Arumil:

My response:
I understand where you're coming from, so let me explain where I'm coming from:

1. Arumil's desire to make a place for his people outside of Kyonin
DM: I thought this goal was something he wanted to do of his own accord, and I didn't think what Mylbaen asked him to do was opposed to creating a safe haven.

Perhaps I did not explain things well, but the looming threat is actually directed at the elves, not Kyonin. The leaders in Kyonin are ignoring it, which is why Mylbaen left, but what he sees in his visions is tied to the Sovyrian Stone, and may destroy the elven race. (Yes, that would, by extension, destroy Kyonin as well, but that would be an indirect consequence, not the actual target).

2. Why save the homeland; Treerazer, etc
DM: Absolutely right, but I hope the distinction I'm trying to make is enough of a separation from Kyonin to get Arumil's attention.

And yes, they are vigilant against planar incursions... inside their own borders. But what about outside their borders? My impression of them is that they would not actively investigate potential threats in unclaimed wilderness thousands of miles away.

Mylbaen believes something is going to happen in or around the Stolen Lands, and he doesn't trust Kyonin to deal with it. That's why he's trying to find somebody.

Now, that all said, if this still doesn't make sense to you, I'll take another stab at it. I'm not tied to this, just trying to figure out a good way for Arumil to get his hands on a charter... and provide a little bit of foreshadowing. :)

And I'm absolutely going to use the priestess! Are you kidding? I love it! A Calistrian priestess, spurned by her true love. Oh yeah, she'll be making an appearance down the road.

(I like Arumil leaving Kyonin because of his dissatisfaction with the elven civilization though, not because of her. I think it makes her anger more robust in some way; he didn't even care enough about her to say goodbye when he left.)

Raxus, I'll check those out then, thanks for mentioning them. I'll let you know here asap.

Varnius, that's kind of my plan when you guys get into the Gameplay thread.

To everyone: Just for the record, I'm not into graphic or NSFW posts in my games. I understand that some topics might be part of posts from time to time, and that's okay. But I don't need gory details, or references to specific body parts and what people like to do with them.

Male Elf Air Elementalist Spellbinder 3 (HP 14/ AC 13, T 12, FF 11/ F +1, R +3, W +3/ Init +2/ Perc +2)

For the record I dont even know what NSFW means, as for graphic stuff I keep in mind that kids have access to this site so I normally keep things vague or around the PG level. I mean you can find graphic stuff on TV as is so really I cant type something more gorey then that. x3

DM:

I get it, just misunderstood before I guess. Did not want to take him out of his plans sense that is what drives him, removing his drive would mess up his character. But this could work, another reason why those old fools are making a mistake. Just the example as to why he is right and should create a new place for his people.

Btw sense I have not played to far into Kingmaker, I did hear that their are some elven ruins thru out the AP but not when. Just want to know when they are discovered sense I thought it would be a prime spot for Arumil. But if their around the backend of the AP and not close to the time of the city founding it would not be practical. If its giving to much away then never mind or let me know that I was misinformed. I tend to think ahead on things.

For the record she was not spurned, he is just clueless. Calistrian priestess have a known issue with love so the thought never came to mind, their thoughts on lust just as well known. Thats what makes it so much more entertaining I think. ;)

NSFW = Not Safe For Work

That works for me, Arumil, and thanks for the assist Bridgette.

Arumil:
I don't want to give away too many spoilers, but I will say that Arumil should have a chance to realize his goals (or at least get them started) well before the end of the campaign.

As for the priestess, I get you, but she might have moments where she thinks she was spurned. After all, she had a crisis of the faith when she fell in love, so I'd be surprised if she was always thinking logical and rational. :)

So does Mylbaen and his "quest" work for you? If so, would you mind adding it to the background on your character tab?

Male Elf Air Elementalist Spellbinder 3 (HP 14/ AC 13, T 12, FF 11/ F +1, R +3, W +3/ Init +2/ Perc +2)

That shouldn’t be a problem. I’m more of a:

Varnius immolates his foe with a blast of sorcerous fire.

Than;

Varnius kicks the decapitated head of his foe, sending it flying into the air trailing arterial spray like a shiny, wet firework before colliding with the unseen and unsuspecting troll.

Or at least I was before THAT sentence happened…

Half-ogre Barbarian 3 HP 37/37, AC 14, FF 14, Touch 10, CMD 16, Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +0, Rage rounds 9/9

I'm with you, DM. I don't mind adult subject matter, I just think it's more tasteful to insinuate/fade to black.

The calistrian in that game was an extremely toxic player. She was the main reason the game died.

Raxus, I'm fine adding something about the plague and the bandit that got away during that fight, but I have to say, I'm not sure what that DM was running, but none of that is in any of my Kingmaker books. :)

I'll have to think up something about the plauge, so give me a day or so to figure that out.

For the bandit, would you be okay if we retconned the story he was part of a group that ambushed Raxus on the road and demanded money? Raxus could have killed or disabled the others, but he ended up escaping back into the woods? I'm open to alternatives, just trying to find some way for it to fit into this story.

Bridgette and Bydar, don't forget to check out the Gameplay thread.

Why did no one just say that the game is a little more PG and not R rated. If they could tone it down a bit. No reason to shut a game down over something like that. Then again I was not there so I could be wrong. ;)

I have seen worst on game commercials. Not to mention the recent trailers for all the horror/supernatural flicks lately. That sentence would only bug me in that I could not type something so detailed and creative. xP

Thanks Arumil, I actually did English and Creative Writing at university....at least its paying off somewhere *sigh*.

I think rather than language, the hardest thing is going to be training myself to be good rather than neutral. As soon as those worgs showed up my first thought was, "flammable". Not especially diplomatic.

Hah.

