Set's last post in my games dates from two weeks ago. I sure hope he's ok.
As the party counts only four members, his absence is felt all the more.
I think I should recruit a fifth character with a focus on the arcane. That way, if Set comes back, he still has his role, mostly, and if he doesn't, we can move on.
Are you guys ok with that?
Javell DeLeon |
Oh man this stinks. I'm with you, Geraint, I sure hope he comes back as well. That's gonna create a huge hole in this game if he doesn't return. I just love what he brings to the game. That dude lives all over these boards and has been on 'em FOR-EV-OR; so this'll be an absolute shocker to me if he doesn't come back.
You might as well go ahead, DW. With the way these combats have been going for us, just the three of us for sure ain't gonna get it done. We're getting our butts handed to us with 4 consistently, no way we can keep on rollin' with 3 and expect to survive.

I can't help but mention something I saw in a recruit thread a week or two ago. It was a game you applied for, DW, but I can't remember which one it was.
You know who else applied in that same game? Dathom. I also think I saw him reapply for another KM game. Truly a "classy" fellow. (I'm trying to be as tactful as possible with my opinion here, folks; bear with me. Sometimes I tend to get carried away though.) :)
I just found that "interesting" I guess is the word I'm looking for.(It's really not, but, there again: tactful.) ;)

I also saw Dorgar in another thread :)

Hey all, sorry for being gone and incommunicado for so long. Had an unexpected trip to deal with some family drama and then after I got back, I was just completely off my game (or, any game, for that matter).
Still, no excuse for not just shooting off a post / PM / email or whatever explaining my abrupt departure, so I'm sorry for that.
It's been fun and I wish you all fun with the future of this and other games and life and stuff, but I'm not likely to be back for at least the better part of this year, if at all. Don't wait up!
Thanks for picking up the game, Dreaming Warforged, and to Javell for shooting me an email and reminding me that I'd left you guys without warning! (Yikes, I hate when people do that!)
Javell DeLeon |
No prob, bud. It won't be the same without you, my man. Not at all. Take care of yourself! It was a blast!
You know, it's funny sometimes when you look back at the beginning and see how it all started. Looking back on this game that started on April 4, 2010, there were 8 of you including Scipion. Out of those 8, only you, DW, and you, markofbane, are the only ones left. Wow. Only 2. Times change, folks. That's just how life works.
It amazes me the amount of turnover pbp games have in general. Odds are there's a game out there somewhere that still has all of its original players; but I wouldn't know of it.
Dreaming Warforged |
Wow... Set, I'm so sorry to see you go. I remember the first time I applied for a PbP recruitment, we both had a druid, and you got selected. I looked at your sheet and went silent. That day, I saw what a good background for a character was.
As Javell has said, you were part of the original players, leaving MoB and me. But it started before that with Dorgar who ran that module and convinced us to go out and look for a GM (as far as I remember...).
Anyhow, enough rambling. I'm sad to see you go, from both KM and JR games. You are one of the strongest players out there. The community loses a lot with your departure, but I'm sure you'll find another conduit for your excellent work.
All the best in your future projects. Remember you'll always have a spot at the table.

Merten Falstaff and Raveneau Delahaye will be joining us soon.
Welcome!
For equipment, work with normal distribution of WBL rules, but for level 9, as though it was spent prior to levelling to 10. This is the situation in which the rest of the group is in.
Raveneau Delahaye |
Waves to all.
Many thanks for the invitation Other Mastermind, and I will do all that I can to live up to what promise you saw in the character. I'll work on the crunchy bits and wealth over the weekend and aim to have him fully squared away before Monday.
Merten Falstaff |
Hey Guys! Glad to be here. Nice to see some familiar faces as well. I'll get to work on gear and reading through the game thread this weekend.
Would anyone care to give a brief summary of what the party has done so far, maybe some rumors one might have overheard in a tavern sort of thing?
Merten Falstaff |
My weekend turned out a little bit busier than I had hoped, and I haven't made things any easier on myself, but I'm still plugging along and will hope to have Merten all kitted out within the next 36 hours or so. Thanks for everyone's forbearance.
Merten Falstaff |
Arcane Eye or Share Senses would probably work well. If we can get within view of the fort, I'd prefer the first one, that way I don't have to send my familiar in all by his lonesome.
Javell DeLeon |
Okay, Mark, you're killing me with Raveneau. I keep going to check his profile for one reason or another and he is the MOST mysterious pc I've ever seen. ;)
I went to check on his physical features. I remember you posted it in one of your earlier posts so I just went back and looked for it there.

