When a trove of fireworks falls into the hands of the goblins of Brinestump Marsh, the people of Sandpoint fear an explosive invasion. But there’s more afoot in the soggy wilderness than goblin hijinks and dangerous pyrotechnics.

Looks like there might be some need for a healer, so I'll throw my hat in the ring there... Name could well change when she's finalized, which is when I'll give her her own alias.

Ahalak Sky Whisper was the child of a tribe of the Lyrune-Quah of the Shoanti and a half-orc of Belkzen, though much of her origin remains a mystery to her. Despite the love of her mother, she met mostly cruelty and derision from her fellow children (and no few of their parents) as much because of her orc blood as for her mother's role in trading with outsiders, often the Mvashti family's caravans.

It was those children who sent Ahalak out on a Vision Quest when she reached her teens, not realizing that she would be so desperate to prove herself that she would push herself beyond her limits, nearly dying in the harsh Cinderlands their tribe called home.

A Mvashti caravan found the severely dehydrated young woman -- an owl sitting contentedly on her chest munching on a mouse -- and Koya's healing that brought her back to life, returning her to her family. Much to her peers' dismay, the owl stayed with her, bringing great honor and the attention of the tribe's shaman. She spent the next several years under his tutelage, her misadventure seeming to have had the opposite affect from what the youths intended -- her brush with death left her filled with life, determined to take every opportunity to live it to the fullest as she could.

In time, she received a summons from Niska Mvashti, journeying to Sandpoint to hear the old woman's final request to look after her daughter.

Crunch
I see Ahalak as a half-orc shaman, with the life mystery. She'll have the friend of the family trait and if you'll allow two campaign traits I was also thinking the Koya rescued trait.

I figure she'll mainly use her hexes in combat.

Personality-wise, she'll be fairly exuberant and full of life, mainly a happy character excited to see what else the great big world has to hold.

I have updated Yuto's background!

I'm working on a half-elf monk (zen archer) right now. I'll have something up in a few days. How long will recruitment be open?

I have a varisian monk (martial artist) I will get up today.

Vetinari fluff:

Vetenari is a 5th son of a very minor noble. As such he as few to nil prospects of inheriting anything of significance. Family pushing him to choose a cushy military appointment or join the clergy. He refuses either stultifying choice.

He's been listening to Shalelu's stories. He's convinced himself that with Shalelu's example as a starting point he can do an exception job of running things. As opposed to the lousy job the incombents are doing..

No, he is not a traitor that is going to try a coup d’état to force out his own family. He’s going to go off on his own to find someplace to start-up something new or get himself into a position of authority and prove his theories. He intends to surround himself with experts (eventual leadership feat) on the multitude of topics required. But feels he has to be enough in-the-know to understand what they are discussing and not be conned into poor choices.

The adventuring is intended to build up a reputation and contacts for the eventual goal of being in charge of something. So he still has to be capable enough to pull his own weight in the party or he won’t be building up contacts, favors, and a favorable reputation. Primary role will be knowledge skills and maybe party face if no one else is competent at it. As well as trapfinding/disarming if necessary. Secondary combatant relying on the studied combat.

Well dressed as a noble should be, but a fairly average looking and unmemorable face.

Note: I'm not necessarily saying he will be great at running things, just that he thinks he will be great at running things.

Built at level 2 so You can see where it is going.
First level will be swashbuckler (seems very irresponsible minor noble).
Then all other levels will be investigator as he pursues his true calling of figuring out how to run thigs.

I've got his stats done, but I won't have access to them until later. For now, here's his background.

Background:

You've heard of those whose blood is tainted by that of orcs, yes? Men and beast in one, full of rage and hatred, striving to prove themselves worthy or tear down all around them.

This tale is not of one of those. This tale is of an orc-blooded man named Gkirkhan.

Gkirkhan's mother was a young and powerful half-orc sorceress who enjoyed a night of passion with a half-orc warrior who happened to be passing through. One of the consequences of that night was Gkirkhan.