I would expect Temerith to get into a staring contest with them. Just sorta seems like the proper response.

Male Elf Air Elementalist Spellbinder 3 (HP 14/ AC 13, T 12, FF 11/ F +1, R +3, W +3/ Init +2/ Perc +2)

Well if you knew they were worgs then a good type would want to kill them sense they are evil. So your reaction is closer to good then neutral as far as I see. Anyways I prefer neutral just for that reason, less judgemental and open to work with anyone or anything regardless of nature.

By the way was wondering what role everyone is going for kingdom wise?

HP: 30/30 AC: 17:13:14 Saves:6:5:5 Init: 2, Dip+9 Per: +9 SenMot +7

My list of roles are listed in my profile.

And what is everyone's height so I can visualise the scene with everyone in proper proportion to each other.

Temerith's six foot even. Though that's counting his horns.

As far as roles in the kingdom, let me take another look at the player's guide.

-e-

General, Warden or Marshall look right up Temerith's alley, mostly because he won't be all that good at many of the other roles with a whopping 6 Charisma.

Male Elf Air Elementalist Spellbinder 3 (HP 14/ AC 13, T 12, FF 11/ F +1, R +3, W +3/ Init +2/ Perc +2)

Well the only one taller then Arumil is Raxus thanks to his giant blood. While no one would be lighter then Arumil (among males), leaned out alot. Elves are funny like that. x3

The role Arumil would gun for is Magister, while he would be fine with anything else that would make use of his high Int. So Grand Diplomat, Spymaster, or Treasurer as back up. He has no desire to rule a kingdom or empire, he would be fine with his own city under a worthy ruler. But thats the trick, who is worthy. ;P

Male Human Cleric 3 (HP 21;AC16,T11,FF15; F+5,R+2,W+7; Init +1; Perc +3){Effects:none}

Five feet, ten inches for Bydar.

Despite his noble birth and good charisma score that would make him a decent ruler, I get the feeling he'll be type cast as the High Priest/Pope type ;)

I'd be fine with either and there are some others he could fit.

It wasn't just the oversexualization. She kept trying to split the party, run off on her own, picked fights with every female we came across, and argued with anyone who asked her to tone it down (apparently *we* were spoiler *her* fun. Ironic)

Anyway, not important anymore, except as an example of things to avoid.

I was just thinking about how awesome it would be for a farmer to forge a relationship with a pack of wargs where they would protect the cattle/sheep from other predators and from thieves, and in return the farmer would provide them with livestock once a month.

Pretty sweet deal.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

My characterisation demands that I go for ruler. If not, high CHA role will be the most mechanically beneficial. Although might be on the back foot as far as diplomat is concerned considering the Surtovans tried to hang me. Heh heh.

Raxus would be fun as a ruler in a sort of "king conan" kind of way.

I honestly hadn't thought that far ahead. If not ruler, then maybe a general of some kind. That's about all he'd be suited for really.

OOC Varnius would be the best for ruler due to high Cha. But IC Arumil will only support the best suited PC for the job, someone who proves themself and shows they are worthy of that kind of trust.

We can always toss the whole king idea and go council in which case the "leader" would really just be a representitive and have no more power then the others. Considering we are a bunch of adventures that would not be unreasonable.

Anyways just my thoughts on it. ;)

HP: 30/30 AC: 17:13:14 Saves:6:5:5 Init: 2, Dip+9 Per: +9 SenMot +7

Given that I'm the only female PC and have a CHA of 14.
I'll likely be queen or some STR based Role.

Couple of items:

New people - I'll post an introduction for you all later today. It will be the scene in which you meet each other for the first time, and will encompass your journey to Oleg's Trading Post. It is intended to give the group a chance for some IC roleply.

Old people - You will return to Oleg's and have several events to handle.

My plan is for the new people to arrive around the time that the events have been settled. That will occur at a natural break in the action, and set up the entire crew deciding what to do and where to go.

It's a long way off to worry about but fun to think about.

My own suggestion at this early stage might be that, assuming we make it that far, each character becomes a head of their own House, or House offshoot (in the case of those that were already noble). Different regions of the kingdom would be subdivided as the focus of each house. They then vote on which House's head should rule as King or Queen, but that council would still have plenty of power should they disagree with said monarch making it a monarchy with restraints. Any royal heir to the throne would need the approval of the Council to be considered worthy to succeed.

There are dangers to that system mind you, but it might allow us a balance gamewise.

It could be fun either way :)

@Bydar don't worry about roleplaying, its still activity and everything you were doing was advancing the situation. With regards to the Cpuncil/House and voting structure, I'd be up for trying it as long as its kept relatively simple. I have found in the past that inter-party factions can be problematic.

You are right that its a long way off. Has anyone encountered the Kingmaker Graveyard thread? Temerith is going to glare at things, and if that doesn't work, he's going to hit them with his bastard sword. If THAT doesn't work, then it's time to turn tail (he even has the tail to turn) and flee like a little girl.

The better part of valor is discretion, or something like that!

My favorite low-level tactics are to equip casters with Tower Shields. The only thing non-proficiency does is apply the ACP penalty to attack rolls. Two casters standing next to each other with Tower Shields have cover (which grants evasion), and can really only be approached from one side each.

Also, nets. High dex characters can eat the non-proficiancy penalty because it's a touch attack. For most low-level monsters, nets are a death-sentance.

I'm assuming that Gua Zhen's posting has been affected by the storms in the northeast. Just posting here to let people know.

@DMHaldhin Do you have any preferences when it comes to in gameplay posting with regards to backfilling events like I did in my first post or in certain tenses used etc?

It caught me off guard, and that's not good. Please tone it down.

My preference is for active (present) tenses. I understand the need for background in early posts, but as we continue, please keep "flashback" type information to a minimum.
