1 person marked this as a favorite.

Ok...I am willing to give this a shot with the first book, Stolen Land. I am looking for 6 players. A 20 point buy with 2 traits (any subject to my accepting) and I was thinking of going old school and allowing only base classes and races. Max starting money, and I am sure I am forgetting something, so please just ask.
I will also need a background telling me how you ended up at Oleg's.
Be gentle...its my first time Dming a PbP, thought I have had 20 or so years real life DM experience.

Ditto.

So with core only how do feel about architypes etc?

Liberty's Edge

Sorry forgot to say I will keep recruitment open until Saturday 5:00pm (MT) then will try to get those chosen out by Sunday AM.
As for archetypes, they will work for me, but only pathfinder stuff...I will trust you to know your character and what they can and cannot do.
Good Luck!!

Grand Lodge

Feral escaped halfing, sort of an homage to the kid from Road Warrior?

The character's posts show her presentation. It would be the same character, but not the PFS treatment. Same stats and such. Just not the PFS toon.

Don't worry it's DMing that's hard if anything play by post is easier to DM because it's harder to be distracted and you have time to think.

Also there is a auto log of everything that happens.

Sczarni

Any alignment restrictions?

Would you even consider an evil character who knew his place in a party which would help him to accomplish his personal goals (basically a commitment to no intra-party conflict)?

Background:
Vladamir's father was the Chelaxian spymaster. His job was to make sure that relations between neighboring kingdoms were stable, and to make sure the Cheliax's people were stable.
He did this by Planting cleverly crafted rumors to make the population believe whatever Cheliax's Rulers wanted the people to believe.
Vladimir's mother was an actress who worked in all the major productions. She was most famous for her role in the play, "Blood of the Night Mother".
His mother was also secretly in a cult that worshiped a powerful demon lord, the worship of demons is strictly against the law in the devil worshiping Cheliax.

While Vladamir's mother was pregnant with him, his mothers cult leader had her and a few other women from the cult drink the blood of a powerful demon. Vlad's mother was the only survivor, but not without a cost... She became an unholy monstrosity. Vlad's father started to investigate his wife's absence. In a few weeks time he discovered his wife's cult. He decided for his wife's sake that he would not alert the authorities but deal with it himself. Vlad's father being the master spy he is, used his skills to infiltrate the cult, and to his horror, discover that the cult is worshiping the half-demon that is his wife. So Vlad's father devised a way to gain the trust of the cult, kill the monster that was his wife, and still have his son. So for the next 5 months Vlad's father waited, and gained the trust of the cult who was awaiting the birth of their prophet. It was time to act, Vlad's father revealed his presence to his former wife, telling her that he was a believer. She believed his story and made him her favored servant. On the day Vlad's mother was to give birth, his father injected her with liquid cold iron, killing her, and cut
Vlad from her womb. The authorities were alerted of the cults presence, and immediately set out to destroy it.

Vlad's spy training began on his seventh birthday. His father wanted to train Vlad how his father taught him, the hard way.
When Vlad was fifteen years old his father gave him the tasks of finding out the current territory of the gangs in Cheliax's capital city, to infiltrate one of the gangs, and kill that gangs leader.
He was not to return until all the tasks are complete. Vlad's father didn't give him any other info besides that.
Vladimir, distraught, tried to first discover who were the major gangs. This wasn't very difficult as gang activity was at an all time high, and it was the only thing people seemed to talk about.
The gangs are, The Night's Razors, The Moaning Winds, and The Devil Blood Clan. With that out of the way, next was to find out who the gang's leaders were. This would be a bit trickier, but Vlad had several people around the city who could tell him, for a price.

