Good morning all. I'm going to get things rolling... in about 10 minutes. Stand by! All will be revealed! Muhahahaha!

ACK! Too soon! Rendel has BArtenders to harass!

If you get me banned from then only decent bar in a three day walk Creel will forget he is trying to make you think he is a paladin!

Remember that conversation you had with that nice priestess of the unquenchable fire? Remember what she said about consent? I have her number, do I need to have her bring the box of wasps?

Of course! I'm consenting to torture this man!

Howdy all. :)

Male Human Alchemist 2

I did read (some skimming was involved) the main IC thread as part of applying -- I wanted to make sure I was joining a good game, of course.

@Asmodeus' concern about Dispel Magic: a Summoner gets it at 5th level, and the Alchemist gets it at 6th. And who knows, we might be on replacement PCs by that point!

Male Orc Expert 5

I'm still not quite sure how Rendel will react to the newcomers.

Male Human Alchemist 2

Only time will tell.

Madeline: I noticed your Perception checks should actually be at +6 instead of +5, you get +3 for using your bonus Elven Feat on Skill Focus (Perception) instead of +2

I think he will welcome them with open arms. Then a quick bounce off the ropes leading to a double suplex piledriver.

Note I have no idea what I just said.

Welcome to the game.

Thank you for that. =)

Though Madeline is a Half-Elf...so I thought they only got a +2?

Much sheers to you and yours.

As for characters...

1) If you guys want to cross-check each others character, by all means, feel free to keep one another honest. I generally trust players and only start to get critical in 3 situations; When I notice repeated mistakes, dishonesty, or a substantial lack of mechanical knowledge.

2) I'm going to try and post daily, but as stated before, I'm pretty busy. So, if I disappear for a few days, don't be alarmed. If I go off radar longer (without notice, like when I'm on vacation in August for Gen Con), poke me. Gently. Not with a sharp stick or anything.

3) I'll try to let everyone roll for themselves, but there are some rolls I'll always make unless you clearly do not initiate them yourself. For instance, Perception and Stealth really should be rolled by the GM because you aren't supposed to realize when you fail. I generally feel the same way about Diplomacy, Intimidate, and Sense Motive, but I'm not super picky. In fact, the players have been rolling these themselves up to this point, and I'm okay with that.

I generally believe that when you talk to people (NPCs), you're trying to get your way and sensing their reactions to your attempts, so it's not something I expect to see many rolls for. In fact, if you look in the earlier pages, the actual rolls (made by players) ruined what would have been otherwise perfectly good dialogue with NPCs....

(Looks at Rendel....)

Heinrich:
You found a few coins (9 gp total), but the rest of their gear was covered in a strange filth you dared not touch (although I do realize you may have taken a sample). And yes, I did miss that bit about putting in at the inn. My bad.

Dortlin:
About the rolls; Thanks. I'm all about a smooth game. I'll give your character a quick review today and, within the next two days, have you in game. You figure you've got another day on the road anyway. Press on, sir.

Rendel Bladetwist wrote:

I'll kill all of you eventually. It's only a matter of timing. Now (shotgun) or later (murder by natural death). ;)

Much sheers to you and yours.

Well they get Keen Senses, which is a +2 to perception checks. They also get Skill Focus, which is a +3 (and later a +6) to whatever skill they put it toward.

Cheliax

Adaptability: Half-elves receive Skill Focus as a bonus feat at 1st level.

Elf Blood: Half-elves count as both elves and humans for any effect related to race.

Keen Senses: Half-elves receive a +2 racial bonus on Perception skill checks.

Skill Focus
Choose a skill. You are particularly adept at that skill.
Benefit: You get a +3 bonus on all checks involving the
chosen skill. If you have 10 or more ranks in that skill, this
bonus increases to +6.
Special: You can gain this feat multiple times. Its effects
do not stack. Each time you take the feat, it applies to a
new skill.

Madeline should have a +6 (1 Rank + 0 from Wisdom + 2 from Racial Bonus + 3 from Skill Focus).

Concerning XP

I'm going to try to keep the group within the same range, but it is entirely possible for each of you to advance independent of one another. Obviously, the more tasks and challenges you engage in as a party, the closer you'll stay. However, if you break away and do things separately, you may quicken or retard that process (and die, as well). So, be mindful of that. Also, I'll keep track of them, although you are free to keep a personal record if you like.

Concerning HPs (Hero Points)

I will award them, but only in situations I find to be truly heroic. Fighting to save the girl your charged to protect is one thing. Swinging across a canyon on a broken rope bridge to fight a group of bugbears to ensure your groups escape - probably suicidal, but definitely heroic. Your going to have to bring your A-Game.

Gaining Trust

The CC AP makes use of a Trust Score that each of you contribute or detract from. Your party started with a baseline of XX and have since gain some. Generally speaking, NPCs reactions to your presence (and definitely your actions - requests for assistance, information, ect) is based around this score. It determines their baseline for your diplomatic interaction. If they "trust you", they may be friendly and easier to work with. If they don't, well, things will be harder. I think it goes without saying that the more you do to win it, the better off you are. Keep in mind that a core group (that appears stable) will increase trust. Rogues stealing from their matrons decreases it. A steadily revolving cast of PCs is also bad. So, let's hope this group can stick together!

