You once again unfurl the scroll tucked carefully into your belt, reading it over carefully one final time.

"Be it so known that the bearer of this charter has been charged
by the Swordlords of Restov, acting upon the greater good and
authority vested within them by the office of the Regent of the
Dragonscale Throne, has granted the right of exploration and travel
within the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. Exploration
should be limited to an area no further than thirty-six miles east and
west and sixty miles south of Oleg’s Trading Post. The carrier of
this charter should also strive against banditry and other unlawful
behavior to be encountered. The punishment for unrepentant banditry
remains, as always, execution by sword or rope. So witnessed on this
24th day of Calistril, under watchful eye of the Lordship of Restov
and authority granted by Lord Noleski Surtova, current Regent of
the Dragonscale Throne."

Hard to believe it was just a couple days ago. "Four of you have been chosen to restore order and establish our presence in the Greenbelt. Of late, the spread of bandits and worse have been a never ending thorn in our side. Three days south east of here lies Oleg's trading post. Your companions are being dispatched by their lords as we speak . ."

Your Carriage drivers voice breaks your concentration.“Well, there she is. Finest trading post in all of the Greenbelt. Mind you, there is not much by way of competition for that position." Your carriage pulls up outside the trading posts and the driver and his son start quickly unloading some supplies "Not many fur this month"the drivers boy says as they both loads furs on and crates off

Looking up into the sky, the sun appears to be almost directly overhead. A cold wind rises from the south. Winter is coming. From atop the moderately wooded hill, you have an excellent view of the Greenbelt. To the south planes roll for miles and miles in all directions. A forest can be seen to the southwest, and far to the south you notice a bright silver sheen, no doubt sunlight playing off a distant lake. In the distance to the west you can make out snow dusted mountains.

You all travelled to the outpost together so you can role play on the journey if you like

The beautiful sorceress Kalima Raustald traveled a long way from her homeland of Taldor to reach the wilderness region known as the Greenbelt. In her search fr employment she had come across this job offer. Before her departure she had made sure to get the proper paperwork in order from the Office of the Regent of the Dragonscale Throne. Bureaucracy was such a bore but it was a good idea in her mind to make sure she would not get into any altercations with the local authorities.

The life of an adventurer had been hard on Kalima, having been fed a silver spoon throughout much of her life. But a far better profession than dragging one's heels in the mud with peasant work, earning nought but coppers a day and a meal on the table for one's troubles. Indeed, if there was a way to make a living outside the establishment, adventuring is the way to go. And this would be her first great adventure in the wide world.

The call out for aid against the banditry in the region seemed like a worthy enough cause. Such crimes affected the well-being of the people in the area and if those responsible could be brought to justice, the region would become safer for the citizens there. Of course her aid would not come without payment from those with the coin to hire her for the job.

The travel to Oleg's Trading Post, was fairly uneventful but exhausting nonetheless. Miles of travel by boat, cart and footwork took its toll on Kalima but she persevered long enough to eventually reach the trading post. Before entering the grounds, she made sure to duck behind some croppings and change her clothing into more courtier attire. After all first impressions were important.

She enters the outpost after greeting those who tended to the place cordially and then proceeds to retire to the local inn locale to set up some lodgings for the night and arrange a meal.

As for Kalima Raustald's appearance, she has brown well kept hair, a slightly tanned skin tone and chocolate brown eyes and stands at 5"8. She has a slender but attractive figure to her and definitely does not have the look of someone whose worked hard in their life. Currently she's dressed in a courtier's outfit, a beautiful red and white dress of the more noble-style fashion, although as its been stuffed in her backpack for a while, it does have a few creases here and there. After putting down her backpack and taking a moment to catch her breath, she addresses those in the tavern.

"Oh hello there fellow travelers. Allow me to introduce myself. I am Kalima Raustald of the kingdom of Taldor. I have traveled far to be in this outpost and I am hoping someone here will be able to tell me more about these lands and the events that are occurring. I had heard that bandits were running rapid across this region of late. Brutish individuals that they are, I have high hopes that something can be done to quell their tide and bring peace to this region."

Lialda's eyelids fluttered as she awoke to the sound of the cart drivers gruff voice, had she really managed to sleep the entire journey? She felt momentarily embarrassed for not even having introduced herself to the travelers she was to spending the next few weeks with, but she pushed it to the back of her mind, there would be plenty of time for that. Lialda watched her companions descend from the carriage one by one, and tried to figure them out; the only one who really caught her eye was a young slip of a girl who looked as if she'd never worked a day in her life, she was pretty enough, but what on earth was she doing headed South to fight bandits? But then, she supposed others probably thought similarly about her, an aging half elf who's spent her life in a temple? Not exactly ideal adventuring material, she wasn't even sure herself if she was cut out for the job, but it was what Calistria willed, and for that reason she would give it her best shot. She didn't need the faith of her companions, as long as she had the faith of her Goddess.

