Kriger peers off in the distance in the southwest direction. "They might've left, but if we don't rid ourselves of 'em soon, they'll be back," he responds without ever looking at the boy. Finally turning to the lad, "Don't you worry none, my young friend, we will make sure they never return, I promise." He pats him on the arm much lighter than he does the group.

"Southwest it is! Let's go kill us some trolls, fellas!" Kriger takes the lead as he moves out.

Survival check if necessary.

Survival: 1d20 + 14 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 14 + 2 = 32

Kriger leading the chase, you keep to the trail and make good speed as you move southwest then south, into the Narlmarches Forest. The day comes to an end as you are on an old game trail. Kriger believes the trolls are still two days ahead of you. Weather looks clear, if cold, and he's confident he could follow the trail if the trolls remain careless.

Stop for the night? Then what, pursue, head back?

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

"If we are to face these trolls, let us face them when we are at full strength. They do not appear to be running, but just wondering." he points out, looking at the tracks and how their spacing might suggest they are merely wondering and he assumes that they don't realise that they're being followed. "We should rest to avoid fighting while fatigued."

(AC 18, hp 15 of 77) Summoner 9

"Definitely rest for the night. Trolls see far better in the dark than I do... But press on come morning, I say. If we return without troll heads in hand, I suspect we'll be seen as proving Grigori right." Servayn says, adding with a notable lack of enthusiasm, given his ruinous track record thus far, "Although I suppose we should return to tend to matters of commerce and state as soon as possible, also..."

Yes, we'll rest. But we need to set up guards, and make a large fire, I think. That may actually draw the trolls to us and make our job easier.

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

"I will take first point." Davor volunteers himself as he stares down at the tracks that lead off into the distance.

AC 24 (25) HP 30/30 AP 8/8

"Milani has provided me with more appropiate spells for Troll hunting". "I will be ready".

The night passes quietly. The next day, you pursue south and keep a good speed despite tracking.

Darkness creeps again and still they are not in sight..

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

Do the tracks look much fresher? How old do they look exacty?

"Blast! We better find us some trolls soon, otherwise, that Grigori fella is gonna lose that pile of dung that's attached to his shoulders!" Kriger swears as he helps set up camp once again.

Looking closely at the trails, it seems as tough you've gained on them.

You still have a few days of pursuit in front of you it seems. How long are you willing to pursue?

It'll be faster as I'll tell you if you reached them by that time. You move about two hexes per day. Three once you get to roads."

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

I assume the entire group would like to chase after the Trolls, which is something we all wish to do.

Ok, but how many more days are you willing to go for before thinking it over, knowing you're leaving your barony exposed...

I'll leave that up to the group to decide. Everyone is more focused on destroying the trolls though. Again I'll leave it up to the group.

Are we moving outside of our established territory where we have farms and such? If they have gone outside of our civilized lands, it may behoove us to go back and establish patrols. Or at least one of us with some diplomacy go back to keep things steady. Perhaps Kalsgrim should do that; return and see to adminstration while the others run down the trolls.

Oh yes... Map of The Greenbelt.

"It appears as if we're probably a couple days behind the beasts. If we continue on, that leaves Gregori there to trash us even further into the ground, and not a one of us there to do anything about it." Kriger looks into the distance, pondering their options before turning back to the others. "I really want to hunt these beasts down and end 'em. But I don't want that Gregori fella stirring up trouble right under our noses, with no way to counteract. We might as well turn our backs and let him plunge a dagger in it again and again." Frustration clearly upon his face at the thought. "I guess a couple of us should go back to watch over the city and the troublemakers that might pop up on us, and the others continue on after the trolls. Or, we ALL go back and attempt to locate them another time." Kriger pauses a moment to let them think about it. "If we go with option number one, then I will head back with whoever, while Davor goes with the troll execution team. I'm not real fond of option number two. I hate it, really. Well, what do you fellas think?"

(AC 18, hp 15 of 77) Summoner 9

"I hate the facts as they are, but I increasingly believe that the trolls may never have existed at all, but merely been a staged event for Grigori to use against us, and we are but chasing a couple of hired thugs planting a false trail for us. Actual trolls would never abandon easy hunting and easy food to dash at full speed in a random direction forever and ever with no goal or purpose or motivation other than to frustrate pursuers they should not know exist. They would stay and kill again, filling their bellies with more of our people and their livestock. I fear that we have been played for fools."

