Alright, until this Sunday (2/23) this discussion will be for selected players to kick back, chit-chat and discuss their characters amongst each other.

IDEA
Discuss how your characters know each other. Are they friends? Friendly rivals? Something else?

Okay, this is who we've got:

Liera the Witch

Backstory:
Fiendish blood, in rare cases, can lie dormant. Several generations can pass before it makes itself evident. Such was the case with Liera.

Born in Sandpoint to Chelaxian parents, Liera had a relatively normal childhood, even if she wasn’t quite a normal child. She was outgoing, friendly, eager to please. She looked just like her parents – smooth pale skin, straight black hair, a cunning smile. She seemed to lack empathy, but her parents decided that would develop in time.

As Liera grew older, her parents grew more and more worried. She would spend hours in the dark, saying she could ‘see better’ and ‘felt more comfortable’. She frightened small animals – not through any ill intent, but simply with her presence, as if they smelled something foul on her. And as she grew older, other children grew frightened – she ‘gave them the creeps’.

Liera still tried to be a normal child – it was just difficult when the others played in sunlight, while the shadows felt safer to her. And when not everybody had imaginary friends lurking in the darkness.

When she shifted from childhood to adolescence, it began to make more sense. When two small bumps formed on her forehead, and her spine began to lengthen into a tail, her parents started to panic. When they couldn’t keep the shameful truth hidden any longer, they abandoned their tiefling child in the nearby woods, and left Sandpoint for good.

Lost and alone, Liera wandered through the woods for days, following only the whispering in her mind. She ate roots and berries whenever she could find them, and stayed hungry when she couldn’t. She fell into a crude trap left (and presumably forgotten) by goblins, broke her arm, and kept wandering in pain. She found a rabbit, and would have eaten it in desperation, had it not stayed put as she approached. It was the first animal in her entire life to not flee as she approached. As she cautiously picked it up, she felt a strange stirring in the back of her mind, as if something had awakened – and it was then that she passed out.

When she came to, she was inside. A woman was leaning over her, tending her broken arm. Something soft and warm was at her side, and when she turned her head, she could just make out the rabbit she’d picked up. Healing magic was flowing through her body, and she let herself drift off again, not into unconsciousness, but restful sleep.

The woman, she learned next time she awoke, was Koya Vhiski, a local cleric. She’d passed out not far from Sandpoint, as it turned out, and Koya found her while gathering herbs. The rabbit had stayed with her, refusing to leave, even when the old woman tried shooing it away. She’d been out for three days, but would be fine in a couple more.

All alone in the world, Liera begged Koya to let her stay. After much begging and pleading (and a bit of encouragement from her adopted son, Sandru), Koya agreed. But the girl would have to earn her keep (Liera eagerly accepted). And the rabbit would be her own responsibility (she agreed immediately).

Finding a job was hard, but eventually, Liera found work at the Rusty Dragon, helping Ameiko serve meals and drinks. She got on well enough with Ameiko – she wouldn’t consider her a close friend, but she was a kind employer, and didn’t judge Liera based on her fiendish appearance. And she enjoyed living with Koya – the old woman was sweet and kind, and helped her develop her own magic power, which had awakened in the woods. While it was of a more sinister nature than her own, she taught the young tiefling to use it to her advantage, and to avoid the whispered temptations it brought with it.

When Koya was travelling with Sandru and his caravan, Liera would sometimes join them, eager to get away from Sandpoint – especially when the stares and whispers would grow too much for her. Other times, she would stay behind, looking after the house and garden, caring for her rabbit and honing her magic. Sometimes she was all too eager to travel, for a chance at winning Sandru’s affection; other times, her own insecurity and shyness would prompt her to stay, as if hiding from him – or herself.

It’s been that way for some years now. Liera has grown from an awkward teen to an awkward young adult, and her fiendish features are stronger than ever. She’s eager to leave Sandpoint, and though she hasn’t told anyone, next time she travels with the Caravan, she won’t be coming back.

Appearance:

Liera is a small human woman. Her human blood just happens to be mixed with that of a fiend. She doesn’t know what kind – it could be a demon, a devil, or even a rakshasa for all she knows. Her features are certainly ambiguous enough to be anything, and her parents aren’t exactly around to tell her.

She is short and slender – standing just shy of five and a half feet, and though not without feminine curves, she knows comparing her own figure to that of her employer, Ameiko, will only upset her. Her hair is straight and black, and her skin is smooth and pale – signs of her Chelaxian parentage. However, she isn’t easy to mistake for completely human.

