Two actually, if I'm not mistaken. Other than Happs' mount, the bandits had four, of which only three you took with you in your expedition due to Castor already riding Capella (I take it this fourth one is the one you're referring to, Rufus). Then there's Xelani's, given her by her Pioneer trait (but you would probably know of her existence only by looking at her character sheet).

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

Yeah, I wasn't sure about the fourth horse from the bandits. Xelani's horse is news to me, though, haha.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

The earrings and the music box seems like a lot of gold value to expend on items that won't be of much use to us, this early on.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

I'm probably mistaken, but I don't remember anyone claiming dibs on the earrings – I think they can be sold freely.

Regarding the music box, 90 gps divided by 5 would only net us 18 gps each – not that much in the grand scheme of things, even at 1st level. I think it'd be a nice RP touch for us to keep it. Then again, I don't have strong feelings about this so I'm perfectly willing to go with the majority on this particular matter.

That said, how does the following list look to you guys?

Keep:
Weapons & Armor
Composite Longbow (+2 Str)
Short Sword
Longbow x3
60 Arrows
Studded Leather Armor

Potions & Consumables
Alchemist Fire x2
Potion of CLW x2
Potion of SoF +2
Potion (unidentified)

Miscellaneous Goods
Stag Amulet
Music Box

Cash
1050gp 1sp

Sell:
Weapons & Armor
Short Sword x4
Dagger x6
mwk Axes x2
Longbow x2
Shortbow
40 Arrows
Light Crossbow
20 Bolts
Leather Armor x5

Miscellaneous Goods
Silver Earrings
Crate of Furs and Hides x6
Bottle of Liquor x8

Order:
Catapult parts (50gp)
Spikes, oil, assorted masonry equipment (?gp)
Light horses (with combat saddles) x2 (190gp)

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

I like Xelani's lists.

I like and am in agreement with Rufus' like of Xelani's lists.

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

I approve of Korinne's agreement with Rufus's like of Xelani's lists.

Overland Map

The motion has passed :D

Also, the Spikes, oil, assorted masonry equipment is 50 gp.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

So this is a breakdown of the selling values of the items we've decided not to keep (full price for treasure, half for weapons etc.):

Silver Earrings 150gp
Crate of Furs and Hides x6 300gp
Bottle of Liquor x8 160gp
Short Sword x4 20gp
Dagger x6 6gp
mwk Axe x2 306gp
Longbow x2 75gp
Shortbow 15gp
40 Arrows 1gp
Light Crossbow 17,5gp
20 Bolts 0,5gp
Leather Armor x5 25gp

Total 1076gp

This is what we're ordering:

Catapult parts 50gp
Spikes, oil, assorted masonry equipment 50gp
Light horses (with combat saddles) x2 190gp

Total 290gp

If my math is correct, that would put us at 786 gp in remaining store credit and 1050 gp 1 sp in cash money.

Question (mostly aimed at (GM)^2): is it worth it from a pragmatical point of view to keep track of the two things (cash and store credit) separately? Or does the Stolen Lands economic system basically begin and end with Oleg, to the point of making them practically interchangeable? If it's the latter, we might even entertain the notion of using Oleg as a sort of bank (which might in turn prelude to having him filling the role of Treasurer later on – I don't foresee anyone of us being particularly keen on taking on that particular position, of course I might be mistaken!). What do you guys think?

On a partially related note: how about, instead of keeping track of rations and similar things, use the cost of living rule and have Oleg simply deduct 50gp each month from our cumulative store credit in exchange for simply providing with such things whenever we need to and leaving their management in the background? Unless he has already volunteered to simply sponsor us, that is (with the reinvigorated commerce our mere presence has brought to his trading post more than covering his expenses).

One last thing and I'm done boring you (I promise ;) ): do you think that, with the bartering stuff now behind us, we can just freeze Alayi's interaction and be ready to depart in search of this Bokken? If so, GM^2 can put up a post describing the consequences of us exploring the B7 hex if and when he so wishes...