So Vlad met with his friend Pierre Du Bretagne at a tavern in the South-side of the city. Pierre told Vlad in a voice, "I don't know much, all know is that the Razors stick to the South, the Winds stay up North-East, and the Bloods got the west. Also, the leader of the Razors name is simply The Cutter."
With this new information Vlad decided that he would infiltrate the Razors and kill The Cutter. It wasn't difficult contacting the gang, as the gang seemed to be seeking out the young and poor.
Disguised as a child beggar, it wasn't long before he was contacted by one of the gangs recruiters. Vlad was told by that he would be given 20 gold pieces if he brought him the hand of a Winds gang member. Troubled by this, Vlad decided to just simply set a trap in an alley for the gangster reasoning that this man was a criminal and probably deserved it. So Vlad tracked a Winds pesh dealer to his alley. Taking the chance Vlad sneaked up behind him and stabbed him to death.

The recruiter seemed pleased when Vlad told him that this was the hand of a Winds pesh dealer. Now having successively infiltrated the gang, Vlad moved on to phase three, kill the leader.
Vlad advanced fast in the gang due to his formal training in the art of the sword, and his training as a spy. Vlad was contacted by one of his fathers informants, he told Vlad, "Your father told me to tell you, that he is pleased and thought you might need these."
He was given two short swords and piece of paper that gave the names and whereabouts of the members of John Cutter's inner circle.

With this new info Vlad quickly contacted Malvernus Andros,
who was one the members in the inner-circle. Vlad inquired that he wished to work for him and that he would do anything. Malvernus struck a deal, if Vlad was to kill this private-investigator that has been troubling him, he would give Vladamir a position as his assassin. Killing this man would take a few days, it is one thing to kill a petty gang member and another thing to kill a respected private-investigator. He tracked the investigator to his workplace and back to his house. Everyday on his commute He would stop at he same place and get some tea.
It was hear that the killing would take place. That morning during his tea, the investigator died from poisoned tea. Now just a position away from being in John Cutter's inner-circle,
all Vladamir had to do was to replace Malvernus with himself. But first he had to become Malvernus' most trusted man.

For the next month Vlad did everything Malvernus asked of him, working his way to becoming his right-hand. One day, Malvernus told Vlad, "It is time to test if you are truly to be trusted. You are to kill the captain of the guard." He gave Vlad a vile of black liquid. "Apply this to a weapon and he will die." Troubled, Vladamir contacted his father. His father responded with a letter saying, "In this line of work you will have to do many dark things to achieve the greater good." The letter didn't help Vlad's conscious very much, but it did help Vlad make a decision if he was to kill the guard or not.

After a week of planning Vlad knew everything there was to know about the captain, Titus Malkar. Vlad knew that every other day he would water his plants on his balcony. Vlad knew that the captain was a patron of the arts. At the end of every week Titus would go see a play. Vlad knew that from 3:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m, Titus would be alone in his office, going over paperwork.
Vlad knew that in the evening Titus would practice his swordsmanship, he was very skilled. Vlad also knew that there is no chance of beating Titus in a straight up fight, even with the black poison. Vladamir decided that he would take Titus down during the play.
In the evening during the play, "Blood of the Night Mother" Vladamir was disguised as one of the actors in the play. The reason Vlad decided to act was because he knew this play particularly well, because him and his father would go and see the play twice a year. During the mid-play break Vlad approached Titus in the stands, Vladamir told Titus that we appreciate his continued attendance. Vlad then told Titus that he would like to give him a gift. So Vlad reached into his cloak and pulled out a knife, jamming it into Titus' throat.

Now Malvernus' right hand, Vlad poisoned him with the black poison. His cause of death was determined to be a poison handling accident. Vlad was invited to the inner circle in the following weeks after Malvernus' death. So the moment is about arrive as Vladamir does the secret knock in a generic door in a generic ally. Vlad is greeted by a masked man. The man hands Vlad a robe and mask. Once Vlad is in the inner chamber he is greeted by eleven other masked men and women. They tell Vlad to take a seat, and that master Cutter is soon to arrive.
A man walks in, he is wearing a golden mask that is scratched and is adorned blood stains, and a black cloak.