Lialda held the carriage drivers hand softly as she thanked him, smiling grasiously,
"And thank you too!" she nodded to his son earnestly before heading into the trading post. She had only been outside for a moment, but even so it was a relief to be out of the wind, suddenly she felt a panging for the temple's large warm beds, covered in soft yellow silks, she had the distinct feeling she wouldn't be feeling warmth like that for a while. She tried her best to flatten her creased robes against her slender body, the wooden symbol of Calistria sitting snugly between her breasts, a constant reminder of the life she had left behind, as well as her reason for facing the challenges ahead. She removed her heavy satchel from her back and placed it on the floor by her feet.
"Hello?" She called into the trading post, "My name is Lialda, I have just arrived with a group of other travelers, we've been sent by The Swordlords of Restov, I believe you are expecting us?"
She tapped her foot nervously, and a little impatiently as she waited for an answer.

Hey guys I'm really sorry about this but two of the people I recruited haven't posted I'm trying to get hold of them or I'll post in recruitment to see if I can get two more. I'm really sorry about this

Raegun's presence fills the carriage with the smell of wet dog.

The orc leers at the other passages, chewing sticky black tobacco that congeals to his fanged teeth. Two vicious looking hounds are draped over his lap, a stocky square-jawed mastiff and a clumpy-furred setter. The vicious looking dogs are surprisingly docile at the half-orc's touch, and begin to snore and paw at the air as the journey goes on. At some point in the journey his setter relieves himself onto a pile of expensive sabel furs, but the heavily armed half-orc needs only to answer the driver's curses with narrowed eyes to bully him into silence. Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22

Raegun hardly speaks for the entire journey, he does not think the gathering will bother to learn his name, but barks back as Kalima addresses him. "Brutish, eh?" Raegun says, spitting a gob of black sludge onto the carriage floor. "'bout right... Die as easy as any other, though." Apparently the extent of his expertise on the subject, Raegun falls back into his surly silence.

Raegun sweeps himself from the carriage, thanklessly helps to unload the cart, although he handles the cargo so roughly that the crates splinter as they hit the ground. He stomps up to the door beside Lialda and begins to hammer on it with his fist. "Oleg, you maggot. Open this door! Don't like being kept waiting..."

OOC:
Sorry about the wait, as I mentioned in my PM I've only just now returned to Sydney from my camping trip but I'm ready to get up to speed. I'd suggest creating a discussion thread for the campaign rather than messaging us all individually. But don't fret about getting the game rolling. We're all as keen as you are, I expect. If there's anything I can do to help seeing as you mentioned you were new to the PbP scene don't hesitate to ask.

To the others, nice to meet you all. I hope we have a brilliant time gaming together. As you can see Raegun's manners are something of a work in progress, but he's spent a fair bit of time traversing the Stolen Lands and can probably serve as a guide (at least, once I take some Knowledge (local) ranks). He's a nasty brutish drunk, but I'm interested to see what the rest of the party can shape him into and bring out in his personality. The idea of a refined Taldan aristocrat trying to teach him manners sounds like bloody good fun, if you ask me.

A hooded individual sits with the group, fairly quiet, not wishing to wake the sleeping one, cringing slightly at the half-ork's outbursts lest the elfish girl wake. His satchel lies on the floor, the hilt of a blaster seen, shaped in a cloak.

He takes a sip from a Stein at his hip, and extends the correct to the half-ork. Strong stuff. Sip lightly. assuming Raegun ignores the warning and tried to quaffe the whole thing, he gets a swig of Dwarven ale That was brewed to put a fully grown dwarf alcoholic right to bed, more like hard liquor than ale. Good eh?

After the ride, he replies to Kalima, Evard d'Garess, m'lady. What brings you here with such a task as ours?

Kalima Raustald gives a look to Evard d'Garess and says, "Why the righteous cause of adventure of course that draws me here good sir. Within my veins lies the power of Elysium. I can summon beasts from realms beyond our own and wield the awesome power of magic through my fingertips. Such will be a grand asset to the cause of bringing to heel the banditry in this region. Perhaps we can capture a few alive as well and sentence them to some well deserved Indentured Servitude to help work off the damage they've inflicted on this outpost as well as numerous travelers no doubt."

But it is an honor to have been allowed the opportunity to bring order and justice to this land. I am but a simple fighter. A guard who's ward has outgrown him and would do better with masters of the blade than an unassuming, caretaker," cracking his knuckles, a disconcerting half-grin showing from under his cowl.