Overland Map

Generally speaking, I have no issues with anything that you mentioned.

Oleg is sort of the go to shop for buying/selling, mostly due to his place being the only real shop that is available. Of course, as the campaign progresses this will change drastically but for now he is the be all end all of trading, sans the soon to be introduced Bokken and maybe a few other opportunities here and there.

Don't worry about keeping the store credit and cash separate. Just assume that if you need the cash, you got it from Oleg as a safety precaution wherever you go. Anything bought from Oleg comes from the cash reserve. "Store credit" is sorta a synonym for cash in this case.

I'm find with using the cost of living rule and give you guys a break by having Oleg reduce the cost to 25gp a month. We'll had wave the discussion for time sakes but you did help him out and his post will definitly see more use from your presence. He still isn't exactly rolling in the money and supplies can be a little hard to come by so he still charges you.

All of the above works for me. It's not quite been a week since Alayi last posted; I'm guessing he's probably still pretty busy IRL.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

I hope our good Duke's schedule becomes more relaxed sooner rather than later. Alayi's a fun character to play with, and if we have to wait a little a bit to have her back into the group, it's surely going to be worth it.

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

Once again, I like just about everything our Paladin presented (perhaps especially the part about Oleg assuming the treasurer role if we survive that long).
I realize I tend to bog things down with my quest for verisimilitude, but actual accounting has never really been my strong point.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

Agreed. As a rule of thumb, if I find it boring IRL, I surely don't want to spend any more time role-playing it (accounting and keeping track of consumables being prominent examples).

@GM^2: I'm all for hand waving it. Indeed, I like to think that most things that transpired here are actually paraphrases of debates which have been discussed in some measure by our characters, if only behind the curtains.

Hey guys, just letting you know that I AM around. Just been dealing with a lot of stuff and have a bit of some writers block that I'm trying to get around >.<

I should have something up by tomorrow. Sorry for the delay.

It's fine, GMGM. Take your time and take care of what you need to take care of IRL; I'm pretty sure we'll all still be here when you feel up to writing again :)

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

Final exams are running me ragged, so I have no issue with a temporary slowdown. Take all the time you need to care for what troubles you.

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

With the holidays, and as Castor mentioned other seasonal events, it is not uncommon for posting to slow down around this time. I do appreciate you giving us notice of what is going on however GmGM.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

Exactly. No-one signed a contract, and it would certainly defy the whole purpose of the game to have to post against one's will. If anything, as Rufus said it was nice of you to let us know!

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

Ok. My new job starts tomorrow. As I mentioned earlier, I have to get up quite a bit earlier than I have been for some time & won't be able to check things online until I get out of work in the afternoon/evening. Consequently, my posting is likely only going to be in the evenings except some times during the weekends.

Inactive

Good luck with the new job!

Regarding the potion thing, I'm fine with not buying anything right now; it would probably eat a good chunk of the group funds to buy or order most of what he can make anyway. And yeah, it seems like a Cure wand is a better investment if a group has the money and is in a position to buy one.

Anyhoo, I hope everyone is enjoying or looking forward to whatever holiday festivities they like to engage in. I'm also looking forward to getting back into the swing of things a little more once things settle down after the holidays - I like you guys that much, it seems ;)

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

Good luck with the new job, Rufus!

Sorry for being slow to post as of late. I'm neck-deep in finals.

Today is the last one, though, so I should be good to go for a while afterwards.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

Indeed, good luck to the both of you, Castor and Rufus, for your finals and your new job!

I hope everybody's enjoying the festivities – like you, Korinne, I'm also counting on my posting getting far less erratic once they're over.

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

While still a ways away, I am contemplating character advancement options once more, particularly since the last time I made this inquiry it was with our original GM. GmGM, I had been contemplating eventually taking up the Battle Herald Prestige class with this character, particularly as our Bard is less a 'group buff' than an 'I'm awesome!' type. When I asked Pungeon Master about whether the Versatile Performance class ability would mean I could consider ranks in Perform Oratory also fulfilled the ranks in Diplomacy requirement, he said it would be acceptable. Will that be alright with you as well?

