Female Caucasian May Carmine Hope: 0 ~ Magic: 1 ~ Trauma: 1 ~ Fate: 0

"If I knew I could do it again but getting vague hints from a drunken bird and snobbish comments aren't helping." May's frustration clearly rising and sighs trying to gather herself after being warned again about her book. "So now my survival is reliant on a tour guide book."

[Sheets] [Map]

Sakura:
Sorcery 8 +1(Domain Synergy) +1(Trinket Synergy) +1(Target Synergy) -1(Drain)= 10: Your magic accomplishes what you intended, though the overall situation may not go the way you wanted. Gain 1 Magic as you force your will upon reality.
Dozens of thin, silver charm chains extend out from you, reaching out for both Tomoyo and the boy on the floor. The chains wrap around their limbs and draw their bodies up until they're deposited onto their feet. Their weights settle into eerie stances, their elbows and knees slightly turned out, akimbo. These two may be able to move like people, but their motions are stilted and uncanny like marionettes. The silver chains that now hold them up fade out of view as Tomoyo gives a courtesy, and the boy gives a stage actor’s bow.

The boy’s eyes flutter open, but they stare straight ahead, unfocused. 「Something... to do... Sak-chan?」 He must be sleep-talking. Both Tomoyo and the boy look to you for instructions.

Tiresias smiled at the once woman now magical girl but as she did she held her book closer to her and her body language changed subtly to a more closed and tense posture.

She doesn't seem interested in sharing information. I don't like this one bit, something is seriously wrong around here, and now she is going to meet with Alex and Miyako. Ayatori feared her, I think I should warn them... but how?

Tiresias scanned the map in front of her. She had already spread knowledge around her by accident. How far could her magic go? Could she let them know they were coming? Maybe a spell like the uncontrolled wave like before except localized.

She looked around and focused, she had to be stealthy about it, if the Princess ever realized what she was doing she could get in trouble. What if she detected the magic but didn't know what it was?

I'll just say I was scrying the location, sounds like something I could do, right?

After making her final decision she placed her index finger over the map and focused her magic on it, she allowed her flow of energy pass through her book and her mind. In the way it shifted and weaved she coded the information. We are on our way. The Pristine Princess is with us too. Then she focused on Naiad's symbol and pushed her magic towards the book trying to instill in the flow of it the knowledge of the location to affect. Then she released it and hoped it all went in her favor.

Chrysanth glances down to the can of mace as the raven explains the various essences and their benefits. She gives the trinket a gentle squeeze before glancing up at Paresh, connecting the dots from her new memories and his short explanation. She's snapped out of her musings by Junpei's question and quickly stammers a reply. 「T-Tired? Not... not really...? I wasn't all that t-tired last n-night after the um... event? B-But I did sleep easily en-nough...」

She glances again at the trinket in her hand, 「Considering the c-circumstances, a-at least...」

Kinda figure Sora is getting played like a fiddle here... but I'm game.

"Yeah.." Sora agrees when Suzu points out doing things simply because it was breaking the rules to do so. "That's part of why I plan on keeping the pastels. The other part, because they're mine. Why would we need more than one?"

"Is our survival actually tied into these things?" Sora asks of the Maid, when May points out the probability.

Junpei finds himself grinning like an idiot at the fact that he's actually getting the introductions he asked for, when Paresh's statement sinks in. The statement about the medical condition hits with it, and he remembers what the cane used to be. 「Fair share of...comfortable since...you really have a lot going on, don't you? I won't pry, but...I'd like to help, if I can. Just putting it out there.」 He's still smiling, but he seems more concerned. It isn't hard to tell the implications are bothering him.

When Miyako replies too, his gaze drifts her way. 「Well, that lends me some evidence to that idea. See if you can tire yourself out, if you want to test it properly. It'd be a good idea to ensure you know what you've lost access to.」

He pauses, goes from concerned to a mad grin, and fishes out his phone from within the orange and purple fabric of his outfit. 「We should get each other's numbers, while we're at it. Might be an idea to share the numbers of anyone else like us, if you have them, and let them know. I'm HOPING there are more. Oh, and Ayatori, still waiting on info on the other essences! You've covered blood, sweat, and bile!」

Chrysanth, Naiad, and Junpei:
Paresh gives a weak laugh, the kind people use to tamp down deep, possibly overwhelming emotions. 「Unless it turns out your domain is genetic manipulation- You know it is funny. I have met a lot of magical girls, and not a one of them ends up with healing as their domain.

Ayatori, who has been standing like he’s about to talk for almost a minute now, hesitates to break the solemn cast that last statement had put over the group.

You don’t need to start feeling bad for me now, bird-brain. Lemme see if I can get this one: There’s also saliva, which makes you never hungry. I think the flower girl had that one... Tears, which make you like some kind of black hole for feelings. Perdita had that one. The other one she had was what let her fly, she never told me what that was. Am I missing one?

Suddenly, Naiad drops to their knees.

Tiresias and Naiad:
Sorcery: 7 +1(Domain Synergy) -2(Drain)= 6: Your magic accomplishes more or less what you intended, but it’s off in some way or has some kind of side effect. Tiresias, Gain 1 Magic as you absorb the traces of your spell to keep them from Aratani’s probing eyes.

Someone is coming!
Both of you see a single still image, the details blur and shift, suggesting motion. Naiad stands in an opalescent dress of layered tulle, her arms uplifted as if to cast magic, her face in shock. A spot of red blossoms on her chest as blood pours from her mouth. The point of a blade emerges from her collar. Behind Naiad stands a girl in full plate, a slate blue scarf hanging at her shoulder. It’s her blade that’s run Naiad through. A silver hammer is falling from Naiad’s hand, blue flames consuming it from end to end.

One, two! One, two! and through and through
The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
He went galumphing back.

Naiad, if you think it’s appropriate, you may take 1 Trauma as you abruptly watch yourself die again. It’s only in retrospect that you realize it was a sending from your good friend and not at all attractive young woman, Tiresias.

Chrysanth:
A tall, narrow shadow looms over Naiad as she crumples to her knees. An intense fear of death touches her back. There isn’t any other interpretation of that tattered black shade. At her reaction, a wave of fearsome phantoms swell around those gathered.

The crackling purple fear almost overtakes the tiny tanuki as she takes a step back, skin cracking as it threatens to shift to stone.

Ayatori nearly takes flight, even though his myriad fears seem much smaller than anyone else’s. The flighty thing seems easily overwhelmed.

Sakura:
The boy nods like he should have thought of that himself, then drops to his knees and slumps forward, landing hard on his face. His butt protrudes into the air and his arms lay limp at his sides. You’re pretty sure he’s saying the word snore with every other breath.

Tomoyo gives something like a nod or a bow, then turns and skips up the lawn toward the side of the house. In moments, you’re left alone in the lengthening shadows of the front yard. With Tomoyo brought to life in this way, you can’t see through her eyes like you could when you were both Magical Girls. You can, however, see the thin silver chains that control her. You’re not sure what you could do with them, but they’re stronger than the gossamer thread you broke when you drew the truth out of Ayatori. There are three of them. Is there anything you’d like to do while Tomoyo investigates?

Wait, the boy’s butt starts making noise. You think it might be music, which would mean it’s his phone in his back pocket, but if it’s music, it’s terrible. Mostly drums and what sounds like a little boy screaming at the top of his lungs like he’s dying.