Horns grow from her hairline, curving back on themselves like those of a ram, sitting at the sides of her head. Her eyes are slanted and angular, arcing up sharply at the outer corners, and without whites – only a dull golden colour with a slitted pupil, almost catlike. Her nostrils are prominently flared, and her mouth seems a little too wide, her canine teeth fanglike. Her ears, like her eyes, rise to sharp points at the corners.

Between her neck and her waist, she seems mostly human, though her hands are vaguely clawlike – long, bony, sharp fingernails. Not too unusual, though slightly unsettling. What is unsettling, though, is her extraordinarily long and flexible tail – slender and whiplike, darkening to black at the tip – and her inhumanly-bent legs, ending in delicate, deerlike hooves that look as though they shouldn’t support her weight.

Of course, a decade of fiendish features has taught her a few tricks to conceal them. She keeps her eyes downcast most of the time, avoiding eye contact when she can. Letting her hair hang in her face helps somewhat, and she often lets it cover her ears as well. It takes a little more effort to conceal her horns, but since they sit relatively close to the skull, she can usually wrap her hair aound them, passing it off as simply an unusual style. She is prone to fiddling with her hair, giving the impression of coy flirting when all she really wants is to make sure nobody sees her ears and horns.

Her hands aren’t much of an issue – though somewhat unsettling, they still look human, and painting her “claws” gives the impression that she has filed her fingernails to that shape. For her legs and tail, she tries to disguise them with the simplest, most mundane method of all – clothing.

She wears long skirts, all the time. Her tail is long enough that she can wrap it around herself under her skirt to keep it hidden, but still use it to manipulate objects within arm’s reach and preserve her modesty. After years of struggling to hide her hooves with uncomfortably long skirts, she managed to cobble odd shoes that look normal – when all one can see is the sole, that is; in reality, they’re more of a cradle and loose cover for the hooves. Needless to say, this deception is uncomfortable, and she prefers to remain barefoot wherever possible.

Her clothes are usually loose and simple – a loose blouse, cinched with a bustier, and a long skirt, usually in several heavy layers. If she can wear a long woollen coat in the weather and not look out of place, even better. A wide-brimmed hat, well, that’s better still. Her desire to hide her features as much as possible leads her to almost be conspicuous in her pained efforts to hide.

Personality:

Liera’s most distinguishing personality feature is her shyness. Her years of trying to hide her features have developed into an almost crippling meekness – she avoids eye contact, she doesn’t speak much (and when she does, it’s quietly, without opening her mouth wide), she keeps her arms folded in, and tries not to draw much attention to herself. After all, she’s learned that attention she receives is usually of the negative sort, so she risks avoiding positive attention along with the bad.

She feels at home in shadows, and tends to shrink away from bright light, out of habit more than anything else. In darkness, she relaxes a little more. Her movements when walking are awkward, due to her “shoes”, but when barefoot (or hooved, as the case may be), she moves with an uncanny grace. She has a tendency to absent-mindedly stroke Speckle, even in the middle of conversation, as if without realizing what she’s doing, and the rabbit is her closest friend.

Lou Kasuri

Backstory:
Lou Kasuri was born of mixed blood his father was Tien and his mother was Varisian. He is the older of their two children. Lou grew up on the Kasuri family farm, just outside of Sandpoint. His father was an honorable man of Tien tradition, and his mother was a Varisian Gypsy.
Lou and his Sister, Noro, were complete opposites. Lou was always reserved and followed father’s strict regime of exercise and training; while Noro was more like her mother, wild and impulsive. Their father was constantly scolding Noro in an attempt to make her more disciplined, but this only drove her emotionally further from her father. She will always love her father and will never willing do anything to bring dishonor to his name; unfortunately she could never really understand how.

Noro and Lou studied martial combat with their father since they were old enough to walk. He was adamant in teaching the children the old ways and to fight with honor. Lou managed to grasp much of these concepts, but Noro was another story. She didn’t mind learning to fight and stand up for herself she just didn’t have the discipline to know when to avoid a fight and not to attack out of emotion and anger.
Noro would work hard at her studies attempting to be calm and reserved like her brother. But at every turn there were the other kids tormenting her again, attempting to urge her on in the hope to see her get angry again. Luckily Lou would intervene on many occasions before it would get to far.

Lou was always there for her until he found someone new. There was a new girl in his life, Ameiko from the Rusty Dragon. Noro has no idea how or where they met but Lou always had that lovesick puppy dog look whenever she was around. Of course Ameiko never seemed to even notice Lou, a fact that Noro would frequently point out. Perhaps, she was just a bit too old for him?