Here's a snapshot of where each PC is:

Dortlin:
Looked over your character, everything looks fine. Don't worry about Hero Points right now. If I issue any out (and I may, if people do truly heroic things), I'll let you know. Also, you should add some XP: Your encounter with the wolves yielded 600 XP (reduced CR). So, you're at 600/2000. Sorry, those tigers didn't have any silver pieces...

Heinrich:
Your concept is strong and I like the feel of the character. You begin play with an additional 9 GP from your encounter with the goblins. Also, your XP is: 600/2000.

Creel:
Your current XP total is: 950/2000

Madeline:
Your current XP total is: 950/2000

Rendel:
Your current XP total is: 950/2000

der Grafft:
Your current XP total is: 650/2000. You didn't participate in the wolf encounter, but you jumped in and got involved with the town immediately, so I awarded you a side-bonus to bring you in line with the other PCs.

Obviously, because there are 6 of you, you'll have to deal with some slightly larger (buffed up) encounters to keep everything up to scale. As long as each of you are cool with that, that's how I plan to proceed.

Edit: I just realized... there's a LOT of half-elves in this group. Tanis would be proud...

Posted Friday morning I left the barn, entered Ravengro and was headed to the professor's house -- was figuring you might want to add a "you have arrived" post before I get my next one in? I'm anxiously awaiting meeting the other PCs!

Cheliax

Yeah, saw that. I'm just waiting for the PCs to get some sleep so I can introduce you in the morning.

Compelled by divine will, Heinrich sneaks into town and tosses a vial of sleeping gas through the window of Lorrimor's house before realizing the spell isn't on the alchemist spell list.

Creel is good with a fast forward to morning post.

Creel is also speaking in the third person for some reason.

Seeing the glass tinkle on the floor he cries out "Assassin!" And gives a long and merry chase through the woods swinin about his sword like a madman. When Heinrich finally manages to escape Rendel stays up all night roleplaying with the fireplace to keep the house sae wiht its cleansing fire. <_<

Cheliax

So, yeah... go to bed already. Damn guys. Also, someone else say they're going to search the chest (in the morning) and roll before I do, that way you can't blame me if another 1 comes up (or take a 20 - doing nothing else in the process, of course).

Creel:
I didn't have your character "take a ten" because I thought you'd have better luck with a roll (since your Perception is only +1). I would have taken a 20, but you struck me as being otherwise engaged (talking to the other PCs, ect) while you searched.

TheReplacementGM wrote:

** spoiler omitted **

I'm good with that, you made the right call re spoiler. Heck if we don't find anything and I expect Vaughn will, we can always take the chest apart. Chests are easy to replace.

Cheliax

Haha, maybe you forget, Vaghn's perception check is a great big -1. Gone are the days when a methodical search was intelligence-based. Probably best to (in the morning) have Smith search, taking 20, maybe with Madeline assisting. Rendel and I have an appointment at the temple of Pharasma meanwhile.

Cheliax

Go points, all around. Now go to bed.

(I don't have kids, so I get to enjoy saying that!!)

;)

I really really want to channel some Hans Landa right about now.

Very sorry, much apologize to Heinrich Strauss for possibly holding up your entrance to the game. *Bows again*

No worries, Dortlin and I will promptly knock on the front door at dawn.

Male Orc Expert 5

I recently put out two resumes for freelance work to LPjr Design and Gamer Ingenuity. Within hours of each I was offered work. Work that will keep me busy through the next year or so.

This means that for all intents and purposes my posting might be a bit spotty here and there as I'll have some rather painful deadlines I have to meet for pathfinder work.

Good news on getting the work. We can survie a Rendal drought. Though you know Creel will miss you. :7)

Much congratulations to you!

Cheliax

Well sir, all we can do is wish you all the best! Now, I have to ask; do you plan on remaining in this PbP or not? If you honestly don't think you'll have the time for it, I'd rather you not try and balance it against another task (or, in your case, several). If you can do it, then mum's the word and we'll charge forward. Either way, please let me know.

Male Orc Expert 5

I'm fine for now. No worries.

Cheliax

Dortlin, Heinrich - As soon as Madeline and Rendel actually go to sleep, I can advance the story to the next day. Just saying.

GM Screw up, everyone gets 50XP.

Seriously, I started following this post at 5 AM (shortly after getting up) and didn't check back. My knee-jerk reaction was part sleep deprivation and part distraction. Sorry guys.

As for the "borrowed" books, I'm fairly certain I didn't mention to Heinrich that Lorrimor borrowed them or that he would even know they had them. In fact, they are not the University's property, so unless I screwed up again (hey, it's possible), I'm not sure how Heinrich knows about them.

If you guys want, we can reset the scene and start all over. ;)

PS ... Rendel = Anakin?? Hmmm?? ;)

Male Human Alchemist 2

Ah, this was just a background hook for me, it doesn't have to be any specific books (i.e. the one's the party has already looked at).

I suspect the professor has ~200+ books (if not ~1000 books) in his home, I was simply going to roleplay "Ah, here's one of them, 101 Uses for a Dryad's Tear", etc.

I was likely going to invent some random title regarding constructs, i.e. Gaston's Golem Grimoire that Heinrich personally wanted to retrieve (with literally no in-game benefit outside of it being a topic of interest to him).

If you're against this invented back story, just let me know and I'll discard it and try to come up with another reason to be so persistent to have rushed to the professor's?

Okay, then. I was thinking you were tying your background into those books. I was about to knight Creel so he could respond, "these are not the books you are looking for."
