Court

Inquisitor of Milani reporting in for wilderness exploration duty.

When do you plan to start gameplay? I really like how you are going about this and I'd love to be a part of it, but December is a busy time between finals and Christmas. I would still manage to post of course, but perhaps not as optimally as I would like if I had more time. Whether gameplay starts in December or not I will likely still submit a character as I believe this game is shaping up too well to pass up.

My initial idea is for a Skald btw. One of my favorite classes that I have never gotten to play and this campaign feels so right for it.

This is finally up and I just realized I want to write my backstory from scratch. I also am not entirely sure what concept I want to go with...

How do you feel about slightly reflavoring things, for example I'm conside the seeker oracle archtype, but my character will obviously head into the stolen lands, not be a pathfinder?

Going for a Cleric of Cayden Cailean. Will be up soon.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Thiss iss Thesssk Cleric of the Rillsong Jalai-jatali and I wissh to explore the Sstolen landss for Brevoy.

2nd app for Tharasiph.

Roles: Councilor, High Priest, Viceroy.

Gird Medvyed: General, Royal Enforcer and Warden.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Kerri Corynian, Halfling Sorcereress of the Linnorm bloodline, checking in and throwing her small hat into the ring.

Krane, a Kellid Alchemist from Numera. He grew up in a small tribe who lived near some alien ruins and started early to show a strong curiosity about the mysterious fluids which escaped from the wreckage. He learnt alchemy through empiricism. Tired of the Technic League's monopoly on magic and science in his own country, and the violent behavior of his fellow barbarians, he decided it was time from him to search a new home, in a land of oppotunity. The Stolen Lands seems to be the perfect place to do so.

OR

Helga Riverborn, a Witch who succed to live and grow up in the wilderness by herself. A mysterious pact with a powerful and strange entity gave her the power to do so. She's a fierce adept of Gozreh and Hanspu. When she heard that some adventurers wanted to colonize the Stolen Lands she decided that it was her duty to help. As a way to protect the people from the unknown dangers of the area and to be sure that the land and the wilderness is respected. It could also be a great opportunity for her to become familiar with the civilization.

I'm really interested by this campaign. It could be my first Pbp. I'm french, so I sometimes do mistake in english. Play a rural character or someone who is not used to speak in common or to other people is a good way to compensate for my errors.

Initial caveat: I'm currently playing in one Kingmaker game, but it's moving at a very slow pace, which prompted me to try for another group. I am also running a KM campaign, which is just getting started.

I've put together Celemar Thaliodel, an elf warrior in the classic tradition of fantasy gaming. By this I mean that the character is built with the intent of being a fighter/wizard and building into that dual role in much the same way that elves in the early days of the hobby functioned. The character is also my stab at looking at one of the foibles of Kingmaker, which is that the core campaign is extremely humanocentric. This character would be motivated to work with humans as "good neighbors" while establishing a new outpost for elvenkind in the Greenbelt.

Chaotic Good Elf Fighter - Front-line combatant, later magical support - Potential roles include Ruler (of a separate elven settlement, possibly as a Viceroy), Magister, General.

This character's story goals are to portray an elf in the vein of the experienced figure from an ancient, haughty culture that looks upon humans and their neighbors as child races in need of guidance, capable of great things but also at risk of falling to the dangers of temptations in dark magic or lust for power. The character would have a tendency to view the party as "exceptional" samples of their kind, while taking a long view of how kingdom-building in the Stolen Lands will affect the political landscape over the course of centuries.

Players from the Cult of Optimization would look at this character and wince, because it's not built in the typical optimization route used by most eldritch knight builds -- the game mechanical development of this character is built to use Still Spells to cast utility magic and self-enhancing spells, while doing front-line combat. This is, of course, weak from an action economy standpoint, as it means spending precious rounds casting enhancement spells on oneself instead of getting them from the party's support casters while dealing with the front lines, but I see this as a challenge in having the character switch mindsets between fighting and magic, always looking for just the right pressure to apply to a given problem in the moment. Additionally, if the group has another arcane caster, this character's downtime can aid in resources by penning low-level utility scrolls for later use (spells like detect secret doors or erase, things that are sometimes useful but usually not worth preparing in a spell slot or picking on the known list of a spontaneous caster).

Naturally, this is also a character whose development might change radically over the course of the campaign, based on the pressures of where the story takes the character.

One last note: I'd like to vouch for Kerri Corinyan, above, as an active, frequent, and team-oriented poster. While I didn't pick her character for the KM game that I ran, she showed all the right gumption and she's been a good participant in a different (Runelords) game that we are both in, and if it were to come down to a choice between me or her, I'd recommend that you give her a much-deserved shot at Kingmaker.