Sora and May:
Your anchor has become a vessel filled with magic, and, at the same time, a container for a part of your soul. If your body is damaged beyond repair, your soul will seek out that missing part, and you’ll be revived by your trinket. If your trinket is destroyed, you lose that part of yourself forever. If you over-exert the magic of one of your trinkets, it will break. If your trinket is stolen, whoever holds it holds a very vulnerable part of you. My Mistress insists that her Magi keep one trinket in a safe place in case something goes wrong in a Nightmare. The Daeva- or Youma prey on everyone. It’s not like they’re after you because you have a trinket, and having that thing gives you some fairly obvious advantages against them. Just, try not to make too many. Two and three can be useful, and you can weave some powerful magic with four, but cut yourself in too many parts and you become more trinket than person. You only have seven essentia after all.

Suzu looks down and tries to press the wrinkles out of her apron. 「It doesn’t work quite that way with bound spirit magic. Those trinkets give you access to magic, but you are just as easy to kill as any other mortal, and while you’re in that form, you’re governed by the rules and instincts of that tribe of spirits. You’ll also be hunted by the owner of that magic, and you can’t kill them, or you’ll risk breaking your trinket.

Something catches Suzu’s attention and she looks away, toward one of the walls. Her face scrunches up and she sucks air past her teeth. 「Do either of you know a little one with a doll? She’s far away, but she’s putting herself in danger. After I went through all that trouble with her dress, too.

Kiyomi and Tiresias:
Looking down at Tiresias’ book, and watching the girl run her finger over the clustered figures, Kaguya points at one that’s rapidly approaching and floating an inch off the page. 「If she’s still alive, that’s Khutulun. I didn’t see her in the mirror, so it might be someone else. We may be able to see them from here.」 Able to stand in the cramped compartment of the limo, she walks to the partition. 「Open the moonroof.

A wirr of electric motors answers as the entire top of the vehicle begins to roll open. Then, the floor of the cabin begins to rise, in a minute, the three of you are clinging to the top of a bright fuchsia limo as it hurtles down the street. The car was black when you got in.

Over the bay, something is dropping on an interception route for the other girls. In the late, purple shades of evening, a blue halo of fire is the only distinguishing feature that can be seen from this distance.

Just as I thought. At least one of my girls is working tonight. Ki-chan, transform. We’re out on business.

Damn. It was hard not to feel sorry for Paresh. 「Hey, you never know. We've yet to see, and depending on how this works there could be plenty of creative workarounds depending on what we're working with. If nothing else, I'll be there if you need it.」 He couldn't help but wonder what he would end up with now. From the sounds of it, everyone had a speciality, or a single theme they could work with. At the moment, he hoped it would be something helpful to Paresh.

As Paresh answers for Ayatori, Junpei listens intently, making mental notes. 「Flower girl? Perdita? I don't exactly know who you're on about, but that can be saved for later. One of the essences lets you FLY? Seriously? I have no idea what that costs you, but that's nothing to sneeze at. That leaves two unknown essences and one unknown benefit. Given the theme here, I'd guess the remaining essences are mucus, and urine. I have one more idea if one is wrong, but I REALLY hope it isn't that. Say, Ayatori, what were you going to...huh?」

When he sees Alex in motion and looks to see what's happening, his eyes go wide at what he finds. 「Alex! Are you alright? Hey, does someone know what's happening NOW? Forget numbers, someone give me a hand!」 Junpei moves to help the navyman turned teenage girl up, and if necessary, carry her to the back door and into the cafe.

Tiresias shook herself out of her vision. Death for Naiad, it almost felt like it followed her around. She turned to a magical girl by almost dying and she killed an immortal spirit in her house and now this. More death.

She sighed and closed her eyes in concentration, she felt the drain of her magic on her even as she tried to contain her spell from spilling out into her environment.

Don't worry Alex. I'm coming. We're coming.

Then Kaguya spoke and they were no longer in the car but on top of it. As she pointed out the blue flame in the sky Tiresias felt her stomach freeze.

Something is wrong, something is so wrong. She whispered to Kiyomi, her face contorted into the same stare she had when Kiyomi placed all their lives in danger hoping that Kiyomi would understand the importance of her words this way.

Your girl? Khutulun was it? Does she by any chance wield a "vorpal blade"? Does she wear full plate or have a blue scarf that usually lays on her shoulder?

The aquatic magical girl places both of their hands against their throat, as if trying to hold something in, gurgling a bit as they curl up and attempt to place their back to a wall, chest heaving frantically as they try to regain their bearings between gurgles.

"Seven choices, like... seven eggs. In the dream, I gave the lost girl back her seven objects... and when I came out I had the eggs with me. Does that mean she'll come back through those?" she asks, then shakes her head. "Also, what even are the choices? And... I don't remember a girl with a doll. Twins, Scary, Book, Closet, Water, Wings, May..." she says, ticking off her fingers.

Male Iris

Someone coming? If Alex's state was any indicator, this someone was bad news. But do we fight them, or bail? Could they be talked to? What do we...「It's alright, it's gonna be alright. Can you move? What do we do? Do we confront them, or get out of here? Calm down, deep breaths...」

Sakura:
As you take hold of the chains you can feel the rhythmic tugging of Tomoyo’s movements. The animated doll makes her way to the other side of the house and stops. You can feel her turning to scan the yard, and then she grows still.

Suddenly, there’s a terrible jerk on the chains and frantic movement. You get the sense that Tomoyo has fallen to the ground and is rolling. What do you do?

Chrysanth starts in surprise and concern as Naiad collapses. She doesn't stay on her feet for very long either as the sudden shade of Death looms over the sailor. She lets out a sharp shriek and stumbles back away from the ominous spectre, succeeding in falling on her backside with all the grace of a newborn. It takes her a moment to realize the image was little more than her dreadsight rather than another monstrous danger.

She quickly notes the various fears lurking around her companions flaring anew. Her own initial fright warps into concern, not only for Naiad, but for Paresh as the Tanuki's skin seems to crumble within her visions. She quickly retakes her feet and rests a hopefully comforting hand on her friend's shoulder, asking Paresh quietly, 「Are y-you alright...?」

Junpei:
You carry Naiad to the door and pull it open. The plastic crate holding it from locking skids across the floor and hits the ice machine. Emi looks up from a tray doily she was drawing on. She's in her doormouse costume.

Even in the familiar blacklight nightmare that is the back hall of the shop, colors seem to flatten as you brace the little sailor against a rack. Everything seems a bit more real back here in familiar territory. The talk of magic girls even seems more like a funny joke from his side of the doorway.

When you’ve turned around, the giant dog you thought you saw is even a tiny black pomeranian, pushing past the door as it closes.

You hear a loud crash outside and Emi squeeks and looks at the back door, scared again.

Naiad:
You’re dragged toward the door in arms that seem ridiculously strong. It must be because you’re lighter. No way this dude could hold you like that if you were back to normal. You glance back to see... Zeek burst into disintegrating rubble and turn back into sassy puppy form.

The inside of the cafe is super dark with stripes of that neon paint on the walls. You can feel your magic grow distant here, but it’s like that slight hesitation you have around gran, like you really gotta be careful not to swear around her. Out in the darkness of the cafe back room, there’s a little girl with big round mouse ears crouched over a waitress’s tray. Her look of fading panic and growing curiosity seems to remind you you’re not the one bleeding.

You take your first shuddering breath leaning against a metal rack next to an ice machine. The back door is closed, and the vision that struck you feels so distant now.

There's a crash like a mortar round striking home just outside the door, and the mouse girl makes a mouse noise.

Chrysanth:
Junpei has Naiad as soon as she falls, and the two of them head for the door. You take half a step to follow, then see Paresh staring up at the sky, petrified, figuratively and literally. The Tanooki’s fear response has transmuted him into a statue carved in pink sandstone. The stone dog behind him crumbles into dust.

