Still here and waiting to finish eradicating these pesky undead. I am glad that things have slowed a little as I have spent the past month moving my family across the country. Not easy with two kids and a spouse and way too much furniture/stuff.

Good luck with it. So the break has been a win-win for everyone. ;-)

Sorry I've been distant guys. I was terribly busy in the States and really overwhelmed. I arrived in Kuwait last night and will be playing catch up this week.

Hello all and welcome back, Jason.

Just finished my trip yesterday with a dreadful 7 hour delay for my flight. But otherwise it was a good trip with stops for relatives, gaming, barbecue, and beer.

Random bit of trivia, I often scour old/half-price bookshops for novels or D&D stuff. Came across and read this novel by Andre Norton. While the novel itself isn't that great, its kind of a unique relic when you realize that she wrote it in 1978 when D&D was still considered more of a variation miniatures war-game. Heck - the fact that she consulted Gary Gygax for reference is just amazing considering how far the game has come. Modern copies often refer to it as the first D&D novel, though that's a loose interpretation I would say. I understand that she eventually came back to it and you can actually find both it and a sequel novel on Amazon Kindle/E-book. Still - it's kind of interesting to read an original physical copy from 1978-9.

Anyhow - hope everyone is well as I settle back in.

A blood-stained handaxe (+1), a collection of holy symbols (foci device), moldy spellbook, tarnished silver flute, and a finely wrought smith's hammer.

I added the wand of hold person to my inventory as well. Definitely feel under-equipped for 4th level, but I feel that actually fits the mood of the campaign. Nothing removes the feeling of horror more than striding in glowing from head to toe in magical gear.

I think the term is "gritty", this campaign just has that feel. Even the mid-speed pace of the campaign has a dark feel about it. I am liking it though.

Tomb of Horrors would be easier in PF as I do not think they have demi-liches here. Oh, wait, are you referring to the 10000000000 traps before you get to the demi-lich, Yeh, that might be troublesome.

Okay, since Alexa brought it up I decided to do a bit of number-crunching for Madeline (I'm an accountant; auditing is what I do :P).

For Madeline herself:

  • missing +1 stat from reaching level 4 (Bump that Cha to 17!)
  • missing half-elf Skill Focus (and if you took an alternate racial trait, such as Ancestral Arms to become proficient in that Piston Hammer, it isn't noted)
  • your Will save should be +3 instead of +2
  • you have three more skill points to spend (at least, see next note).

For Favored Class bonuses, I assumed that for your three levels of Summoner you chose +1/4 Evolution (putting you at 3/4 currently, Smith gets a bonus point next time you level as Summoner), and for the Fighter level you took a hit point, putting you at the listed 25. If I am incorrect, you either need to adjust hp or skill points to reflect where you put this bonus. Also, technically the version of Heirloom Weapon trait you are using is outdated, but since that is the version that was available when the character was created I assume RGM is cool with it. If not, may require a bit of fiddling.

For Smith: Looks like you forgot to level him last time you leveled yourself.

  • His HD should be 3d10+3, hp 19
  • Natural armor went up by another 2, putting his AC at 17
  • His Str and Dex go up one each, to 17 and 13 respectively
  • His BAB is +3, CMB +6, CMD 17
  • All his saves should be one higher than you have listed, so F+4, R+2, W+3
  • And he has 7 skill points unspent, as well as a feat (note that Evasion is not a feat, but an ability naturally gained by all eidolons).

This is just based on 15 minutes with HeroLab; if you have any questions, please let me know. Hope I've been helpful, and happy gaming!

HP: 28 / 28, Init:+3, Perc:+7,AC:16,Fort:+3,Ref:+4,Will:+3

Again, I apologize for not having Madeline or Smith up to scratch.

Indeed, my friends and I are saving the money to buy Hero-lab having seen how much of a help it is in generating/maintaining a character.

Much thanks for people's time and effort in helping me along. Madeline is the first and so far only Summoner I've every played, so the learning etc is still actually kind of happening. Plus, there have been new rules created and errata'd since the game began.

SO, a question for the DM?

Should I go ahead and put Madeline and Smith up to the specs as detailed by AsmodeusUltima and then factor in the penalties etc?

Also, sorry for my posting being erratic, but so is my work schedule. A seven week, rolling roster is actually very little fun.

I can look in from the phone during most shifts. But actually having the long amount of time to character edit is something that is snatched between shifts and other wise living.

I shall endeavor to lift Madeline's game in the future. Looking forwards to further correspondence with folks.

Much cheers to all.

