With an investigator and slayer already in the party, the skill portion of my alchemist was really secondary. My build is more focussed on the knowledge skills side since that seemed to be more lacking. Khargol has most of the knowledge skills covered, but at +4 or +5, not enough to make many knowledge checks.

Khargol is an inquisitor.. not an investigator..

As the Slayer.. Im just Fighter+. My skills are more what he would do/know than anything.

I will say 20 is only hard to get if you need another stat.. otherwise a 20 is just as easy to get in 15 pb and it is in 25

Personally, I hate dumping stats. If you want to min-max, or focus on only one ability, then you can put an 18 in most anything. However, with a 15 point buy, you end up with -2 points if you stack everything into one ability. I have seen many characters with all the points dumped into a single stat. Personally, I do not think that I would enjoy playing any of them, as I like skills and playing characters with at least a little personality.

EDIT - DOH, I knew he was an inquisitor, was probably stuck on the investigator as that was being discussed a few posts earlier.

Liberty's Edge

I challenge thunderbeard and Sugua to show their math on the healing.

Sure—because healing alchemists are something people forget about. Copied from another thread:

Let's say I have a level 12 healing-focused alchemist, with improved two-weapon fighting and rapid shot. If he tosses only Cure Light bombs, he heals one ally for 55 and the rest for 32. If he tosses Cure Medium bombs, he heals one ally for 102 and the rest for 57. If he tosses Cure Serious bombs, we're at 135 and 67. If he tosses Cure Critical bombs, that first ally's getting healed for 152 (but he's burned a lot of spell slots).

By comparison, a standard level 12 Life Oracle is channeling for an average 21 (6d6), or 33 (8d6+5) if totally optimized, with lifelink; an optimized Hex Channeler can get that up to an average of 49 (14d6).

Liberty's Edge

Is that minimum healing on the given numbers?

You are aware we have differing opinions on that correct?

If you want I suppose, not doing anything special like Aasimar use.

A Healing Bomb at the Earliest you can get will heal 1d8+2 and splash for 3 Hp to Everyone around at second level. So 6.5 hp and 3 Hp adjacent

A Life Oracle would channel for avg 3.5 per dice

Healing Bomb is CMW for 2d8+5, 7 Adjacent. 14 and 7

Channel is 10.5

Healing Bomb is CCW for 4d8+10, 14 Adjacent. 28 and 14
Alch could have Fast Bombs I believe.

Channel for 17.5
Unfortunately The Life Oracle has a few things happening around now.. Quick Channel is Easily online as well as Life Link and Energy Body. Let's not forget a feat like Fey Foundling makes this healing unmatched as far as transference trough things like Shield other. This is also not including a Phylactery of Positive Energy.
Life Link for 5, Energy body for 13.5 and spells for days.

That person was horribly wrong too, Because an optimized Life Oracle would channel for far greater Also they cast Heal for 120hp... as well as channeled or any of their other healing tricks. There is really no comparison.

Yes, but... Fast Bombs + Rapid Shot + TWF feats means that...

Level 5: Fast Bombs, TWF, Rapid Shot vs. Quick Channel. Multiply Alchemist healing x3, Oracle x2

Level 10: Fast Bombs, TWF, Rapid Shot, Boots of Speed vs. Quick Channel. Alchemist x4, Oracle x2

Healing Body gets nice around this point, but Life Link is mostly useless except outside of combat—which the Oracle does better. Healing Alchemists are just the most powerful *burst* healers.

You have never seen Oradins or it used it is most certainly not useless

The major flaw in your build is.. You cant get Fast Bombs till 8th level period.

And Heal killed your argument.

Sugua Bran't wrote:

Err... I'm quoting myself. An optimized Life Oracle can't channel nearly as well as an optimized Hex Channeler, Life Link is an extra +5 per person healed (which I took into account as the 8d6+5, along with a Phylactery of Positive Channeling), and Healing Body I didn't count, but that's another 1d6+12 as a move action... so, 50 damage, then. Or Heal a single character for 120. This still doesn't compare with the Alchemist, who can cure for more damage than that Heal spell while also doing more splash healing than the Oracle's channel.