On a related note, I was looking over Skald as an alternative to Bard & it does everything I want it to, with one possible exception. The Raging Song class ability gives me Inspiring Rage instead of Inspire Courage at first level & none of the other Raging Song abilities really come any closer. This is going to be completely your decision as GM, but would you consider it a close enough fit to fulfill the Inspire Courage Prerequisite of Battle Herald?

Male Half-Elf Cleric/Ranger(Guide) 1

While we are on the subject of prestige classes, I should bring mine up as well.

I am planning on taking Castor into the Evangelist prestige class, as seen here: Evangelist.
Reference to the Desna-specific abilities of the Evangelist

Do I have your approval?

Hey folks, there's something I've been curious about since I started doing the whole PBP thing but haven't been able to find any real discussion on or the etiquette involved and that's the topic of relationships/sex, both NPC/PC and PC/PC. Awhile back it occurred to me that I might want to decide on what my own personal comfort level is with this since people *do* occasionally play flirty characters or characters who are open to finding love and/or a good roll in the hay during the course of their adventures.

I've seen some discussion about handling NPC/PC relationships from a GM's perspective and I imagine those are probably easier to manage since all the GM really has to do is throw the option out there and let the PC(s) respond to it or not *or* put something in for PCs who have stated in-character or out that they're looking for that sort of thing.

The PC-PC thing is trickier, though. If any of you have taken that route with a character, have you just let it happen organically or was there a behind-the-scenes discussion to make sure that the other player would be cool with it and if so, what the in-character boundaries needed to be? I'm asking this across several of the games I'm in because if I ever make a character who would go that route or if one of my existing ones decides to try her luck with someone, I don't want to commit some sort of PBP faux pas or come across as creepy about it since there isn't the same level of familiarity with other posters that you have with a regular RL group :)

Overland Map

Rufus, as I may have mentioned before, I stand by Pungeon Masters decision. Not that my choice would have been any different just saying ;)

Also, since the Skald is basically a bard, I'm fine with Inspire Rage fitting the Inspire Courage Prerequisite.

Castor, I'm fine with that as well :)

Korinne, I've never really gone with exploring a relationship with other characters. It's just not something I have personally been interested in. However, if I wanted to, I would think that I would attempt to maybe get a feel for a particular character the jives correctly with my character and then privately message that person and ask if they are in agreement. Coming out of the blue(which can sometimes happen over play by post) may make some people uncomfortable. Just my 2 cents though ;)

Also, I haven't really posted to congratulate due to my current life chaoticness but grats to Rufus on the job and I hope everyone's events have gone well. If I don't get the opportunity to post again before the day, I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas or whatever particular holiday you wish to observe.

Female Half-elf Paladin 2 (Divine Hunter) | HP 15/15 {effects: none} | AC 17 (Tch 12 FF 15) | F +7, R +6, W +7 (+2 vs. Ench.) | Init +2 | Perc +5, low-light vision

@Korinne: it's never quite happened to me yet, but I applaud your bringing up such a topic publicly and openly. Better for such things to be spelled out early than risking future embarrassing faux pas or, worse yet, forcing someone in a situation he feels uncomfortable with just because he doesn't want to be the "spoilsport" to someone else's role-playing.

Personally, I consider myself a very separate entity from the PCs I'm playing. To me, role-playing feels very much like writing/reading about a character in a novel; from this point of view, I have no qualms about him/her engaging in romantic relations (provided they're well-written and tasteful, of course), just as I wouldn't be bothered by stumbling upon such a thing across one of my readings. However, I also fully understand the stance of those who feel a deeper psychological connection to their characters, and consider any attempt at mixing role-playing with romance an unpleasant intrusion into their comfort zone.