Noro would follow her brother to the Rusty Dragon and spy on him as he would do anything he could to get her attention and fail every time. However once word got around that Lou was pre-occupied Noro was soon again the target of the hazing and bullying.

Lou is Noro's older brother, while it is true that Lou is more disciplined than Noro it is not entirely true that he is the perfect student.

Lou still always managed to get into mischief. One night Lou managed to steal some of his father's choice wine and soon after a fun and rowdy night with Noro and some friends Lou found himself at the wrong end of his father’s cane.

Lou worked hard around the farm but he always had a problem with the drink. But it was not all too bad for him; Lou learned ways to meld his drinking with his father's fighting techniques.

His father did not approve but his mother encouraged him. Even staging fights along with Noro on occasion. Lou had a crush on a local girl Ameiko. He always talked about her and even was caught drawing pictures of her in his spare time. Noro constantly teased him over his crush and would eventually lead to another fight.

Eventually when Lou was old enough, he started working at the Rusty Dragon in the hopes that Ameiko would eventually notice him.

Kaaji Ebonbeak

Backstory:
The Ebonbeak name has long been associated with fearsome oni-hunters. A group of honor-bound Tengu that seek to eliminate the corrupt spirits that take form in the Material Plane as oni. The Ebonbeak clan holds to the belief that once a kami has failed to live up to the Laws of Golden Perfection and transforms into the evil oni, therefore, the only way to restore honor to that spirit is to put it to death at their blades. They have performed these duties for generations in hopes that once they pass that their very own spirits will be able to fulfill the expectations and not give into the oni's path. From the Ebonbeak have come many extraordinary fighters, samurai, sorcerers, rangers, rogues, and oracles. Each member takes it as a personal goal to eliminate evil spirits where they can, the parents of Kaaji Ebonbeak were two such honorable Tengu.
When Kaaji was young he was instructed by his parents in the ways of spirit-hunting and how to defeat evil beings, such as the undead and oni. His father was an exemplary summoner, Yobukami, that called forth benevolent spirits to fight beside him. Kaaji's mother on the other hand was a ranger, Tengu Matagi, that could hunt, track, and kill even the most clever of the oni. Together they were an overwhelming duo that many undead, oni, and evil forces dreaded. The parents raised their son to be able to track through mountains and forest, after any quarry he may encounter. He was instructed in many languages to be able to communicate on the many travels they anticipated Kaaji to embark on when he grew older. As a result he become very gifted and came to understand the way of honor for the tengu, for the Ebonbeak.

While he was still young, Kaaji went with his parents to a local village to buy supplies for their home in the mountains. As he waited outside a shop there was a group of travelers coming down the main road. The group had horses, wagons, armed men mounted on armored horses, and even what looked like to be a couple wizards. Kaaji watched in awe, he marveled at their armor and the stories it told. Just by looking at them the young tengu could tell they had stories to tell of beasts they had slain, bandit ambushes they survived, and maybe even treasures they discovered. At this point in time Kaaji's father exited the shop and went to speak to a young human man in the group. Kaaji was perplexed. Did his father know these men? Were they old friends? Then his mother patted Kaaji on the shoulder. "It is time you left the nest little one. Father has arranged for you to go with them to a new home. There you will grow and be strong. You may be alone, but you will be stronger because of it. Take honor with you. Take what we have taught you. You must not stay here nor come with Father and I. You will not survive long if you stay here, so we send you away so you may. Find us when you are ready." There was nothing that Kaaji could think to say. He knew better than to speak against his mother, especially if it was father's will too. He wanted nothing more than to stay, but by the sound of his mother's voice he knew she was telling the truth. He would die if he stayed, he didn't know why but something deep inside Kaaji told him it was true.

Thus, Kaaji met Sandru in his younger years of being an adventurer. Kaaji's father had met the man before and trusted him with his only son. Sandru promised the wise tengu that he would take Kaaji to a safe place and try to keep him out of harm's way. Along the trip Kaaji learned about Sandru and his caravanning jobs. Sandru told Kaaji that his parents were doing something great that he would understand someday. The young tengu was told that his parents were joining with other hunters to go after some of the most powerful oni, the oni daimyo. As such, they were not expected to all make it away from the battle alive and sent Kaaji with Sandru as a precaution.

As Kaaji grew up and a few years passed, he honed his tracking skills and practiced each day on what his parents had instructed him. They were his first masters. So, unsure whether they had passed or still fought on to this day, Kaaji makes a prayer to them at the beginning of each day so that they may stay on the path of Golden Perfection as kami. He is uncertain whether the kami aid him or not, but at times he feels pulled towards certain decisions and paths. In order to thank Sandru for his kindness and generousity Kaaji signed on as one of his caravan guards. However, now he feels called to go out in search of his parents or to take up his rightful place as an Ebonbeak. Now Kaaji finds himself in Sandpoint, looking for the next step in his path.