I was also briefly in a game that Thessk was previously in. I suspect that we both left that game for similar reasons (people pretty much abandoned that game in droves.) He was a solid contributor.

Dotting for interest.

I’ve added the line for my application at the Submission Roster, but I still need to edit the character sheet, I reckon the creation rules are in the teaser thread, right?
The background is mostly done. I might have to modify some small’s things, depending on your requirements on the teaser thread, which I still need to read.

Looking forward to it.

Hello and Giuseppe Capriati here. This is my submission for your consideration. Some quick notes regarding my submission.

Notes:

  • I’m not a native speaker. Even though I’m an official Pathfinder RPG translator for my country (Italy) and I consider my English level high enough, English is not my mother tongue. I apologize in advance for any linguistic error my submission could contain. I’m also sorry if in my writing I can’t reach the same linguistic virtuosity I have in my native language, but I tried my best to write as good as possible.

  • About Vasilyan’s equipment: I wasn’t able to purchase all the items I needed with “only” 150 gp, but I plan to purchase objects in-game if I get selected. For instance, Vasilyan needs a horse to carry things such as his bedroll, his rope, and so on.

  • About Vasilyan’s movement rate: Vasilyan will purchase a leather armor and wear it during exploration as soon as he earns enough money. As a result, his actual movement rate would be 30 ft./round during exploration times.

  • About Vasilyan’s Background Skills: Unfortunately, I would have needed at least one more background skill to give Vasilyan all the skills I think he should have. My choice fell upon Knowledge (nobility) and Handle Animal to best reflect Vasilyan’s background: if he didn’t had those skills from the beginning, it would have been difficult to justify how he acquires them. But if I get selected, as soon as he reaches the 2nd level, Vasilyan would take at least 1 rank in Craft (bows), to reflect his ability to shape wood, create bows and arrows. For an Erastilian character, practicing a manual labor is crucial, and I plan to reflect this aspect as soon as Vasilyan begins leveling up.

  • About Jod Kavken’s inclusion in Vasilyan’s Background: I decided to let a young Jod Kavken appear in my background. This shouldn’t impact anything as far as I know, but if it does just let me know and I’ll substitute him with a generic Erastil’s priest. I think that having Father Jod in Vasilyan’s background could generate some great RP scenes, and this was the reason why I chose to include him.

  • About Vasilyan’s Background: I know some could deem Vasilyan’s story “too long”. For this reason, I've included a “short version” of Vasilyan’s background in my submission. I’m sorry if my work is too long or detailed, but I loved so much creating this character that I tried as hard as I could to get the best out of me and my character.

  • Posting sample: Vasilyan's background includes several roleplaying interlude that could serve as posting samples. Otherwise, you can check this or this.

  • About me: I’m relatively new to the PbP world, but I’m having a really good time so far. I'm currently running a Price of Immortality campaign here on the boards and play in a Second Darkness game, always here. I can easily commit to 1 post/day, and probably a lot more, as my posting rate demonstrates.

I believe Vasilyan is well suited for this AP as he is, but to make sure of it I tried to answer a few question raised by DM Jesse Heinig in a past Kingmaker recruitment.

Kingdom Building Questions and Answers:

"Why should the swordlords trust you with this important job?"

Because Vasilyan has a noble lineage accounting for him, and in case of failure or insubordination his family would gain the enmity of Restov, something it couldn’t really afford, especially due to the constant demand for fruits and vegetables coming from the south. Furthermore, because Vasilyan is a skilled archer and he’s guided by a strong faith in Erastil which guarantees for his virtuous and impeccable conduct. Moreover, because Vasilyan knows how to survive in the wildlands and is particularly familiar with fey creatures, who are rumored to inhabit the Green Belt. Finally, because Vasilyan already has had experiences both with bandits and guiding a community, as his experiences in the Narlmarches and Velinstadt demonstrate.

"How do you plan to set up a new nation and establish the trust and loyalty of the people?"

Vasilyan plans to establish a new nation starting from a fundamental and easy-to-share concept drawn for his faith: a nascent community must be in harmony with the landscape surrounding it, using it without depleting it. Therefore, first of all Vasilyan plans to eradicate all the potential threats preventing the birth of a new nation in the Stolen Lands: principally bandits, but also the most dangerous monsters inhabiting the wilds. After assuring that a community can be established without its inhabitants constantly facing dangers and fearing for their own lives, Vasilyan plans to use the Stolen Lands exploration to manage in the best way possible the resources offered by the lands, trying at the same time to maintain an essential harmony with the environment, without overexploiting its natural resources: this implies building infrastructures such as bridges and roads, but also using mineral deposits, waterways, lumber sources and every other resource the land offers.