Dark Archive

No worries, and in fact my pleasure. If you like, I would even be willing to write up the formatted info that you could copy and paste to make your character sheet like Vaghn's. I like things to be nice and tidy. :)

HP: 28 / 28, Init:+3, Perc:+7,AC:16,Fort:+3,Ref:+4,Will:+3

*Bows*

I humbly accept your hospitality with much thanks.

Will also be looking forwards to the DM's adjudications.

Much cheers and best wishes to all.

Dark Archive

That works for me. Asmo, level it and pass it along to her.

Dark Archive

Okay, all typed up in Notepad, but cannot just post here without the formatting being hidden by, well, taking effect. Rather than making you search through the page source to copy the html, Madeline, do you have an email address I can send it to? Then you can simply copy and paste directly into your and Smith's profiles.

Dark Archive

When finished it should look something like this (Note, I had to take liberties with unassigned skill points, Smith's feat, equipment, etc. Also had Smith carry most of your equipment so that you and he are both at light encumbrance; even with a masterwork backpack, 10 strength doesn't allow you to carry much!):

SPECIAL QUALITIES:
Life Link (Su): Starting at 1st level, a summoner forms a close bond with his eidolon. Whenever the eidolon takes enough damage to send it back to its home plane, the summoner can, as a free action, sacrifice any number of hit points. Each hit point sacrificed in this way prevents 1 point of damage done to the eidolon. This can prevent the eidolon from being sent back to its home plane.
In addition, the eidolon and the summoner must remain within 100 feet of one another for the eidolon to remain at full strength. If the eidolon is beyond 100 feet but closer than 1,000 feet, its current and maximum hit point totals are reduced by 50%. If the eidolon is more than 1,000 feet away but closer than 10,000 feet, its current and maximum hit point totals are reduced by 75%. If the eidolon is more than 10,000 feet away, it is immediately returned to its home plane. Current hit points lost in this way are not restored when the eidolon gets closer to its summoner, but its maximum hit point total does return to normal.
Summon Monster I (Sp): Starting at 1st level, a summoner can cast summon monster as a spell-like ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + his Charisma modifier. Drawing upon this ability uses up the same power as the summoner uses to call his eidolon. As a result, he can only use this ability when his eidolon is not summoned. He can cast this spell as a standard action and the creatures remain for 1 minute per level (instead of 1 round per level). At 3rd level, and every 2 levels thereafter, the power of this ability increases by one spell level, allowing him to summon more powerful creatures (to a maximum of summon monster IX at 17th level). At 19th level, this ability can be used as gate or summon monster IX. If used as gate, the summoner must pay any required material components.
A summoner cannot have more than one summon monster or gate spell active in this way at one time. If this ability is used again, any existing summon monster or gate immediately ends. These summon spells are considered to be part of his spell list for the purposes of spell trigger and spell completion items. In addition, he can expend uses of this ability to fufill the construction requirements of any magic item he creates, so long as he can use this ability to cast the required spell.
Bond Senses (Su): (3r/day) Starting at 2nd level, a summoner can, as a standard action, share the senses of his eidolon, hearing, seeing, smelling, tasting, and touching everything the eidolon does. He can use this ability a number of rounds per day equal to his summoner level. There is no range to this effect, but the eidolon and the summoner must be on the same plane. The summoner can end this effect as a free action.

Oh, and RGM, after reading Ultimate Campaign I thought the following adjustments might be appropriate if you are okay with it. Works within the story established thus far, and helps make up for the lack of rogue in the party:

Drawback: Attached (Kendra): You have a strong emotional attachment to a person or object that you're terrified of losing. The GM chooses the object of your attachment. Whenever the object of your attachment is either threatened, in danger, or in someone else's possession, you take a —1 penalty on Will saves and a —2 penalty on saves against fear effects. If the person or object to which you're attached is ever lost, killed, or destroyed, exchange this drawback for the Doubt drawback.

3rd Trait: Vagabond Child (Disable Device): You grew up among the outcasts and outlaws of your society, learning to forage and survive in an urban environment. Select one of the following skills: Disable Device, Escape Artist, or Sleight of Hand. You gain a +1 trait bonus on checks with that skill, and it is always a class skill for you.

And to make four posts in a row...

I was kind of on a roll, so I decided to input the whole party in Hero Lab. Here's what I discovered:

Alexa, you seem to be 3 skill points underspent and your hp are 5 over what they should be (using PFS style you should be at 27(9+6+6+6), currently at 32).

