Male Half-Orc Inquisitor / 1

Dot

It was a night like any other in the sleepy town of Sandpoint. A few years had gone by quietly since the rise of a great evil, and peace had returned to this corner of the world. Sandpoint had seen it's fair share of troubles in the last decade and was finally enjoying the calm that always followed.

It was the week after the Swallowtail festival, at the end of Rova. The nights were starting to get chill; this was a good thing for the owner of the Rusty Dragon, Ameiko Kaijutsu. Ameiko is a young Tien woman, who can sometimes seem incredibly out of place in the town with very few foreigners. Tragedy had struck her family a few years ago, leaving her the sole member of one of the four founding houses of Sandpoint. While she kept herself busy at the tavern and spending what free time she could with friends, she always seemed a bit distant. She had not quite been the same since her lover had died in her arms while they were out adventuring. She is quite friendly towards both Nakitu and Louise, but always keeps them both at an arms length. She has tried to set them up on more than one occasion (whether because she believes they'd make a cute couple, or she is trying to get them off her back, who knows), but it hasn't seemed to stick yet.

Sandru Vhiski had taken Ameiko under his wing and treated her as his own little sister - as she would have been, if his younger brother, Ameiko's brother, had not passed away. Sandru is a man nearing his middle age, and runs a caravan that travels between Magnimar, Sandpoint, and Korvosa a couple of times a year. Sandru is charming and handsome, and has caught the eye of most of the women (and some of the men!) in Sandpoint over the years. A true Varisian, Sandru loves nothing more than travelling the roads, accompanied by friends and his adopted mother, Koya.

Koya Mvashti, surprisingly, is one of the most well known people in Sandpoint (but that's not much to claim in a town of barely over 1200 people.) An old lady herself, her mother has just recently passed away and it's visibly taken its toll on Koya. A priestess of Desna, Koya spent most of her years travelling on small caravan journeys, raising lost children, and most recently taking care of her mother. Her mother, Niska, of course had many friends as well that were also friends of Koya. That was how she had come to know Khelvor. Magnauk was somebody she had healed long ago, and provided what wisdom she could to help set him on the right path in life. And then there was Krojan - another one of her adopted sons. She had not seem him much recently, but he was always a welcome sight to return to in Sandpoint.

One of Ameiko's closest friends (and there have been rumour that it's maybe more) is Shalelu Andosana. Shalelu is an elven ranger who does not live in Sandpoint, but patrols it's borders to help keep it safe. One of the few people she visits in town is her adopted brother, Caerwynn, whom she affectionately calls her little goblin slayer. Anybody who has ever heard of Shalelu knows of her enmity for the goblins, and the time she spends hunting them in the Sandpoint Hinterlands. Not much else about her is known, as she has a reputation for being a lone wolf and even more private than Ameiko.

As Sandru's caravan had just returned from their latest trip to Korvosa, both he and Koya were at the bar regaling Ameiko with tales of their journey. Shalelu was also in town, as she made a point of trying to stop in around the Swallowtail Festival for Ameiko's sake (as it was that time a few years ago tragedy had struck the Kaijutsus.) Barely a seat left in the house, you are all at the Rusty Dragon enjoying the company of your friend, crush, or adopted family.

"...and he fell straight into the lake!" Everybody roared with laughter at Sandru's tales, and Ameiko refilled everybody's drinks.

"This rounds on the house for you lot, it's good to have you all home and in one place!" Ameiko smiled around at the group, looking happier than she had in a long time. It was extremely rare for her three close friends to be in the same place at once, let alone with all of their friends that she had come to know.

Shalelu waited for the laughter to die down and for everybody to have their drink filled (herself opting for just water), before speaking up with a serious tone. "So, did anybody else notice the posters Hemlock threw up today? The goblin bounty is back up, haven't seen that for years. Ten gold an ear! That's quite the hefty sum if you can catch more than a few. But this time it's special..." The elf lowered her voice, leaned in, and smiled. "An extra 300 gold to anybody who can bring in the head of Gutwad himself." She pulled back, and waited to hear everybody's thoughts.

It's finally up! You all are presumed to at least know OF each other, whether this is your first time meeting or not is up to you. If you want a little extra knowledge about the NPC you are linked to, just ask away.

Caerwyn sits at a table not too far away from Sandru and the others listening to his tale and smiling to himself. As the serving maid passes he flags her down for another drink. Having just returned from a patrol along the coast road he wanted nothing more to take a bath and fall asleep before enjoying his days off. When he had heard that Sandru, and her were in town he immediately headed for the Rusty Dragon.
Finding a chair near, but not too close, to the center of the room he seated himself down and ordered a glass of watered down wine. The stuff was damn near translucent, but it was all he could afford. A guardsmen's pay never seemed to go quite far enough. Luckily pay day was at week's end. Hopefully she would stay in town long enough this time for him to buy a decent dinner before she went out on the trail once more. Caerwyn stares at the elven woman surreptitiously before looking away, afraid to get caught.
Ameiko mention the bounty that the sheriff had recently reinstated snaps Caerwyn out of his reverie and he nods his head "Aye, I had heard that he was going to do it to help stem the recent attacks against the caravans on the coast road. The Licktoads are getting just a might too cocksure of themselves and need to be put back into their place." Looking around the room the scout says to any and all listening "I was thinking of going into the Brinestump myself and trying to collect some of the bounty. Gods know I could use some extra coin." he glances at Shalelu before continuing "Is there any else among you who would like to go with me?"

Just a slight bit here...yes, that will do nicely. Now, to sharpen the ears just a bit more...excellent.

Sitting at a table not far from the bar, and enjoying his tankard of ale, Khelvor leaned back slightly in his chair, balancing himself on two legs. His smile was directed at Sandru and the culmination of his latest tale, but his eyes were fixed and focused on his latest piece of work, a small wooden carving of a certain shapely ranger lass.

At the mention of a bounty his eyes shifted to Shalelu, the momentary distraction of her beautiful form stealing away his concentration and causing his hand to slip, marring the surface of his work.

Blast it! And I was so close! Ah well, this one can join the others, none of which will ever be perfect enough for her.