Once these steps are made, it’s important to take care in every detail of the relationships with surrounding beings, starting from the creatures inhabiting the Stolen Lands (including fey creatures, with whom would be best to maintain collaborative relationships) and coming to interweave a solid network of alliances with surrounding kingdoms and communities so as to ensure that the new nation can count on a stronger protection than those offered by its armies only.

To earn people’s trust and loyalty, Vasilyan plans to show himself as a model to emulate, in order to drive the people to respect him for what he embodies. Of course, Vasilyan is also an expert politician and therefore he doesn’t undervalue the usefulness of a targeted propaganda in order to obtain trust and loyalty from the people. To all of this must contribute an easy-to-share legislative system: the new nation’s people should share the laws apart from respect it. Vasilyan plans to earn the trust of the most prominent groups and personalities of the nation to ensure more quickly the trust and loyalty of all the people, and aims to realize this goal not only letting people admire him for his deeds and virtues, but also trying to find diplomatic compromises, even with the promise of lands or titles, with the most influent people of the new nation.

Vasilyan believes that using strong elements of cohesion and national identity as flags, uniforms and new national holidays could promote the birth of a strong sense of nation identity within the nation itself and as a result facilitate its growth and loyalty.

"What sorts of religious and legal strictures do you think should be part of a new nation?"

Vasilyan believes that a community should start from easy-to-share fundaments, and as a consequence he plans to conceive and promulgate simple and plain laws for the new nations. The most fundamental aspect to consider is that these laws should be conceived in view of a common goal, which is the survival and welfare of the nation itself. Obvious crimes such as murder should of course be condemned, while from a religious point of view Vasilyan thinks that granting the citizens the freedom to worship whichever non-evil deity they prefer could help the people to not feel oppressed by the government. Of course, the nations should promote those faiths encouraging to obedience, virtue and respect of law, such as those of Abadar, Erastil, Iomedae and Torag, at least in order to discourage the birth of sentiments of rebelliousness and protest.

From a legal point of view, the first laws to be promulgated should concern holiday, everyday life, crimes, titles and associated privileges, workers’ rights and environment management. Furthermore, the current situation would probably make necessary the promulgation of a specific law against banditism.

"Do you have particular plans and goals? Why should the swordlords support those goals?"

Vasilyan’s goal don’t differ in anything from those of the swordlords, and is precisely for this reason that he believes they should support them. Vasilyan’s primary goal is to explore the Stolen Lands, clear them from any danger that could hinder the birth of a new community in their borders and lastly to establishment of a new nation in the Stolen Lands. Establishing a new community is both personal and religious Vasilyan’s goal and the swordlords’ one. Furthermore, Vasilyan firmly believes that the birth of a stable nation in the Stolen Lands could come in handy to the Restovian government, both as a buffer state between Brevoy and the most belligerent River Kingdoms and as a precious allied in the case of a civil war in Brevoy. The personal goal that probably less coincide with swordlords’ interests consist in ensuring that the new nation maintains an harmonic relationship with its environment, using the natural resources rationally and with common sense, while maintaining cordial and pacific relationships with Green Belt’s creatures.

"Do you have a criminal background? Is there anything we should know now that might cause problems later in your political future if it were to get out to the public?"

Yes, Vasilyan has a criminal background. He lived as a bandit for 8 years, but never killed anyone. He has renegade that past long ago, and he believes that being a bandit will be more a benefit than a detriment in fighting bandits, because Vasilyan possess a far deeper knowledge regarding bandits, their psychology, motives, tactics and common goals than the majority of other people. Furthermore, he know for personal experience how to deal with a bandit and above all how to transform a bandit in a precious resource for the new nation and a loyal subject instead of turning him into another head on a pike. Vasilyan assures the swordlords to gave regretted mistakes made in the past and ensures them that there’s no chance that he could give in to temptation, also because should he ever do it, he would immediately lose all of his power and therefore won’t be a great threat to deal with. He has understood that the life as a bandit is unhappy and does not reserve anything good at all. If he’s asked for an evidence, he gives a demonstration that there’s no trace of criminality in him, otherwise Erastil would never grant him his favor. Furthermore, Vasilyan stresses that admitting his past crimes is the most evident proof of his complete redemption: he could have lied if he wanted to, but he has chosen to tell the truth. Of course, Vasilyan believes that his criminal past can also be passed over in silence if necessary, although he does not underestimate the possible advantages that having a leader who has renegade banditism could bring: the Stolen Lands’ bandits could be driven to follow his example and abandon their life as bandits and start a new life as honest citizens, emulating Vasilyan’s example showing that everything is possible.