"And, with the situation as it is, failure to stay but one thin sliver from economic ruin, compounded upon failure in the eyes of the people to lead, and expanded by failure to protect the people from dangers, manufactured or true, the gods conspire to ensure that Grigori, false though his intent be, speaks utter truth. I feel that every choice I personally have made has led us to misfortune, and it might be to our advantage now to look back on them and reverse as many as possible, starting perhaps with raiding the unreliable kobolds before they inevitably turn upon us, and using whatever coin they have or gold they have mined to bolster our economy."

Servayn's done trying to build something. It never works, and it's boring everyone else. Burn it all.

Have citizens been telling us they've witnessed the trolls first hand, or has it all been hearsay?

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

"But returning without troll bodies might make us seem like Liars. Atleast one troll head would be something." Davor points out, afraid that this group would be called liars for going out after trolls and then returning empty-handed.

The accounts told of first hand sightings.

Kriger shakes his head in frustration, "Yeah, but first we have to find one. Servayn makes a good point. I was so determined in wantin' to kill trolls, I didn't even stop to think that their actions are out of character." Kriger runs his hands through his hair, " <BLEEP!> We've been had! Why that... I'm gonna... " Kriger's face goes red as the anger within him reaches a boiling point. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!" He pulls his axe out and commences chopping at the ground, "First, I'm gonna kill 'im!" *chop* "Then I'm gonna kill 'im!" *chop* "And lastly, I'M GONNA KILL 'IM!!!" *chop* "AND LASTLY AGAIN, I'M GONNA FEED WHAT'S LEFT OF 'IM, TO THE <BLEEP> DOGS!" With that, he buries his axe in the ground as far as it'll go, and finally relents as he tries to calm down and catch his breath from being so ticked off.

After taking a moment to catch his breath, "Servayn, we're all in this together so stop beating yourself up. I think we all know we have plenty of Grigori's out there to take care of that for us. Whatever choices you made or Kalsgrim's made or Janku or ANY of us have made, we've always talked it over and agreed to it, if it was sound. Now, enough talk! Alright, I've made up my mind. I'm going back. Who's going with me? I don't care if it's all or none; I just need to know."

Clap! Clap! Clap! Great performance!

(AC 18, hp 15 of 77) Summoner 9

"As dishonest as the tactic may be, we could go to the fort and dig up the bones of the troll we slew there, to have a skull to bring back, at least. We've trod the moral and reasoned path time and again, and met with frustration and failure every time. I tire of beating my head against that wall, and wish to beat someone elses head instead." Servayn says.

"Killing Grigori seems a worthy start, but we might also consider hanging anyone who supports him as a traitor. It's better than those faithless ingrates deserve, better than the Surtova would have rewarded them for their sedition and might serve as a useful example to discourage this sort of nonsense in the future."

To Janku, he says, "I did not see the wisdom of your words earlier, when we disagreed on matters such as civilizing the kobolds, and you warned that such soft choices would turn against us and be cause for regret. You were right. Respect, deserved or not, is not freely given. It is taken, by force."

Obviously the long-term plan to migrate Servayn to a good alignment is out the window. Time to try something new.

"Perhaps you are right". "Perhaps it is time to enforce our edicts by force, and intimidation, instead of by peace and diplomacy". Obviously people don't want to have freedom". "Perhaps it is time we put our iron shod feet down"

As the companions debate the principles and values of their fledgling barony, torn by the same dilemmas the greater kings of Golarion all faced, the gods listen and smile as the companions see their hearts shift and oscillate between what's right, what works and what is simple...

A songbird flies near you and its clear song gives you pause. It then leaves its branch and flies to a wild rose bush, where it lands on an old arrow...

That's pretty funny. My lol gets ninja'd by Servayn.

Kriger smiles widely. "HA! HA! Now THAT'S what I've been waitin' to hear! Now let's go and clean up this town of ours! One way or another." Kriger saddles up and prepares to ride back to town.

Unless it's dark. Which in that case, we camp. And THEN we saddle up and ride back to town in the morning.

I don't think we should lie to the people. That won't do anything toward our ends. Kalsgrim says, ignoring the obvious moral implications of the proposal. But yes, perhaps it is time we return to town and deal with things there. If we have been too lenient, we can adjust our ruling style. Anger seems to be simmering right below the surface for our fair paladin.

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

"If anyone steps out of line I will cut them down." Davor grunts and decides to follow where the bird went to examin the old arrow, casting detect magic.