The tengu ranger does not speak often, he seeks to learn more through observing. While Kaaji may lack certain social graces or the suave social skills as some counterparts, he is well-educated in understanding how to speak multiple languages. He seems cold and distant at times, perhaps even unapproachable, because of his distant stare at something unseen. On the whole, Kaaji has a kind heart and is always willing to go the extra mile to help his friends and companions. He strives to hold to his own personal code, to be a tengu of honor, and not offend those that offer aid or insight.

Fenra Andosana-Sovark

Backstory:
Despite being twins, Fenra and her sister Shalelu do not appear much alike. Standing at 5'5, Fenra is short for an elf, and even seems to lack the beyond natural litheness and grace her kin have. Despite her stature, Fenra does have the tradition pale hair, skin, and eyes of her family.
When their mother took the human Jakardros Sovark as her consort, the girls saw him as their father, especially Fenra. For reasons she could not explain, Fenra felt drawn to this man. After the death of her mother, Fenra choose to leave Crying Leaf with her adopted father. Although this alienated Fenra from Shalelu, she felt the move was necessary to follow her own destiny, whatever it may be.

Years later, Shalelu tracked down Jakardros, who in turn led her to Fenra. Despite the years the twins still share a close bond. After all, what is a few decades to an elf? It could be said that their relationship is perhaps more tenuous than before; in their years apart, Fenra changed from a listless sweetling filled with wonder to a woman of ambition and purpose. It is hard to tell if this change in Fenra occurred because she moved, or if she moved because if it.

In truth, was the unseen result of her mother’s death which that triggered this change. Suddenly, Fenra felt called to discover more about herself and her pasts. Sometimes, she even feels her mother or her mother’s mother from generations past looking down and guiding her, leading her towards whatever lay ahead. Fenra may not know her path, but she knows that her future is tied to hers and her family’s pasts.

Knowing that Sandpoint is a place where adventure and trouble never seem far away, Shalelu suggests that Fenra visit the town. Although Fenra is unsure how this is relevant, she listens to her sister; there is no protest from their ancestors, and it seems a good a place as any.

Ishikawa Kaijutsu

Backstory:
Ish is short and lithe, wrapped in corded muscle. He carries a family heirloom of the Kaijutsu family on his hip in a Varisian patterned waistband-- an old, worn katana. Long strands of black hair obscure a boyishly handsome face, running beyond his shoulders and tied back with a colorful cloth. Always friendly and always kind, Ish acts definitively on his feelings-- sometimes perhaps too quickly to have thought them through.
Ish is Ameiko's youngest brother. He thinks of himself as an adventurer-- someone who's ready to be swept up into an adventure like the ones bards sing about, living large and leaving a mark on the world. Sandpoint is a small town-- when he's older, Korvosa or Magnimar, for sure! Stuck in Sandpoint isn't how he wants to live his life-- his worst fear is ending up neurotic and tyrannical like his father.

Ish tries to live up to his sister's and his family's expectations by being helpful-- at what changes on a moment-to-moment basis. Cooking, cleaning, negotiating with merchants, handling guests at the Rusty Dragon, wrestling drunks and winning card games all fall into the purview of his day-to-day tasks. Ish is a jack-of-all trades, really.

Training with the sword is his way to stay active. After witnessing first-hand what a goblin could do to someone his age with just a rock, he decided that he would never be too afraid to take action again. He spends long hours meditating-- more like thinking, the opposite of meditating-- and walking the outskirts of the town, helping others with odd jobs and generally being a wistful young man who should have long ago applied for an apprenticeship.

Ish is young and childish, but dreams big. He thinks he's more clever than he is and definitely enjoys basking in the attention of others. Arrogant is too formal-- he's just cocky. Ishikawa has a lot of growing up to do.

Okay. So who knows Ish? What do you think of him?

Ish knows Lou as the guy who watches his sister with lovesick eyes-- and now he works here, great! Ish is protective of his sister even though he knows that she can handle herself. The question is: Despite Ish not having the best first impression of Lou, are they friends? Does Lou try to buddy up to Ish to get closer to Ameiko?

Ish knows Liera as "Horns," the quiet girl with the weird horns and elvish features that unsettles people. She seems really reserved and introverted. Have Liera and Ish ever talked? Was it honest or was it in passing?