Vasilyan's background is a tad long, I admit. Thus, I've decided to include a short version of his backstory here (I still would like Vasilyan to be considered for his full-lenght background, since I can't do justice to his story with the following summary).

Background Short Version:

  • Vasilyan was born as the second son of Vladislav Medvyed, cousin of the Medvyed family's patriarch. He came into light just few seconds after his twin brother Vladimir.

  • As a child, Vasilyan was jealous of his brother and was constantly playing tricks on him. His father thus decided to send him to New Stetven to separate the rival siblings and ensure that Vasilyan could get an appropriate education at the royal court, so he could serve as his brother's diplomat.

  • When he returned from New Stetven, Vasilyan was a full aristocratic: elegant, charismatic and used to politics.

  • During a hunting tournament, Vasilyan saw a white elk in a clearing and tried to pierce it with his bow. The elk lowered his head at the last second and Vasilyan hit his twin brother instead, who was stationed behind a near bush. Vladimir died soon thereafter. Frightened, and fearing to be charged with murder, he fled.

  • In the following eight years he lived as a bandit in the Stolen Lands. Here, he soon established his own band of outlaw, the "Black Elks". He was corrupted and indulged in vices regularly.

  • Suddenly, he received a calling from Erastil: he saw the white elk again and left the bandits to follow the beast.

  • Unable to catch the white elk, he was found and cured by a mysterious priest of Erastil. He spent an entire winter with the old man, confessing all of his story to him. It was a cathartic experience, and Vasilyan's spirit was renewed. The old priest also told Vasilyan that he was not guilty for his brother's death: the white elk was just a vision (only Vasilyan, as a chosen, could see it), and as such his brother couldn't see it, meaning that hadn't Vasilyan's arrow killed him, his brother would have killed Vasilyan instead, because Vladimir couldn't see any white elk: he was aiming for his brother.

  • Vasilyan spent several years in Mivon, in the hamlet of Velinstadt, helping the local priest and learning how to be the leader of a community.

  • A new man now, with a strong faith in Erastil, Vasilyan came back to his homeland and confessed everything to his father. Vladislav was happy to have his heir back at home and offered him to rule his ancestral lands. Vasilyan wasn't feeling worthy of the task, though, and decided to give up his lordly rights to his younger Brother, joining instead an expedition into the Stolen Lands to purge that lands from bandits and beast, and hopefully to found a new community there.

  • Thank-you for the support Jesse, I would also like to repay the favour by stating that this is a member who is always quick to reply to posts. Also is a GM, which is always a plus as you know they won't just disappear on you.

I shall put forward 2 of my favourite posts once I am home and not on my phone.

Please consider Adney for submission, a paladin of Ragathiel whose roles could be leader, councillor, and general.

I am copying much of this from Jesse Heinig's post above as it also applies to me.

Initial caveat: I'm currently playing in one Kingmaker game, but it's moving at a very slow pace, which prompted me to try for another group.

Neutral Good Half-Elf Hunter - Switch-hitter combatant with a leaning toward ranged combat, minor divine magical support - Potential roles include Marshal, Councilor, or perhaps Royal Enforcer

Quick Character Motivation: Garrik had spent the next several years as he had early in his youth, traveling from villiage to village, region to region, before settling in the River Kingdoms, admiring the freedoms and mostly unspoiled nature of the region. One particular trip into Oleg's Trading Post, intent on selling the man some of the furs, leathers, and game he and Thorn had aquired, Garrik heard tale of Brevoy's intent to send a scouting party into what was known as the Greenbelt. Unsure of Brevoy's motives for such a plan Garrik set out join this party, if for no other reason to keep an eye on the explorers and judge their intent, provide guidance, and maintain the needed balance with nature.

More character background detail is located within this profile.

I would also second Jesse's comments about both Kerri and Thessk.

Hi. This is the alias I'll be using for my ranger. I'm still working on the backstory, but the basic concept is she spent her childhood and early adulthood in the Gronzi Forest with a family of small-time bandits. She's decided on a different path and seeks to make up for her past deeds in the Stolen Lands. I'm planning to take the Hooded Champion and Skirmisher archetypes.

