Tulo flapped into the air with a faint squawk, trailing after Ragnar.

"How about a little warning next time?"

The raven flapped into the air toward the guards, attempting to get their attention turned away from the group.

Fly past the tower and then up on the other side, making noise, trying to get them to look away from the group's approach.

Ragnar slams into the icy wall covered in glyphs at high speed, crushing the ice and creating a large hole in the wall. He sends shards of ice everywhere.

Cold damage to Ragnar from crashing through the magical barrier: 1d6 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14

The runes seem to coalesce around the barrier, and an icy wind blows through the opening. On the other side is a portcullis-like framework of icicles, blocking your path further into the tower.

Through the portcullis, you see the following:
A massive ice sculpture of a dragon dominates this open courtyard, standing with raised wings upon a dais of solid ice. Seven squat shacks sit along the inner wall, with several dogsleds stored outside. Between them, four ice chutes descend from the battlements of the outer wall. To the west, large double doors studded with icicles lead inside the Pale Tower itself, just beneath an overhang of sharp icicles dangling from above.

Ragnar's bird distracts the guards, and one of them falls asleep suddenly. You have all arrived at the gate and are standing next to the hole in the wall made by Ragnar.

Krystae keeps an eye on the guards above while Havelock and Droviz deal with the portcullis. She puts an arrow to her string and prepares to fire upon the first guard who spots them. "Hurry up and get up to them!"

Ragnar grunted, shocked at how biting the cold was.

Cold resist 2 drops the damage to 10. Currently at 18/33. Not a great place to start a fight at.

He knew he was exposed so he kept moving, hitting heading for the frozen Porticulis with the same bull-headed mentality that had made the hole in the outer wall.

Lets try that smashy thing again.


Havelock's bomb explodes, soundly destroying the portcullis just as Ragnar comes flying through where it used to be. The guards outside do not seem to notice you at the moment.

Unfortunately, however, an ice troll appears from one of the tents with an axe in hand, and charges Ragnar as he runs into the room, slamming her axe into Ragnar's side.

Droviz charges up and skids to a halt, preferably behind the troll so he can pin it in a flank between himself and Ragnar. If a flank is impossible, he just swings with all the power he can muster.

Flanking attack 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13 for 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (4, 4) + 3 = 11 damage. If no flank, please subtract the +2.

Ragnar's spear goes through the troll's gut and out the other side. As Ragnar pulls his spear free, he sees the wound immediately start to close and heal before his eyes.

Droviz's attack misses. The wound seems to disorient the troll a bit, and her axe feebly swings at Ragnar.

Krystae sees the ice troll and sighs a little. She quickly shifts her aim towards the massive creature and lets her arrow fly!

What the heck; I might as well go the whole hog. Shield slam 1d20 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 1 + 2 = 15 for 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 damage.


Krystae's arrow goes high and glances off the statue in the middle of the room. The troll easily avoids Havelock's feeble swing and jumps out of the way of Droviz's attack. Unfortunately Ragnar anticipates the jump and drives his spear through the chest of the troll. Undeterred, with Ragnar's spear still through her chest, the troll swings her axe again at Ragnar, but is off-balance by being shish-kebabed and misses. Ragnar pulls his spear free.

Droviz, still committed to the fight, lays into the troll with both greatsword and shield. While the sword misses again, the masked warrior finally manages to connect with his less orthodox weapon...!

The troll finally falls after Droviz hits the beast in the back and Ragnar drives his spear through the troll's throat. As it lays on the ground, the wound on its throat immediately closes and heals. It remains unmoving on the ground.

Trolls regenerate and cannot be killed permanently without fire or acid being employed.

Ragnar gave Elen a solem thank you in his naive tongue as the healing energies washed over him.

He'd slain a troll. He stared down at the pile of ash as a slow grin spread over his panting face.

Krystae immediately begins looking around after the troll falls. "I am uninjured and Droviz is right, we need to keep moving now. Let us quickly check the area and move out."

The entire tower exudes a magical aura. You find the troll's stash of gold in the kennel to the southeast, totaling 500 gp.

You step forward through the arch, under some icicles.

Steamy air fills this inner gallery, emanating in lazy wisps from a bubbling pool recessed into the floor of a raised dais surrounded by six pillars of ice. Four foggy mirrors hang from the walls near ice sculptures of helmeted pike-wielding warriors.

"Pretty." Ragnar said with a small smile. He wanted to go look closer at the statues, but when Drovitz mentioned a trap, he waited.


Droviz notices the icy rectangles at the north and south ends of the room have a magical aura of teleportation. (q5)

You recall Nadya giving you the following code: "A gathering within the hall, take one, take us all" to activate the first teleporter and go to the dining hall.