Kaaji. For a young boy who's never left his sleepy seaside village, you're a spectacle. What's your reaction to being gawked at by Ish?

Fenra, of course-- I don't think they've ever met. She's never been to Sandpoint. I hope you're there by the start of the adventure. : )

Female Human

Tries to control glee over finally getting to play Jade Regent

Although Fenra's never been to Sandpoint, Shalelu would have mentioned Ameiko, and by proximity Ish, since Shalelu does stay at the Rusty Dragon when she's in town. Also, this would provide a specific person for Shalelu to direct Fenra towards. That being said, the disconnect/disinterest that Ameiko bears for her heritage (this is something I have read into her character, if no one else sees/feels this way, I'm fine with altering this idea, suggestions welcomed) is perplexing to Fenra. I perhaps see this a blossoming into something akin to a rivalry. Ish is a bit cocky for Fenra's taste, but he means well enough.

I imagine in her wanderings, Fenra has run into Sandru's caravan, therefore introducing her to him, Koya, Liera and Kaaji. Sandru's a charmer. Or at leat Fenra is charmed by him... Fenra respects Koya's age and wisdom.

Fenra is unfazed by the "strange" appearances of Liera and Kaaji; she knows of peoples and creatures like them from her ancestors and previous lives. Fenra feels an unexplainable fondness for Liera; perhaps it is simply the intrigue of Liera's heritage. Kaaji seems an honorable fellow.

On a side note this is my first PbP. As such, feel free to give me directions/suggestions if/when I make a faux pas. Don't worry, I have played before. I've been playing irl for around a year now, but due to some... group dynamics... I'm not sure how long I will be included (moral of the story, never date your GM) and wanted to find some where else to play.

Male Human Monk 1 [HP 10/10; AC 17 / FF 14 / T 16; F+4/ R: +5 / W: +5; init: +3; Perc: +7]

Hello all glad to have made it...knew the 14th try would be the charm.

anyway. I am more than certain Lou and Ish are acquainted. but Lou tends to try and avoid conflict with him. at least while his sister is in town.

He knows Noro would want to introduce Ish's face to her fist, repeatedly.

However since Noro went off chasing some runelord thing after the goblin attack during the new church dedication ceremony, Lou has been much more at ease, and less active at the local garrison (getting his sister out of jail)

Lou and Ish probably had a few nights after hours at the Rusty Dragon having a few drinks and such.

question I gather that Lou and Ish have grown up in Sandpoint. probably known each other for a long time. Who else was born and raised in Sandpoint.

do we want to have some pre-adventure get together sessions?

As soon as I get off work I'll 'open' the Rusty Dragon for business for the day.

So far it seems Ish may be a close acquaintence of Liera and Lou, and thinks Kaaji an odd, if familiar, sight. Total stranger with Fenra though.

Fenra knows Liera and Kaaji, though not well, and knows of Ish by word of mouth. Lou is possibly unknown, perhaps?

Lou seems to want to be amicable with Ish at least, not wanting to make him (and possibly Ameiko) angry, so he pulls his weight at the bar where he should know Liera as a coworker (possibly close acquaintance, maybe even a friend).

@Lou: You, Ish and Liera all are from Sandpoint proper. Kaaji is not a 'native,' but fairly well known through Sandru and his time spent in and around the town. Fenra though is a relative newcomer, but may have been hinted at by Shalelu on rare occasion.

I think Lugos hit it on the head. Kaaji is not truly a native to Sandpoint, but has frequented often and stayed many times with Sandru while working in the caravan.

Kaaji would handle the gawking with dignity, he has done travelling with the caravan enough to know that his kind is not overly common, therefore it gets him differing reactions.

It seems Liera and Kaaji would have some kind of mediocre friendship. Kaaji working with the caravan and Liera going from time to time. It makes sense that they may have went together a few trips and gotten to know each other. Also, both of them being "different" would probably make them feel more comfortable with each other's company.

Kaaji has probably passed time at the Rusty Dragon between trips and during off-time. Most likely going in with Sandru for drinks and sharing stories. Oh, I can't decide if Kaaji should talk in the third person or not.

@TexNess don't worry, you'll fit in great I am sure. This is only my third PF PbP, but I have done a lot of Star Wars

@Kaaji: Hmm... Well, it's your character and would make them unique!

@TexNess: Didn't know you were new. But don't worry, PBP is fairly easy to handle. Bold is spoken word while italics is thought. Dice rolls are handled here as well. Oh! and before we start...

So your sister wants to beat me up? Not doing well for your case, man. Having women beat me up.