Class Abilities:
Weapon and Armor Proficiency: all simple and martial weapons. Light armor which can be worn without incurring the normal arcane spell failure chance.
Spell Combat (Ex): As a full-round action, he can make all of his attacks with his melee weapon at a –2 penalty and can also cast any spell from the magus spell list with a casting time of 1 standard action. If he casts this spell defensively, he can decide to take an additional penalty on his attack rolls, up to his Intelligence bonus, and add the same amount as a circumstance bonus on his concentration check. If the check fails, the spell is wasted, but the attacks still take the penalty. A magus can choose to cast the spell first or make the weapon attacks first, but if he has more than one attack, he cannot cast the spell between weapon attacks.
Spellstrike (Su): whenever casts a spell with a range of “touch” from the magus spell list, he can deliver the spell through any weapon he is wielding as part of a melee attack. Instead of the free melee touch attack normally allowed to deliver the spell, a magus can make one free melee attack with his weapon (at his highest base attack bonus) as part of casting this spell. If successful, this melee attack deals its normal damage as well as the effects of the spell. If the magus makes this attack in concert with spell combat, this melee attack takes all the penalties accrued by spell combat melee attacks. This attack uses the weapon's critical range (20, 19–20, or 18–20 and modified by the keen weapon property or similar effects), but the spell effect only deals ×2 damage on a successful critical hit, while the weapon damage uses its own critical modifier.
Spell Recall (Su): swift action he can recall any single magus spell that he has already prepared and cast that day by expending a number of points from his arcane pool equal to the spell's level (minimum 1). The spell is prepared again, just as if it had not been cast.
Arcane Movement (Su): whenever casts a magus spell, gains a competence bonus on Acrobatics, Climb, Escape Artist, and Stealth checks equal to the spell's level until the beginning of his next turn.
Dance of Avoidance (Su): while wearing light armor or no armor, gain a +2 insight bonus to Armor Class.
Improved Spell Combat (Ex): when using the spell combat ability, receive a +2 circumstance bonus on concentration checks, in addition to any bonus granted by taking an additional penalty on the attack roll.
Fighter Training (Ex): counts 1/2 his total magus level as his fighter level for the purpose of qualifying for feats.
Magus Arcana: (3 +1 FC)
Close Range (Ex): can deliver ranged touch spells as melee touches.
Lingering Pain (Su): can spend one arcane pool point as immediate action after hitting target with weapon. All damage is considered continuous damage for concentration checks prior to magus’ next turn.
Spell Blending (Ex): select one spell from wizard spell list and add to spells known. Or two spells if level is 1 lower than highest I can cast. (Ray of Sickening, Touch of Gracelessness)
Disruptive (Ex): gain Disruptive as a bonus feat.
Arcane Pool:
Arcane Pool (Su): At 1st level, the magus gains a reservoir of mystical arcane energy that he can draw upon to fuel his powers and enhance his weapon. This arcane pool has a number of points equal to 1/2 his magus level (minimum 1) + his Intelligence modifier. The pool refreshes once per day when the magus prepares his spells.
Knowledge Pool (Su): At 7th level, when a magus prepares his magus spells, he can decide to expend 1 or more points from his arcane pool, up to his Intelligence bonus. For each point he expends, he can treat any one spell from the magus spell list as if it were in his spellbook and can prepare that spell as normal that day. If he does not cast spells prepared in this way before the next time he prepares spells, he loses those spells. He can also cast spells added in this way using his spell recall ability, but only until he prepares spells again.
Spell Dance (Su): expend 1 point from arcane pool as a swift action to gain a +30 enhancement bonus to his movement rate and a +6 dodge bonus to Armor Class against attacks of opportunity provoked by moving through threatened spaces for 1 minute.
Once per spell dance as a swift action, may use one of the following on himself as a swift action: blur, fly, or haste. These abilities last for 1 round. Or can take a swift action to use dimension door as a spell-like ability once during a spelldance.
Known Spells:
1st: Burning Hands, Magic Missile, Mount, Ray of Enfeeblement, Shield, Touch of Gracelessness, Ray of Sickening 6 +2 +2
2nd: Cat’s Grace, Frigid Touch, Pilfering Hand, Scorching Ray 2 +2 +2
3rd: Displacement, Force Punch, Greater Magic Weapon, Lightning Bolt, Ray of Exhaustion 2 +2 +2
4th: Stoneskin, Wreath of Blades
Gear:
+2 shortsword
4 x mithral daggers
+2 Darkleaf Studded Leather
Rod of Thunderous Force (1/day can slam rod against ground. 20ft burst – DC 19 Fort save or fall prone and be deafened for 1d4 rounds. Wielder unaffected. Force and sonic effect)
Belt of Tumbling (+4 Competence on Acrobatics to move through threatened space)
Tunic of Careful Casting (+2 on Concentration checks)
Acrobat Slippers (retain Dex to AC while climbing, running or using Acrobatics to move on narrow surfaces / uneven ground. Also +2 competence to CMD against trip and on Reflex saves vs falling prone)
Cloak of Resistance +2
Vambraces of Defense (+1 Deflection to AC. 1/day as immediate action, deflect a ranged weapon as if with Deflect Arrows feat)
39258 spent – 6,742 remaining
Still some wrinkles to iron out yet, but all major decisions are made.