Is the arrow broken or still usable? Is it magic?

After a night of rest, the companions ride back north. At the end of the second day, they reach Providence. The small town is busy with urban activity.

Their day's work will soon be ending, and folks will soon head to the pubs before heading home.

As far as you can tell, people have been busy with work the last few days, and you don't note as much tension towards you as you did last time. Still, you still catch the odd face or whispered conversation.

"Everything seems alright... so far." Kriger eyes the townfolk through narrowed slits, looking to see if any dare to mouth off. "Very well. I'll be keeping my eye out for ol' Grigori. His time on Golarion will be soon end if he dares continue his idiotic ways." Kriger vows. "After all, I AM the Warden of this fair land. He wants to claim that I'm 'careless and free'? Well, I've decided he'll be the first to realize that, I've changed my ways." He winks, smiling at the thought.

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

Is there anyone like a emmisary who sees to the city problems? Davor would like to ask to see if anything else has happened whilst the group was gone as he's itching for a reason to raise his blade and cut down something.

In charge for now would be the rest of the 'Kingdom Roles'.

I think that we chose Svetlana to be 'Counselor' or something, and Corso to be Spymaster. But I can't find who we appointed for what anywhere, or our Kingdom stats, without digging through a bunch of back posts.

Game tab...

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

Okey then, Svetlana as she is the councellor and may have heard what people said around town or asked for help concerning incidents in town. Davor will ask about any concerns going around our fair city.

Svetlana is in her small house with Oleg. The decor is quite homy and it seems that business is doing well.

She's been meeting with some key people over the last days. It seems your presence has helped quiet things. There hasn't been any incident reported.

Her mind is elsewhere though. She smiles as she announces their daughter has just written to let them know she's getting married next Spring!

Davor gives a awkward smile and a nod.

"That's...lovely. Hope she has good luck with that." he promtly leaves and then returns to the group. "I'm bored. Need something to kill before my sword and armour rust."

Svetlana looks at him with unease: "It's wonderful indeed! She's recently moved to newfound Varnhold, to be nearer her mom no doubt!" At the mention of killing things: "Weren't you away to kill trolls? The whole town were talking about your courage. Tuck already started working on a song to sing your merits... Why aren't you going? Just give us clear responsibilities; we should manage for a few days."

Assuming Davor returns with word of his conversation with Oleg and Svetlana, Kalsgrim will say Perhaps that's all there is to it. We can resume our hunt for the trolls, but we need to name interim government officials while we are away.

"Aye. That's a good idea. But who?"

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

That's what I said. That he returns to the group saying that he'd like to go out and kill something before his armour or blade rusts. Mostly out of supersticion of his deity as it is believed if you do not maintain the tennants he'll rust your equipment and make it go down in quality. He also has some bloodlust, which he doesn't wish to admit.

"We should've kept up the hunt. We might've caught them by now." Davor grumbles, dissappointed their hunt was stopped prematurely.

Why don't the rest of you start back out immediately. I'll see if I can find someone to govern in my absence, and then catch up. Perhaps Corso. I'll make sure the necessary people know and he has what he needs lined up. If you have to slow to track, I'll be able to catch up.

Kriger scratches the back of his head as he looks around at the others, not sure if that's what they shoud be doing by leaving Kalsgrim behind, alone. "You sure about this, Kals? How about I stay with you, and the others can head out, and then I can help you track them down when the time comes for us to leave." He shrugs. "Probably a bit easier for you. Whaddaya say?"

(AC 18, hp 15 of 77) Summoner 9

Servayn takes the opportunity to once again eat something that isn't trail rations, or gamey 'catch of the day' seasoned with 'charcoal.'

Of the plans to stay or to go, he has no opinion, impatiently waving off any attempt to engage him in the conversation.

For once, Ember seems like the gregarious one of the pair.

Male Half-orc Inquisitor/6th, AC 21, 55/55 hp

Davor just looks to the group, waiting for them to make a descision.
"Maybe we should ride out on horse back?" he asks a he wants whatever advantage to chase after the trolls.

Moving things along...

Kalsgrim sits with the leadership staying behind, agreeing on interim responsibilities. It all goes quite fast and well and Kalsgrim manages to join the rest of the group by the end of the first day.

You make your way quickly on horseback to the last place when you were still following the trail. The day is at an end when Kriger looks for the old cold trail.

Survival to track the trolls. Those with ranks can roll to help.