Drinks, sure. Drinks of water. Ish has seen too many people drowning in drink to want to start dabbling in that.

Ask me some questions! Everybody. I want to know how Kaaji and Lou treat Fenra, especially with Kaaji's dedication to oni-killing and Fenra's diabolical appearance.

@TexNess:

[.dice]1d20[/dice]

[.dice]1d20+1d20+2d6[/dice]

[.dice=Fort Save]1d20+6[/dice]

Turns into:

1d20 ⇒ 2

1d20 + 1d20 + 2d6 ⇒ (12) + (5) + (2, 1) = 20

Fort Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18

Dice are always gonna come up the same number in the same order. So if you re-structure your post, keep that in mind.

EDIT: Everyone who bookmarked the post will have to find it again cuz you changed the name. :X

apparently you don't know Noro:

check back story (has a link to Noro's alias). she is a hot headed drunken brute barbarian that started as a dock worker turned bouncer turned pit fighter for the local crime family.

Lou is the only family she has anymore after being disowned by their father. She is somewhat protective of Lou. Lou never tells her to fight for him, she usually just does it on her own if she hears about someone giving Lou trouble.

family interactions are interesting when Lou tries to stop her and the two go at it.

a drunken brute vs. a Drunken master... party in the streets

as far as Fenra...

well Lou is a cook and barkeep at the rusty dragon, he would not treat her any different than any other customer. If she is truly lost Lou might keep an eye on her, making sure trouble does not find her. and guiding her to the more respectable places to go.

Just being a neighborly local.

Off work

The Rusty Dragon is largely sparse today. Ameiko stands at the large circular bar looking out a nearby window at Market Street as yet another potential customer walks by.

Turning away from the window with a sigh, she glances over to the few people in there. Lou and Liera were busy trying to work on a table as Ishikawa wiped down a nearby one. "I'll be in the kitchen whipping up some porcupine skewers if any of you need me. Maybe I'll write that letter..." And with that she heads to the back kitchen to whip up that infamous dish.

Ah, Noro. I remember one of my characters had a run-in with her once. Because of Lou, if I remember correctly.

Anyway, I'm here, finally - had to alias my character from an iPad. And dear lord, finding a suitable avatar is a pain in the backside...

As for relations... Since Liera works part-time at the Rusty Dragon, she'd have seen Ish around, probably making sure he wasn't looking to closely - though if he knows her as 'Horns', that means she hasn't done a very good job of hiding, and she's likely petrified of him as a result. She'd also know Lou, and probably feel a little pained that someone was making eyes at Ameiko and she didn't seem to care, while Liera herself would likely never find anyone.

I like the idea of Kaaji and Liera getting along. We can be low-charisma buddies. :p

Kaaji would not be alarmed by Fenra. Fenra is an elf, you must have meant Liera. Liera would not alarm Kaaji, especially if they have been in the caravan together a few times. To him Liera is just another being, different appearance. He grew up knowing what the oni are, evil spirits that can shapeshift. He was raised to kill oni. Liera is not oni. As for acquaintances, I think Liera and Kaaji's low-charisma duo works out!

@Ish I didn't understand one bit of your dice speak.

In character: Out in the street Sandru and Kaaji are speaking, though in hushed tones it is easy to see there is a slight disagreement. The tengu is gesturing wildly to his bow and the road. All the while Sandru nods and listens before patting Kaaji on the shoulder and sending him on his way with some words of advice. Kaaji makes his way to the Rusty Dragon, head held low, he shoulders his bow as he walks in. He swiftly looks at the three workers and then makes his way to a table in the corner and out of the way. The tengu sits idly, shifting a little in his seat while remaining quiet.

@Kaaji: Just showing how to do the fancy text before the die rolls. Just remove the . in the bracket-dice-bracket and you're golden! That's something I didn't know how to do for a long time. And yeah, you're right-- Liera. I'm getting the two mixed up in my head for some reason. I should dispel myself of this notion before I insult someone.

Sleeves rolled up, Ish gives the table a quick once-over to finish and then stands back, admiring his work. "Never seen a cleaner table before in my life," he mutters. "Absolutely primed and ready for someone to splatter wine on you again."

He glances back towards the kitchen as Ameiko goes and then scans the room. Liera, Lou, a few sparse regulars keeping to themselves. Today felt like a slow day, and it was almost perfect. Noticing Kaaji-- how didn't he before? Rude of him to keep a guest waiting -- he approaches with a big smile. "Good evening, and welcome back to the Dragon. What can we do for you this evening?"

That should do the trick, Lou says as he finished adjusting the loose leg.

Help me set this table back up.