"Welcome brothers and sisters" says Cutter. "Today we are to discus the increasing threat of the Devil Blood Clan. They continue to take territory from us, that needs to stop."
"I would also like to address our new member, Vladamir" Cutter then goes on to planning with the other members a strategy to take down the Devil Blood Clan. He then goes on to explain Vlad's position in the inner-circle as the, "Dealer of Death". After about an hour it is time to leave. It is now time to learn the Cutters schedule. After the meeting Vladamir starts tracking The Cutter. Vlad tracks the cutter to an abandoned house. For the next few meetings, Vlad tracks The Cutter to the same house, every time. So Vlad knew he had only had one option, to enter the house.
Inside the house was extremely dark, but Vlad was able to see enough. The housed seemed totally empty, but upon entrance to the basement Vlad noticed a stone door.
Within this door Vlad saw The Cutter, unmasked. sleeping on a stone slab surrounded by mutilated corpses. Upon closer inception all the bodies had two holes in their necks. Vlad stood over the resting vampire. poisoned dagger in hand, he stabbed the Cutter in the heart, killing him. Or so he thought... The Cutter screamed and began to savagely maul Vladimir, tearing apart his arms and face. Vlad regained his bearings and threw his tainted blade into the vampire, stunning it. With the other blade he took down The Cutter for good.

Days later at Vlad's father's office, Vlad's father told him, "You training is complete son. You have done what I have done, and what my father, and my father's father has done. Now you will take my place on your twenty-fifth birthday. Now as is the tradition of the initiate spymaster, you will leave Cheliax and live the life of adventure. Now the reason you must leave, is that to be an effective spy you must experience the many different cultures of this land." So Vlad stayed for a few more days, gathering equipment and supplies. On the last day he told his father goodbye, and left. Hearing about an expedition into the stolen lands, Vlad thought thought that sounded like the perfect place to start his life of adventure.

I submit Jarix, a country boy looking for a life of adventure.

Jarix was raised on a homestead on the Rostland Plains. He spent the days of his youth daydreaming of a life of high adventure. In his fantasies, after many years of adventure, he retired a powerful and wealthy lord. His powers manifest during a bandit raid against his home. The eruption of arcane energies threatened to consume him until he unleashed them upon his attackers.

After the attack, Jarix trained in the use of his new abilities and after much trial and painful error, was able to gain control of them. Shortly after coming of age Jarix left his family and home to begin to live the life of his dreams.

Background:

Five years ago, the fourteen year old Solan Calezaru crept off his parent’s river barge at Artume with intentions of petty theft, wenching and general havoc. By morning he found himself in the stocks doing his best to weather a storm of rotten vegetables and worse. By afternoon he had been set free, but he returned to the River Sellen to find the gaily painted barge of the Calezarus gone.

Left to fend for himself, it took only a week for Solan to grow tired of running from the rough-handed templars of Artume and head out into the woods. He did his best to live off the land, hunting birds, squirrels and the occasional deer with a stolen bow, but quickly got hungry and (although he wouldn’t admit it to himself) lonely. One evening he stumbled across the camp of the Sixhoot Gang, a dangerous band of outlaws led by the grizzled old ranger Mendocian and decided a life of brigandry would serve him just fine.

The Sixhoot Gang were always happy to welcome new blood into their ranks – new blood being much easier to waste. However, Solan showed himself to be a tough and dirty little fighter, with an instinct for slipping unharmed through the vicious, claustrophobic politics of the bandit gang. Mendocian tutored him in archery, and Solan aptly demonstrated his newfound skill by putting an arrow between Mendocian’s shoulder blades from over a hundred yards away whilst the gang a tinker’s wagon on the road to Gralton.

None in the Sixhoot Gang felt a moment’s remorse for their tyrannical leader, but to Solan’s frustration, neither were they willing to appoint Mendocian’s killer as his successor. Sensing the power struggle was about to get bloody and ruthless, Solan cut his losses, crammed as much of the gang’s loot into his backpack as would fit, and headed north towards Rostland.

Appearance & Personality:

Solan is a tall, wiry Varisian with thick, curly black hair and dusky skin. He has a weasely face, and his dark eyes gleam beneath thick frowning eyebrows that greet each other over the bridge of his crooked nose. He walks with a cocksure swagger (though he knows when to skulk when it’s good for him) that belies his overconfidence in himself. He’s an ambitious man, but he’s learning that allies can get him places he can’t reach on his own. Whether these allies should trust him for longer than it takes to put an arrow to a string and draw it back is another matter.