To clarify: would you have the same stats for Raveneau, in particular Str 12, if you had started at level 1? Would you have then picked up Dervish Dancer as soon as possible?
I'm trying to keep things fair for players who started at a lower level. I also know that I sometimes worry too much about certain things for balance's sake. I'm looking for your opinion to weigh against mine.
Raveneau Delahaye |
As far as starting stats - it's a decent question, but I'd have to probably say yes. I've got a bit of a history of playing sub-optimal characters to some degree.
Raveneau would have leaned heavily on spells like shocking grasp and ray of enfeeblement at low levels to be somewhat effective - but ultimately I've set him up to be a super mobile harasser - especially in an attempt to shut down enemy casters.
Ultimately the enchantment is a tradeoff for Raveneau to lose 1 to his melee attack, and gain two points of damage (which is easier to boost with Cat's Grace) which turns his damage line from 1d6+3 to 1d6+5.
He's never going to compete with smiting Kalsgrim or power attacking Kriger, but it lets him stack up a wee bit of damage over multiple attacks.
I'm not married to the idea, and could easily change it out if you'd prefer? (I was going to stick with the +2 until I realised that Greater Magic Weapon only gave numerical bonuses and not special types)
Kalsgrim Lodovka |
It is hard for me to type things like "he will instruct them to..." when it comes to other PCs. I just want to be clear that I'm trying to dictate the actions of other PCs. I am trying to play the role of the fledgling nation's leader without stepping on toes. As I try to figure out how to do that, please be patient with me and let me know if it feels like I'm pushing too hard in that respect.
Merten Falstaff |
Yeah, don't feel weird about it Kalsgrim. I've tried to play Merten as deferential based on your title from the get go. If he thinks a plan of action is flawed, he'll point it out. Otherwise, he'll do his best to comply, and keep you informed of other options.
Javell DeLeon |
I look around at our magical axes, bows, armour, headwear and more and wonder how effective a disguise will come from flopping a filthy tabard over it all.
LOL!!! Oh my gosh, I just rolled on this one! Too freaking funny! You know, that's a fair point. :)
"Hello, I-am-a-simple-guard-who-is-here-to-do-his-duty. Ignore the glowing axe, armor, belt, headband, boots, backpack, rings and so forth please. Because, you-know, I-am-just-a-simple-guard." *Smiles, his teeth managing to glow as well* "Oh yes, and ignore the teeth also, thank you." *Returns smiling*