Gkirkhan grew up an outcast among the human child of his hometown, but that never bothered him. He proved to be stronger and more charming than the other boys as he grew. Childhood passed into adolescence, which then became the beginnings of adulthood. Girls which had teased him for his orcish features swooned at his long silky hair and charming smile. Boys that had bullied him found themselves no match for the muscly half-orc.

But Gkirkhan was restless. Always had been. He began to roam further and further from home, before finally signing on with the caravan of one Sandru Vhiski. He bade his mother farewell, dodged a couple of angry fathers and husbands, and was soon on his way.

Travelling was nice, as was meeting new women and seeing new places, but something in his blood still hungered. He wanted more. He wanted something that would make his blood burn. So, it was in Sandpoint that Gkirkhan thanked Sandru for the journey and made plans to go on his way.

Personality and appearance:

Gkirkhan is a simple man of simple tastes. He likes booze, women, and fighting in all of their forms. He isn't very bright, or prone to bouts of common sense, but he is tough, loyal, and kind to those in need.

Gkirkhan cuts a tall, board-shoulder figure. His smile is dazzling, his eyes like pools of gold, and his hair like strands of smooth, black silk. He wears a pair of sturdy pants, a thick leather belt, heavy leather boots, and a linen shirt that has a neck line that plunges to his abs. He wears a nice, wide brimmed hat and a heavy leather coat as well.

Quirks:

-Will try to seduce almost anything with breasts.
-If he's bored enough, he'll pick a fight in a bar just for the fun of it.
-Is really attached to hats. He will often complement people on their hat and whether he's polite or rude to a noble depends entirely on if they are wearing a nice hat.
-Will maul anyone that touches or harms his hat.
-He speaks in a terrible German accent. ("Hy vill haff hyu know dot Hy speak just fine!")

Okay, throwing my hat into the ring with this character (Hunter; Divine Hunter archetype), who was built for and briefly played in another Jade Regent game that ended rather abruptly and Senga, her animal companion. Everything should be in the profile, but let me know if there are any questions or anything I need to change. Also, if having a leopard AC is a bit too far-fetched, I'll be happy to change Senga around to a wolf instead.

Anton Monk (Martial Artist Archetype)

Fluff:

The Varisian people are many things, some real others imagined, but tough and resourceful are most certainly among them. Given the general disdain many people have for the wandering bands of gypsies it is also somewhat of surprise so many of their detractors come so readily to caravans to see their shows. Anton has done well for himself among these often unpleasant individuals as a strongman and prize fighter. Taking open challenges to best any man a particular village can pit against his fist and feet, the Varisian has yet to be bested.

It was during a stop in Sandpoint, Anton heard of powerful fighters on the far side of the world in possession of secret unarmed techniques. Being one to learn as much as possible and the potential to test his skills, Anton set his sights on finding the fastest route to these foreign lands.

If we use Jade regent traits:

Hero worship - Ameiko
Everyone in town seems to admire Ameiko and Shalelu—they’re
heroes, after all, and played key roles in the recent troubles that
plagued Sandpoint. You, though, take this admiration to a new
level—you practically worship one of these two. This could be
because you saw one of them perform a particularly impressive act
of bravery at some point in the past, or maybe they just happened
to give you the exact right words of encouragement or a kind gift at
some point a few years ago when you were young and impressionable. In any case, you’ve done your best to emulate your hero’s talents at spellcasting or combat. If your hero is Ameiko, you gain a +2 bonus on concentration checks. If your hero is Shalelu, you gain a +1 bonus to your AC against attacks of opportunity. In addition, you gain a +1 trait bonus on all attack rolls against foes
that threaten your hero.

If we use RoTR traits:

Merchant family
You are related to one of the four noble families from Magnimar
who founded the Mercantile League of Sandpoint. You either grew
up in Magnimar as a cousin in the Valdemar or Deverin family or
were born and raised in Sandpoint. Education in running a business
and years of looking after the family enterprise have given you a
knack for trade. You increase the gp limit of any settlement by 20%
and can resell items at an additional 10% over the amount of gp
you normally would get from selling off treasure.