He slipped the figurine into a pouch and stood up, hardly coming up high enough to poke his nose over the edge of the bar. "A bounty you say? And you aren't out there right now thinning the ranks? I'd have guessed there would be none left for anyone else to chase after by now." His eyes shifted around the room for a moment and then returned to the assembled group, "It sounds to me that it is a fine opportunity for the rest of us got a chance at some goblin hunting."

At that Khelvor looks over to Caerwyn and flashes him a charming grin, "You read my mind Caerwyn."

Louise sunk in his seat which, Ameiko had made sure once again, was directly across from her friend Nakitu. Louise had been bribed with promises of curried salmon and stories of the road by Ameiko's friends, of course Ameiko had failed to mention to Louise that she would be sitting at a small table alone with the same guy Ameiko always seemed to invite to all of the same events. Of course this wasn't the only person whose advances Louise had to skirt around on a normal basis however. He tried not to think about it though and enjoyed the company and stories.

Hearing the words of a bounty on the goblins and specifically the goblin leader however, Louise nearly fell out of his seat, spilling his drink. "THREE HUNDRED!? And ten gold an ear, so if I cut off both of Gutwad's ears, that's 320 gold alone right?" He nearly shouts the first part, but then lowers his voice to more of a hushed tone in embarrassment for the rest.

Forget the money, this might finally be my chance to get Ameiko to look at me, instead of trying to pair me up with this guy over and over. He raises his hand, muttering "I'm in."

I had to keep changing pronouns, this is going to be more confusing then I thought, there might be some wrong pronouns in there, I kept falling for the trap and wanting to write her instead of him.

Male Human Oracle of the Heavens/1 (HP: 11 of11)

Krojun stands near Sandru, enjoying his stories. From time to time he looks over at Koya and smiles. He can't believe how good it is to see her, and Sandru too. He seems uninterested in the goblin bounty at first, as he had a few gold in his pocket from the last caravan he worked. Suddenly it occurs to him, I could get Koya a gift! Something to take her mind from Nish. He only thinks of Niska by his pet name for her, his fond memories of her helping him explore his gift keeping his mood from becoming somber. His face beams as he is about to volunteer, but he is interrupted by Louise's outburst. He waits a moment after she offers her sword before speaking up, "I too would be willing to help with this goblin 'problem'."

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu's attention was peaked at the height of Sandru's tale and when he finished he laughed just as loud as anyone else and added in a few claps in applause before settling down into his seat content in the moment, a peaceful grin on his lips. There was nothing in this world that Nakitu enjoyed more than hearing a good story, other than perhaps telling one, and Sandru's were always the very best. Sure others in the town had stories to tell as well and many of them with a great deal more import and relevance than the stories Sandru had to tell but it was just that flare he put onto the stories, the way he drove everyone's attention that made the story worthwhile. The young kitsune himself was a well known storyteller around the town as well and knew that many considered him to be in rivalry for being the town's best storyteller, as his oldest friend Ameiko would constantly tease him about, but he just never found himself all that into the competition. He realized that stories and storytelling were forms of art and, through his constant devotion to Shelyn, he simply appreciated art wherever he could find it, in stories, poems, paintings, pottery, and jewelery, in sculptures, sonnets, ballads, and music, and, of course, in women as well. The youthful lad was never to be considered a player, however, in fact he had never really been seen with a woman, or man for that matter, before despite Ameiko's rather obvious attempts at pairing her fair cousin Louise and he together. Not that Nakitu had never taken notice of the fine lass, whose features were nothing less than, what any man in town including he would call, tantalizing. In fact, Nakitu had found himself accidentally flirting with the girl on occasion but stopped himself every time, as a servant of Shelyn he worshiped love and rejoiced at all the splendor it gave to the world but also realized that due to his secret identity in the township, he couldn't afford to get so close to anyone, no matter how attractive the offer may seem.

Speaking of attractive, however, there were no less than three obviously attractive women in the Red Dragon that night. The first of which being Louise, as was mentioned earlier. Nakitu had encountered the girl on several occasions and was well aware that she may be the second most desired woman in all of Sandpoint, and had taken notice of her swordplay around the town that was truly of an outstanding level, and held a great deal of artistic flair that sent shivers down the kitsune's spine. Ameiko had introduced the two a few years back and Nakitu noticed an immediate attraction, at least on his end, to the girl, but when he never took matters into his own hands began to notice Ameiko's meddling, setting them up on patrol's, or study sessions, or making plans for the three of them to go eat somewhere but then mysteriously never showing up leaving the two to dine together alone, and always by candlelight. . . .why always by candlelight? His meddlesome best friend would do this on many occasions and was rather forceful in the attempts to set the two up falling just short of actually grabbing their heads and pushing them together shouting, "Now kiss!" which Nakitu would often find himself recovering from nightmares of that very event. But, Nakitu never made a move more than a small flirt here or there, because he was a kitsune and no one could know least he upset the delicate balance of the town, and besides Louise never seemed that interested in flirting back either and seemed just as off-put as Nakitu was by the constant interference. Just not into red headed guys, Nakitu always supposed.

Another of the undeniably attractive women in the room, was Ameiko herself. Ameikio had been Nakitu's friend since childhood and helped him through many of his darker days and just as such he helped her through hers. Their friendship was a curious one as it mostly seemed to revolve around Ameiko's teasing of Nakitu, or Kit, as she called him, and his telling her jokes that would make her laugh away all the cares in her world, if only for a few moments, and following her on whatever cooky adventures she had in mind. The adventure she took most recently, which had ended in tragedy Ameiko never quite told him about, had been one of the only adventure's she had ever taken he had not accompanied her on as he was being cloistered a true cleric of Shelyn at the time the journey was to begin. He has regretted it ever since and made his sole task, since her return, the task of cheering her up in whatever way he could. The priest's apprentice, was of course aware of how she was the last in her line, and thus the last in a line of the town's founders, and thus a desirable target in the eyes of many suitors around town, which he had often helped her skirt the advances of with a timely distraction, but he himself had never thought of her as such. She was always just his best friend, a friend he would do anything for, but nothing more had ever occurred to the young kitsune.