After the table is back up Lou tests it see, good as new as he puts some pressure on the table. then without warning the new table leg comes loose again sending Lou to the floor.

with a hand raised I'm alright.

Kaaji looks up at the young boy and then back down at the table. He unshoulders his bow and sets it leaning against the wall, then places his scimitar next to it. Next the tengu politely lowers his hood and meets Ish's eyes. "Kaaji would like hot meal and ale. Tired from long days. Kaaji thanks you for your hospitality." With that he looks back down to his hands on the table, twiddling his thumbs.

What determines the number values on the friendships?

Entering the Rusty Dragon, Fenra wonders looks around with interest. Nothing strikes her as particularly impressive, and yet Shelalu had spoken highly of this.

If sister seems to think this place will set me on my way... I don't know how or why, but... we shall see.

Instead of asking directly for Ameiko, Fenra takes a seat near the window and watches.

"No problem. Alright-- we'll get something started for you," Ish says, and then Lou takes a tumble. With a chuckle he adds "Just beware of falling workers. I keep telling my sister we should put up a sign."

Ish slips across the room over to the new lady elf who's already seated herself, giving a glance along the way to Lou and Liera that asks 'Do you guys need help?' "Good evening," he says, and thumps one hand into the other. "Welcome to the Rusty Dragon. What can we do for you this evening?"

I'm guessing Charisma bonus, and it looks like you get a +4 for your trait being related to them.

Fenra smiles at Ish.

You're right, I was just surprised with how high Fenra's numbers were. Fenra, if you go to the top of the thread the GM put up a spreadsheet with our relationship numbers and a map of the Rusty Dragon. You can click on the map and move your token to your desired seat.

Kaaji watches Lou fall and just gives a small shake of his head. Kaaji is surprised by the clumsiness some humans possess. He seems unharmed though. The tengu looks at Liera and realizes that she has a familiar face and begins to rack his brain as to where he has met here before.

"Oh, Shalelu! I'll see if I can get Ameiko to come out to say hi. I'll be right back," he says cheerfully and disappears into the kitchen to find Ameiko.

When he gets back there, he starts his work, filling steins and ladeling warm food onto plates. "Ameiko-- One of Shalelu's friends is here to see you," he calls over the din of the kitchen. "Not sure why."

Male Human Monk 1 [HP 10/10; AC 17 / FF 14 / T 16; F+4/ R: +5 / W: +5; init: +3; Perc: +7]

Lou is soon back up on his feet.

guess I am no carpenter, we really should hire a professional for this.

Lou does his best to get the table out of the way so nobody else is hurt.

as Ish calls for Amieko, Lou look toward the kitchen.

I'll fetch her. he says as he heads toward the kitchen.

As Lou moves towards the kitchen, Ameiko comes out holding what appears to be chunks of meat on a skewer, with porcupine quills sticking in the meat. Pulling out a few quills, she takes a bite before realizing that she has someone there wanting to talk with her. Swalowing hard, a small cough leaves her. "Sorry... Name's Ameiko. How can I... You look familiar... Have we met?" She eyes the elf before her intently.

Stepping back from the ruined table, Liera claps her hands over her mouth, an expression of fear on her face. Hearing Ameiko enter the room causes her to visibly jump, turning around awkwardly, as if stumbling. "Oh! I didn't break the table, I promise... It must have already been broken, I don't know what happened!"

Seeing the Tengu, she freezes, noticing him watching her. Why is he looking at me like that? Does he know?

Lou relieves Ameiko of her food skewers, allowing her to spend time with her friend.

Lou takes a taste as well not quite right for his taste but then again Lou is the cook.

Fenra stands and extends her hand to Ameiko. "I'm Fenra; you know my sister, Shelalu. She told me that I should come by sometime, ask for you, introduce myself. She thinks I might find my path, or at least a start to it, here."

Whisking by both Kaaji and Fenra's tables, he deposits their orders in front of them-- fresh ale for both, warm food for the Tengu.

He flutters by Liera for a moment to assure her. "Calm down, don't worry," he says mirthfully. "I'm surprised the old hunk of driftwood survived this long. It's not your fault."

Ish eyes the table for a moment and shakes his head. "We can pin the blame on Lou." He tries his best not to crack a smile, presenting a serious face.

Glancing at Liera, Ameiko shakes her head. "It's fine, all of the tables need repaired anyway." As Lou takes her meal she smiles and nods. "Thanks, Lou. See if you can do anything with them.

Accepting the Elf's hand, she gives it two firm shakes. "Shalelu's sister? Haven't seen her in near a fortnight. And a start huh? Well, I may be able to help you. Have a seat somewhere and grab something to eat. I'll be right back!"