He pulls back his hood and looks around through hard, icy eyes, flat expression as he observes the trading post. His features are hard, sculpted (not by an artist tho), skin too bronzed hair an unnatural off-white and piercing green eyes that don't fit with the rest of him. The celestial sorceress may recognize the familiar extraplanar blood showing through this scarred man's veins, but he was certainly not blessed with a celestial countenance nor voice fit for the choirs of the heavens.

While Kalima is not overly well versed in planar knowledge, she can tell outworldly signs of outsider heritage when she sees it.

"Ah, another touched by the power of the planes I see. My heritage is far more distant than yours though. One of my ancestors was a being known as a Lillend who had taken a mortal lover. In turn sorcerers have spontaneously appeared in my mothers side of the family at various intervals. Still, in Taldor, magic use is quite common among the nobility. Those not born with natural magical talent often study wizard magic as a means to exercise the mind."

"Hmmm, never heard of a Lillend, but they must be lovely. I myself know not how distant my inhuman ancestry is, not of what sort, seeing as I'm ugly as my father and grew in my mother's belly, it were not a direct ancestor. Are you yourself one such noble who would have studied your book-magic had yea not been born with it, or is your pedigree purely arcane in nature rather than political?" he asks, his lack of inflection not giving a hint of any real opinion or judgement regarding any answer about Kalima's background.

GM, there are different takes on aasimar, in terms of wether or not they are long-lived or age as humans. Do you have a preference or can we play as we like. I kinda think of Evard as long lived not as much as an elf but more like a dwarf.

Raegun accepts the offered ale, quaffing down a large mouthful, mopping at his black beard. Rather than return the mug he takes another long gulp, grinning as he presses the mug back into Evard's hands. "woof... Dwarf brew. Not bad." he belches. "They don't serve you nothing like that with a face like this, stranger. Only watered down backwash and spoiled meat."

"Raegun." he grunts, pushing past the stranger to see to the cargo. "Thank you for the drink."

Evard nods as the Half-Ork takes a second swig. "Nor with a face like mine, but somehow we make do" he says before taking another sip from the large stein, clamping the lid shut and smiling as the liquor settles. "Don't worry, no backwash here. Not right to swallow all the booze you drink."

Edit: Kalima
Indeed. Mine is skill in battle, though I've mostly had the privilege of testing my mettle against petty lordlings and their pet assassins. Nothing to qualify as a monster, as such. Not yet at least. Evard says, as he unhitches a Bardiche from the side of the wagon they road in on.

Because if the second situation occurs I may have a plan of attack that should minimize the loss of life."

She lets the words sink in and she then says, "You see if we engage the bandits on an open field they will have many venues of mobility, attack and escape, especially if they have mounts. However if they think nothing is wrong they will dismount their horses and come inside the Outpost to get their booty. Once in an enclosed area of the Outpost, we can spring a trap. If they're close together I could knock out a good deal of them with a single spell. Any who are not taken down we can surround and cut off their escape and disable in traditional combat."

Once we extract the information we need from the survivors I propose we give them a sentence known in Taldor as "Indentured Servitude". Now I know you are going to think it is some kind of slavery, it is nothing of the sort. Think of it as a sentence of Hard Labour for crimes done. The perpetrators are put to work making reparations for the damage they've caused. Once they've sufficiently earned enough to repay their debts, their keeper is obligated to give them their freedom. Sorry for the delay guys, was traveling to Glasgow last night!

Lialda had gratefully accepted the food and drink her host had prepared, but remained quiet as her companions discussed battle. She didn't like the grave detail they went into, pain had always made her feel uncomfortable. It wasn't until the gruff man in the hood addressed her directly that she was able to align her thoughts, though she was less than impressed with his manner, she raised an eyebrow and forced a smile.
"That's right Evard. I have some healing knowledge, I trained in the temple of Calistria, she's a constant presence in my life, and I can channel her energy, when necessary." And she had a feeling, it would be necessary sooner rather than later. Lialda folded her legs and sipped on her ale, it was bitter, but she didn't complain. The gravity of the situation she had landed herself in had just dawned on her, Svetlana's story was harrowing, and frankly she was terrified. She could only hope that the people around her could do more than just talk about their muscles, still, the idea of hurting, even killing other people didn't sit well with her. No matter what they'd done.

Hey guys here is the lay out of Olevs

Olegs out post

A1:
Market Yard: This open area is where trade takes
place. The two tables near the fire pit are used to
display wares and serve food to visitors, while bulky
trade goods are offloaded into the storage pen.