Tonight the bar was jam packed with people through the town and those returning from a long journey out far away from this little town, which Nakitu had never left. There was much rejoicing and frivolity throughout the town and the kitsune found himself rejoicing with them. Many who had left on the journey, Nakitu considered to be personal friends and close acquaintances, who would gather around and listen whenever he had a tale to spin, usually from one of his many tomes of great hero's success or of great love's blossoming unto the world. He especially considered Sandru a close friend as the two would often swap stories at the tavern and sip at ale, though honestly Nakitu always preferred juice as it made for better decision making which is paramount when one must forever keep a secret from an entire township.

There were several others in the bar that night that Nakitu recognized to some degree as well. Koya, the town's elder whom, Nakitu had never really interacted with much before was there for when. She always seemed kind enough but there was something about her that always made it seem like she knew things about people, more than she let on, and that always put him on edge a little. There was also a cheerful little halfling Nakitu had come to know from his occasional visits to listen to Nakitu's tales around the temple. He was always carving little wooden figurines, that Nakitu found quite stirring and beautiful, of hero's and villains and beasts often from the tales he would tell. Then there was the half-elf Caerwyn. Nakitu never knew him very well but he was one of the few half elf's in town and one had to take note of that, and he was aware that he was a member of the guard, from his various pranks and minor misdeeds with Ameiko. Of course there was Krojun, yet another acquaintance and a figure seen often at the side of Koya, enough so to make him memorable even though the two had never spoken before. And last but not least there was Magnauk. Now Nakitu had no idea who this was as he had only recently shown up in town but, being one of maybe two or three half orcs in town is bound to draw attention.

The caravan also contained the third beautiful woman in the room however, Shalelu, the elf ranger who protected the town on many occasions and was good friends with his best friend Ameiko. Because of this, Nakitu had enjoyed her company on more than one occasion, and on these occasions, it's true, he took note of her graceful features and appealing physique but had never dared to flirt with her. As she had a serious manner about her at times that terrified the youthful man right out of his pelt. And as she began talking the world seemed to halt and lend her its ear.

Nakitu stood straight in his seat near Louise as Shalelu spoke, his curiosity piqued by the very last part of her statement. He couldn't help but let out a great gasp of awe and smile at the woman. "Gutwad himself you say?! They say that he alone is responsible for the slaughter of at least five farmsteads on the outskirt's of town! And that he decapitates the very children of these farmsteads and uses there little heads in some deprived sport he calls Gutterball! Truly any man or woman capable of bringing him down would be a person of legend, one of whom great stories might be told!" Nakitu felt a familiar stirring in his heart, a wayward wish that those stories he heard and told might one day be of him. And the red head's mouth opened to claim he would join the others but he found no voice and decided to shut his trap before someone took notice. A lingering fear and doubt in his mind kept him from saying anything at all even as Louise beside him agreed to go to hunt the creatures. All Nakitu could do was nervously shuffle in his chair and pass an excited, desperate glance over to Ameiko for some sort of confirmation always deferring to his best friend's judgement in these scenarios.

Shalelu nods, as more people seem interested than she originally thought. "I don't really need the coin, so I figured I would help spread word around town to see if there would be some goblin slayers", tossing a wink towards Caerwynn, "who might be interested, before I go take all the fun."

Knowl: Local DC 10:
Shalelu is also given supplies by Sheriff Hemlock every time she stops back into town. She's not officially paid by the town, but Sandpoint repays her in the small ways it can.

Ameiko and Sandru laugh as Louise nearly falls out of her seat. Sandru gets up and puts his arm around Louise, smirking. "Can't tell if you've had too much to drink or just too excited! Now what are all these gentlemen to think if someone as pretty as you were to fall over from the drink, you might pick up a reputation like poor old Sandru, eh?" Sandru ruffles Louise's hair and goes back to sitting. Ameiko rolls her eyes, and pulls away Sandru's drink. "I think YOU'VE had too much to drink for tonight, Mr. Vhiski." Sandru pouts and reaches for his drink, but Ameiko quickly slaps his hand away.

Koya smiles quietly with her hands in her lap, seemingly content to just watch all the excitement.

Until Louise "comes out", I'll probably refer to them as a 'she', as thats how the NPCs view them... :)

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

The cleric of Shelyn couldn't help but feel a twang of jealousy as Sandru reached his arm around the fallen Louise. Clearly he was a tad tipsy but still one could never have fair excuse for treating a lady like that. Insinuating that there might be rumors about her and whatnot. It just wasn't of sorts! Still Sandru was his friend as well and he knew the man was only joshing the poor girl for a bit of fun.

As Sandru went to leave Nakitu reached his arm down for the woman to grab onto and be pulled back up as he shot her a charming smile. "Sorry about that. He can forget himself just a tad at times but he's a good man I assure you. More importantly, are you alright? Perhaps you should focus on besting the chair before you go to fight any goblins now, eh?" He chuckled and beckoned her to take his hand.

He then turned his attention back up to Ameiko and Sandru and joked, "Come now Ameiko you can't keep that man away from his drink. Come morning he'll have nothing left flowing through his veins if you do!" The kitsune chuckled then looked on more seriously to Shalelu and took a deep gulp. "I-I shall go as well!" He announced fighting a momentary awkward stutter as this was the first time he had ever volunteered to leave the limits of the town, with many having knowledge of his fear of ever leaving the town.

Louise dusts himself off and scoffs as Sandru teases him. "Perhaps if I were on a horse, I would not be so easily bested." He mutters in response to Nakitu, choosing to pick himself up rather then accept the cleric's assistance. "I agree, the man has had too much to drink, and if he will be left with nothing flowing though his veins all the better." He retorts, glancing at Sandru and then Ameiko.

Louise gets back to his seat and looks away from the group, blushing slightly. That was so embarrassing, I can't believe I let Ameiko see that, I'm going to have to kick some major goblin butt tomorrow if I want her attention now. He sighs and beckons for a glass of water which he then nurses quietly.