You turn to look at what was coming just in time to narrowly dodge a flying spear, bathed in blue flames, by falling once more on your backside. The wide blade of the spear embeds itself in the pavement between you and Paresh. A dark lady knight dismounts the spear. She’s carrying a super long sword over her left shoulder, but draws a stocky short one from her belt. There’s three samurai sheaths on her back, but only two hilts are visible.

Then, a bright pink limo screeches to a halt at the end of the ally with three girls riding the roof. You spot your back row buddy, who it’s hard to remember is actually your English teacher. You also see the rich girl from that night, as well as some tiny girl brandishing a wand and a mirror. The crow flies to land on her shoulder with a satisfied squack.

The knight and the tween lock eyes, there’s a pause, then the tween relaxes, dropping down off the limo to approach the knight. 「See? She’s got everything under control.

Tiresias:
Well, she is the Vorpal Knight.」 Kaguya giggles. It would seem the bravado and impending confrontation has her positively giddy. She’s drawn her hairpin wand in her right hand and an ornate hand mirror in the other. 「You’ll like her, Ki-chan, she’s around your age. In real life, I mean.」 Does she consider this separate from reality? Of all the delusional rubbish you’ve heard her say, that one is perhaps the most dangerous.

The car jerks to a halt, spilling you forward onto your knees. In the alley you’ve just stopped in front of, three other girls stand. Well, your student, Miyako, in Dread Witch form, is not standing, she’s fallen down. There’s also a little tanuki girl with a cane and a scroll who strikes you as familiar, but your focus is drawn by the terrifying visage of your nightmare made flesh. The Vorpal Knight stands in front of the flaming partisan, carrying a claymore and a saxon. You can see the hilts of two samurai swords at her hip, spaced as though there were a missing third blade.

To your horror, Kaguya drops down from the limo, magic implements at her sides. 「See? She’s got everything under control.

Kiyomi:
Well, she is the Vorpal Knight.」 Your mother’s laugh is like a vocalized exclamation mark. You’ve never seen her so present, so alive. You eye the hairpin wand in her right hand and an ornate hand mirror she has in the other hand, and wonder if it’s such a great idea to change right now. 「You’ll like her, Ki-chan, she’s around your age. In real life, I mean.」 What did she mean by that? Are you that cliche where you’re the last to know about your own condition? Surely not. You’re over-thinking.

You all start to decelerate, and even though it’s probably as gentle as possible, you feel yourself lurch forward. The car slides to a stop in front of an alleyway. Your mother’s crow is there, as well as a few other magical girls. You remember the sado-kun girl from last night. There’s also a little tanuki girl with a scroll case and a white cane who appears to have turned to stone, as well as a dark lady knight. The knight is carrying a really long sword over her left shoulder, but draws a short sword. They’re all standing around a tall spear, the blue fire around it sputters.

See? She’s got everything under control.」Your mother has hopped off the car and is walking toward the others.

Sakura:
You run, reeling in the slack of the chains until you round the corner. On the side of the house, just inside a small gate into the back yard, Tomoyo struggles with a long, black snake. It’s wrapped around her several times, and she’s having trouble getting it off.

Sora and May:
The social climate is very different in the west. The Pendraig family has taken a firm stance on which side of sorcery is righteous. You’ll notice Harry’s wand was made with a phoenix feather.

The smile disappears from Suzu’s face as she recognizes what Sora was saying. 「Seven eggs? This was from the Youma you were telling my Mistress about?」 Suzu’s posture grows more closed as she crosses her arms and casts her eyes to the floor.「She has some understandable denial on the subject, but that was what it looks like to make seven trinkets. Youma are pale shades of humanity, and there are many ways for them to come about, but using up all your essentia is definitely one of them. You don’t go supernova right away, but get all your trinkets together and they’ll bind whatever’s left of your humanity. I think you’ve seen the result. My Mistress called it a star child. She has a talent for sounding like She knows what She’s talking about, just like the Pendaig family... I’ve never heard of someone getting eggs out of the process. It sounds familiar, though. I will have to consult the texts.

As he sets him down properly, Junpei whispers to Alex. 「Take as much time as you need to get yourself together. I'm guessing this is a mental shock rather than a physical one, given your trinket, so ask for anything you need to get calm. Try and get out of here when you can. Preferably looking less conspicuous, with your trinket hidden just in case.」 After making sure he's comfortable, he pulls a notepad and pen from his uniform, scribbles his number onto a blank sheet, tears it off and hands it to Alex, no longer whispering. 「Can you let me know that you make it back alright? It'd be a weight off my mind.」

That done, Junpei adjusts his hat, locks the door, and looks to Emi. The poor girl could hardly stand to get caught up in this. What could he say...oh, duh. Perfect excuse.

「Glad I went out there. Chinami here got mistaken for one of the magical girls everyone's talking about, and managed to gather a small crowd because of it. Seems she's still out of it from the shock. Have to say though, I wish I could pull a crowd like that with my work!」 Well, he probably could once he had a trinket, but that was a matter for another time. Alex first. 「If you're not busy, can you keep an eye on her? Sorry to trouble you like this Emi, but I want to make sure they're gone before she leaves.」 It wasn't the first time he'd done something like this, so hopefully he could get off without too many questions. 「Oh, and the dog is hers. Don't worry about it.」

With the crash, Junpei's very glad he locked the door. 「Seems like I really need to sort this out. Didn't think they were that kind of crowd. You might want to get Chinami somewhere more comfortable when she can move. And, uh...don't open the back door for anyone out there. Not with how they're getting. I'm going to head around the other side and deal with this.」 Junpei hurries out front, explaining with all the flourishes attire demands that there are some troublemakers when needed, going right back to the alley.

As he rounds the corner, he prepares for the worst and puts on his usual affectations. 「No no no, what are you doing? You're making the most terrible ruckus, and that's supposed to be our job!」

Tiresias stands there, both her hands and knees on the floor as she gathers her bearings and watches in panic Kaguya approaching the girl with such carelessness.

「No! Stop! She’s not who you think she is. She’s different, changed, fractured, broken… I don’t know how to explain it but she is not who you remember anymore. I saw her… I saw her kill us!」

Tiresias looks back at Kiyomi hoping for some support against her mother. She pleaded silently with her and then got up and jumped from the roof of the limo to the ground. As she was descending her hood fell open and her long white hair freed itself from its prison flowing behind her like a battle flag of silver and ivory. When her feet touched the ground she continued.

「Please, listen to me! She is changed you can’t trust her. Ple-」

Then the unthinkable happened, a man came running from a nearby shop. Tiresias saw him approach the location and in absolute horror.

A civilian? This can’t be true! This is not what I need right now! This is the opposite of what I need. We will just get him killed!

Tiresias stood up straight and ran towards him placing herself between him and the rest of the girls in the alley. With her back turned to him and her head only slightly in his direction looking over her shoulder just enough to see him clearly she spoke.

「Sir, please do not interfere. This does not concern you. Please return and leave the premises. We have everything controlled.」

Male Iris

Well, I was going to wait for the scene to be unfolded before me, but now that I've been reacted to...

Oh boy. Bright pink Limo. And more magical gir- well, perhaps not GIRL girls, actually. There was Paresh and Alex at least, and any one of the people here could be of any gender untransformed. Just assume female for now. One of them was running up to him, and he had to wonder why she seemed so -

Oh. Ohhhhh no. If anyone seemed the likely source of danger here, it was the armoured one. No wonder Alex had such a bad reaction. No way he could leave her around here. Even without Alex recovering, Miyako and Paresh were here as well, and they'd be caught up in this too. Maybe the white-haired one could help.

