I quickly made an image of Oleg,
given the verbal description of him.
I did not have any breads that I could have used to finish it off properly

You know I do consider moving to another country. Thankfully things have not gotten that bad, still visit other countries for enjoyment. ;)
Anyways sense we are finally all in the same place anything Arumil should notice about you guys (old party)?
Raxus Half-blood |
I think everyone should live in another country for at least a year, and if it takes a political motivation to get them to do it, so be it. The US is shockingly far behind most of the rest of the first world in a lot of social policy areas. Living other places definitely broadens your perspective about that.
Personally, I'm hoping to move to the Netherlands or Norway sometime around 2016. :)
Arumil Amaim |
Well the problem with that is not everyone has the means. Their are alot of people who will work until old age just to get by. That is the state of things for most people, which in my view is wrong on so many levels.
Anyways if I left this country for political reasons I would never come back. The country did not get messed up over night and it wont be fixed over night. If I leave for that reason its because in my view the country is dying. History proves great powers fall all the time, rare is the power to endure or even come back from a near fall. To think that this country can not fall or fail is foolish in the extreme to me. You have to take the long view for a country, something that is too often forgotten. Which is why we pay for it if we dont, which we currently are and have been. I think a leader that knows these things and does something about them as well as move forward without being influenced by the "glory" of our nation and such is needed.
Just my thoughts, what do I. ;)
Well I will post in the gameplay thread when I wake up. Been a long night.
Temerith |
I've been to Israel and England before, and they were great places to visit, but I'm not sure they're the kind of places I'd like to teach. I've got two more years until I finish my degree, but now at least I won't need to flee the country in order to make a living!
Temerith is, as you've seen, pretty quiet, so I'm going to try and wait until someone else gets the ball rolling before I have him attempt to chime in.
DM Haldhin |
I'm going to give people another day to get introductions out of the way.
This campaign is really character-driven. There isn't a specific path or encounter structure, so I can't really provide hints about telling you what to do, where to go, or who you should talk to... I'll try to provide as much direction as I can, but when you guys want to do something, just throw it out there and we'll start adventuring! :)
DM Haldhin |
I can't believe I didn't do this before. Guess I was too busy winning the "Dumb DM of the week" award. :/
I've uploaded the charter image, and a text "translation" so people can actually read it. I am also going to upload a calendar and timeline so we can keep track of what's happening.
Charter Summary
Essentially, everyone has been tasked with exploring a specific part of the Greenbelt in the Stolen Lands, using Oleg's Trading Post as a reference point. You are also instructed to "strive against banditry or other unlawful behavior".
Those are the instructions and objectives that everyone currently shares as this campaign begins.
Other Important Details
For reference purposes, the first group arrived at Oleg's on 03 Pharast, while the second group arrived on 09 Pharast. It is early Spring in the area, and nights are occasionally chilly, though the days are getting warmer.
The group is expected to report their progress back to the Swordlords no later than 31 Sarenith. That gives the group +/- 5 months to accomplish as much as possible. Reporting back early if everything is completed is perfectly acceptable, and may even impress some of the Swordlords on the ruling council.
I am also leaning toward changing the travel/exploration times and making them a bit more random. I'll post more details on these changes today. None of these specific changes should really impact the players, it's more for my benefit and timing of certain events.

Gameplay Thread
After the "introductions" are complete, I am going to get Oleg and Captain Garess interacting with the players to figure out some details about expanding the Post and getting the bandits to work. After that, it will be up to the players to tell me what you want to try and accomplish. At this stage, there will generally be two options: 1. explore the region or 2. focus on quests.
Hope this post helps explain some things I neglected to mention before! Please let me know if there are any additional questions.

Purchasing things from Oleg:
Mundane Items
Items that cost less than 5 gold are generally available (90% of the time).
More expensive items, or those that a frontier trading post wouldn't typically stock, usually take a week to receive. That said, I'll give him a very slim chance of randomly having a particular item just lying around his storage shed.
Magic Items
Depending on the item, it may take longer than a week to arrive, if it can be located at all.
Arumil Amaim |
Ah well I plan on taking some crafting feats with Arumil. Will make a list anyways, better to find it then craft it. The only non magical item I am currently thinking of him getting is a Nethys statuette made of silver and cold iron, dont know how much that would cost but I am sure its more then 6 gp.
Arumil Amaim |
Was looking thru items for my wishlist, a long list indeed I might add, and came across the staff of minor arcana. In case you dont know its a staff that lets you use magic missile and shield, its text says its normally a gift to apprentices when they finish study under a master. Have yet to ever see it in the hands of a PC or NPC. So I guess all masters are cheap, or its just one of those items that will never be used. xP
Raxus Half-blood |
Werent we just told which direction Oleg wanted us to explore?
expanding the Post isn't something that can wait, so if you don't mind a request, could you focus on exploring the areas immediately to the south?
DM Haldhin |
Arumil, definitely. My intent is that everyone should know about all the quests at this point.

I'm also going to adjust the time requirements for travel and exploration. This change is more to help me manage things on my side. It shouldn't have much effect on the group or your decisions, and I'll make sure you guys don't get blind-sided by anything as a result of this change. I'll post details tomorrow so we're all on the same page.
Here is a short explanation for the map in the shared folder:
Basically, black hexes are unknowns, uncovered hexes are those you have traveled through, those with green outlines are ones you have explored. Icons and text represent encounters or landmarks that you may want (or need) to remember. (I'll post something like this on the map going forward.)
Arumil Amaim |
Well going to post shortly sense everyone agreed to diplomactic option. Guessing no one else speaks draconic.
@DM
When we uncover a hex do we know everything thats in it or do we have to make some kind of roll to find everything in it?

Sorry if I overstepped a bit but rather not let the kobolds escape. No way they give up their home that easy. Would not put it pass a kobold to send us to some sort of trapped location or monster's lair.
So hopefully they fall asleep so we can tie them up and get the truth out of them. If anything we can use them as trap and monster bait when we go to the tree. Bet they become real truthful then.
P.S. I regret not getting charm person in my spellbook. xP

Here's a quick rough of Temerith,
that I did.

Don't worry too much about it. Sometimes characters disagree ;)

Here's a quick rough of Temerith,
that I did.
Way, way, way, way too bulky. He's tall and a little broad, but nothing like that. And he's actually far more human-looking than you'd think, just plus a tail and some horns. And red scales covering his hands, forearms, feet and shins.
It's pretty cool though, regardless.

When I did the render, I took your stats into account, with the difference of STR to DEX for the bulk,
but I'll reduce the bulk a chunk as it was a rough draft. And I can't do tails or horns given my current resources,
the red scales would require a lot of texture work.