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu recalled his hand, with a little disappointment on his features as the girl instead chose to lift herself from the floor rather than accept his help but flashed her a smile in response to her retort at his jest. "It's true none around here can boast the skill you have on a horse. One could say that you are almost more comfortable on horseback than on your own two legs. Almost as though you were born riding a horse." The cleric chuckled at the thought.

Moments later the kitsune did recoil slightly at the venom in her barbed words towards Sandru. The man had earned it, surely, but it always surprised him how harsh Louise could be with her words. Her gruff attitude was very tomboyish at times, Nakitu would think, but then she was never one to stray far from the more masculine professions such as cavalry and swordsmanship, for instance.

It was as Louise corrected herself upon her seat and glanced away from the group that Nakitu thought he saw something. A lingering of red upon her cheeks? The subtle signs of a blush perhaps? But no, he had imagined it, but perhaps not. Perhaps she was embarrassed to let herself be seen in such a way in front of him? Maybe she thought more of him than he would have thought? But this was all hypothetical,as Nakitu was fairly certain he'd imagined it.

"I believe its time I went to lend my support for my home. . . I'm not terribly much of a fighter, but I've learned some things from the scriptures that might lend some aid. And besides. If were to witness or even take part in the fall of Gutwad that would certainly be a tale worth telling!"

I'm operating under the assumptions that we all are at least passingly familiar with each other, so we don't need to run through the "standard introductions" phase of a gaming group. If I'm wrong in this please let me know. I'll be making some assumptions as to the base knowledge that Khelvor would have of the group.

Khelvor steped back from the bar and turned his attention to Shalelu and asked, "You are the expert in these things, so maybe you can help guide our hands on this brave endeavor? If a group of well-meaning and aptly trained individuals such as ourselves were to go off tromping through the wilderness in search of goblins and this Gutwad character, where would you suggest they begin? I've been itching to get out of town for weeks now and find some real adventure, and this sounds like just the thing to fill that order."

Obviously attempting to ingratiate himself with Shalelu, Khelvor seemed extremely eager to prove he was up to the challenge of a little bit of goblin hunting and that his bravery was up to snuff.

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor / 1

Magnauk continues to stand near Koya, a common sight since his return. The large half-orc is covered in scars across his face. The largest a long jagged line that starts from his forehead down through his nose and lips. Not many in town have gotten to know him since he has returned to Sandpoint after many years of studying and training. He spends his time helping Koya doing anything and everything he can to ease her toil especially since her loss. In secret he has used the guise of Koya's loss to allow him the opportunity to complete his real quest, repaying Koya for what she had done for him. His life was hers though at this time she had no knowledge of his plan.

Magnauk, since he lost his clan, has not been interested in having fun. He has become stoic and serious caring only in repaying his debt and inacting justice where he can. So as the stories and laughing continue to flow from those around him, he stands there showing no emotion. But once Shalelu speaks of goblins causing trouble and the need to hand out justice to them Magnauk perks up and listens. He does not speak up quickly but thinks first and then approaches Koya and quietly speaks to her. His face betray nothing as it continues to be a blank slate.

DC 15 actively trying to listen:
My dear Koya, I believe it honorable for me to hand out justice to these vermin. But I also believe that you could use me here to help you in your time of need. I ask your permission to go with them.

Koya lets out a bust of laughter and stare up at Magnauk and replies

My dear boy, your help has been appreciated but I am old not incapable. Yes you should follow your honor

at that Magnauk straightens up and announces

I wish to hand out justice to these vermin. I will go.

Turning to Koya, Magnauk bows

I must go and prepare myself, M'Lady so if you will excuse me

Seeing that people are starting to depart, Krojan suggests, "So shall we meet back here tomorrow morning and depart? Well, those who wish to go, that is."

Caerwyn looks at his cup wistfully before setting it down. "Agreed, tomorrow morning it is." Caerwyn looks around the common room one more time before heading for the door "Wouldn't do to be too far into one's cup if you're going to go out goblin hunting in the morning, Cear, now would it?" "I will speak with the Sheriff in the morning to see if he can give us some pointers on where to find the Licktoads camp. Shall we meet here at the Dragon, say, shortly after sunrise?"

Koya chuckled as Magnauk addressed her in such an odd fashion. "I've told you before, just call me Koya. I am nobodies lady, fancy titles like those belong to girls like Ameiko." Ameiko blushes and pretends not to hear.

Shalelu stops the group as they are packing up their things. "No, I cannot join you. I have some business in Sandpoint that needs taking care of. However, do be cautious. Brinestump Marsh is not a safe place, and very easy to get lost. I'd advise you to seek out that halfling Walthus Proudstump. He's appointed himself 'warden' of the marsh... Bit of a whacko, I'd say. I probably know it far better than him and claim no such title. You can get to his cottage by following a fishing trail up from the Lost Cost Road."

Shalelu gets up and addresses Caerwyn directly. "Now, goblin slayer, be careful out there. The fogs are thickest in the marsh at dusk and dawn so day travel would be smartest. But I taught you well enough, you'll do fine." She gives him a wink and heads out the door.

Shortly after, Ameiko begins closing down the tavern and the people slowly trickle out. Only Sandru sticks behind, and Ameiko seems in no rush to usher him out, even though she is shaking her soup ladle at the other patrons who are taking their time. "Goodnight, get out, and good riddance!" she calls teasingly after the crowds.

Caerwyn smiles affectionately at Shalelu "Aye, 'lelu I know. Besides it a good couple hours walk to the marsh and nothing, especially with such a disparate group as we have here, ever goes off on time." Caerwyn watches the elven hunter head out the door with that same wistful smile on his face.
"We hate to see her go, but love to watch her leave." Trace Adkins, Honkytonk Badonkadonk

Louise nods as Caewyn suggests meeting at the Rusty dragon shortly after sunrise. He then turns to Ameiko, "I suppose you can't go either?" He asks her, expecting her to say something about having to watch over the dragon. "It would be great to have your company." He adds before she can respond, and gets up to leave without waiting for her response. Let me just think for one night that you might see me take Gutwad's head, in the morning I can be disappointed in the news that you cannot join.