Not missing a beat, Junpei keeps going. 「My, aren't you aware? The more you tell me not to question, the more I want to know! Oooh, let me guess - has your queen sent one of her soldiers to execute that masked lady and the tanuki?」 There's a wink to Miyako and Paresh with this. Hopefully they get the hint to play along. 「I do hope not. Live bodies are always more fun than dead ones!」

He takes the chance to get close to the white-haired girl. 「Ohhh, I have something I must tell you about that knight! You see-」 He leans right into her ear, dropping his voice and swapping to another exaggerated expression. 「-I think Alex is in a bad state because of her, and likely going to be in a worse one if we're not careful. He's like us, if you don't know, and recovering now inside. I know the pact, and it seems I'm qualified, but keep it down, could you? Lets work on this together, because I'm not going anywhere.」

Swiftly, he pulls away and chuckles to himself. 「Who knew you could do things like that with a tangerine? Ah, but I shouldn't gossip, let alone with the individual in question just there. I don't even know what I'm interrupting!」 Or the impalement risk involved. He'd have a plan, one day.

Tiresias saw the man continue to approach, she wasn’t really surprised that her warning didn’t discourage him from continuing, when did a warning ever stifle human curiosity? Then he mentioned Chrysanth and the tanuki girl and several other things that made her uncomfortable. Well not as uncomfortable as when he got too close to whisper in her ear, she was about to push him away when he dropped the name. Alex. Immediately she turned towards him and her eyes scanned him excited and frightened in equal measures.

Alex is alive and well? Oh thank God. He’s resting though? I guess the vision took a larger toll on him than on me, I have to be careful with how I do this but at least he was warned on time.

She fixed her gaze on the man’s face obviously surprised that he knew so much already, maybe he was part of the old Dawn Guard? Very unlikely, the book didn’t show any other person with trinkets there. When she spoke she did so in a whisper almost like she was trying not to hear her own words.

「Alex? He’s safe? Where… 」

Then her eyes grew darker and she adopted the same tense pose she had before even turning slightly away from him again, her voice was now louder and more assertive but not loud enough that it could be easily heard in the alley.

「Thank you for helping him… he means… it doesn’t matter. I must still insist. If you are not going to turn into your magical girl form then I will ask you to leave. This is no place for someone unprotected. Please, I will not have another death on my conscience.」

Geez. He just said he wasn't going anywhere, and that Alex was inside. Seems she knew him though. That made the odds she was friendly much better, with the way she reacted. Seemed he was someone very special to her. Time for more whispers, in any case.

「Good to hear you two are friendly. If you can contact him later, I gave him my number, if you ever need to reach me. Anyway, I'm going to be honest here: I haven't made the pact yet. Don't flip out. I don't know what magic detection is like, and would rather not tip my hand yet. But given the information I have so far, I know I can make the pact. If it's necessary, you can make it for me, provided I'm not in a state to do so myself. My iPod's in this pocket here for use as an anchor, so if you grab that, put some of my Blood on it, and say the words, I'll be fine. Sweat or Saliva works if blood's not available. Otherwise, as I said, I'm not going anywhere. I know this is dangerous, and take responsibility for what happens to me as a result of this. But there's no way I'm leaving Miss Dragoon, since she's liable to kill everyone. I couldn't have that on my conscience either.」

Wait, ANOTHER death? What is it with people and tragic back-stories today?

"But so was Voldemort's." Tenshi responds with a shrug, and a deep breath. "It's more about allusions, I think, than to default to phoenix feathers being good or evil. Phoenixes are beings of flame... but also of rebirth. A transformation of what was, into something new, and perhaps greater. To Voldemort, the feather likely represented the blooming of his own strength and freedom, the power to never be trodden upon again. And, perhaps ironically, the same could be said for Harry. There are a lot of analogues between the two, the differences being primarily that Harry had a very clear view of what he could become if he took that power for granted and let hate win. Regardless, as much as I love talking about literature and art, you mentioned someone being in danger... and I don't think any of us are really meant to be alone any longer. Do you know how we can get to her?"

Naiad jumps a bit as the explosive sound outside resoundingly reverberates, gasping some as their eyes flip open and see... Emi.

「Um. Hi. I... do you have any tea or coffee? It's been a really long day and I could really use something to wake me up right now.」

The thought initially is to get the mouse-girl away from whatever it is that is going on, and then the idea of escape, but then that whole 'deadened' sensation hits their realization buttons.

「..and um, somewhere better to sit than the floor, maybe?」

...y'know, she's kind of cute, if a bit mouse-y.

SERIOUSLY? WE'RE being HUNTED, maybe about to be KILLED and you think the girl is 'cute'? What are you going to do, adopt her as your fangirl?

Chrysanth again scrambles to her feet, dashing around the burning spear skewering the earth to stand next to her now statuesque friend once again. 「P-Paresh, are y-you okay? C-Can you ch-change back?」 She murmurs worriedly, glancing to the warrior woman that had violently interjected herself into the alley. The sound of a motor draws a quick glance to the street proper.

It would be hard to say the bright pink limo didn't surprise her, if only for the bold choice of color. The benefits of being a rich young girl, she assumed as the youngest of the three magical girls, the one she didn't recognize dismounted and moved ahead as if she were in charge. Chrysanth did her best to keep both the knight and the wand wielding tween accounted for as she stood next to Paresh's pink sandstone body, holding her trinket tight and preparing to use it if necessary.

Her grim determination faltered slightly as Junpei can strolling back into the alley from the street, staring at the man as he did what he apparently did best, interrupt dangerous meetings with flawless acting. She took the distraction as a chance to examine any shades that might be looming over the two new magical girls imposing around her.

It seems like you want to get Tomoyo out of danger, arm her, and damage the snake in preparation for a longer battle. Here are your options:

1: Take 2 Magic and break one string on Tomoyo, and she can get the upper hand in this fight, ready to continue fighting because she's changed into a monster-kigurumi. I'll PM you about a magic shift.

2: Take 1 Magic, and break two strings, getting Tomoyo out of harm’s way in one piece and without changing her. The flimsy plastic blades you summon break in the process.

3: Let the doomed spell do what it wants, take 1 Trauma as Tomoyo’s face cracks, and use one string to slowly wrestle the snake into submission. I'll PM you about a trauma shift.

4: Release the invoked spell, and break all three strings to free Tomoyo in one piece, and the snake starts to flee.

5: You can use one Fate to re-roll. You may have Sakura change the intent of the spell to try and get more bonuses if you are re-rolling.

Kiyomi is happy to become Juno again at her mother's command; the feeling of maturity and poise returns to her once more, and she is ready to work by her mother's side. Her poise is momentarily shattered at her mother's offhand comment - she can't be THAT obvious, surely - but it is only a moment before she is back again.

Of course, as is usual for poor young Kiyomi, it does not take long for something else to happen to disrupt her. The Vorpal Knight, the girl her mother had called Khutulun, stands in the middle of what is apparently some sort of conflict, though who is on which side is unclear. Her dark armor gives her a mysterious and intriguing aura, and Kiyomi forces herself to stop that thought short because this is starting to get ridiculous.

Tiresias' subsequent freak out makes shifting Juno's train of thought rather easy. She saw Khutulun kill us? A vision from the Seer is certainly not something to take lightly... but Kaguya certainly seems to trust the Vorpal Knight. Bound by indecision, Kiyomi makes the choice to say nothing, looking to her mother for guidance.

[Sheets] [Map]

Junpei:
A little girl in pink that reminds you of Emi as the queen of hearts stops approaching the knight.「Khutulun, what happened last night?」Her eyes dance around the scene, trying to put pieces together.