Presenting Jellak Denavrian, recent arrival from Chelliax.

I've started Kingmaker PbP twice, but never made it past the fist few encounters. Looking forward to the opportunity.

I thought about it and Kingmakers sounds perfect for a character i have

Still doing the mechanical stuff but he is a human lore warden fighter with 2 levels of mind chemist or at least that's the build idea for the future.

I'll post again when ready but for know here's the backstory and stuff though.

    Backstory:

    Honor and Reason
    the tale of Garidan Lafayette

Growing up in Arcadia, as an orphan. I was taken in by the military, specifically I was sent to the knights academy; the vanguard of my village. Normally we scout out and clear the trading routes to the other villages on the other end of the continent, the only other known settlements...
It was soon after joining the academy that I met Kiera, the elven woman who would become my best friend and mentor. Strong and fast, Smart and beautiful.

Recording her “Statistics” was something I had avoided doing for years. After all she was my friend, why would I ever need to know her weaknesses. My guess was some part of me knew I could never give her a biased recording, to much emotion getting in the way. As I put my pen to paper, the door swung open.

“Garidan what are you doing? We have a mission”called familiar silvery voice of Kiera, she was the only person in the village I could stand. She was beautiful, but I never told her: hair and eyes the color of ice, and a honest heart unlike my own. She held the same passiveness I learned to love over the years.

“Just recording a few things, knowledge is power after all.” I shut my book, put on my my red and gold robes, bracers and gloves. I grabbed my traveling gear, I turned expecting to see Kiera waiting, only to see her reading my book.

“Your finally getting to recording me I see.” she smiled, I blushed snatching the book from her. She always loved teasing me, I guess that's why I never told her... she already new.

“Let's go” She lead me out of my room and down the hall of the academies living quarters, we passed Arkus and his band of Orcs . They were part of the academy as well, however they were knights. The academy was separated into different organizations, Kiera and I were part of the Paladin sect which operated as the vanguard of the village. Arkus and his band part of the knights, the main force of the military. The two sects never got along, both vied for praise among the villagers.

“Hey look fellas, it's the shining knight and her honor-less mutt” Arkus snarled, the others laughed. Kiera gripped my hand tightly and shook her head.

“Ignore them” she whispered pulling me forward. I slipped out of her grip, walking over to the band.

“You know Arkus, your right I am honor-less” I pretended to accidentally drop a vial in between them, “You wanna hand that to me Arkus” He grabbed the vial, crushing it in his hand, “Oh well” I smiled turning around to rejoin Kiera.

As we continued down the hall, “What was in that vial” Her voice took a harsher tone.

“Nothing you should worry about”, I vial containing an Aersolized poison, enough to get them sick and hurting but not enough to kill. I smirked, I could hear coughing from them already.

“you can't be doing that, you will end up hurting someone” She shook her head in disappointment, nothing I hadn't gotten used to. Arkus and his group deserved what i gave them, bullies the lot of them, they think they can just pick on people all I do is give them a taste of their own medicine.
We reached the general's office, I waited in the hall as Kiera retrieved the papers for our assignment. We were to secure one of the trade roads, there were reports of attacks on them. We reached the area by nightfall, there was a clearing signs of attacks, ransacked carts nothing I hadn't expected. The area suddenly was lit aflame, I couldn't past the fire and shadows, javelins flew out of the darkness.
“Run Garidan! Now” She was serious, She drew her shield and longsword. I listened... I turned tail and ran through the forest leaving her behind like a coward...one of the few times I chose to listen. I ran back to the village, found it on fire to. Kiera was one of the best fighters in the village, I one of the weakest.
I didn't help anyone, I quit being a paladin, I wasn't worthy. Kiera had died that day, so did everyone else except me...I ran. Left for one of the nearby villages, and caught a boat who knows where I just hoped it was far away.

    [spoiler=Appearance and personality]

Garidan wears a chain-mail shirt underneath his clothing, a black shirt and a red scarf. He keeps a small locket with the picture of a Elven woman on his person. Blond hair and grey eyes, he keeps his hair tied back.

Garidan personality wise is kind of a smart ass. He is used to being alone and has little experience making friends as most people dislike him are put off by his rather blunt attitude. He's honest to a fault, he doesn't lie to make people feel better, he tells them things they may not want to hear. He keeps many journals on himself for the purpose of recording data, he can be kind of obsessed when it comes to recording these statistics. He does so as it helps him gauge difficulty and find weaknesses in friend or foe.