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu soon found homself as one of the very last patrons left in the bar as the others all go their last bits of advice from the comely elven huntress before she made her leave and then made off for the night themselves after saying their goodbyes. The yound cleric watched Louise leave wistfully and called out to her, "Looking forward to seeing you in the morrow! Rest well its going to be a big day!" He let out a wistful sigh as she left the building with her apparent, though sad comment about the likelyhood of Ameiko joining them. A disheartened and nervous glance was thrown Ameiko's way by the kitsune, worried about the trip tomorrow and concerned in Ameiko's apparent lack of interest in his first journey outside the town. She was likely just teasing him with her silence as always but he had hoped she would realize what a huge deal this was for him and have some words of advice or encouragement but this was her way of pushing her friend to do things on his own and he knew this by now.

The red headed young man shot Ameiko a nervous smile and polished off his drink before emerging from his chair and heading out the door. "Goodnight everyone! I'll come back and tell you some great goblin slaying tales soon! Ameiko, if you'd be a dear and keep an eye on Sandru, make sure he doesn't drown in his mug until I return." He jested and waved as he dissappeared from the tavern and proceeded to his cot in the temple to rest and prepare for the morning.

Curious, where are we supposed to be staying while in Sandpoint? An inn or someone's home? I wanted to post a closure to my actions for the evening but I'm not sure if I am sleeping in a bed or a gutter!

Ameiko will offer rooms and a hot breakfast to anybody going out goblin slaying in the morning that isn't from town and has nowhere to sleep. But she hurries you all off to bed, as adventurers need their sleep!

Khelvor will retire to his assigned room with a yawn, eager to get an early start in the morning.

Finally! A chance to do some good and to prove that I can handle myself! It is tough being the little guy sometimes, so easy to get overlooked in the crowd.

At the morning he will start with his prayers to Erastil, gather up his meager equipment, and make his way down to the bar for this hot breakfast that he was promised.

Maybe someone else will be late and there will be extras. One can hope...

In the morning Caerwyn will drop by the Sheriff's office to see if he can add anything that Shalelu didn't know about the location of the goblin encampment and anything more about this halfling hermit, Proudstump.

After meeting with the Sheriff Caerwyn will join the others at the Dragon for breakfast and planning before hitting the road.

Nakitu rose with a mighty yawn and strech that next morning, before he sat up from his cot and twosted his back from side to sode in an attempt to work out some of the kinks he had worked into them over the night with his relentless tossing and turning. Last night's sleep had not been particularly relaxing as his dreams had been plauged by twangs of fear of his journey today and excitement at the same time from the prspect of leaving the borders of everything he had known. He wished, Ameiko would have been there to jelp inspire his confidence but the presence of the comely Louise should be more than enough to rally his spirit. With a exasperated sigh, Nakitu rose from his cot and streched his arms far above his head whole his tail swept the floor. The young man always had found it more comfortable to sleep in his kitsune form for some reason, it just felt more natural and relaxing. After his little stretch the kitsune clothed himself and donned his armor, feeling glad he actually had it for the first time as it may for once come in handy today, and transformed back into his human form before going to his mirror and grooming homself to look propper, a cleric of Shelyn wouldn't do to be seen with bedhead! A few moments later, the youth chrcked himself over in the mirror and smiled. [i]Ah much better~[\i] He grinned, always perferring his human form over his true one, often he wished he wasn't even really a kitsune at all. If anyone found out it could change everything about how he was perceived . . . Kitsune had a bad reputation and in a small town such as this that could only be amplified, he was always scared of the friends he could loss and the ostracization he could suffer upon being revealed.

After his usual morning prayers to Shelyn and polishing of the sconces and alters in the temple Nakitu decided it was time to head out and join the others at the Rusty Dragon and took his usual dusty route through the back alleys that saved him a few minutes he had learned from his years of friendship with Ameiko. Upon his arrival, he discoved that he was not the first to arrive. The halfling woth the figurines, Khel, was already downstairs and ferociously engauging the food that had been provided to him, gratis, by Ameiko for taking part in the adventure. Nakitu could only think that it was true what they said about halflings and their appitites as the paladin destroyed his plate with holy might! Ameiko was at the counter as always and Nakitu waved to greet her and ask for his serving and took the seat next to the halfling and smiled. "A healthy appetite you have on this day Khel! I wish I could share your enthusiasm this journey has me somewhat on edge and its effecting my appetite to some extent. How come your latest carvings by the way? I had been meaning to commission one from you for some time but haven't had the opertinity." The cleric shook his head at the sad remanants of Khel's meal as Ameiko served him his and he avoided eye conact woth her, he couldn't let his best friend see how nervous this job was making him or she would never relent teasing him, or worse, be worried for him. As the plate clinked against the table Nakitu made sure to edge it slightly away from the halfling woth hjs arm up as a divider. Could never be too careful when around one of such strong appetite.

Magnauk wakes and immediately begins to pray to Erastil thanking his god for the ability to enact justice today. He also spends this time going over the names of his lost kin and clansmen. Those destroyed without mercy by the Hellknight's attack. He also gives thanks for Koya and what she accomplished in him.

It must be repaid no matter the cost or time it takes to do so, I must pay it in full

Magnauk rises from his knees and bundles up his belongings and dons his scale mail armor. Twirling his great axe in his hand he remembers when not too long ago it was used to carve down trees, but know it had a different purpose and he hoped it would be used for that purpose shortly.

He moves to say goodbye to Koya and wish her well while he is gone.

Koya may Erastil bless and hold you as I depart and may we be reunited soon. I know you don’t want me to be formal with you but what you have done for me deserves my respect and this is the only way I know how to show you that respect. Please forgive me but it only seems right.

Bowing deeply to her hand on heart he than rises turns and moves to the Inn where he is to meet the others.

Male Human Oracle of the Heavens/1 (HP: 11 of11)

Krojan woke to the noises of the people moving about the caravan. He had slept under Koya's wagon, since his former caravan had already moved on. He climbed out from under the wagon, stretching as the warm sunlight warmed him in the chilly morning air. Some people believed the sun was only the domain of Sarenrae, but they forget it is only one body in the wide heavens. The Mother Moon preferred the night when she was most visible, but she was far from absent during the day. Krojan smiled at this minor revelation, silently thanking the goddess for her illumination. He quickly gathered his meager belongings and hugged Koya, barely managing to be ready to join Magnauk on his way to the inn. "I trust you slept well, Magnauk. I noticed you made an early night of it last night."