Liberty's Edge

@ Abadar - Good or Neutral please. I know evil can be fun to play and can be played well by some, but I would rather just stick to good or neutral for my first time out.

Dotting for interest. I'd like to submit Carlin Dell - Gnome Paladin. I will put backstory and statistics on my character profile after work tonight.

Vaho is a brass dragon sorcerer that I used as an NPC in a different campaign that I would really like to play.

Background:
As a child, Vaho had listened to the stories his mother would tell him of ancient dragons and how, long ago, a dragon prince had fallen in love with a human woman. The dragon would visit her in human form every day and court her. They eventually fell in love and had a child, a distant relative of Vaho. As he grew up, he noticed that his skin, no matter what season it was, always had a vague brass tint to it. An adventuring party passed through town one day and the arcanist in the group noticed that Vaho might have something inside him. I only took a few hours for the old man to teach Vaho how to focus is arcane power. The old man told Vaho that he would be leaving soon, but if he wanted more training, to meet him to the south in the stolen lands. Later the next year, Vaho found himself in a small trading post talking to Oleg and looking for his brief and former teacher.

Appearance and Personality:
Vaho is a young male human with brass tinted skin and dark black hair. Strong and tough, he has a rough exterier with a heart of gold. He also likes burning things, but only if they deserve it.

Stats:
My character sheet is at home, but basically a focus on Str/Con/Dex and melee and fire spells eventually headed for dragon disciple. CG.

I'll submit Vesaana for this, background and stats are on her profile. I have her as CN Alignment but can easily go with CG. The way I've conceptualized her is between the two.

Let me know if you need anything else with this submission; I can tweak whatever's needed too.

EDIT: Just read closer and saw only base classes/races. Will re-skin this then, but still interested. I'll get this done by the closing time.

Thanks for taking this on!

I have modified my previous character, creating a new background and altering the race and stats - You did not indicate starting gold, so I went with what I bought according to the last Kingmaker campaign guidelines. Ulryk Lebeda

background:
Ulryk Lebeda is one of the outlying branches of the great Brevik house. The fifth son of a fourth born son, early one he knew that their would be little in the way of inheritance or easy decadence in his future. His father was a proud, if simple man, who emphasised the responsibility of the nobility and the glory to be found in battle. His father was a honest man, but he had his faults - drink and gambling being the most prominant. Though the family was never truly destitute, by the time Ulryk was thirteen he understood that he would have to make his own way. Given little training in the way of professional skills, the only thing Ulryk had to fall back on was his formidable strength and combat training. For ten to twelve brutal hours each day he would train with what was available to him, a sword, a soldiers pike, or a battle axe. Though his eldest brother Rolynd had a horse, he would not permit Ulryk to ride or train with it. Rolynd jealously guarded his place as heir and did not wish to see Ulryk outshine him in tournaments or become a knight. By denying him a chance to learn to ride and practice with a lance, Rolynd guarenteed a lack of competition.

Ulryk hated his elder brother for this, but did not press the issue, fearing a fued within his family and what he might do if his temper boiled over. Resigned to the fate of becoming a sergeant or maybe a captain in a local lords retinue, Ulryk focused his training on the pole-arm.

When word came of the charter to explore the Stolen Lands reached Ulryk, he bought a mule and cart and set out at once. Here was his chance to carve out an inheritance and a legacy beyond what his birth had in store for him.

Appearence:
Fierce, chesnut brown seize ones focus when you first look upon Ulryk Lebeda. His round face and full cheeks are covered in a thick cedar brown beard. His mouth is often cast in a frown, but when he smiles it is welcoming and displays his affable nature.