    Random Garidan quotes

Everyone loves a hero. They cheer for them, scream their names, and years later they'll tell how they stood for hours in the rain just to get a glimpse of the one who told them to hold on a second longer. I believe there's a hero in all of us, that's why people need to learn to rise to the occasion and fight for themselves become their own heroes. I won't fight their battles for them, i'll help if their's something in it for me but saving individuals isn't my priority destroying the greater evil is.

    Goal/reason for being here:

He's currently just a traveler looking for a reason to exist. his main trait is he is that he both incredibly smart and wise although not the nicest person.

Oh man, the number of times I squealed in excitement when reading the teaser. I don't normally like to post with an alias just to avoid clutter when they don't get picked but I guess I can make an exception for Kingmaker even if my OCD is absolutely flipping out right now. This is going to be my first one and is probably my 'risky' submission just because the character is already hanging out around Oleg's instead of rubbing elbows with the swordlords and signing charters. Don't know how you intended to start the game, but if it's starting back in Restov, I can see how the idea could run into trouble. Let me know if it's not going to work out.

*sneakily slides $100 across the table with the character sheet*

I'm sure we can work out something though.

Wolfspirit, would you accept the Inspiring Commander as a valid Archetype for Cavaliers?

Raven Sirkas here, and ready for some dour, prickly, sarcastic duty.

You can use the Background Skill ranks for Performance, even if you use it for Versatile Performance. Honestly, having a ludicrous number of skills is part of being a bard.

    Unless you're This Guy.

The only thing I'll probably prohibit is "double-dipping" from skill replacement and stacking bonuses. For example, if you have Versatile Performance that allows you to substitute your Perform: Oratory modifier when making Diplomacy checks, a racial bonus to Perform would be included in your "Diplomacy" roll to gather information, but a circumstance bonus to Diplomacy from a trait wouldn't stack.

I tend to allow reflavoring of "fluff" requirements and abilities, so that should be fine.

Also, it's unlikely that anyone in the party will have direct affiliation to the Pathfinder Society. The initial expedition will be sponsored by the Noble Houses of Brevoy.

At this time, I'm not considering 3rd Party or Homebrew character resources. I'm going to have a lot on my plate without having to worry about balancing material from Non-Paizo sources :)

This is Arna, applying for Eledhen! His profile is built out, feel free to take a look.

Sidenote - I see a wide range of content in these recruitment posts - are you just looking for a dot so that you can reference the profile, or would you like us to include some of the characters' background in thread, or something else?

I have now put in 3 writing examples in my profile, 2 of them are since I have been playing again and 1 of them from before. I tried to get 3 that showed a variety of styles, despite 2 of them being the same character.

Where's my link on the document? Ah well, I'll put it back.

SO, I know you wanted to stick with mostly PFS guidelines in your interest check, but also that if we can make a compelling character/case for otherwise. Hopefully, this is one of those cases, and if I don't ask, the answer will always be no. So... here goes.

Meet Kivyx, the kobold paladin and champion of the weak (in spite of his own weakness). A former member of the Stonescale tribe who was spared by a female paladin when his raiding party was attacked by adventurers. Since then, he has tried to walk the path of a paladin, hoping perhaps it will lend him some insight in to why she saved his life, and why life must be saved. He's very unsure of what he's doing and knows he can't fight "fair" with his weak frame, but knows that he enjoys being the "good guy" for a change, and hopes to meet the female paladin once again some day to prove that her way of thinking was right - that mercy is always a viable and even beneficial option.

Essentially, a very non-traditional, but amusing hero who (I hope, at least) will eventually inspire others to walk the path he does.

    History:
"I wasn't always this way. I didn't 'fight evil' or spread 'justice' or do any of that stuff. I was just some kobold living with my tribe underground, trying to figure out my place in the tribe pecking order. And from the way things were going, I was going to be on the very bottom of it.

"I used to live with my tribe, the Stonescales, in our warren in Andoran. We weren't large, but we were respectable. We could fend for ourselves and most of those who couldn't were put to work doing things nobody else wanted to... and for us, that usually meant mining hard to reach veins, testing out snarl defenses, or 'protecting' our tribe from invaders. I was in the middle of that. We were sent into a human mine we had dug into to survey things and snatch up anything that wasn't nailed down. Mining tools, labor animals, resources, the chief said it all belonged to us, and rightfully so: the humans were just leaving the stuff laying around, clearly not putting it to good use. It made sense at the time. We'd raided a few times before, but in this case, the humans were prepared.