Appears In : Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition

Background:

Richard is the second son of a Sandpoint merchant. He has lived there until he was twelve, when he was sent to Magnimar to learn to be a cleric of Abadar, the patron deity of his family.
He was very dispirited to be sent away from his family for 5 long years of training at that early age. His after word about duty to the family and the god were of scant comfort to him.
Only Ameiko word of encouragement and her enthusiasm about living in the big city gave him the strength to accept the separation from his family and birthplace.
He decided to be like Ameiko, capable to find a bright spot even in difficult circumstances.
After 5 years in Magnimar he has returned to Sandpoint last year.
Currently the is spending his time patrolling the roads around Sandpoint, doing his sacred duty to protect travelers, while he tries to reconnect his ties with his old friends and family

Apparence:
Richard is always well groomed with brown hairs beard and mustaches. He is always polite but a bit reserved with new acquaintances. He has a big crush on Ameiko.

intorduction:

When Ameiko’s natural history tutor instructed her to find something for her final paper she was terrified, she didn’t know what she would do. Then she found it, in the least likely place. She had searched high and low, in the woods and in the town, pestered her brothers and sisters to no avail, then down in the cellar getting an apple she saw it, wrapped in straw in a crate back in the corner.

Excitedly she took the large blue egg to Mr. Sympter, her tutor. “Is it a fossil?” she asked first,”is it a Vrock egg?” she asked second. He waved his hand at her and told her to shush, after looking at it for a moment he told her “I’m not sure what it is, but it’s in suspended state, you may use an incubator and hatch if for your final paper, it will be much more interesting than the chicken eggs your older brother did”.

As she hooked up the old gas incubator and set the egg inside she could not wait to show her father when he returned from his trip. Six days later bursting with pride she dragged daddy into the study and showed him the giant egg in the incubator. All he could say was “Oh my dear, what have you done?” realizing what he had said he told her the story.

"Tchoyoitu and Kankai Aikio were loyal retainers of the Kaijitsu aristocracy and had traveled with them from the Minkai Empire. Tchoyoitu died defending the family from vandals just days before they reached Sandoint. Shortly thereafter Kankai, who had a weak constitution already, homesick and heartbroken, on her deathbed laid a beautiful sky-blue egg, and asked the Kaijitsu patriarch to keep the egg until the family returned to Minkai and return the egg to her people, The Jīn zuǐ clan. She had written out instructions for him already and a letter of introduction and explanation for the egg"

“Now that the incubation process has started we cannot stop it or the Tengu hatchling will die, we shall raise it as our own. Your Ameiko will no longer be the youngest.”

short backstory and build:

Wūyā Kaijitsu Aikio of the the Jīn zuǐ clan will be hatched to the Kaijitsu late in life. He grew up little wild and slightly delinquent. He resisted the call of the streets and turned to the wilds. With the help of his sisters friend Shalelu he learned the ways of the forest and became a slayer. Not having enough savy for magic, Shalelu trained him to focus on traps.

Wuya will be a slayer he will specialize on disable device. His combat style is unarmed. AP trait will be “Younger Sibling: Ameiko.

appearance:

Wuya is 4'9" with black feathers, beak and eyes. Unbeknownst to him to humans he would look identical to every member of his clan. He wears traditional adventure clothing except he is barefoot. The weapons and armor he uses were his Tengu fathers, who died before he was hatched protecting his human fathers family. He also wears his fathers straw hat.

personality:

Wuya is a stereotypical youngest child, used to getting his way. He is friendly and curious and usually easy going. Willing to follow his older sister and help her however he can.

I'm pretty much done building, but I have one question. With the Zen Archer archetype, I am finding--for my first time ever--the monk's 35 gp start to be restrictive. The cheapest bow (shortbow) takes 30 of that and arrows take another 1. I'm absolutely willing to roll with it, in fact I've already got it all written that way, but I have also taken craft bows and one of my character's goals is to make his own bow at some point anyway. Would you allow me to craft a longbow beforehand? I've got a modifier of +6 so taking a 10 would finish it in 4 weeks. I'm even willing to take a cut in my starting gp if necessary.