Valen, you are two ability score points underspent (could reduce Con to 10 and up Wis to 19, or get a bonus in Str, Dex, or Con...), hp are 4 under what they should be (using PFS style you should be at 23(8+5+5+5), currently at 19), and your skill totals seem off. According to Hero Lab, your skills (as best as I could guess where you put your points) should look as follows before Armor Check Penalty or Encumbrance Pentalty (Skill Name +total bonus(ranks)): Acrobatics +0(0), Appraise +2(0), Bluff +2(0), Climb +0(0), Diplomacy +7(2), Disguise +2(0), Escape Artist +0(0), Fly +0(0), Heal +9(2), Intimidate +2(0), K(arcana)+6(1), K(dungeoneering) +6(1), K(engineering) +6(1), K(geography) +6(1), K(history) +6(1), K(local) +7(2), K(nature) +6(1), K(planes) +6(1), K(religion) +8(3), Perception +7(1), Prof(gravedigger) +8(1), Ride +0(0), Sense Motive +8(1), Spellcraft +9(1), Stealth +0(0), Survival +4(0), Swim +0(0)

And we could all use some Handy Haversacks or Bags of Holding. I had to have Vaghn leave some of his equipment back at the Lorrimor estate to make light encumbrance; Madeline had to give most of hers to Smith to carry; Alexa is at medium, but can shrug off her backpack at the beginning of combat to drop to light for mobility; and Valen is kinda screwed, as just his armor, shield, and mace put him at medium. I had him leave a couple items, such as his shovel, behind at the Lorrimor estate so he wouldn't be at a heavy load...

Asmo, you win the game. (Not literally, but you are currently my favorite right now).

So, here's my take:

1). Folks, fix your characters.

2) If you want to adjust characters with Drawbacks and additional traits, that's fine.

3) Take your time, we'll have a break to level after this combat.

4) You'll all have a chance to sell all of the gear you've discovered after this adventure, so I foresee handy haversacks and the like as definite possibilities.

5) If you haven't, go like my page on Facebook. My company is writing an adventure that, if you're all game for, you might get to play test privately.

Female Human (Varisian(Ustalav)) Druid(Menhir Savant)/4 - Monk/1 HP: 33/36; AC16, T15, FF15; F+7,R+5,W+11; Per +13; Init +3

Hmmm, not sure where the mistakes are. I have 10 Int and 4 druid levels for 16 skill points. I get 1 bonus skill point per level for another 4 and have put one favored class bonus into my skills. Thus, I should have 21 points total.

I have:

+4 Acrobatics (+1 Dex, Ranks 3)
+6 Climb (+2 Str, Ranks 1, Class Skill +3)
+4 Handle Animal (-1 Cha, Ranks 2, Class Skill +3)
+10 Heal (+5 Wis, Ranks 2, Class Skill +3)
+4 Knowledge, Geography (Int +0, Ranks 1, Class Skill +3)
+4 Knowledge, Nature (Int +0, Ranks 1, Class Skill +3)
+12/+15, +14/+17 Perception (+5 Wis, Ranks 4, Class Skill +3) (+3 in shadows/dark)(+2 Alertness if familiar within arm's reach)
+6/+8 Sense Motive (+5 Wis, Ranks 1)(+2 Alertness if familiar within arm's reach)
+5 Spellcraft (+0 Int, Ranks 2, Class Skill +3)
+11 Survival (+5 Wis, Ranks 3, Class Skill +3)
+6 Swim (+2 Str, Ranks 1, Class Skill +3)

21 ranks total.
___________

On hp I am:

Max hp: 32 (+8,+5,+7,+5; +4 Con; +3 FC)
--> This is laid out with the number of HP rolled each level. I do not do the 1/2+1 PFS system. Thus, I have 8 1st level, 5 at 2nd, 7 at 3rd, 5 at 4th plus 4 for Con and 3 for favored class.

___________

I have the PC Gen program to create characters, but have found that there is nothing more annoying that the PC Gen/Herolab cut and paste that many people use in PBP as you get no historical data and everything is in a strange compressed format where nothing is readily visible. Frequently half the skills are not even listed if there are no ranks in them. I am sure for tabletop where it is a printed character sheet, it is great, but I find the way most players use it to be quite difficult to read in pbp.

Anyway, Alexa is a slightly older character, but I keep changing my format to get as much data as possible. For instance under the Leveling Info spoiler I usually put the original rolled stats and all bonuses (race, leveling, inherent, enhancement, etc.) That way if something changes, negative level, sundered Belt of Strength, or whatever, then I know how to reduce the character.

____________

Either way, thanks for running the checks. Now, lets finish off evil Creel and see what is causing this whole prison mess.

HP: 28 / 28, Init:+3, Perc:+7,AC:16,Fort:+3,Ref:+4,Will:+3
