"So their homeworld, more likely than not? That is...troubling."

That is, apparently, the name of the place where Starro is from. I guess the 60's were simpler times.

Kara seems visibly shaken, but takes a moment to calm herself. 'Okay, everyone, this kinda verifies what we already know. Lord Starro is controlling the star...thingys. And they are digging out a kind of ship, and the ship has the portal, and the portal is the portal that will bring Lord Starro here is in the ship that they are digging out....under a log in the bottom of the seaaaaaaaaaa.

So, it means we've got time.

Also, dman, dudes, getting that thing off her face was -hard-. I don't....I think stopping Lord Starro needs to be the priority here. Only -after- we've stopped Lord Starro from coming can we be worried about limiting collateral damage.

You can see to your own priorities, but LexCorp assumes no responsibility for damages incurred to persons under control of a third party.

Whew. Alright, _now_ we can get going.'

She spends a moment looking at Captain Aterro. When he silently nods, the topic of their conversation is obvious.

Sinter flies toward the ocean floor, feeling the steadily increasing pressure. Below him, he begins to see dim lights. At first he thinks it is a trick of the pressure on his eyes, but then he remembers he doesn't exactly have eyes.

Spread out below him is a seemingly infinite field of mud and rocks. Here and there, vents of black boiling water shoot into the colder water. They look a bit like oil geysering out of a Texas prairie. Strange lights like the bulbs of angler fish dot the area, providing a weak light.Exposed in the mud is a ring that must be 100o feet across, made of a glimmering silver metal.

Like worker ants, Starrophyte infested Atlanteans flit about.

As he watches, Leviathan and Manta sink towards the floor. Strangely, none of the beasts or Atlanteans rise to resist them. Sinter watches in growing horror as the metallic tentacles of the Leviathan extend toward the ring, each tentacle finding some sort of port in the ring and snapping into it, as though they were made for each other. The portal begins to shimmer more quickly, and glow more intensely. It rises slowly out of the muck, and perhaps something begins to quicken within its boundaries, a strangely flat surface that wavers and flickers.

A bubble of water churns angrily as Kara refreshes the adrenal boost on the squad members. Frenzied thought-grams go back and forth, but, even behind their helmets, all who see them know they share a single thought.

"Affirmative. Whatever it takes.

The LexSec fly/swim down to the Leviathan, separating out and heading for where a limb connects to the body. If one looked closely enough, they could see the times on the plastic explosive are already set.

The countdown begins, so not even their deaths can stop the great Lord Exothermia from holding court.

***"Mayday! Mayday!"*** Kara frantically calls out over her comm back to LexCorp HQ. "Leviathan is full compromised! Repeat: Leviathan is FULL compromised by a third party NOT of the original contract signer! Unable to regain control! Blow now! I say again blow now!

Giving it off as a low-probability, Kara falls back on what she knows.

Took me a bit to see if i.could perform this action in one round, or if it ran afoul of Array limitations. Looks like it will work.

Shale phases through the hull of Manta's sub once again, and moves virtually instantaneously to a point just above the partially buried ring, beneath the belly of the leviathan. Once reaching this starting position, he lashes out with blinding speed. Lashing out with his oversized sword, he moves rapidly from target to target, striking at each of the Leviathan's tentacles, attempting to sever them from the main body of the automaton. Along the way, he strikes at Mantis and any of his troops in the water, seeking to disable the villains.

This is the Rapid Attack ability, allowing him to make a melee attack at each target in a 75ft radius. As the ring is 100ft across, he should be able to reach every point of the ring, given his starting position at the center. While the Leviathan was previously being treated as a single entity, it seems appropriate given the situation and size differences to treat each tentacle as a separate target. Since his main target is the limbs, and they are likely hard to miss given their current docking maneuver, he'll power attack, changing that he'll likely miss Manta as a result.

Shale zips about in fine Anime fashion, speed lines flashing as he lashes out at the tentacles, severing each of them in turn.

At the same moment, LexCorp failsafes implanted into the Leviathan are activated, exploding across and within the alien construct, sending pieces of it winging past you and in all directions.

Unfortunately, the necessary energy has already been infused. The flat field within the ring solidifies, and through it pours some sort of psionic energy. From all directions pour starrophytes, swirling in the center like horrifying sea monkeys. The galaxy of star fish congeal into a massive creature from beyond your nightmares.

A bit of metagaming here. So far, you have mostly been fighting things at or below your PL, so you've been fine just thwacking them. This thing is fighting out of your weight class. It is your first real team challenge. Using some of the cooperative stuff in the combat chapter is probably desirable.

Oddly, Sinter also feels the sensation, but since it doesn't bother him as much, he also can -just- make out a far-off sweet voice saying, "Welcome to LexCorp. Soul-splice engaged." The phrase is meaningless, but seems to hint that the power bases itself on more than simple biology.

Shale sees the creature forming, and decides to strike as it is still forming. He blazes by the creature, striking with his sword, returning to a position that will allow him to be within Kara's sphere of influence in order to receive whatever kind of enhancement she has in mind.

He goes first, so he'll hit it fast and return to get the buff(s) on Imagine and Dolnam's turns.

"I will strike it hard. Imagine, if there is anything you can do to shield us from this being's potential psychic influences, it would be appreciated."

Shale is not really any more resilient to Mind-based attacks than your average Tank-character. Having him taken over by the enemy might be less than ideal for our side.

1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
That is a potential Critical for Shale, if it hits, and if the Starrobeast is vulnerable to criticals. I couldn't remember how sophisocated starfish physiology is, so I looked it up, and it looks like they do still have distinct internal organs, so I would think if his physiology is similar to theirs, he should still be vulnerable to such things.

The strange starfish amalgam ripples like a seahorse in labor. For a moment, you are convinced he is going to eject thousands of spores, but in fact it emanates an alternate reality. Waves of energy roll out from the massive humanoid Starro. The water around you warms and infused with a faint light, light that somehow comes from the creature even though it does not glow.

Then, its attention is drawn to the small plasma man nearby. Its massive central eye focuses its attention on Sinter. The thousands of starfish undulate and the huge thing floats toward Sinter, arms outstretched toward him. The arms flail near Sinter, but it seems unable to control its appendages for the moment.

That done, Kara, not really having a mental 'reading' on Mantis's sub, just uses the radio.

[to Mantis' sub:]"Oh hi! Hey guys. Um, look, your old boss, he turned. He's arrested now. Forget about him. Some of my boys are gonna come in and look after your boat. We're gonna get you back to the States. Lex-Corp is gonna debrief you all and we'll see what we can do.

Or you could be obstinate and -not- open the door. In which case we're gonna MAKE a door. And we'll still do everything I just said, just with a lot more punching. And drowning. There'd be that on account of all the water pouring in after the plastic explosive.

Dolnam snaps a finger, and an elaborate cage of force constructs itself around Manta. His hands and feet are encased in globes, then trapped inside larger globes, keeping them together but separate. Lines of force run between them, drawing Manta's arms and legs behind his back and holding them rigidly there while he is also muzzled, blindfolded, ears covered, and uncomfortably scrunched by the restraints.

The restraints are tethered at multiple points of contact to the inside of another sphere of force, tethered and nestled inside a cube, and then a diamond. All three shapes spin independently, keeping Manta disoriented for the trip. The cage moves wherever Dolnam moves, maintaining a distance of 15 feet from him at all times.

Spending another point of Luck on Crate Object 11 (with the Tether and Precise Feats).

"Thank you for your aid."
