Beloved Replacement Do you like the option posts like I did on round 6? They are very useful for folks in the shallow end of the initiative pool but some gm's see it as metagaming. In my view they also speed play and reduce confusion by preventing the need to 'correct' declared actions that no longer make sense. Your view? Kosher or verboten?

That's absolutely fine with me.

Ahhhhhghhhhh! Fricken Untrusting, annoying, self-absorbed f'n Inquisitors....
LMFAO! Great job with Rendel so far!! Considering his nature, here's some things he's noticed:
1) Mr. Smith, Madeline's manservant, doesn't speak. More to the point, he seems a little strange. Unlike all of you, he didn't sweat in battle. At all. Also, he didn't bleed normally like the rest of you.
2) The wolves, when you cleaned them, had a dull, almost lifeless look in their eyes. They may have been natural creatures at birth, but what attacked you was slightly different, at least in spirit.

I just kind of wish our other game wasn't sooooooo...uninteresting.
Yeah, It doesn't seem like the DM is really involved. I actually don't expect it to last much longer unless it turns around. On the other hand I'm in what looks to be a fun home-brew "Expedition to the north." My abyssal blooded CN Chelaxian Noble is currently having a lovely time baiting a wannabe Order of the Claw inquisitor. So far I have called him "tool" and "pawn" to his face. We are both having a wonderful time. A couple of the players rarely post so drop out's may occur. Might want to take a lurk. Feel free to read all my spoilers.

Sounds fun. I'll go take a look and drop an app when and if someoen drops.

I suppose we could ask him what all his plans are and whether he has a pretty detailed thing going on or he's just makign it up as he goes. Which is sort of the vibe im getting.

I think you might ahve to seriously think about how you're going to explain to rendel how you've been runnin around training militias and became a paladin in a highly organized and rigidly militarized church at the ripe young age of twenty.
If he wasn't so obsessed with supernatural evils Creel would probably find himself answering some very hard questions.

Ah, forgot to change the default age. Mind you the powers might have sent Creel out using the same logic of throwing a child into a river to teach her how to swim. He annoyed his instructors enough that they "promoted" him to make him go away.
Or perhaps Creel isn't part of the same church? Are there sects in the larger organization? Strange holy men/women in the forest/swamps? Or maybe he washed out. Maybe he is not 'officially' a paladin.
Alternately, what is the right age for someone say a year out of the chapter-house? I was thinking the age was fine as Creel is basically the fresh young Lt.in Vietnam war movies who get's in WAY over his head until he starts listening to the experienced enlisted men. That's if he doesn't get fragged.

Works for me. Course Creel just thinks it's a grand idea. He gets to HELP people.
Much like Groo in that.

So theres a bit of a debate going on trying to figure out whether the intimidate skill works on intelligent undead. Considering Rendels focus (which I have yet to put to good use!)I'd very much like to hear the gm's opinion on this.
I'd like to say the idea of rendel putting the fear of Rendel (because death is a pussy) into a ghoul amuses me greatly.
TheReplacementGM |
In other news, you might want to choose your words a little more carefully around Kendra or any other grieving daughter...... Don't take it personal, but she's about to unleash on you!!!!
TarkXT |
That makes two of us. That makes twice now she's run off with a childish tantrum while Rendel is very carefully explaining that actually possessing a book about necromancy while your father stands accused of necromancy is a very very dangerous thing. Then of course we have his actual purpose. At least her father got a funeral...
TarkXT |
To Rendal Well that was ... unfortunate.
Depends on your view point. Do you want to have her there when and f we find out her father was looking to make a booty call to Urgathoa?
Also, pardon my meta, but theres more than one of us here. IF Rendel sleeps in the rain for telling it how it is so the actual faces in the party can smooth her feathers and translate Rendels a#&&+*# speech into dumb wench then it works for everyone.