Kill people?」 The knight looks down at the sword she just drew. She’s more interested in answering you than the little moon princess. 「No, I came to apologize to Naiad. I don’t know what came over me.」 Her armor parts like plastic under a heat lamp, leaving her very exposed. She sheaths the spartan sword and jabs the zanbato into ground to free up her hands. At the sight of you, she’s completely lost track of what she was talking about, her voice drops in pitch and her eyes grow more vibrant.「Ahn~ You’re a cute one. Like a colorful bird.」 Her posture shifts to something more supine, and she beckons with her left hand. 「Sweetness, I’m so thirsty. I’d do a~anything for a drink.」 You’re not sure what she’s suggesting, but it’s probably more lascivious than you’re comfortable with... at least in a dirty alleyway.

Khutulun, what happened!? Do you have six blades now?」The pink girl’s voice is coming out in a squeel.

Tiresias:
Kaguya halts at your warning and starts. 「Khutulun, what happened last night?

The knight doesn’t seem to be listening, as she’s distracted by you and Junpei.「Kill people?」 She looks down at the saxon like she isn’t sure what she was meaning to do with it.「No, I came to apologize to Naiad. I don’t know what came over me.」The armor she’s wearing seems to melt into smaller, softer plates that accentuate her curves. The helmet disappears to reveal red eyes and raven-black hair. She sheaths the saxon and jabs the claymore into the ground at the sight of Junpei.「Ahn~ You’re a cute one. Like a colorful bird.」 Her voice is distant, distracted, and sultry. Her posture shifts to something more inviting and she beckons delicately with one hand.「Sweetness, I’m so thirsty. I’d do a~anything for a drink.

Frustration and terror crack Kaguya’s voice as she reiterates her question.「Khutulun, what happened!? Do you have six blades now?

Chrysanth:
The prim little princess halts among a parade of fears, chief among them is loss. As a leader, you can see that this girl gets emotionally invested in those she leads, and right now, she’s on the edge of a mental break, there are dozens of unique little goblins clinging on her shoulders. 「Khutulun, what happened last night?」It would be so easy to break her... Just a touch, a word, and she would be permanently overcome.

Kill people?」 The knight looks down at the short blade with an empty gaze.「No, I came to apologize to Naiad. I don’t know what came over me.」 She sheaths the blade and shrugs the huge sword off her shoulder while her armor melts away. It stops just short of leaving her naked in front of you.「Ahn~ You’re a cute one. Like a colorful bird.」 Like a delayed reaction, her posture shifts, her muscles moving in punctuated bursts, and she reaches up to beckon coquettishly.「Sweetness, I’m so thirsty. I’d do a~anything for a drink.」 You shiver as you recognize that your magic would slide off of her like water off a duck. Nothing haunts this woman. She’s hardly human.

Khutulun, what happened!? Do you have six blades now?」 A new and familiar fear climbs to the front of the girl’s party of gremlins. A female figure, purple lightning descending from her fingers. She’s a tempest of arcane horror.

Kiyomi:
Your mother stops, her wand and mirror in loose grips at her sides. 「Khutulun, what happened last night?」 The hairpin’s undergone some kind of change, and the fanciful hand mirror is probably similarly changed. You can almost see the glamours over them like soft, creamy marzipan.

Kill people?」 The girl looks down at a pretty delicious looking sword. It, the great big rocket pop of a sword, and the spear no one seems to be watching all have that candy coating of a trinket in battle mode.「No, I came to apologize to Naiad. I don’t know what came over me.」 Your mother’s associate sheaths the little sword, and her clothes melt off. It’s like some kind of dream. Fiery red eyes, a satin fall of black hair, an edible arrangement on display around her. The girl sticks the rocket pop into the ground, then looks up and smiles.「Ahn~ You’re a cute one. Like a colorful bird.」 Her body seems to relax, her posture more open, and she reaches out to beckon for you with one crooked hand.「Sweetness, I’m so thirsty. I’d do a~anything for a drink.

Your mother mumbles something, but it’s basically the same dumb stuff she said before. With the strange statue’s scroll and cane, and the spooky girl’s pepper spray, there are no less than eleven trinkets being waved around in this alleyway.

Naiad:
As soon as Junpei leaves, Emi drops down from her barstool and saunters in your direction.「Look, Chinami, I’m not getting you shit, and you’re going to stay the f*$! away from Junpei. I’m not cleaning up after you or your stupid f!+&ing purse dog.」She stops at the kitchen counter, her hand resting on a knife.

Another woman peeks in from the front of the cafe. She’s unusually curvaceous for an Asian woman, and is wearing a literal catsuit: form-fitting, fluorescent, and covered in tufts of fur. 「Emi, what’s going on back here? Jun-chan just shot through like there’s a new set of pokemon cards out.

Nah, it’s some cosplay b+#&% begging for free coffee. She got mugged or something cause she’s been wagging her tits around town.」 Your costume is much less revealing than hers, and neither of you are particularly scandalous. You see her grip the knife, but not pick it up.

Emi, cool it. I’m pretty sure Jun-chan is gay.

Emi whips around for a comeback, leaving the knife on the counter. 「Don’t you start with this, Chou! Sempai is clearly not gay. He’s just a little bishi. There’s nothing wrong with a beautiful man. He just takes good care of his hair and skin.

Sakura:
You’re able to force the threads of magic into place, forming little plastic claws for Tomoyo to fight back with. You pull one thread up and back, slashing at the snake’s binding coils. The silver chain snaps into shimmering dust as you wrap the second around your hand a few times, snapping it’s length back and forth like a whip as your doll grapples with the panicked serpent. With a final snap, Tomoyo kicks free, claws broken, but still kept mobile by a single silver chain.

The snake sits between you and your doll, coiling and casting about for an escape. The serpent does not look like an animal. It looks more like a strap of tooled leather, eyes glinting golden studs. It is controlled by someone far off to the east, in the direction it was headed. The velvet leash looks strong, and made from magic, but nothing you couldn’t handle.

Sora and May:
I wasn’t suggesting the phoenix was symbolically good or evil in that story. By that point they were subjugated. Riddle was raised as a wizard under a tradition which heavily favors harvesting magic from the wilds and creates a taboo of using your own. So much so, that there is a business of manufacturing wands.」 Suzu seems relaxed expounding over academia, especially delving so deeply into a tangent. She doesn’t seem too willing to let you have the last word on the subject. 「Riddle’s habit of binding his own soul is taboo, but it isn’t what makes him a bad guy. He was a psychopath before he started learning magic. His lack of empathy allowed him to see the practice as a tool.

Switching topics quickly, she turns your trick around on you. Furthering the topic of fictional symbolism further would open the door for a much more heated, much more silly debate.「The girl’s too far to reach on foot. She,」Suzu indicates May,「would have to have seen the person or place to be able to jaunt there through a door without casting a spell. You would have to hope someone is sleeping nearby to use the Cloud Watcher cantrip, and it would be dangerous. It’s okay, I think the little one’s going to make it. She’s really the most talented of your cohorts. Just, check in on her when you get a chance. She’s burning the candle at both ends and could use a little TLC.」Suzu crosses the room to the stairs, a little precarious in her heels, but graceful enough to keep from toppling over entirely.「Let’s take this conversation to the library, then. My Mistress has just tons and tons of apocrypha.

「You don't even have a pact? You must have a death wish!」

Tiresias whispers to Junpei as the knight and Kaguya start talking. She looks towards Kaguya, the slightest feeling of relief as she seems to take her warnings seriously for a moment quickly replaced by confusion.