If not, it's not a big deal.

I may be mistaken, but I assume you meant a campaign trait for Jade Regent?

(I know you have a RotRL recruitment open too, so I guess it got overlooked)
Yes thanks for the catch unfortunatly its to late to go back and edit it. This is what happens when your lazy and copy and paste lol.

^

aye, it was a copy/paste error, as the DM himself confirmed earlier.

Pity, Merchant family was a nice trait to have for a follower of Abadar.

I missed that reply by DM Mathpro.

It is hard not to love Ameiko, Shalelu is great (especially if you see her portrait in the second module) but seem less accessible as a person.

Depending on the final group composition it is possible that someone will change the subject of his hero worship to have a better group.

I'll role-play a little, AdamWarnock...

Ahalak bursts out laughing as the half-orc enters, breaking the silence in the Rusty Dragon.

"My dreams have come true?" she calls back to the apparently already-drunk man. "You have brought me a castle in the clouds and a pony to ride up to it? Please tell me it's not the dream about the time Sharina Legend-Singer recruits me for a Legendary Playhouse show only for me to realize I've forgotten both my lines and my clothes!"

The dusky, curvy half-orc laughs again as she raises a mug to the stranger.

I'm going to dot for interest since I've never played this one and try to get something together.

Nope I'm keeping this open for a little bit.

Dotting for interest - thinking of a hexcrafter/kapenia dancer magus who is a great-great niece of Niska Mvashti, and therefore a distant cousin of Koya's. Will have stats and background together this evening.

Thanks!

Waiting to see on the RotL campaign, but for this one I want to revise my submission to Rogue (acrobat/scout)/Warpriest. I love swashbucklers and all, but all the immediate actions might make PbP combat rather dreadful.

What about Drawbacks?

I will not be allowing draw backs this time.

Two questions:

1) We use Jade regents traits or RoTR traits?
2) What is our starting money?
The equipment is the minimum until we know how much money we have.

Using Jade Regent traits it was a typo. And average starting wealth per class.

No pregame crafting for this. Sorry.

Can do, and would you mind if we participated in recruitment thread RP? I know some GMs don't like it when players do that and others don't care. Anyway, translations are below. I based him off the Jaegers from Girl Genius (I highly recommend it if you like Steampunk.) And they all talk in a similar manner. If it helps, saying it out loud should give you an idea of what he's saying, but I can provide translations for when he talks.

"Laaaaadiez! Hyur dreams haff come true!" => "Ladies! Your dreams have come true!"

"Come now! No need to be shy! Hy iz beeg enuff for all ov hyu!" => "Come now! No need to be shy! I is big enough for all of you!"

No problem Adam I don't mind the in game RP at all as long as it doesn't take over the thread. It will allow me to see the potential players style.

The dusky, curvy half-orc laughs again as she raises a mug to the stranger.

"Pony? Vhy vould Hy haff a pony? A horse or a volf vould be better, no," Gkirkhan replies, "de second vun vould not be so bad. Hy vould giff hyu the part on de spot!"

The newcomer saunters over to the lovely lady's table and leans on it with one outstretched arm.

"Und Hy vould luff to show hyu mein castle," he purrs as he gives Ahalak the smolder, then the table begins to groan alarmingly, "uh-oh!"

With a crash, Gkirkhan and the table both topple to the ground.

"Ow. Dot table hoirt mein vace."

Translations (In order):

"Pony? Why would I have a pony? A horse or a wolf would be better, no?"

"The second one would not be so bad. I would give you the part on the spot!"

"And I would love to show you my castle."

"uh-oh!"

"Ow. That table hurt my face."

I forgot to mention.

I did read the first book of Jade Regent a few years ago when I thought I was going to run it for my home group. But several were kinda beginners and we decided it was too sandboxy for them. So I do remember the basic story line, but not the details. I'm pretty good at not metagaming my knowledge anyway.

Thats fine ElterAgo thanks for the honesty.

I know the general story (after all I have an AP subscription) but I don't read the adventures until I run them.
Generally I read the added material at the end of the book and look all the illustrations.
