Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Farrukh drops his bow, and 5 ft. steps in and up toward the Elemental.
"Let's deal with this thing quickly and then go after Ilthane!"
Cestus: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
Bash: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 16 ⇒ (5) + 16 = 21
Bash Iterative: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Pretty sure the Cestus and Iterative don't hit.
Dungeon Kobold |
Farrukh punches into the elemental with his klar, bashing away a portion of its fell form.
Round 2: Ilthane
Ilthane swoops down. "Why wait, Al'Khatel?"
Farrukh and Tanith realize almost too late that Ilthane the Black is coming towards them—and not slowing down.
Make Reflex saves.
The others watch as the dragon comes down, seeking to crush the two warriors beneath her bulk. They can see clearly now the teeming mass of crawling kobolds, whose legs seem almost fused to the back of the mighty black dragon.
Meanwhile, the elemental breath weapon rushes towards Eben MacTeague. He ducks under its swipe.
Slam: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (5) + 15 = 20
If Farrukh successfully makes his save, he may take an AoO.
Round 2: Robin is up!
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Wouldn't that Crush the elemental too? And wasn't Tanith further away from me a minute ago? He was 10 feet away from the Elemental (and 15 or more from me) when I took my turn, so she should only be able to crush me.
Robin O'Haranson |
Robin draws another arrow and squints. "Little far, chap, but we can make it..." He mumbles to himself. He turns to Bermintrude and the dogs. "Get away before that thing comes back." They're all too happy to oblige.
Hit: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
He throws his head back in frustration. "Should never have left the estate." He draws another arrow.
Hit: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
An improvement, but we'll have to do better than that. Robin prepares to rush closer and get a better shot.
Dungeon Kobold |
The arrows fly over Ilthane's back, nearly sticking one of her brood in the chest.
Round 3: Everyone Not Robin is up!
Astraden Limhaare |
No, Farrukh - though, it does look like your mini has been moved since last night. Go to File>See revision history>1:42 AM to see where Tanith moved himself (you might have to be logged in to Google Drive).
Astraden shudders when the stinking, terribly large dragon lands just a couple yard from her. Hands fumbling, she grasps her rapier's hilt, pulling out a shimmering, translucent blade. She lobs the pale rapier at the elemental accosting Eben, shouting, "Verhanel beran gortsaduli ir mejk’y!" and simultaneously splitting off her illusory double. Both versions of Astraden look unusually pale as they step closer to Ilthane.
Spiritual weapon: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24 Force, piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Round 3: Cast spiritual weapon (standard action), cast probably useless copycat (move action), and five-foot step (free action). Communal resist energy lasts 98 rounds on Lynwerd, Grifter, Carina, Eben, and Tanith and 198 rounds on Astraden and Rodrigo, prayer lasts 8 rounds, spiritual weapon lasts 9 rounds, and copycat lasts 7 rounds.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
I guess I'm waiting on the answer to Rynjin's question but assuming she does nail the both of us, does Tanith get an AoO?
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Ah, I see. I just thought there was a bigger difference between us since the gap was pretty wide before I moved.
Reflex: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
*SQUISH*
Dungeon Kobold |
Wouldn't that Crush the elemental too? And wasn't Tanith further away from me a minute ago? He was 10 feet away from the Elemental (and 15 or more from me) when I took my turn, so she should only be able to crush me.
And then the elemental moved. See Revision History if you're confused—Tanith was further away, then he moved up "within range" of the elemental. The elemental is fully outside the range of the crushing, even before it moved to attack Eben.
And no, Tanith does not get an AoO. Make sure to roll the save in your post, by the way, if you're still online.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Sorry, I immediately jumped into a meeting after that post.
Reflex: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11
Tanith is far too slow to evade the plummeting dragon.
It's worth noting that dragons usually have to be three size categories larger than victims to crush them. I assume Ilthane is an especially hefty huge but don't ever tell a lady-dragon that.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
I always assumed that it was common knowledge that talking about a lady-dragon’s weight was taboo.
Does this pinned function like normal grappling pinned? Can we attempt to reverse/break free as normal?
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
”Farrukh!”, Tanith grunts as he discards his useless poleaxe and tries to get a firm grip on one of the dragon’s claws. ”Pull when I push…”
Delaying for a potential assist from Farrukh and/or other buffs.
The idea of a dragon overpowering him triggers a bit of Kord’s righteous fury in the big man and his thickly muscled form swells with power as he pushes back in an effort to upend the monstrous menace.
Rage and Strength Surge.
Reverse Grapple (rage, blessing, haste): 1d20 + 20 + 2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 20 + 2 + 4 + 1 = 42
Action Point: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) = 5
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Oh, no. The AP makes the roll a 46 (potentially more if Farrukh ends up aiding).
Farrukh Al'Khatel |
Ah. Thought everyone else still needed to go, since I just attacked the Elemental, and then was crushed.
"You got it big guy!"
Assist: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21
Dungeon Kobold |

With Farrukh's help, Tanith grabs ahold of Ilthane's leg. He pulls her off of him and seizing onto her.