Not saying this is the way you should play the class, just that the Alchemist is very versatile, and that absolutely extends into being a crazy-powerful healer.

EDIT: Oops, I forgot about the level requirement on Fast Bombs. Though even before then the Alchemist keeps pace on healing, and that just lets them leave everyone in the dust.

As promised a secondary character, the Samsaran Bard. With his long years, he has spent walking the world trying to discover new things and the taming of the land has called him to area.

I'd give more background but I missed my medication yesterday on my Anti Depressant and well...electrical storm in my brain.

This character is not going to replace my earlier application as I prefer it but if this is what you are more looking for then I will play it.

As Tirion said, healing is in all honesty most of the time best done after combat. The few rare times can be handled just the same by the CLW wand or a source like that.

Hmmm, seems to me that if one needs to be that focussed on healing, perhaps the party is not approaching the encounters properly.

Irrespective of whether the best healer is an oracle or a healbot-alchemist or some cleric or a life shaman or whatever other heal focussed class they come up with in the next book, the question remains, what is the character capable of when they are not on auto-heal. I prefer more rounded characters with some skills and other fun abilities.

Anyway, time for bed. I look forward to hearing what the party decides and hope that Kailee is able to join you all in taming the Stolen Lands.

Well, I can do some healing too, although more like an off-healer type of thing. It's definitely not my focus, but I can help :) (still hoping my character might have a chance on the PbP)

If you need to be doing this much healing per round, then it's probably just going to stop spreading so much damage around and just kill the obnoxious you.

Point. Sorry, return to your regular recruitment.

Posting intrest-

However, I'm wondering- A nice old grandmotherly figure, smiling and welcoming.
She rides on a carriage led by two skeletal horses.

Basically, a genuinely affable old lady who just wants to help the group, but also likes to animate the dead.

Would that mesh with the group at all?

By the way, when does recruitment close? Just want to know when we can expect decision?

Let's say this upcoming Wednesday.

If this is still open, I'd like to submit this character. Still re-working her stats and gear for level 4 and I might need to tweak the last bit of her background (originally made her for a Kingmaker campaign starting from level 1, but every game I've submitted her to never got past the fight in the trading post at the beginning).

One question, though; how are you calculating HP for levels beyond 1st? Rolling, average, or something else?

While I think of it - how are you for technological items from Numeria (namely some of the items in the Technology Guide). Part of Xan's backstory was travelling across Numeria as a trade caravan's guard, so it would make sense that she'd pick up a few pieces of tech on her way through. The ones I had in mind were a Gravity Clip, some Zipsticks and a couple of rolls of Ion Tape. All three are on this page of the Pathfinder d20 SRD.

I mainly started looking there because I still had 2,500gp to spend and no idea on what. If there was an easier way to recharge batteries without needing a generator (which don't have any listed costs - they're under Technological Artifacts on that site if you're curious) I'd have grabbed some other stuff.

If this tech is allowed, I'm tempted to make some of Xan's tattoos Cyberart ones just for an extra bit of utility.
EDIT: Actually; scratch the cyberart - she's got darkvision so being able to make them glow as bright as candle is a bit redundant.

Putting forth Zeleysa, Cleric of Sivannah for consideration. Everything should be in her profile, if I missed anything or an error is spotted, please let me know. I am est time zone, can post multiple times a day, especially in afternoon and evenings. As to what role I see her taking in any fledgling kingdom, I would need to read the various leadership roles again. I see her as more of an advisor, someone who wields her power from the shadows. Spymaster type maybe...

Open to any feedback (hopefully constructive)

Well, yes... Besides that any other feedback?
Basically he is saying before he looks at it It Must first meet the given character creation guidelines. He doesnt want any surprises when you suddenly change up as a level 2 car is VASTLY different from a level 4 char.