Three things:
1) You are "assuming" that in Ustalav, possession of these books could result in the actions you've suggested. This may or may not be true. Certainly, this is what Rendel believes and is telling people, but that doesn't make it the truth. Rendel might be surprised to find out that libraries all over have (albeit it under lock and key) similar books.
2) While you realize he was accused of necromancy by 5-6 people, you don't know if that's the case for the whole town. In fact, Rendel (and the rest of the group) has seen little of the town and has no idea what it might hold.
3) Again, no one has done any research and doesn't know Kendra. Kendra, you might all remember, isn't a dumb girl. She's definitely not a "dumb wench" and her father loved her deeply.
Feel free to ask me questions out of character to get better knowledge, too!
Cheers,
Jaye

RGM: Hey, it occurred to me I should probably ask you if the scene I am doing is okay. Vaghn's words are building a backstory wherein he was closer to the Professor and Kendra than perhaps is okay for the AP. If so, let me know and I will retcon it. If it is okay, I have (apparently) decided Vaghn was an orphan whom the Professor took under his wing (not raised, some orphanage, church, or perhaps the University itself did that; if there is something appropriate in the AP that would work well with the story let me know!). Vaghn looked up to the Professor as a father figure and role model, and fell hopelessly in love with Kendra at first sight. He has never told her this, and it is entirely up to you (and her Sense Motive score!) if she realizes it, or how she feels about him or his feelings. In case it has not become obvious, I am a big-time role player, and love a complex background and character relationships/interactions! I can't wait for the story to progress!
Tark: Haha, I cannot wait for our characters to interact a bit more. I have the feeling they, too, will be a bit tense, even though Vaghn normally likes everybody. You mentioned burning books! :p

I think the point Rendel was trying to make was that people are a paranoid and easily frightened lot that tend to respond in large numbers with fire and pitchforks.
2) While you realize he was accused of necromancy by 5-6 people, you don't know if that's the case for the whole town.
True, but we haven't really gotten a chance to either. And now we've stumbled on a box-o-evil and people already distrust us just for being strangers.
3) Again, no one has done any research and doesn't know Kendra. Kendra, you might all remember, isn't a dumb girl. She's definitely not a "dumb wench" and her father loved her deeply.
I know she is sensitive but the trouble is everytime she's talked to Rendel she's thrown a tantrum and ran off throwing insults rather than answers and reasoned argument. It's not that Rendel's difficult to convince it's that she hasn't even tried. Heck, he hasn't even gotten a chance to apologize. He's not even sure he should. At this point he'll probably actively avoid her to keep from having her in his way.
In fact Creel did a better job of it. Yes Creel, who Rendel already distrusts and suspects isn't a paladin at all, did a better job of easing his tension about the books than his own daughter. That's a scary thought.
tl;dr ty for the info but i can only act on in-game knowledge and assumptions. So being the jittery monkey that I am I'll err on the side of not getting me killed.
TheReplacementGM |
And so far, yes, I'm definitely digging the arc you are building. Very cool.
As for tantrums, her dad hasn't been in the ground a day. I wouldn't call them tantrums, especially when in each occurrence you implied the towns folk were right and that maybe her dad was less than noble....
As for the, "you might be in danger arc", I'll remind you that Rendel never identified the danger and Kendra took the time to hear him out. But you can blame bad diplomacy rolls on that...
Just saying...
AsmodeusUltima |
No problem, I will try to curb my enthusiasm enough to make sure I don't add in anything that will make things difficult for you. Character backstory is supposed to help the GM after all.
...beg the question; why weren't you in his Will?
Vaghn was not raised by the Professor, who had no time for such things. Rather, he was an orphan taken under the wing of and taught by the Professor. Vaghn looked at him as a father, but Lorrimor probably looked at him as just another, albeit very bright, student.
Also, that Will seemed to be calling for adventurers. Perhaps he figured that Vaghn was not ready for the sort of danger that this mission would call for. Or perhaps he had a different task in mind for Vaghn, and the letter simply got misfiled somewhere at the University. :P

I'm personally a fan of the idea that you got it but its sitting inside an overfull inbox including several months back pay and various letters from secret admirers.