A2:
Guesthouse: Oleg rents out the beds in this
guesthouse to anyone who wishes to stay the night
at a rate of 5 sp a bed per night. A rustic breakfast
and filling dinner is included in that price.

A3:
Stable: Oleg keeps his jittery horse Claptrap here.
He rents out the other stalls to visitors’ steeds at a
rate of 2 sp per stall per night—that price includes a
day’s worth of water and feed and a complimentary
rub down for the horse.

A4:
Storage Pen: This fenced area has a wooden roof to
keep off most of the rain and snow—trade goods like furs and other goods are stored here until
enough build up to warrant a trip to the city to sell
them off. The pen is currently empty, as Oleg’s been
forced to turn over his stock to the bandits.

A5:
Middens: Three 3-foot-deep composting pits and
middens.

A6:
Main Hall: This squat but solid wooden building is
Oleg and Svetlana’s home and the storeroom for the
trading post. The double doors leading out into the
market yard can be barred but not locked.

A7:
Dining Room: This is a comfortable room with a
few chairs and a table—the Levetons use this room
primarily as a dining room.

A8:
Office: This room is where Oleg keeps his ledgers
and meets with important visitors—in theory. As
of yet, no one of importance has bothered visiting
the trading post.

A9:
Stockroom: This room is used to store the trading
post’s stock. The stock currently consists of a suit of leather armor, a heavy wooden shield, two hand
axes, five javelins, a longbow, two dozen arrows, a
scythe, two spears, two potions of cure light wounds,
a potion of shield of faith +2, two vials of antitoxin,
six torches and two weeks of trail rations

A10:
This room contains two barrels of
drinking water, a half-full barrel of lantern oil,
three common lamps, a dozen candles, a week’s
worth of firewood, a hooded lantern, 70 feet of
hemp rope, a tent, and enough food (mostly cheese,
hard bread, and dried venison) to last for 2 weeks.

A11:
Bedroom: This modest bedroom is where the
Levetons sleep.

@Evard "Darruth at your service."

@Kalima He nodded in agreement, "That can work. I am willing to go with it."

Raegun's hounds turn to growl at the beast-man, hackles raised. He yanks on their chains to silence them and sits down in the mud, stroking them behind the ears. He scowls at the others. "My hounds prefer to hunt in an open field, not cowering behind some palisade." he grunts. "... and as a matter of fact, so do I."

Lialda looked at her hands momentarily as Evard mentioned them, he wasn't to know that without Calistria guiding them, her hands would be useless, still, it was a nice compliment, and she prayed that she could live up to it. She smiled at him, genuinely this time;
" I too am glad to be by the side of someone with experience in battle."

She listened to the party as they made their plans for the oncoming fight. She was dubious to follow Kalima's instructions, she couldn't help but feel that someone with more experience in combat should be making the plans. Having said that, she wasn't too keen on the half orc's idea either, it seemed ill thought through, and more like a testosterone fulled play for dominance than an actual plan. She turned to Evard again;
"I know little of these things, but if you think that the Lady Kalima's instructions are sound, then I must trust them too. It seems to me, though I may be wrong, that I should hang back, shoot when I can, and watch for people getting injured?" She then turned to Kalima and eyed her cooly, "I do hope our faith in you is not misplaced.".

Evard allows himself a sigh of relief as the priestess seems mollified, and gives a somewhat formal nod.

"I can understand that Raegun, but in this situation being able to trap them within the compound may allow us to ensure none escape. Although if should they attempt to retreat, you and your hounds ability to chase them down would be invaluable." thinking a moment, "There is nothing cowardly about laying an ambush and catching these wretches with their guards down. Better chances of taking prisoners and getting more invormation to take the fight to them."

Kalima says to Lidlda, "I bear the very powers of the Elysium in my veins Lialda. We shall not fail in our endeavors so long as I am aiding in our endeavors. And I am sure Calistria would approve much on our methods. Trickery is much approved by her as far as I know and we are going to pull a grand trick on those dastardly bandits."

Raegun grunts. "Works for me. I'll conceal myself outside and cut off their retreat." he turns to Oleg, softening his tough-guy facade a little. "Now. What do a few strong backs have to do to get a hot meal around here?"

What say myself and Darruth take up the right and left of the gate respectively?

Male Catfolk Rogue 2|HP 8/8 AC:15/13/12|F:0 R:6 W:-1|Init +3|Per +6

I can do that.

Darruth stretches his arms, "I think we should get set up then. They will not wait for us to get the jump on them."