"We stumbled across a band of 'adventurers' who had been hired to try and keep us out. We were unequipped to deal with them, and so the leader told us to hold them off while he went to get reinforcements and alert the tribe. We all knew what he was really doing - running for safety. But we don't question that: it gets you killed, and the tribe needs all the valuable warriors it can keep alive. My kin flew blindly into battle and the result was... predictable. I just cowered in the corner, hoping they wouldn't see me. But they did, and just before one of the humans could strike me down with his sword, a female in the group stepped in and stopped him. She was... remarkable. The most beautiful softskin I'd ever seen. I knew she was human, but her eyes, her scaled armor, her long hair... I thought she might have been a metallic dragon in disguise. But she stopped the sword and smiled at me; I thought she wanted to kill me herself.

"But she didn't. She came down to my level - I didn't even know humans could go so low - and she spoke to me in my own language! She asked me why I was here, what I wanted, what was going on. I told her everything, hoping it would placate her and earn me my life. And then... she said... she wasn't going to kill me... or let the other humans do me in... she said I wasn't evil, and that I should be given a chance to prove it. I... I was... I still am... utterly stunned! She was going to let me live! I couldn't help, but ask her why, and... she said that every life is... precious... that I was precious... and she wanted to save every life that she could. And then, just like that, she stood up and lead the others back out of the mine.

"...I was shocked. I couldn't believe what had happened, but it did. She spared my life. She saved me. Because she said my life was precious. I was precious. I'm nobody! I'm a monster, who wasn't even good at being a monster! But... she said I was precious! I didn't know what to do. I knew I couldn't go back to my tribe, not after that. I had failed... even if I had spinned it around in my favor, I couldn't back up what I said. I would just go back to being a flunky to our chief. So... I didn't! I just left, and followed after the female warrior. I stayed out of sight, but I couldn't help learning more. I wanted to know why exactly she saved me. I can't say how long I followed her, but I know it felt like a long time - she was strong and fearless and persistent and patient and... all of these things that I wasn't. I wasn't exactly sure what she was doing, but whatever she did, she tried to give those who she faced a chance to throw down their weapons. That confused me to no end. For my kind, you strike first and never wonder if it was the right choice, because that was always the right choice.

"...but I... I wanted to believe that was wrong. I wanted to believe that not killing was a good choice. I don't know why, maybe because it was what spared my life, but... I did. I wanted - no, I want to be like that human. I'm not there, not by a long shot. But... I want to know why she spared me. I have to know. Why is life precious? Why must it be saved? What about me is so special that this softskin human, who had never met me, knew nothing of me, and shouldn't have saved me, would show me kindness... some monster who had been left for dead at the hands of his own kind?

"I don't know the answer yet. I might never figure it out. I'd like to, but I don't expect to live too long continuing the way I do - you know, the whole 'fighting evil' thing. But... I like to think that I will, just like the thought that sparing enemies might be a good idea. It's nice to think about, for a change, instead of thinking that everything in the world is out to kill me, including my own kin.

"Since then, I found some supplies of my own and tried to become like that female warrior. Fight evil, spread justice, protect the innocent, all that stuff. I don't know if I'm doing it right - probably not, but I'm trying. I just travel from place to place trying to right wrongs and prevent death if I can. I know I don't fight fair; I can't, honestly. I wasn't cut out for our tribe's mines, so I know I'm not going to have luck swinging a big sword like she did. I sneak around, ambush bad guys, set up traps, everything you'd expect from my kind. Sometimes, I have to steal stuff to keep going - I know I shouldn't, but most people are very nervous around me and don't like to talk to me. I don't blame them, but it does force me to be dishonest sometimes. But it means I can't always get things that I need. I try to, but...

"...it is kind of nice, though, being the... the 'good guy' for a change. I think I'm doing the right thing. I don't really know. Maybe, if Apsu wills it, I'll get to see that female paladin again and ask her if what I'm doing is... 'good'. Or at least thank her for sparing my life. I'd like to prove to her - to myself, really - that saving me was the right choice. I'd like that... I'd like that a lot."

That's actually somewhat concerning; it looks like there were changes lost between now and what I have in my Noon snapshot I'd made (I've been copying off the Google sheets to make sure I've got a backup in the event of malicious editing.)

If anyone notices something else missing, let me know.

Ammon back again with the crunch.

Side addition edit: noticed you asked for which positions they might look for or be good in. Warden or Viceroy. Garidan isn't exactly a people person or party face material.

Left for one of the nearby villages, and never returned.

    Appearance and personality:

Iff here, I present Francesca "Franka" Aigner as my first submitted character for this campaign. All information on her is in the character profile.