With powerful muscles and broad shoulders, he is dressed in chain with four iron plateguards, a chainmail coif and a spiked helmet. Over this is a simple tabbard bearing his personal heraldic crest a rearing Or (gold) Elk on a field of Vert (green), beneath which are the modified words "Success through toil" -- a alteration of the traditional Lebeda words "Success through grace"

I would like to submit Hranos, an urban barbarian, for this campaign. I need to complete some details like skills, equipment etc. but his concept is done.

Personality:

Spoiler:
Hranos is a cheerful, exuberant youth who wants to seek adventure in the Stolen Lands. He would not be very enthusiastic about any administrative tasks required for establishing a holding but probably does not think that far ahead in any event.

He is a barbarian in the sense that his fighting style is centered on offense and deficient in defense. I would probably take some levels in fighter if he is chosen and if he advances.

Worked on my profile but:

*Still have to do my equipment: as i have chosen the "poverty striken" trait, how much money do i start with?

*Have done my backstory, but do you feel it needs something more? Im not totally happy with it myself..

*Can i change the "knowledge-Nobility" to "Knowledge-Local" to reflect Hadin's ties with the commoners?

I'd like to submit Rufus "Bastion" Elanwright, a Hungry Ghost Monk for this campaign.

Appearance:
At one of the tavern's tables you see a rotund man, barely managing to fit on the unfortunate stool below him. He's wearing a bright ensemble of all sorts of loud, colorful clothes and sports an array of fine rings, as well as a large golden hoop earring on one ear.
His voice is about an octave above what one would expect, and it cuts through the din of the roar of tavern chatter -- that is, when it's not interrupted by deep gulps of ale, and relentless bites of biscuits, roasted meats, and cake.

Suddenly, things get rowdy at a nearby table and an empty pitcher is sent careening in the large man's direction. With surprising speed he manages to deflect the pitcher with a meaty hand. The table goes quiet in awe. The silence is broken when he finishes chewing and lets out a hearty laugh. The table joins in and they resume their merrymaking.

Background:
Rufus "Bastion" Elanwright was born as the youngest of four sons to a Taldoran noble family. From a young age he developed a love for the more material pleasures in life; such as food, clothing, drink, and jewelry. While his older siblings were learning about ancient battle tactics, how to wield a blade, or even dabbling in spellcraft, Rufus skipped his classes and could be found raiding the pantry or being pampered by the family servants.

"The blood runs thinner with each successive child" his father, a harshly pragmatic man, would always say, and Rufus only further encouraged his belief. Eventually his father became fed up with the boy as well as eager to try anything that would transform this excuse for a son into someone worthy of inheriting his name. He hastily enrolled Rufus in a nearby monastery and sent him off, hoping he'd come back with some discipline.

However, in his haste, Rufus' father didn't bother checking the credentials of the Master there, nor did he perform much investigation. When Rufus was dumped off at the monastery under the mountain, he was greeted by a handful of pupils and his master; a pale-skinned monk with a wicked smile. "You have an insatiable hunger and thirst inside of you, my student. I can teach you how to use it."

Ten years later, Rufus emerged from underneath the monastery under the mountain, a new man. Instead of returning to his family though, he ventured off into the world, hoping he could find a way to use his new abilities and prove himself worthy to his father. While his voracious taste for food and beverage is as large as ever (as is his waist size), his fighting ability is exceptional and he possesses a newly forged discipline.

He quickly heard of the expedition to the Stolen Lands during his travels, and eagerly seeked out Oleg, seeing this as just the opportunity he needed to prove himself.

Do you think I need more backstory? I generally feel that least is more especially when the Players guide gives so little background information. I tried to tie his story to the Tiger Lords.

Hi Alexander...your back story is good as is...add more if you want...I like involved back stories, but in no way will they hinder you in my choice! Ibery had one sentice that made me laugh out loud!! IN his case I might want a wee bit more..lol I will try and do a sum up of what people have sent me so far a little later tonight, but all in all it looks very good!!

The trait does not actually say, but I think 1/2 starting money might be in order..what do you think??

Don't get too hung up on your background...I like that is kinda sound like a book I once read...a simple farmer becoming a paladin...but by all means, if you want to make it a work in progress, fell free.