"Mother, father, I hope that you both watch over me today, and I hope that Sarenrae's light shines on me this day as I go forth to risk my life. Sarenrae, please guide my words and dull my sword so that no blood may be spilled by these hands. I do not know if these goblins can be reasoned with, but I do know that those I travel with will not likely give them the chance. Sarenrae, please forgive me for the lives which I may ultimately take part in ending." Louise utters as he readies himself for the adventure to kill Gutwad. He had slept well last night, but couldn't help dreaming of heroic feats which he hoped that Ameiko would see.

After preparing himself for the small adventure, Louise makes his way to the stables to get his horse and then continues to the Rusty Dragon. Tying his horse outside of the tavern and whispering to it that he'd be back soon, Louise walks into the tavern, and waves to the others. "I hope I'm not late."

Now might be a good time to go build my horse.

Khelvor, all the while pretending to be on his first plate of food, piped up at Nakitu's conversation as he seated himself, "Always treat each meal like it will be your last, and you will never be disappointed!" As Khel shoveled another mouthful he added, "I've actually been on kind of a slump lately to be honest. I think I've nearly exhausted my supply of folks to carve. It is well beyond time I get out on the road and get myself some new ideas for my work. I think this trip might be just what I need, not to mention a nice bit of coin to boot. At some point I'm going to have to stop accepting silvers for odd jobs from Koya and start to make my own way."

Feeling famished from having spent so much time on conversation while there was still Ameiko's breakfast to be savored, Khelvor dove back into his plate with wanton abandonment, making short work of the food. He leaned back in his chair and let slip a fairly mighty belch for someone so small. He patted his stomach and savored a few moments of contentment before turning to Nakitu and asking, "So, why so on edge about the journey? Don't you hunger for a bit of excitement, something a little more out of the ordinary? Just think of all the exciting tales to be had out there, the wonders to be seen, and the gold to be won! Surely you will do your goddess proud on the road. With that voice of yours you will carry her words with you to every ear we pass, every soul we meet. You were made for this!"

Male Half-Orc Inquisitor / 1

Turning to Krojan to answer him,
I try to sleep lightly but I am well rested if that is what you meant. I take it you know Madame Koya well then. She is the reason I am alive and have become who I am today. It will be a great day of honor to inact justice upon these goblins who attack without cause.

Magnauk puts his hand upon his axe and shakes his head in an affirming way as if he was agreeing with his own statement.

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu couldn't help but smile at Khel's wild appetite. It was almost sad watching the food dissappear, the poor bastards didn't even stand a chance. As the halfling told his philosophy on food Nakitu nodded in agreement. "That's very wise of you. But, of course, I prefer to savor each bite of my food. Really taste the flavors so I miss oit on nothing, much lime my philosophy on life. To enjoy every moment to the fullest, the future will come later. Though there is nothing wrong with having a healthy appetite." The kitusne chuckled and gently carved of a slice of sausage, spearing it with his fork, and lifting it into his mouth, chewing with pure enjoyment on his face. Whatever he might joke with Ameiko about, her cooking was simply amazing it could not be denied.

As the kitsune enjoyed his meal, a ruah of savory and spice flowing over his palate he considered what Khel had to say and couldn't help but grin bashfully at his compliments. "Oh, truly thank you for the great compliments, but I fear I may not live up to all expectations, this is my frist tims out of the town since my birth. And I certainly have never engauged in combat before let alone taken a life! I've had some practice with the master in the art of weilding my quarterstaff but I know not how far that will carry me. Though surely you are correct, I have felt a longing to leave this place and joirney the open road, simething insode me just seems to call me to that cause despite my trepidation. If all goes acordingly though, or better yet with a few surprises along the way, this really will be a tale worth telling! Ican hardly wait thinking of telling it now!"[\b] Nakitu graciously whipped his lips with the table cloth and began sawing away at the rest of his meal with his implements. "And as for you, I believe that of anyone here you are pefectly capable of making your way through this journey. You have the feel of a man who knows how to take care of himself, and if any part of the journey involves destroying the gonlin's food stores I'm sure you will be more than up to the task haha! But honestly my friend I hope this journey keeps us both well and allows us the inspiration we seek. And at the gold they are willing to offer per ear? You shan't be needing to do odd tasks again any time soon."

The morning sun rises into a clear sky, a small omen of good fortune for the day's travels. Sheriff Hemlock can only really sum up the bounty, as well as tell you the direction of the Licktoad Tribe. He agrees with Shalelu that talking to the halfing is your best bet to get around the marsh safely.

At the Rusty Dragon, Ameiko continues to serve up porridge, boar sausage and eggs to the adventurers-to-be. "Slow down Khel, some of the others haven't even arrived yet and you're almost on thirds!"

Ameiko makes small talk over breakfast, and encourages you all to leave soon. Sandru eventually comes slowly down the stairs from where he must have had a room, holding himself like his head is in great pain. There is a teasing back and forth between Ameiko and Sandru, before he leaves with a smile to head back to his caravan.

As breakfast finishes up, Ameiko wishes you all luck on the hunt for goblins. As you leave the Rusty Dragon and reach the edge of the city, Shalelu can be seen for a moment, nodding in approval, before she disappears amongst the houses.

As the party arrived and prepared for the adventure ahead, Khelvor did his best to be discreet about stuffing a pile of the sausages into a napkin and then tucking the bulging bundle into his tunic, making sure to do so while no one was looking. No sense letting this food go to waste! Hmm, I wonder when everyone else will show up? Shame they missed all the wonderful food!

Before heading out, Khelvor ran up to his room. Well, he ran as fast as a halfling could run with a belly full of everyone's breakfast. He quickly gathered his gear into a pack, strapping his longbow to the side and making sure his arrows were secured in their quiver. Between the straps of his pack he slid the scabbard for his tiny greatsword, making sure it would not rub against his shoulders too much. Goblins! Who would have thought? I'm going to hunt goblins! He then slipped into his armor and traveling garb, tucked the sausages into his pack, and put on his belt, sliding his quiver and pouch along the length of the leather until they were in their proper places. He filled his waterskin in the basin of clean water and made sure his hip flask was full, the wine from last night's dinner being more than sufficient for the road.