"Aagh! Let go, you grasping fool!"
On Ilthane's turn, she will lose control of Farrukh as well and he can shake the pinned condition.
Eben, Carina and Rodrigo are up!
Rodrigo Dantares |
"Wrestling a dragon? Hawt...we could make a show out of this. Train a bunch of gnome wizards to scry us and then sit in boxes in people's houses and make illusions of what we're doing. It'd be MASSIVE!" Rodrigo exclaims to himself. Then he realizes that while what he's seeing is cool, it's also RIGHT F%+~ING THERE. The nobleman snaps back to the fight, and withdraws carefully from the situation.
Full round withdrawl.
Carina Viera |
Round 3: Actions
Move Action: Move forward 2 squares
Standard Action: Drink false life extract
Carina moves forward 10 feet to keep the link between herself & Tanith alive, drinking a dark grey extract as she goes.
Temp HP: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
79/80 Rounds: Fly
8 Hours: False Life
Eben MacTeague |
As the lurching wave of elemental acid sweeps towards Eben, he pulls off a dodge that's a mixture of a pirouette and a somersault. The end result leaves him not only untouched by the oozy thing, but somehow even further from it than the monstrosity had intended.
Using a panache point and an immediate action (on the elemental's turn) to use the Dodging Panache deed; this leaves me 5 feet further back from where I started. Normally it would also add +3 to my AC vs the attack, but that's moot here.
"I've got this! You guys take care of Filthy Ilthy!" he calls to the group surrounding the dragon. He takes another cautious step back, then drops his glass rod at his feet and proceeds to unleash the mother lode of arrows at the elemental.

5-foot step, full attack on acid monster, re-enter dance of 23 steps.
Good hope lasts 78 rounds (Astraden, Carina, Eben, Tanith), moment of greatness lasts 78 rounds (Astraden, Carina, Eben, Tanith), cat's grace lasts 79 rounds, haste lasts 7 rounds (Carina, Eben, Tanith).
AC is 27/20/18 while haste and Dance of the 23 Steps are active.
Edit: just realized I was failing to include Astraden's prayer. Adjusted for the lack therof.
Eben MacTeague |
Never edit when sleepy! Damage on the haste shot above should be 11, not 20, if it hits. (Missed putting a + in when adding in the prayer +1, so it became +11. Oops.)
Dungeon Kobold |
Technically speaking, Eben, didn't that total action move you back fifteen feet?
Round 3: Ilthane
Ilthane lets out another roar as the very last arrow pierces her haunch. "You shall find wrestling a dragon to be a poor prospect indeed, spawn of the Wyrmbreaker!"
She lays into the godling, striking with supernatural swiftness.
Claw/grappled claw/bite/wing/wing/tail/haste bite: 1d20 + 28 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (19) + 28 + 1 - 2 = 461d20 + 29 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 29 + 1 - 2 = 441d20 + 23 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 23 + 1 - 2 = 371d20 + 23 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 23 + 1 - 2 = 251d20 + 23 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 23 + 1 - 2 = 281d20 + 29 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 29 + 1 - 2 = 41
Claw/Bite/Wing/Bite damage: 2d6 + 10 + 2d8 + 15 + 1d8 + 5 + 2d6 + 15 + 2d8 + 15 ⇒ (6, 1) + 10 + (4, 5) + 15 + (2) + 5 + (1, 3) + 15 + (2, 2) + 15 = 86
Her maw also pours acid onto him, practically marinating him in her burning fluid. It damages his clothes some, but slides off of the warded Kordson himself without injury.
Unfortunately, her claws, teeth, and constricting tail are quite another matter. Ilthane the Black isn't able to escape Tanith's iron grip. She doesn't even try. She just starts ripping him to pieces.
Assuming Tanith's AC and HP are up-to-date, and he's not got any defensive spells not listed in his profile, that puts Tanith at -14.
"Slave! Slay that archer, or by the Withering Fire, you will exit the other end next time!"
The elemental rushes at Eben, but the bard dances out of the way. Giving what sounds like a growl, it continues oozing south and strikes once at him.
Slam: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (15) + 15 = 30 Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (6, 3) + 4 = 13
The acid doesn't even sting him, but the punches themselves don't exactly tickle.
By the way, Farrukh is no longer pinned.
Round 3: Robin is up.
Dungeon Kobold |
Also, isn't Rod invisible?
Shield Other doesn't benefit the caster. Only Carina's getting the bonus to AC and all that.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
And that boys and girls is why grapple is a terrible combat maneuver.
Too busy accepting the dragon's refusal to wrestle properly as admission of defeat, Tanith barely notices the horrific wounds he's suffered or the fact that his kilt has been melted away by acid.
Tanith's AC is 30 currently but he's also got rage and bear's endurance HP so he should be at 22.
Dungeon Kobold |
Is that including the penalty to AC for grappling? Granted, you by RAW don't get that since you add Strength instead of Dex, but I doubt that's exactly intended. :P
Also, while I doubt it's able to make the one miss a hit, does your rage affect your AC? I can never tell where to look to see how your abilities function. :P
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
No, that doesn't include penalties for grapple. I usually just ignore them because whenever you grapple you just get full attacked in the face (see exhibit A). Rage is a wash for Tanith's AC. The penalty is canceled by the strength boost. It's still not quite as good as being an urban barbarian (whose AC actually goes up when he's raging) but it's close.