Lialda had to stop herself from rolling her eyes at Kalima's retort, she didn't want to make an enemy of a person she was relying on. Having said that, girl's boasting and apparent never ending knowledge was starting to get on her nerves. The fact that Lialda had been just the same when she had been young and beautiful didn't stop the behavior from agitating her. For a moment she was jealous, it was a familiar and unpleasant feeling that had plagued her during her final days at the temple, but she brushed it off. She had to remind herself that the girl was presumably as terrified as she was, the bragging was probably to assure herself, rather than anyone else. She smiled at the girl, pity and lethargy replacing the envy and annoyance.
"I'm sure you are right." Lialda sighed wearily, hoping the conversation was over.

She turned to the cat man, surprised by his suggestion,
"I think that may be slightly premature? Presumably they aren't arriving until the morning. It's been a long journey, and Raegun is right, a hot meal would be good, and then to sleep I think, we'll be needing all the strength we can muster tomorrow."

Sorry for the delay guys busy weekend
The party continues discussing their plans late into the afternoon Svetlana is more than happy to meet their needs bringing them food and drink. Later on Olev comes over to the group
"Sorry about my our burst earlier it's just being so helpless not being able to protect my wife and living so long in fear out here." He frowns "Your all welcome to free board as long as your here and any supplies you need from my stores to beat these bandits you can take free of charge. As for when they come I am more than willing to help lure them in to the fort as long as my wife can stay indoor safe out of sight."

Kalima says, "Yes I do agree that getting some rest would be good for us all. it is best that we are in good health so that we can trounce these bandits on the morrow. We had best be prepared in the morning though and take our time to pick good hiding spots as the bandits must not see us until they have entered the outpost proper thus allowing an encircling manoeuvre."

Oleg doesn't have much I'd be interested in.

Thank you for your generosity. Looking over the supplies, it may be prudent for a couple of us to have healing potions, in case of severe injury. With Lialda's prayers we should be alright, but just to be safe... Evard suggests. maybe Melee fighters would be good carriers, in case something happens to the healer or we're too far away and need some health.

"Ah, I might have a been bit anxious about the bandits. My apologies for rushing it. You are right, we should get our rest." He walks off towards the storeroom. "I'm going to check if I can find anything that might be handy later."

I'm going to take the vials of antitoxin

The party get to know each other and talk tactics late into the night. The all retire at different times to the rooms Olev offered them. The night passes with out insident they all rise the next morning to a breakfast of bacon, sausage, fried egg and mushrooms courtesy of Olev and sverlana as they are eating Olev sits down next to them "So what are your plans today it shouldn't be long till the bandits arrive, where do you want me?"

Kalima says to Olev and Svelana, "For our ambush to go off without a hitch, we need the bandits to think it is business as usual. Do you usually leave the gates unlocked and let them enter on their own or do you open the gates for them and then lead them to your goods.?"

"They usually come into the fort to loads up their horses we locked the gate once and they threatened to burn the places down so we just leave it open and they walk in" svetlana replies

"Very well then. Leave the gate unlocked and let them just walk right in. Leave some barrels of supplies near the wagon so they go and gather them and then I can hit many of them with a blast of magic from under the stack of hay in the wagon hopefully knocking out a good deal of them."

Raegun and I can lay hidden by the gates round a corner and bear ready to cut off their retreat and advance? Evard and glancing at the Huntsman.

Then to Darruth he asks, Can you remain hidden near Kalima and protect her until I can close? And keep an eye on Lialda As well if she takes a position near you?

"Alright then, I will not come out unless they come towards her. They will soon regret it."

Again guys, I'm so sorry about being slow! I'm in a fortnight of deadlines at uni, should be back to normal totally in a weeks time, but the majority of the work is done now, so I'll be better! Thats also the reason this post is so short, I'm knackered!

GM Question:
Clerics usually prepare their spells at sunrise, but the fight takes place an hour before hand? Does this mean the spells prepared from the current day should be used?

Lialda took some time regarding the supplies offered to her, but little was of any use, in the end she took the two vials of Shield of Faith, she was more than willing to share if need be, but in the mean time it made her feel a little more confident about the fight. She listened carefully to the plans for the morning being made, and was glad of any protection Darruth could offer. She then excused herself to bed, she had a feeling it would be a restless night, but any sleep would be better than none.

Kalima takes her time to make the best hiding spot inside the wagon under a bale of hay but leaving enough open so she can see out of the side of the wagon at approaching men. She'll take 20 on a Hide check for a total of 22 for the result.

Darruth scampers up on top of the guesthouse(Taking 20) and lays down on the roof, trying to keep out of sight as much as possible while having a good view of the area below.

He takes out his crossbow and loads it while he waits for the bandits to come.