Go ahead and change it...make more sense that way for your character..

I would like to offer up Girf Hallisp, all his info is in the profile.

Submitting Brigid, a human fighter (focusing on archery) .

Yer big doofy party'll face ol' Groety laters than sooners if'n ya don't bring ol' Nubs along. *spits*

@Daniel Stewart: after looking at it, I came to conclusion that re-skinning Vesanna wouldn't work so well here. So you can drop her off the list.

INSTEAD, I'm going to work up a good ol' fashioned human cleric (looks like we don't have one of those yet), but will throw in a couple of shots of Tabasco by making her a whip-wielding priestess of Calistria! She'll be able to cover down on healing, face skills and a little bit of combat support. I'll work up a backstory and crunch in the next couple days.

Question about this though: would you allow alternate domains from PF books past core? If not no biggie but I'd figure I'd ask.

@Daniel Stewart: i'm totally fine with half the starting money (so that's 150 GP out of 300, if memory serves well).
What do you think about the change of area of Knowledge (Local instead of Nobility)?

@Daniel Stewart: This is Secondsight, here's my replacement PC.

Presenting Svetlana Orlovsky, Priestess of Calistria. Your healing never felt so good! Background and stats are on the profile, subject to DM approval.

At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. Inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance

Background:

Growing up, Zarzutor was fascinated with the storytellers that would visit his town. They would share stories of grand adventure and epic encounters. He was led to believe that the more you know, the better stories you could tell. So he began his adventure to learn everything he could, and to create his own stories.

While trading some new tales with a fellow bard he met, he learrned of these expeditions out into the Stolen Lands and made his way as fast as he could to join one of them. What better way to learn new stories than to live them yourself.

Liberty's Edge

Yup..sorry that was not clear...thanks Vladimir!!

I'll submit Artur Medvyed, an Inquisitor of Erastil.

Background
Artur is the third son of an insignificant branch of the Medvyed family. Realistically, they are little more than farmers with a title. Artur's father manages one of the smaller farms in the Medvyed estates but with only two employees, he is often required to assist in the back-breaking labour required to keep the farm going.

This taught the young Artur a valuable lesson; there really is very little between the nobles and so-called 'peasants'. As a farming family, they fervently pray to Erastil and given his lack of options for advancement within the family, Artur elected to join the Church of Erastil.

He found that he lacked the requisite patience to study the Parables of Erastil in order to become a cleric of the god but his strength in arm and better than average aim permitted him to join the Inquisitors, the branch of the church that protected the community at large. It is here that Artur has made his home and he very much enjoys the sense of safety he can bring to these simple folks.

However, now he finds his attention turned south towards the Stolen Lands. The Swordlords of Brevoy seek to make the lands their own, albeit by proxy, and the Church of Erastil are concerned that it might through the balance of nature awry. Artur has been dispatched to ensure that this does not come to pass and that any towns or cities that are founded there give due consideration to their relationship with nature.

The Exchange

Hi Daniel!

Thinking of submitting a Dwarven Oracle of Stone who is a miner by trade. Did I miss something though? Your first post had stated that it was to be "base" The classes only, and and I wanted to confirm that classes from the APG were ok?

-Celeador

Liberty's Edge

@Celeador
If the class is listed as base, then it is ok...that does include those classes in the APG (see page 26)

I am submitting a Forlorn Elf, Altael for review.

Altael's Profile

Submitting Lem Bander, halfling Underfoot Adept monk with the fleet of foot alternate racial trait (gives him a 30 ft land speed rather than 20 feet), pending your approval of course.

Crunch is there in the profile.

His backstory is that he's a former servant of an Orlovsky family noble who won enough favor in the family to be given the gold to make the journey to study with a famous monk, now a hermit in southern Brevoy. He completed his initial training--in which he became adept at working against opponents larger than himself--and now seeks to eventually found a monastic order and build his own monastery.

Lem is a scout type, using his fast speed and Stealth for that purpose, and during combat he will use combat maneuvers (especially trip) to bring down opponents for easier butt-kicking. :)