Is that including the penalty to AC for grappling? Granted, you by RAW don't get that since you add Strength instead of Dex, but I doubt that's exactly intended. :P
I seriously hadn't considered that. Bonus!
Rynjin |
Did you factor in Ilthane's -2 to-hit for being Grappled? If not (or Tanith retains his extra Str to AC), the 28 misses as well.
And yeah, Grappling is pretty much strictly "monster only" unless everyone you fight is a humanoid. All it does is waste your action to give them a full attack at no penalty (their -2 to-hit is negated by your -2 to AC, so it just gimps the grappler).
Eben MacTeague |
Technically speaking, Eben, didn't that total action move you back fifteen feet?
Technically, yes, but it's also technically the result of two five foot steps taken at different times. The move is borderline obnoxious, I'll admit, but legal.
By the way, you seem to have resolved my attacks against Ilthane rather than the elemental.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
That's probably better for us anyway. Elementals tend to have really good DR.
Astraden Limhaare |
I got a TWENTY-SEVEN on my Knowledge roll. We'd know if it had DR. Also, Ilthane MAY have been in radius for prayer - I'll check when I get out of class.
Olidammara's force-blade continues striking at the elemental.
Spiritual weapon: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21 Force, piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Spiritual weapon: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Force, piercing: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Actions pending Tanith's response.
Dungeon Kobold |
Astraden knows it has DR 5/-. It is essentially a fire elemental without fire.
Did you factor in Ilthane's -2 to-hit for being Grappled? If not (or Tanith retains his extra Str to AC), the 28 misses as well.
Yes, I did. You can see the -2 in Ilthane's rolls. The damage rolled is the damage dealt.
Amended the damage placements.
Astraden is not up yet. She already moved this round.
Robin O'Haranson |
Robin heads forward fifteen feet south and gauges the distance between himself and the huge mass of lizard death. He turns to Bermintrude and shouts. "Bermintrude! Sink your hooves in, chap!"
Hooves of Fury: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (6) + 16 = 22
Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Robin doesn't look in case Bermintrude does better than him, and loosens an arrow at the dragon himself.
Action Point to Hit: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10
Hit: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Dungeon Kobold |
Thanks to Bermintrude keeping the dragon distracted, and some lingering heroic spirit, Robin manages to sink an arrow into Ilthane's tail. Ilthane snarls. "I grow tired of this mosquito's presence."
Round 4: Carina, Eben, Tanith, Rodrigo, Farrukh and Astraden are up!
Astraden Limhaare |
Nope, she wasn't in range for prayer. Also, I keep forgetting I'm actually a better healer with channels than with spells . . .
Astraden's hand begins shaking as she sees Tanith - TANITH - nearly killed by the rampaging dragon. She grips her mask tightly, and two quick waves of positive energy wash over her friend, setting his hair on end from the power.
x2 healing combob: 6d6 + 6d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 3, 6, 4, 1) + (1, 6, 6, 6, 2, 4) = 49 [7/9] [3/6] Excluding Ilthane and Acid Elemental, of course.
Round 4: Spend an action point for Quick Channel (no action), channel positive energy to heal (standard action), and quick channel positive energy to heal (move action). Communal resist energy lasts 97 rounds on Lynwerd, Grifter, Carina, Eben, and Tanith and 197 rounds on Astraden and Rodrigo, prayer lasts 7 rounds, spiritual weapon lasts 8 rounds, and copycat lasts 6 rounds.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
Hurray, I'm outside rage-hitpoints! Thanks Astraden.
Interestingly enough, it's the healing energy coursing through Astraden and mending his ruined body that makes Tanith realize how badly injured he is but, with his pectoral once again fixed in place to his torso, the big Kordite works to earn his friends an opening. He roars as he heaves on the dragon's trapped claw and wrestles it up next to her neck, trapping her in a highly improvised triangle-choke. "And this mosquito's heard enough out of you."
Pin (rage, haste, good hope, prayer): 1d20 + 20 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 20 + 5 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 51
Ki point for insight bonus to AC and, just because I feel like it might come up, spend an AP for raging vitality.
Dungeon Kobold |
Can you please post the CMD Ilthane needs to target so we don't have another Swallow Whole clusterf~&*?
Ilthane writhes in Tanith's grasp, but through some insane mix of sheer strength and luck gods' blessings, she cannot break free.
Tanith 'Kordson' Creed |
See discussion!
Also, Tanith doesn't have Swallow Whole. Yet.
Rodrigo Dantares |
Rodrigo whistles and a portal to the celestial prehistoric savanna opens up. A roar precedes the entrance of one of the summoner's feline friends. Claws and teeth gleaming with golden celestial energy, the dire lion leaps into the fray, and onto the squirming koboldy mass of Ilthane's back.
Summon dire lion.