    Character summary
Franka is a druid with the Menhir Savant archetype, which signifies her studies into the Æther and the magic she's drawing from her understanding of it. She has spent her early years as a servant to House Lebada and her most recent years with a Kellid tribe to learn about their understanding of the Æther, which gives her personality a nice blend of humble civility and rugged determination. She is comfortable in the wilderness, but isn't a 'typical' druid in the sense that she doesn't feel particularly connected to nature (other than appreciating it as something to learn about as part of her study of the Æther).
Mechanically, Franka would fill a support combat role, providing skills and knowledge out of combat. When it comes to kingdom building The leadership roles I see here fulfilling are Magister, Councilor (making sure that the citizenry finds a way to develop in harmony with its environment and serving as a common-folk liaison to those in power above her), or High Priest (being a neutral party interested in mystic affairs and turning her own spin on things).

    About me
I haven't been on this forum for very long, although I have been roleplaying for quite some years. I've finished a couple of PFS scenario's on PbP here and have recently been lucky enough to be selected into GM Giuseppe's Quest for the Everflame. The experience of an 'actual' campaign with selected characters has been very rewarding, thus far. I've chosen two posts from that campaign to show about my posting style, both out of combat and in combat. (Link1) and (Link2). The rest of the thread should hopefully show my posting frequency and consistency, if you would like to dig into that.

BTW I'm not 100% sure what ("Taldan") in the tagline is for, anyone know?
anyway, here is my submission (as of this posting I've only half transferred it into the paizo alias and I have to finish later)

I refers to the human half of the half-breed in question. For example Garrik is Half-Elf ("Ulfen")

Checking in with my submission. Soon as I finish this stretch of work I will finish off the last bit of details on the character.

    Race: Human
    Class: Reincarnated Druid
Role: Summons for combat support, Heals, support casting and battlefield control.
Leadership Positions: Marshal, High Priest, Councillor, or Consort

Including (or reposting) pertinent details in the profile is probably safer to make sure I don't miss it.

The most important part about making a post in this thread is a "proof of interest", especially given the fact that there was a month long lead-up and people were expressing interest before several important details were posted.

You forgot to put me on the list. I'm hurt. :( ^_^

You are supposed to add yourself ;). Also people who posted in the other thread have to repost here to show that they are still interested.

did't know that, added myself in.

I'll get something whipped up, but I'm very excited!

People can update the roster themselves though I'll be going through and adding people that have made a submission post and have yet to (or are unable to) make an addition to the roster.

I've been treading water just trying to respond to questions in the meantime though :)

I'll have my characters up tonight after work!

I'd like to submit Foxglove a Male human magus (eldritch scion). He has a blood line connection to the fey of unknown origin being a foundling, a mystery that drives him to seek out and learn more about the fey. This is one of the driving facets of he personality and a prime motivation for him to adventure in the stolen lands.

This character was created for another kingmaker recruitment a while ago, but I believe it is PFS legal. Never the less I, plan on making a few tweaks before the deadline.

    Second Seekers (Roheas)

Wow this is a really special advert.

Definitely going to make time work on this later tonight.

I updated the Campaign Info tab with some FAQs and Teasers. I'll try to keep it up to date as I go.

I think I've answered all the questions people have had, but there's been a lot to keep track of. If there's anything I haven't answered within a day, PM me (again, if necessary) and I'll make sure to respond.

    Grand Lodge

Sweet, the full recruitment thread is up! I've got two characters I'd like to submit, one which I previewed in the last thread, and a second one.

Lucius Baradain Human sword and board fighter that will switch hit into Paladin (Sacred Shield) early on. Concept is to build a strong tank defender character. Leadership roles of interest are General, Marshal and potentially a ruler.

Náriel Lauric Second on the list is a Wizard controller character. Choosing a thrush familiar and going with a fairly strong charisma score, Náriel will be a trained diplomat out of combat. Leadership rules are Grand Diplomat, Magister or possibly as a ruler. Still needs some crunch details worked on.

Updated Emil and reworked the base concept into something more interesting; And did you know that if you take too long writing something in your profile the paizo website will just eat it, burp in your face loudly and thank you for the meal?

I want those two hours back :(

I'll post the character's background (again) sometime on Friday.

I see a lot of people have posted what they think they will be doing with their characters as they go up in level. Is that something you'd like to see from all players?

Presenting Corath, a freshly trained military mage working on transmutation magic. He's not quite done, but he is close.

It's a lot shorter time than two hours too. :(