Apologize to Naiad? But, Alex is inside... safe, right? What is she talking about? Maybe... that vision wasn't the future, the Naiad there was different from Alex's Naiad. She wore different clothes and had a weapon. Maybe it was the past? Could it be that their magical personas aren't unique to them. Could they be passed on from person to person as they die? Are they like character archetypes on a game? Is a Masterful Seer a class several magical girls have had before? Would that mean that she is the culprit for the death of the other members of the Dawn Guard?

All this crosses her mind as the scene unfolds before her and then Khutulun beckons Junpei and Tiresias gets angry. He is only a human and he will not be mixed in this like this. Her body tenses and she moves to block Junpei from going to Khutulun.

「He's not going anywhere! Except away from here and from you!」 She barks at the sword wielding knight.

*Gulp*. Khutulun just did a complete 180 on her behaviour before - scratch that. She was going off on every angle. And Junpei was not comfortable with the one she was working now. What on Earth is...waiiiit. Six blades being a cause for concern, a magical girl form, a comparative lack of items on other magical girls - those weapons are all trinkets, aren't they? Which would mean she's practically WEARING her soul. And look at her now...he really hoped he was wrong about this. Because she was a mess. And if those were all different trinkets, it might not be fixable. Please be wrong, please be wrong, please be wrong -

Junpei's brought out of his stupor by the white-haired girl's actions. Seeing things as they unfold...it couldn't be worse. He shouldn't have told her. He shouldn't have told her! SHIT SHIT SHIT SHIT NO! Lurking behind his expression, panic and terror flowered in his mind, and it was all he could do not to drop the façade. All he wanted to do was freak out, but if he did, things would only escalate. 「It seems I'm not the only one with a death wish here! Please, just leave this to me! She's unstable. There's probably not much left of her. But if I do this right, I may be able to get her to stand down. Or at least, stall her long enough for everyone to deal with things. I don't want anything to happen to you! Let me be responsible for myself! Don't decide things for me! Don't do this! Please!

He had to work fast. He had to divert attention from her. He had to do something! Apologetic, apologetic! 「Oh dear. I am terribly sorry about her behaviour. One little rumour and I make her mad too! Don't blame poor Alice, she's never known any better.」 Please let that be enough to cover her. Got to keep going. Shift topics. 「You, Khutulun, do! A drink is best enjoyed freely, and you're still dressed for business! Your face, your clothes, your delightful collection - they're all meant for work, and I should think I'm not that dreary that you'd need them for me!」 Can't provoke her. Gotta talk her down. Gotta fix this!

Chrysanth watches the mob of fears surrounding the seemingly young princess. The various spectres, while intimidating, washed away most of her distrust for the girl. She was quite human, and able to be reasoned with. On the contrary, the sheer lack of dark figures surrounding the knight left her unsettled. She had been a magical girl for less than twenty four hours and she'd already learned that no one was that serene.

The lascivious armor and the woman's sultry tone made Chrysanth's stomach turn. If she were normal, the facade might have seemed more inviting, but there was no fear of rejection, no hidden shame or worry. She was using her sexuality as a lure and nothing more. She was cold, she was merciless, and worst of all, she still seemed to be calculating.

As the girl with the wand and mirror snapped, and the fears shifted in power, Chrysanth finally understood just what was wrong with the knight. She had six trinkets already. Her soul was severed and warped into the countless weapons surrounding her. She was one more item away from being nothing more than the murderous spirit they had faced the night before. She glanced at Paresh' statue worriedly and gripped her mace tight, stammering, 「Y-You're nothing m-more than an empty sh-shell,」 As she returned her attention to the knight in the scandalous armor.

For once, things go smoothly. The leash snaps and the control end whips through the air like a broken rubber band. You broke a band on your wrist once. You don’t want to be whomever was on the other end of that spell.

The frayed end of the leash loops itself into a new handle. Looking down at the six strings attached to your silver hoola hoop of power, you try to understand what makes them different, and what makes them the same. The silver charm chains are strong, simple, and versatile. They represent a job to get done. So far, you pull on the chain, and the thing on the other end does what you want it to do. The black velvet ribbon is still glowing with letters you don’t know. It looks really complicated and specific, but this new leash gives you some idea at least of what the other one is. That’s what it feels like, though: a leash. It feels like this velvet ribbon pulls on the snake and directs it where to go without someone to tug on it. You don’t get the feeling you could do just anything by pulling or plucking the leash yourself. It’s not like the chains. Pulling the snake’s lead will do something specific. That’s how the black ribbon feels. It’s doing something on its own, and will do something specific if you pull it. You have no idea why it has letters on it. You haven’t seen another string with letters.

The leather snake sits on its coils, looking up at you with its brass stud eyes.

Juno's face turns cherry red as her mother's friend strips down and begins speaking in sultry tones. For a brief moment she is wholly seduced... Until Tiresias responds by defending Junpei, and Juno realizes that Khutulun had not been beckoning her at all.

Right... that makes more sense. Not as if it really mattered anyways, though a slight frown of disappointment does escape her lips.

Meanwhile, the people around Juno are readying a fight against the sultry young knight... when Chrysanth speaks up Juno finally notices her presence, small as it may be. An empty shell? Is she accusing Khutulun of being the same as what we fought the night before?

"N-now, I'm sure there is a perfectly valid explanation for... whatever is happening here. Maybe just... calm down and let her explain herself for a bit." Juno really did not want to attack Khutulun if she could avoid it; she has so many trinkets, after all. Juno needs to know how she got them.

[Sheets] [Map]

Tiresias:

The girl glances to Kaguya, then lowers her eyes.「I don’t... remember why they were so important. I have to keep them close now. I can’t lose any more.」 Her voice grows hoarse and she stops to swallow, raising a gauntleted hand to touch her throat. Turning in your direction, she nods. 「Yes... I think you’re right. I’ve been running all night from what was done... from what I did.」 The scantily-clad knight looks around, searching for something. 「Naiad. I thought she would be here. I came to apologize.」Miyako speaks up, and Khutulun casts her eyes down again.

Kaguya breaks the tense silence. 「Perdita is dead, Khutulun! There’s a boy that has Naiad now.

A boy~ Ahn~」 Her sadness is erased as easily as whiteboard marker. 「Where is he? Wei was never very fun. It’ll be good to have a real man on the watch.」 Whatever train of thought she had been trying to recapture is gone as simple as that.

Before you can follow that train of thought to something productive, the little tanuki girl takes a muffled gasp of breath as she softens from her sandstone form.「I think we should all change back, like the hatter guy said. Just... so everyone feels more s-safe. My Watch is done.」There’s a wash of violet light and the girl transforms into a college student, leaning heavily on an elbow crutch.

Ahn~ Who are you, Mr. tall dark and handsome?」 You probably could have guessed that would be her reaction.

Thankfully, the senior Shirakawa is able to keep her on topic with a curt「Khutulun!

Oh, yes. My watch is done.」The knight is bathed in a slate blue light, changing only slightly in build. This girl was only a few years older than her magical form, somewhere in her early twenties, although she dressed like a teenager in distressed, marked up denim. The weapons also underwent their own changes. The spear became a broom, and the claymore, something like a pool skimmer. The saxon at her side had become a kitchen knife, although the japanese blade set remained the same. It occurs to you that, among your cohorts, yours was perhaps the only trinket to undergo any physical change during your transformation.

Junpei:

When prissy-moon calls attention to her trinkets, the dragoon looks away.「I don’t... remember why they were so important. I have to keep them close now. I can’t lose any more.」 Her voice cracks and she stops to swallow. She really does sound like she could use a drink. She looks up at you before continuing. 「Yes... I think you’re right. I’ve been running all night from what was done... from what I did.」 Reminded of something, she looks around. 「Naiad. I thought she would be here. I came to apologize.」The girl in the back says something that makes you wince, but it only makes Kutulun look down again, her shoulders sagging, only looking up when the gold dabloon lady on the car speaks.

