We'll go get the others. Where should we meet you? Holly says already thinking over what she wants to bring.

Meet me at the Gorge, at the flat section near the train tracks and the tunnel pipe. We'll meet at midnight.

Does anyone have anything else they want to do in either of their scenes or should we fast forward to you all meeting and exchanging information?

"But I had no idea that we would find out that the mustache man was doing something to him! I'm learning a lot more than I wanted to know..."

Steve is ready to skip to the next scene if Fatou has no more to say.

Ready to skip

Be thinking about if there's anything you want to hold back from the group or if you want to tell them everything. If everyone wants to share everything, we can skip that part too

When it's clear there are no more questions, Fatou dutifully follows every protocol she read for "closing" a seance. She's a little worried it will close Marty off from them, but now that ghosts are a distinct possibility--if not a fact--she's even more concerned about what else might slip through if they aren't careful. It all seems considerably less silly now.

Ready to skip ahead.

Steve has nothing to hide other than having been afraid.

Maggie frowns and pouts as the old goat refuses to share what he knows, but shuffles her feet out on his house.

Ready to skip.

Fast forward to later that evening, after your respective dinners. You’ve all gathered to share what you learned. Unless you’re deliberately hiding something, assume everyone knows about each other’s trips.

After she finishes sharing her story, she looks around at the others This feels like it will be dangerous. I'm gonna bring my bat, from the year Ted made me play softball. Steve, I assume you have an assortment of knives in your room? Fatou, Maggie, you two should grab something too.

"There are a couple old baseball bats in Dad's store, he won't mind if I grab them."

"What makes them call him a demon?" Fatou asks rhetorically, "finding credible sources is going to be a nightmare..."

Holly expresses her concerns, and Fatou considers her options. "I will come with weapons and protection against paranormal hazards. Silver, iron, bone... maybe a slingshot? They may do no good, but I cannot swing a bat."

Brutish Jock | Adversity Tokens 3 | Fight d12+1 Flight d8 Brains d4 Brawn d20+1 Charm d6 Grit d10

Steve makes a stabbing motion at Holly in order to scare her.

"What, you think I go around stabbing people?" he snorts. "I have butter knives, but not anything to kill people with."

Steve will bring a butter knife in any case.

Does anyone want to do anything or talk about anything before the meeting? Do you just...go to the spot at the right time or... something different?

I would not personally advise any minor to meet an adult at a remote location at midnight, but I also remember something shiny being sufficient extenuating circumstance for the abandonment of any and all self preservation instincts.

"Wait, the boy who died... you said name was Calvin Kipp? He told us his name was Marty Smith."

2 people marked this as a favorite.

I also wouldn’t advise minors to explore a trapped cave system, battle a demon spider clown or go to space with robot Peewee Herman, but it’s much more entertaining when they do.

Kinda, yeah. If you can't bring a knife, bring something as a weapon, I think Mr Eads felt kinda shady back there

Me and Fatou go there an hour early, to stake out. this sort of thing is usually a trap. Steve, you and Maggie come at the normal time

As Fatou reveals the name she and Steve had found, sh shrugswell... I was using a library, and you guys were using a toy... maybe you did something wrong?

People who arrive early, what skill are you using to make your difficulty 8 hiding check? I’ll give bonuses if you bring or use something to help your concealment.

Fatou is dressed like she's come back from a museum burglary. She wears a black unitard, leg warmers, and scarf. Her hair is held up by a long pin made from a dark metal. She's still wearing her backpack.

She ditched her bike somewhere nearby, and darts from bush to tree.

After Holly and Fatou leave, and Steve becomes increasingly nervous, he brings the ouija board in hand and comes over to Maggie. "I'm starting to worry about this meeting. Could you help me ask Marty if he knows about Mr. Eads and Calvin Kipp?"

Holly has her bag stashed in the bushes nearby, except for the bat, which is in her lap. She has her indigo jacket on, and is sitting still and quiet, a skill Ted has made sure she's quite good at.

Early team
You hide yourselves sufficiently well and wait for Mr. Eads to show up.

Late team
I'll pause time for the early team until you finish up your seance. I assume that this is going down during early team's hiding, so when you finish up I'll unpause their time.

Female Funny Sidekick | Adversity Tokens 0 | Fight d4+1, Flight d10, Brains d8, Brawn d12+1, Charm d20, Grit d6

"O-Okay? How do we do this?"
Maggie sits cross-legged in front of the board, reaching out with her hands.