He hung his hand carved symbol of Erastil around his neck, suspended from a leather thong, and muttered a prayer to his god, wishing for safety on the road ahead.

Confident that he was ready to face the challenges ahead, Khelvor sprinted down the stairs to the common room and out the front door to find the others.

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

As breakfast began to wrap up Nakitu finished off everythong that was on his plate and cleaned himself off with a napkin. He was still reeling from what he had seen the little halfling do to thr meals of all those who didn't make it in time to eat. . . No living creatire of that size should be able to consume so much! After taking a moment to ensure he did'nt relase his meal onto the floor after the thought of the halfling's feast Nakitu grabbed his quarterstaff which rested beside his table and stood woth grace. Brushing his hand agajnst the staff he whispered a prayer to Shelyn and made his way to the door waving at Ameiko as he passed. "See ya when I get back okay? Don't burn the whole place down while I'm away!" he chuckled and made his way out the door. Joining the company of the others, his face stoic in the face of his adventure before a grin of anticipation crossed his features. Shelyn would look favorably upon him today.

Luckily, Louise had ate at home prior to arriving at the Rusty Dragon. "Are you done eating poor Ameiko out of house and home now?" He asks the halfling, noticing the grin on his face, "Well at the very least I hope that your excessive eating doesn't interfere with our mission." He unties his horse and climbs aboard it, trotting along, making sure that his sword and bow are close by should he need either of them.

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu was glad for Louise's company along the trail to the edge of town. Her mere presence was somehow reassuring, especially on her impressive steed, one of the finest in all of Sandpoint to say the least, as it struck an imposing figire wifh its mere size and definition. The fox folk lad had taken notice of the irregulad buldge in the halfling's clothing before and was fairly certain that it was indeed the other's food that had not yet been eaten. Just as Nakitu was begining to wonder and hope that the others had managed to get some sort of meal of their own before heading out on this mission, Louise's voice stirred him from his thoughts. "Oh come now Louise I'm certain that our little friend's prowess in combat shall be well worth his voracious appetite. And certainly Ameiko doesn't mind she's likely flattered he thinks so well of her food. Besides he seems to have brought snacks to tide him so we should be alright." Nakitu couldn't help but chuckle at the sincerity of what he had said. ["In fact, snacks may be the very key to our success in this endeavor! That and the fact that we have a companaion as radiant and beautiful as yourself to lead us on the way. Truly you are a beacon of Shelyn that shall boon us with good fortune m'lady." The kitsune smirked and gave a playful wink to Louise as he patted his halfling friend on the back.

Caerwyn will lead the little expedition down the coast road, a road he's traveled many times on patrol, to the start of the trail into the marsh. Much to his chagrin he admits to never having been in the swamp itself "but, according to Shalelu and the Sheriff this halfling's house should be at the end of the trail."

Krojan smiles uneasily at Magnauk's certainty, "Well, it is a wonderful day, but we'll have to see about whether we can enact that justice successfully. I just pray none of us gets hurt."

Arriving at the inn, Krojan greets the others with a smile and a nod. He scrounges whatever food maybe left and gives Ameiko a pat on the shoulder as he passes her, "Thank you for the wonderful send off!"

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Following Caerwyn to the outskirts of the town Nakitu bobbs his head in respons to the half-elf's admission. "I'm sure Shalelu would not lead us astray in our task and neither shall you. I have the upmost confidence in you as well. You seem to have knowledge of the local surroundings as you showed whenever you cut me off througj one of your secret alleyways thoughout the town whenever I was up to mischeif." Nakitu chuckled and took a moment to take in his surroundings.

The town was thinner here at the border than it was in its dense center and as it radiated outward the distance between buildings and people would grow constantly larger. Here on the edge of town was where the hard workers lived, the mill workers, the farm tillers, thr lumber choppers, all gruff but kind hearted people built with a stubborn resilence obout them that allowed them to carry on no matter the amount of work which meeded doing or the severity of thr goblin raids. Being surrounded by these people made Nakitu's heart swell with pride in amongst the fear of the task at hand.

If any of the adventurers had looked back at this point in their newfound quest, they might have seen a very small, and very bright, figure trying his best to catch up with them in a hurry.

Lipp had woken late that morning, his mind still fuzzy from last night at the Rusty Dragon. He had spent the evening entertaining a group of patrons in one corner, across the room from Ameiko's party. The young halfling had tried his utmost to make sure his gaze didn't linger on the group, and to focus on the appreciative folks in front of him. After hours of songs and jokes and dancing, he was invited to drink the rest of the night away with his new friends and had done just that.

He woke up slowly, and made his way back to the Dragon to see what was left of breakfast. Ameiko informed him of the news of the day... the excitement of the group heading out to claim the bounty on the goblins and even Gutwad himself if they were lucky. Lipp had grown very tired of his day job, standing guard for a local merchant, and so the prospect of making some money at the same time as impressing his fellow bard was not something he could pass up. He quickly cleaned his plate, grabbed a generous chunk of bread and was on his way, thanking Ameiko over his shoulder as he left the tavern.

"Hey!" he called to the group as he got closer. He was moving quick for such a small halfling, his legs practically a blur. "Wait up! I've come to help hunt the goblins!" he said as he reached the adventurers.

"One... moment..." the halfling heaved, trying to catch his breath, his cheek still full of the last of the bread he had taken for the road.

Breath caught and food swallowed, he continued "Ameiko told me about the bounty. I'm here to help!"

Khelvor was happily bouncing along the trail humming a traveling tune to himself, eager to see his first real goblin, when the sound of the newest arrival huffing and puffing up the trail distracted him and gained his attention.

Oh no!

He knew that the trail rations that the group had brought along with them on their journey would be more than enough to sustain him, given their acceptance that they might have to tighten their belts a bit, but enough for two halflings? Unthinkable!

Well, there goes the notion of eating well on this trip! Erastil, you test me yet again I see!