Prissy-moon speaks again in a mixture of shock and accusation. 「Perdita is dead, Khutulun! There’s a boy that has Naiad now.

A boy~ Ahn~」 The dragoon’s whole body shudders and she seems to regain her voice. The other half of what the girl said totally lost on her. 「Where is he? Wei was never very fun. It’ll be good to have a real man on the watch.

I think we should all change back, like the hatter guy said.」 The racoon is back to life, it would seem, and fighting for your cause, if a bit bluntly. 「 Just... so everyone feels more s-safe. My Watch is done.」The girl expands in a shower of violet light, returning to his normal, exotically-handsome-indian-guy form. The cane he had been holding has returned to crutch form.

Ahn~ Who are you, Mr. tall dark and handsome?」You never did like cliches.

Khutulun!」When prissy-moon shouts, the dragoon snaps back to attention.

Oh, yes. My watch is done.」In a shower of periwinkle light, the sex-mad dragoon shifts to what is presumably her natural form. Substantially less curvy, this twenty-something is kitted out like a roller derby queen in slashed denim and mismatched striped leggings. Suddenly, you recognize her. She’s the angsty girl from that band your brother likes. Okuda Kazue? A broom and net clatter to the floor behind her, and you realize her weapons have changed too.

Chrysanth:

There is a hesitation at the volley of accusations concerning her weapons.「I don’t... remember why they were so important. I have to keep them close now. I can’t lose any more.」 She pauses again, her muscles loose with fatigue. She doesn’t seem to be choosing her words, you’re growing more sure that you’re listening to her every thought. 「Yes... I think you’re right. I’ve been running all night from what was done... from what I did.」 That didn’t sound like a correction. There’s something more here. 「Naiad. I thought she would be here. I came to apologize.」She glances over her shoulder in your direction, and you can see a deep well of sadness. When the portal girl speaks, the knight turns back her way.

The prissy princess interrupts the thoughts brewing in those enchanting red eyes.「Perdita is dead, Khutulun! There’s a boy that has Naiad now.

Just like that it’s gone.「A boy~ Ahn~」 Her whole body tenses with lust. 「Where is he? Wei was never very fun. It’ll be good to have a real man on the watch.」 Every mention or sight of men does this to her. Every time she seems able to peer up from the abyss, that torrential reaction sweeps it away and her thoughts are dashed.

The pink sandstone crumbles against your fingers and Paresh returns with a gasp.「I think we should all change back, like the hatter guy said. Just... so everyone feels more s-safe. My Watch is done.」As the young man returns, you watch him closely for signs of the beating he took. He’s leaning pretty heavily on his crutch, but there’s no sign of blood or bruising. He slips something small into his jacket pocket.

Ahn~ Who are you, Mr. tall dark and handsome? You’re welcome to react to that one on your own terms.

Khutulun!」Kaguya shouts through grit teeth, her wand flicks uneasily in her hand.

Oh, yes. My watch is done.」When the blue light recedes, you notice something devastating. The lanky girl in denim before you stands with her hands on her elbows like she’s holding herself together. Her posture is defensive, cowed, weak, but her expression remains distracted and dull. You barely notice the broom and net falling to the floor, no longer threatening weapons. Although, your eyes are drawn to the incomplete set of swords still strapped behind her hip. Somehow, they seem less out of place now.

Juno:

Calling attention to her weapons makes the textbook definition of sexy frown. 「I don’t... remember why they were so important. I have to keep them close now. I can’t lose any more.」 Her voice cracks and her hand goes to her throat. She looks toward the bookworm and the hatter. 「Yes... I think you’re right. I’ve been running all night from what was done... from what I did.」 She casts about for a moment, looking lost. 「Naiad. I thought she would be here. I came to apologize.」The spook girl says something that makes poor Khutulun look even sadder. When you speak, she flashes you an appreciative smile.

There’s a moment of silence, which your mother breaks. 「Perdita is dead, Khutulun! There’s a boy that has Naiad now.

A boy~ Ahn~」 The knight’s hips thrust provocatively. 「Where is he? Wei was never very fun. It’ll be good to have a real man on the watch.」 Did... did she just ignore news that a friend of hers is dead?

A small voice speaks up from the back. 「I think we should all change back, like the hatter guy said. Just... so everyone feels more s-safe. My Watch is done.」 The little girl with the cane and scroll in the back of the alley transforms into a foreign college-aged man. He’s leaning on a crutch, and- yes, just there, he slipped something small, probably a flash drive, into the inside pocket of his school uniform. You didn’t see it, but that’s probably what it was if the delicious marzipan version was a scroll. It’s like the modern version of a scroll: a hand-held container of information. None of this seems like a logical leap to you.

Ahn~ Who are you, Mr. tall dark and handsome?」 You try very hard not to roll your eyes.

Khutulun!」Your mother snaps her out of her stupor before she says anything else dumb.

Oh, yes. My watch is done.」You feel a clutch at your heart as Khutulun transforms in a shower of periwinkle light. Tall, lithe, and distinctly flat-chested, seeing this goth punk badass only serves as a reminder that you haven’t heard from Yuki all day. The illusion is finally broken. This girl’s brand of manufactured disarray is pales in comparison to what makes Yuki so great. What does make Yuki so great?

Your stomach gurgles audibly as the spear and swords turn into a broom, knife, and pool skimmer, respectively. They’re more or less out of sight, but you’re still painfully aware of the one blade in the katana set that’s still active. She actually owns a three-blade set that’s actually significant to her. Your eyes flick back to the broom and skimmer. Something else is wrong here...

Naiad(?):

There is a gathering of energy around you, like the air pressure closing in, but that urgent sense of hush presses it down. Rather than being bathed in light and transformed by magic back to your truer, maler self, there is a tug on your clothes, and they unfold. The clean-cut military garb almost seems to turn inside out, replacing itself with layers of loose, filmy cloth. It’s some kind of blue patterned dress that barely reaches your knees, and a soft scarf that’s easily twice as long as you are tall. You’re suddenly aware of the stockings you’ve been wearing because they are blue now, and your shoes feel an inch more precarious. A shiver runs down your spine as your hair, previously tied in a bun, falls to your shoulders.

In the reflection on the ice machine’s door, you can see that your face seems more plain, less eerily perfect. The girl in the reflection looks a little rough around the edges, and clearly uncomfortable in a dress, but, in an unsettling way, she looks much less like a plastic costume pasted over ‘Alex’. She was also a bit older- a woman, rather than a girl. -and this woman’s bra was digging into her back like a devil. You’re not Alex, and you’re not Naiad, but who you are is beyond you.

Emi blinks, obviously impressed and confused. 「A-after him? Where-

Chou, by contrast, doesn’t miss a beat. 「Is this one of Mr. Zhou’s little errands? Is that why he’s out sick?」 The woman pauses, finding her manners.「Sauta Chou, hostess and administrator of the Wonderland Cafe.

You think you could push past the block on your transformation, but you would gain 1 Magic in the process, and maybe tear down whatever is suppressing magic in the building. As you are, you’re in a mundane form, just not your own. Logically, you should be able to get back to normal by calling to Naiad, then ending your watch somewhere else.

Juno's unease evaporates into an unimpressed frown after Khutulun's transformation. No longer distracted by the perfection granted by the magical girl form, Juno can now see how artificial and constructed all of Khutulun's movements are; she speaks like a character in some gross otaku game written by a man who has not spent enough time with women to know what they sound like.