Yah, I was afraid that would be the case. The other end of that is that I as a player am not going to be willing to fully create a character to 4th level and get everything settled without some indication of how viable/likely the concept is for acceptance.

I'm not saying others won't; they obviously will. I won't, however. C'est la vie; I'll wait for the next recruitment to roll around.

Ah crap; I read that as 20,000, not 2,000! I'll fix it after work this afternoon.

All Pathfinder Paizo sources are allowed, excluding ongoing playtests.

I have an entrant. I've been wanting to play this style of sorcerer. I like the style of game you have set up. My job sets up nicely to let me be online quite a bit from 3 to midnight, so the rapid fire posting works for me.

Character:
Elias is almost as good at talking himself out of trouble as he is at talking himself into trouble. Fortunately, he's also capable of bending eldritch powers to his will in order to freeze anybody who winds up crosswise with him. That helps.

Elias has always been a go with the flow, thrill seeking kind of guy. Taming the wild lands in the south seems like a good time, and if he winds up helping people along the way, that's great too. Of course, he wouldn't mind the chance to be one of the guys making the rules instead of one of the guys having the rules enforced against him.

As for a leadership role... he's not really looking to be tied down. Maybe an ambassador position? Diplomatic immunity would be pretty sweet.

Please let me know if you have any feedback or if I goofed with the numbers somewhere.

Some additional information on Zel has been added to the avatar profile.

As for down the road, I have a concept of where I want to take the build, and its the continued progression of a debuff cleric who uses illusions to throw enemies off balance and hopefully turn the odds in the groups favor.

As for Zel herself, its more complicated. She's never been this far from home, from everyone she knows. Sure, she has used her divine power before, even in battle. But she was always surrounded by warriors who kept her safe. SO her mission to find out what secrets the stolenlands hold both excites her for the chance to show what she can do but it is also terrifying. There is no church here to hold her hand, no armed guards to protect her. One wrong move can mean your death and she's already made mistakes. If she can find her place, grow her confidence, perhaps she can become more...

If this is still open I would like to put forward my Bard Miro for consideration. I need to write out a full backstory, and will get to it tomorrow, but basically Miros parents were servants to a Noble Family of Brevoy, Miro received all the same tutelage as the Noble Xions and was raised with an appreciation of the ways of Noble Houses, specifically the games of intrigue they play. Miro left his home and his family seeking what not many people seek, not to make a name for himself but to become something more, something safer, a power behind a throne. That is basically why he finds himself in the River Kingdoms.

Oh, he is built towards being a Spymaster, if that makes any difference.

Oh look at that, another Orlovsky! :)

Indeed, a shorter, non-blood related Orlovsky, but an Orlovsky none the less. Greetings m'Lord!"

There we go - sorry about that screw up before, guess the lack of sleep was hitting me harder than I thought; I think I somehow merged the 20 from the point buy and the 2,000 for the starting gold. Anyway; sheet and profile are updated and I was able to re-jigger the point buy a bit - I'd forgotten that Angelic Blood has 13 CON as a pre-req.

It's been a while since I've had a chance to use this character.

Lifts up the corner of the thread to see whether anyone is still alive.

"Hey hey watch it watch it..."

A tiny halfling rolls out from under the edge and falls on the ground. "Some of us are trying to sleep in here!"

I've been watching to see who all have fully made their chars and what they ultimately picked.

Speaking of fully making characters; all I have left for Xan is HP. I asked earlier how we were handling XP for levels after 1st but I don't recall ever getting a reply (that and I think my major SNAFU with the starting cash hogged all the attention).

Has it been mentioned earlier in the thread and I just missed it, or has it really not been answered?

You missed it, it's on the first page about halfway down or so. PFS standard.

Will get back to you all with some selections later today.

Okay, that's HP sorted. And a lesson never to read through a recruitment thread late at night and/or while somewhat sleep-deprived. :P