Khelvor turned to face the newest addition and belted out, "Welcome welcome! So good you could catch up with us! You likely had to sleep off all those drinks you had last night eh? Well no matter, you caught up to us just in time. We are going to go kill some goblins and collect their ears!" Khelvor welcomed the newest member to the group with a sound pat on the back, which happened to pat multiple times around the circumference of the bard's backpack. The patting was accompanied by some fairly odd sniffing, when seemed to satisfy the halfling when he realized his newest companion had not neglected to bring his own food stores.

Satisfied with himself he put his arm around the bard and shouted, "This is going to be a fabulous journey indeed!"

"So Ameiko sent you instead of coming to help us herself? Well that's a sha...I mean welcome aboard." Louise took a closer look at the new arrival, barely managing to avoid running him over as Louise's horse seems a little startled by the appearance of the latecomer.

"Sorry, my horse isn't comfortable around gnomes, one tried to eat her last time." He adds, trying to calm the steed. He is a gnome right? He sure looks crazy enough, that's for sure...

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu nearly leaped out of his skin when the newcomer shouted out to the group. After a moment of heavy breathing and attempting to calm himself and end his shaking the servant of Shelyn looked the strange one over. He certainly was odd looking though, to some extent, all halflings were but this was a severe case of the strange. As the kitsune mentally agreed to keep an eye on the odd duck he had recalled seeing last night at the bar, he called out "Welcome to the group! Your company is well had. We can use as many as possible on this mission." he then turned to Louise with a start as her horse became unsettled. With a single deep breath, hand held to his rapidly beatunf heart. "Louise, I do believe our new cohort is a halfling. . . And a gnome tried to eat your horse once. ONCE! When are you ever gonna let that go? Almost sorry I introduced the two of you." he teased and winked at the girl.

Lipp nods at the auburn haired man, "Thank you sir. Indeed, despite my bright hair and flashy clothing, I am entirely a halfling."

The bard falls in with the group alongside Khelvor, making sure to keep his distance from the formidable looking woman's horse.

Krojan drops to the rear and survey's the eclectic group from behind. He strokes his chin with his thumb and wonders, Is this the group I would choose if I were going into a dangerous situation? With all the lively characters and the light-hearted mood it has the look of a traveling troupe of players, although a well armed one. Hmmph, watch yourself Krojan, this could take a bad turn very quickly.

Male Kitsune Cleric (Evangelist) Level 1

Nakitu nodded at the halfling as he fell in with the group. In truth he was glad to have the strange halfling as the more people their party held the safer they would be agaonst the goblins so he decided to warm up to the odd character. "So what brings you to join our marry little party? For gold? Safety? Or fame? Eithee way may Shelyn watch over you as she does us all." The kitsune smiled as the neared the very edge of town. His smile betraying the nervousness he felt at the time.

"All the usual reasons, I'm sure." Lipp replies, not sure how honest he wants to be at this moment. He pauses for a moment, eyes on his feet as he steadily marches along with the group, and then he reconsiders. I am about to trust these people with my life so no sense in holding back.

"To tell you the truth, I don't make a lot of money as an entertainer. I do all right, to be sure, but I still need to take on odd jobs around town. Right now, you might've seen playing security guard for the jeweler. Seems odd, huh? A small guard like me? But I can handle myself." he says to Nakitu, patting the hilt of his scimitar at his side.

"They give me a place to sleep above the shop, so it's not such a bad gig... but my dream is to be able to focus on my true calling."

Caerwyn looks around the assembled group before heading out of town "Where's Magnauk?" he wondered as he waited for everyone to get things together. "No use waiting for him. Koya probably had need of his services."
Once everyone is ready Caerwyn will lead them out of town. Picking up on the nervous banter Caerwyn calls back to Nakitu "The alleyways aren't secret, Naki, they've always been there."
On the road Caerwyn notices Krojan's attempt to fall back and set up a rear guard and nods in approval "God's only know that we look like a troupe of motley fools traveling the highways to our next festival."
Shouts from the rear draws Caerwyn out of his thoughts as a lone figure runs out of the town gates after them. Seeing the diminutive form running after them the thought crosses his mind "Another player for our merry band."
Welcome, Master Vishki. We all find out how well we do soon enough." Caerwyn says before focusing back on the road ahead of them.

I think I left a half-finished post yesterday and got pulled away from the computer and totally forgot about it... whoops!

The party heads out into Brinestump Marsh on a bright, sunny morning. Within a few minutes of walking however, the canopy overhead blocks out almost all of the sunlight. A cool fog has settled over the marsh already, limiting vision to about 60 feet. At some places it's difficult to see that far off the path regardless of the fog, because of the dense tree growth. The path you're walking on, while somewhat well-travelled, is still overgrown with nettles and reeds, limiting movement to 3/4. Because of the slow speed, it will take the party all day to reach Walthus' shack. The marsh is far some silent, full of croaking and chirping - but in this dark, dripping wetland, they take on an eerie and sinister tone. Occasionally low growls and deep bellow from further in the marsh can be heard.

During the course of the day, the trip itself is very eerie. A strange few occurrences happen...

Perception DC 15:
Just off the beaten path, you spot a soggy three-toed footprint, slowly filling with water as if whatever had made it just recently passed by.

Perception DC 15:
In the distant undergrowth, you can see for a split second something humanoid before it vanishes into the mist

Perception DC 5:
A large splash comes from somewhere nearby, and the wildlife in the area seems to quiet for just a moment..

And one last Perception DC ?? No spoilers this time gotta hit the hidden DC!

At one point during the day, the party comes up to a treacherous looking bridge. After some thinking and testing, it seems to be safe enough to cross.

Survival DC 10:
In the marsh, it's entirely likely that predators would recognize the bridges as easy points to catch prey. The area might not be safe too hang around too long.

The party spends the rest of the day travelling, and close to dinnertime finally reaches what appears to be the shack they were searching for. A muddy trail leads up to a swampy lagoon. The open ocean is visible just beyond these shallow waters, while an old two-story building, its walls soggy with moss and its roof sagging with age, sits on the lagoon's eastern shore.