Nothing Yuki does is off someone else's script. In the time Kiyomi has known her, she has never seen Yuki do something because she thought it would impress someone else; she lives for her own happiness, and for the people who make her happy. Kiyomi had always admired and envied that sincerity, though she could not admit it until very recently.

Junpei breathes the biggest sigh of relief he possibly could. Even then, it sounds like there's more that wants to come out. She was, admittedly, still armed, but...she didn't seem to mean harm. She was broken, confused, and surely in need of support...but she was honest. Honestly, it kind of hurt. This was an awful fate for anyone. At least, it seemed she hadn't bound her tears. It left her with at least SOME emotion, and of all the things he knew you might lose, it was the one he least wanted to.

Which was why it angered him to hear Miyako utter those words, and to see how Khutulun reacted. Possibly the only thing left to her, and it was driven in that direction. Unable to help himself, he snaps at Miyako. 「My dear masked maiden, how could you be so callous? She may not be whole, but CERTAINLY not empty. I dare say you meant insult!」 She...she just can't say that! ESPECIALLY with the knowledge she has.

As conversation progresses, the tone gets worse, and seeing things saddens him further. At the least, Paresh had done it, and he'd learned the words to change back. But as Khutulun's form shifts, surprise breaks his facade. 「Okuda Kazue...?」 She was a magical girl? It explained her disappearance, but...what happened? How did it get to this point? And...gah.

For now, he had a mood to lift. In comical fashion, he whispers to the white-haired girl. 「See those trinkets? Each hold a piece of her soul, and facets of her with them. It seems she only has some emotion left to her, so don't toy with it. She's only one trinket off being empty. Be gentle, and don't drive her to the last. Also, don't do that again! My heart stopped! Baka!」 From there, he bounds from one exaggerated gesture into another. 「Now that you're ready, we can't allow such thirst! Why not join our table? You're all invited!」 With a grand twirl, he gestures toward the cafe and tilts his head. 「Teeeeeea?」

A boy has Naiad now... She means Alex of course. So my theory is correct. Naiad, Chrysanth or the others, we are merely the newest hosts of these forms. Also they are only passed down upon the death of the previous host... and she killed her. She killed Perditia, that's what I saw.

As Chrysanth spoke Tiresias had to agree. She nodded even as Junpei censored the girl for her comment, after all she was right.

Kuthulun did murder one of her colleagues, at least, and most of her soul is in her trinkets. Is there any advantage to it? Maybe more power...

Then the tanuki girl proposed everyone to change back and Tiresias gasped silently as she saw one of her students emerge from her, after the initial surprise she sighed.

Someone else to worry about. Although, I wonder what he knows about all this. Miss Shirakawa seems invested and somewhat truthful but there is something hidden beneath the surface here. Maybe someone outside could help me figure things out completely.

Then the knight changed back into her girl form and Tiresias relaxed, she couldn't be sure that the knight was any less dangerous but at least in this form her magical powers were diminished.

As Tiresias saw the weapons revert to different items she paused for a moment. The trinkets of the knight morphed, much like her own and unlike what the other trinkets of her group did. What could it mean? Were those trinkets more tightly connected to magic? Did they have to change to have some functionality added to them? Another research topic for later.

Junpei then whispered to her and she nodded once more, the girl was evidently unbalanced there was no need to push her further in and maybe she did act a bit impulsively towards Junpei. She whispered back.

You're right, I'm sorry I'll be more careful but I must insist. She murdered one of her teammates, she is unstable and you are just a human after all and in constant danger in here, if you must continue your meddling you need to make the pact. For your own protection.

As Junpei invited everyone in she tucked her hair back into her hood and looked towards Paresh.

I can't turn back yet. I don't know my name.

Then a thought crossed her, usually people write their names in the first pages of the books they own. Maybe hers was there. She quickly opened her book and flipped through the first pages.

So much to say, sorry guys.

May let her have the argument, mostly because she didn't know that much about Harry Potter she was more of a Hobbit fan. "If I can teleport she shouldn't be too hard to find right? Does it have to be someplace I've been to or will pictures work?"

Sora and May: Leading the girls through the halls toward the library, Suzu shrugs. 「I’m not so well read on Moon Wardens, so I’m not sure how the effect interacts with Chell. Most of her texts are less history or myth and more prophesy and fiction. Iskandar was able to use a map, but I don’t know if that was because it gave them a sense of space, or what. You could try. I could point the place out on a map... roughly. My Mistress keeps a model of the town in the library, that should work nicely.

Alex starts to relax when the magic starts forming up. They've been through this thing once already, should be a piece of cake.

And then it really goes *wrong* and at that sense of being in a library or being watched by an older relative really begins to squish against it, the tolerable 'uniform' of whatever 'Navy' the magical form had altered to something beyond any reasonable expectation.

No, not, what the, clothes... gah, ugh, no. Stop! St...

The only thing that stops them from pushing back against that pressure is the understanding that just outside there is the potential of someone ready to murder them, if they hadn't already in some way, shape, or form.

Relax. You're going to be okay. You're just 'fitting in'. Take a deep breath. Don't scream. Let it out slowly. Smile to the nice people even if one of them was just threatening to cut you something fierce...

The woman takes a deep breath and lets it out slowly even as their eyes take in the appearance as altered to in the reflection. Their heart pounds for a few moments as the tides of magic attempt to calm themselves, to become the calm of the rocking ocean.

They try not to think too hard about how irritating that bra is, or how dangerously unstable the footing is, attempting to equate it to being at sea and the slight bouncing that mild weather causes to try and counterbalance the wobblieness.

We have to fix this somehow, this is definitely NOT right. But at least it shut up psycho mouse-girl, right? Wait, the older one is talking to us. Be polite, respectful, and... work with the local theme. Take a deep breath. Good. Let it out. Good. Now...

「Mr. Zhou? Yes, that would be part of that, yes.」 The now blue-clad woman pauses for a moment and lets out a small sigh. Can't believe this. Okay, come up with a name quick, say, with the clothes and the theme.

「Alice Lewis, an associate of Mr. Zhou's. Please forgive the mess and mayhem and confusion. Would it be inappropriate to ask for tea or coffee now?」

Don't scream. Keep focused. Hang on just a little bit longer...

Chrysanth feels a little less sure of her accusation as the genuine emotions simply flow across the knight's face with seemingly no filter between thought and word. The distinct lack of fear, and the staggering amount of trinkets still keeps her on edge, however. As the petite princess girl distracted Khutulun, and the woman's demeanor quickly shifts back to one of unsettling lust, Crysanth grimaces behind her mask.

Feeling the sandstone soften to flesh again, She turns her attention to Paresh, making sure the tanuki girl is alright after her moment of petrification. The suggestion to transform back seems reasonable, but she waits a while longer, giving the knight and the princess another glance. She turns her attention back to her friend just in time to see him return to his natural form, resting a hand on his shoulder and trying to give a reassuring smile in her ominous state.

As Khutulun is again distracted, this time by Paresh, Chrysanth grows defensive. She takes an unconscious step forward, positioning herself between the woman and the man she'd been calling friend for a week since midnight. She shot the knight a glare through the skull faced mask and watched her transform with a bit of prompting. The distracted and weak looking girl that replaces the lewdly dressed woman was far easier to empathize with, but the lack of shades orbiting the girl was still somehow unsettling.

「M-My Watch is Done.」 Chrysanth mururs as well, letting the haunted alter ego slough off of her in an ominous cloud of darkness that quickly abates, leaving her in her rather baggy clothes. With no reason to try and hide her hoodie anymore, she pulls it from her waist and slips it back on, covering even more of her figure and resting her hands, and trinket in its pocket, glancing to Paresh.