In our particular context, I'd say Xelani is not actively looking for companionship at the moment, and is instead focused on the task at hand. However, should the occasion present itself, she wouldn't be completely opposed to the idea, and would give proper consideration to any potential suitor. Obviously, as an Erastilian, she'd be looking for a devout partner able to make a long-lasting commitment.

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

Oddly enough, in another PbP I play on these boards, I almost wound up spontaneously initiating a PC/PC 'romance', or at least 'fling'. In my defense, we had only just squeaked through what was looking to be a TPK (and which my character was fairly certain was going to kill everyone), due to the heroism of one PC. As both our characters were Kellids & we had been playing Kellids very much in the R. Howard's Conan 'mold', I almost made a 'to the victor go the spoils' comment, but somebody else posted before I did & I riffed off theirs instead.
I've generally felt that Romance & Families were at least an implicit 'background' aspect of Kingmaker; after all, if you are going for an hereditary aristocracy, which the Kingdom Leadership roles at least suggest, you need to provide an heir...
As far as my personal comfort level goes...
Anything a person would be comfortable with in a reasonably public place, goes. If you wouldn't feel comfortable with the activity out where anyone might encounter it, it is likely better to 'fade to black' so-to-speak.

All that said, Rufus is literally a Bastard & his first love/sexual partner is of a race that is literally less than half his body mass...
Not much shocks him. I don't shock easily either.

Inactive

@Xelani - Thanks for the vote of support; I had mixed feelings about bringing it up in the first place (and still sorta do) but you'll never know if you don't ask, I suppose. I probably should have clarified that my own personal comfort level lies around the PG13 rating, which seems to be a pretty consistent comfort level for most based on the response I've gotten in the other discussion threads I've posed this to. This was mainly a "have you done this and if so, how did it work out" sort of query. As for Korinne, there's a couple of different ways I could see her feeling about the matter, so we'll see (or not) how the game progresses :)

Rufus Fitzroi wrote:

That's actually really interesting; I've never seen a huge amount of interest in the short races (most of my gaming group play elves) to begin with and especially not any relationship stuff.

At any rate, thanks for humoring me and my questions :)

In other news, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and the like! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and that you receive your heart's desire, whether it's something material or something less tangible. And for those that find this time of year to be difficult, hang in there - it's almost over.

Male Human (Kellid/Varisian) Cavalier (Standard Bearer)/Skald 4/1 [ HP: 38/38 | AC: 15 T: 12 FF: 14 | F: +7 R: +2 W: +3/+4 | Init: +1 Perc: -1 | Effects: Raging Song (Inspired Rage)]

I could just be weird, but Halfling's & Goblins are among my favorite races. The idea of a human/Halfling romance was kind of the result of both the passage in Halflings of Golarion mentioning the small community in Kaer Maga of human/Halfling pairings, that and one of my favorite artists had a picture of a young human man & Halfling woman sitting on a ruined wall talking, and they were just too cute.
So I figured it would make for an interesting quirk if Rufus' first love was a Halfling & that relationship had an effect on why he did what he did later in life.

Yes, happy holidays everyone!

So.

I was informed today that my Mother, with whom I have had a tumultuous relationship & only just recently were we on anything resembling 'good' terms, died.

I'm afraid I am going to have to ask you to 'bot' me for a while, Gm GM.

I agree with Xelani and Korinne. It's nice to have you back, Rufus.

Also, I have rope, you guys. It's on my horse. I was expecting someone to ask about it if it was needed to climb down.

I'm not entirely sure why Korinne didn't take ten on that climb, by the way. :P

I think we initially opted for short trips to clear out some of the closer hexes and then we can extend our stays out in the field as we explore the further hexes, right? So after 3 days out, heading back to Oleg's to check in might not be a bad idea. Also, I think we've probably lost Alayi as their player doesn't seem to have checked in with any of their games (and at least one is actively seeking a replacement). When we head back, perhaps she could opt to stay behind and help oversee the former bandits or something; that way her player can still return to the game if they're ever able or willing to.