The ghost boy reforms near the board. He's clearly the same one that Maggie saw at the parade and while riding home. He looks a lot like the boy from the yearbook, but is clearly not him. The similarity is close enough (and the ghost is wearing literally identical clothes) that in the blurry printouts of Microfiche Holly and Fatou showed you, it's hard to tell the difference. Up close, he's very clearly a different boy from the one captioned "Calvin Kipp", but from a distance or when not looking too closely he could fool someone.

Female Funny Sidekick | Adversity Tokens 0 | Fight d4+1, Flight d10, Brains d8, Brawn d12+1, Charm d20, Grit d6

Maggie yelps slightly, her hands shaking. "W-what do you know of Calvin Kipp?"

The pointer twitches in your hand as the ghost concentrates.

I'm having a hard time getting the ouija gif to work today, so if that didn't work, it said "Heard name few times"

Brutish Jock | Adversity Tokens 3 | Fight d12+1 Flight d8 Brains d4 Brawn d20+1 Charm d6 Grit d10

"And what about someone with the last name Eads? Have you heard of him?" Steve continues to ask.

The ghost shakes his head.

Any More questions?

Female Funny Sidekick | Adversity Tokens 0 | Fight d4+1, Flight d10, Brains d8, Brawn d12+1, Charm d20, Grit d6

"You look a lot like him, though. Any idea why?"

He shakes his head sadly.

Brutish Jock | Adversity Tokens 3 | Fight d12+1 Flight d8 Brains d4 Brawn d20+1 Charm d6 Grit d10

"Well, at least Mr. Eads isn't the one who killed him, or something like that. I can go to the meeting more easily now."

No more questions from Steve

If you’re both good, I’ll go back to the Gorge now

Early team
Mr. Eads arrives about 15 minutes early. He’s dressed all in black and has a large knapsack. He climbs down into the meeting spot and starts to draw something with a powder he pulls from the knapsack. It’s a circle with some crossing lines inside.

Do either of you interrupt him?

On time crew
Are you bringing anything special other than your weapons?

Brutish Jock | Adversity Tokens 3 | Fight d12+1 Flight d8 Brains d4 Brawn d20+1 Charm d6 Grit d10

Steve brings his entire backpack (plus a knife) with the ouija board, since it would be odd to bring the ouija board alone.

Intuitive: Has Mr. Eads come in good faith as an ally?

Fatou
No. No he has not. He’s doing something shady and dangerous.

Fatou catches Holly's gaze and draws a finger across her throat, shaking her head. After a pause, she holds her wrists together like cuffs, and points back at Mr. Eads eyebrows raised in a question, then glancing back the way they came, and the way the others were coming.

She pulls the sling shot out of the front pocket of her backpack, ready to act wile they had the element of surprise.

Early team
Your friends will be here any minute and Mr. Eads is almost done. What do you do?

Holly nods to fatou, and gets her bat out.
She holds up her fingers. 3, 2, 1.

As she lowers her last finger, she leaps out at me. Eads' side, and bring it back around into the fork of his legs, screaming Liar!

I'll bring my torch, skipping rope, raincoat and band-aids.

Eads screams and falls to the ground. The on-time gang arrive as Holly slugs Eads with the bat.

What do you do?

Young Lady Conspiracy Theorist  Ad:  |  Fight d12+1   Flight d10   Brain d20   Brawn d4+1   Charm d6   Grit d8

"Liar!" Fatou has a bone earring in the slingshot. "What were you doing showing up so early?"

Maggie, Steve, don't go near that weird circle thing, i think it's a trap. Fatou, do you know what it does? Holly asks, keeping her eyes on Mr.Eads, bat poised to work through a little more off her repressed anger

Young Lady Conspiracy Theorist  Ad:  |  Fight d12+1   Flight d10   Brain d20   Brawn d4+1   Charm d6   Grit d8

Fatou tries to make sense of the supplies and partially complete preparations. She'd never thought any of this would be relevant. Her first magic kit had more or less disillusioned her of all but the aesthetic of dark rituals. Astrology turned to astronomy, alchemy to chemistry, and she had moved on. She can't help but feel cheated... Next they will say Santa Claus is real.

Brains: 1d20 ⇒ 16

Mr. Eads screams and clutches his injured knee. You f@&%ing brat! You broke my leg!

Fatou, this is your first time getting a good look at Mr. Eads. You never had him as a teacher, but you saw him around school. His new beard changes his face, but it suits him better than that ridiculous mustache.