She hurries back to the back room but not before giving Ish a slap on the back. "Don't be hard on Lou. Help Liera toss the table, I'll place an order for a new one soon."

Liera smiles shyly at Ish, starting to gather the broken pieces of table. She seems to have some difficulty bending to pick them up, eventually settling for crouching to fill her arms. "Um, where are we putting this?" she asks, blinking around in confusion.

Ish takes a little egress to being asked to do something, stalling a bit. He knocks one of the pieces with his feet until he realizes that's probably rude to Liera, who's struggling a little. He bends down and begins collecting shards with her. "We'll throw 'em in a cart and haul 'em to Junker's Edge."

Getting an idea, he whispers quickly and conspiratorially: "We can waste some time tossing the pieces off the edge, maybe throw 'em at some goblins. What'd'ya think?"

Kaaji keeps to himself. Keenly observing the going ons of the tavern people. He eats his food politely and meagerly while drinking his ale comfortably. That girl. Kaaji does know her. She is no mere human, not a feeble female either. Kaaji seen here with caravan before, with Koya.

"Do you really think there'll be goblins?" the girl whispers back. "I'm not so good at throwing things... But I suppose it is a nice day out there..."

As she entertains the idea of wasting time, she catches the Tengu still watching idly. A hand flies to her hair, making sure it's still properly wrapped. He does look kind of familiar... Isn't he one of the caravan guards?

Spotting Kaaji across the room, Fenra takes her ale over to him.
I've seen you before. With the caravan. Do you mind if I join you?

The tengu shifts in his seat a little bit at the elf's request. "Creoso, mellonamin. Kaaji, nauva naa tualle." Kaaji mutters quietly in the elven tongue. "Kaaji wonders if that was right?"

Welcome, my friend. Kaaji, is your servant.

Sorry, internet was acting up...

Ameiko returns a few moments later with a large sheet of paper. Setting herself at the counter of the bar. "Alright all of you, come here. I have news!" Looking over to Kaaji and Fenra, she waves them over. "You two come here, especially you Fenra. You said you wanted a start, and I think I know just the thing!" She taps the paper.

Torn away from planning to play hookie with Fenra, the young man studies the note with interested eyes. Finished, Ish whistles and raises an eyebrow. "That pays a sight better than chuckin' wood at goblins at Junker's."

Yes, base 'Friendship' is equal to your charisma modifier. You gain an inherent +4 bonus the NPC whom your trait is based on. As you level up, you may grant a bonus point per level to one NPC of your choice. You may also give certain gifts to your chosen NPC to boost your score if you perform a Diplomacy check with it. I will inform each of you a type of present your chosen NPC likes, as well.

I'm also doing a passive friendship score, where every 2 levels the other NPCs score rise by 1 to indicate time spent together.

The tengu follows in tow of Fenra, giving her a sort of bubble of respect. He glances over the paper, already fully aware of the situation with the caravans. He had fended off a few goblins a while back. "Kaaji deal with goblins. Nasty. Ugly. No trouble for Kaaji's bow and skill."

I'll have to check the friendship stuff when I get back on my own computer. Won't open on my old tablet.

"Much better," Liera breathes, eyes wide, "but far more dangerous. It sounds... Brutal." She looks sideways at Ish. "Three hundred gold pieces for the chief... That's a lot of money."

Ameiko grins widely at them. "Yep. Way I see it, let's you all have a chance to see yourselves in a new light, test yourselves and whatnot." Turning to Fenra, she is positively beaming at the elf. "Sounds like a good start to something at least, right? And you all also have the privilege of being the first to hear of this. Hemlock and the Mayor were gonna make this officially known tomorrow."

"This seems a good a start as any. I'll gladly help; goblins are a nasty problem."

church stuff today, but should we move to gameplay thread?

Moving it over now!

Heads up, I may not get to post much today. About half of my coworkers in my department called in today, forcing me to work a double. Will post what I can when I can.

Wasn't sure if we ever considered posting what time zones we were in, but for the sake of it I am in the Eastern U.S....so GMT -5, I believe. My schedule is usually really open after noon. Some days it might not be until three, but I generally am able to post a lot.

I live in South Australia, and can't remember my time zone off the top of my head. I've to my home game today anyway, which is going to take up plenty of my time.

Ah, Lou's secret blend of oh-god-the-burning. This brings back fond memories. :D

I'm on Central Time, so GMT -6. During the work week, I can post almost anytime as my job sets me at a computer all day, and having little to do other then run reports and answer calls...
