Meycho sends a short prayer to Ketephys, Lord, grant me the strength and courage of your horde of Angels! and approaches the nearest giant, while signaling to Falling Star to circle the creature.

No ill effects. As for getting free, perhaps one of your companions could do something to help.

Caelin and Aumgwe are next.

As Meycho and Falling Star maneuver into position, Caelin and Aumgwe deliver brutal punishment to the thorn creature between them. On the first blow, the blade of Caelin's greatsword is snagged on the thorns pretruding from the giant's skin, but the second blow slices deeply into it. At the same time, Aumgwe manages to rake a sharp talon across the creature's back, drawing thick lines of blood.

Edit: Almost forgot. This is what the large thorn-creatures look like.

The thorn-thing howls in pain, and barks a sharp command to one of its allies. The second thorn-creature responds by drawing a wicked-looking battlaxe, which is also smeared with the same green sap, and moves into the thorn wall with the same ease as Caelin just stepped out of it. Both foes lash out at Caelin, one with the axe while the injured one grabs at him with thorn-covered arms, trying to pull him close. It also butts its head at him, trying to gore him. The remaining one subject Meycho to the same treatment.

Meycho's small and agile frame serves him well against the larger opponent, but faced with a multitude of attacks from two sides, Caelin can not shift his defenses fast enough. The wounded one laughs manically as it smashes it's thorn-covered forehead into the rangers unprotected face. Despite the staggering blow, Caelin barely manages to avoid being pulled into a thorny embrace.

Meycho: No dmg
Caelin 14 dmg

Updated map

Jervaise, your turn.

I'm going to post Tae's action since I don't think it will interfere with Jervaise, and I may be away from the computer for some hours.

Tae will maintain his performance (thank Meycho for the clarification on the bonus types!).

He will cast Grease on the Battle axe of the thorn giant engaged with Caelin. DC 14 reflex or drop it.

Mummy's Mask Campaign slides | Storyteller extraordinaire

As soon as Taecuss begins his incantation, the thorn giant with the axe slashes at him. I take a very direct approach to reminding spellcasters to cast defensively while close to an enemy with reach.

AoO:

Axe attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 Hit!
Dmg 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 3) + 1 = 9 hp of dmg to Tae

Crit confirmation roll 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11 Does not confirm
Dmg 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1, 5, 3) + 2 = 13 N/A

The battleaxe slams into Tae's waving arm, leaving a deep gash which immediately begins to burn with the sting of poison.

Taecuss, 9 hp of dmg, a DC 13 Fort save and a DC 20 Concentration check or you loose the spell. Defensive casting is your friend!

Concentration 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Calculated risk that failed. I was hoping for some kind of cover in the thorns, but I guess their ability to walk through it lets them see through it too. :(

Fort Save 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Mummy's Mask Campaign slides | Storyteller extraordinaire

Oh shoot, I knew there was something I forgot - concealment 1d100 ⇒ 37. Barely passes. Hit connects. 1 point of CON dmg from the poison and a new save next round. Also, you need a concentration check (CL + CHA), not a Caster level check. Regardless, you still fail, and lose the spell.

Do we have our gear? Assuming that we do...

Goodluck unslings his trident as he moves forward to M-22 and cries loudly "By Gozreh you dare to intrude upon this sacred occasion? Fiends, you will pay for your impertinence!"

Attack! 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 3 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 3 + (3) = 7

My armor is magically summonable! And delicious. This being the case, I'd like to change my action. I don't think Goodluck would have brought a trident to a wedding. Raising his hands towards the sky, Goodluck calls upon Gozreh to punish this wicked creature by turning it into one of Nature's smallest children.

The expected transformation does not happen, however. The creature simply laughs hysterically at Goodluck, obviously taking joy in his confusion and in the anguished cries of his friends.

Spellcraft DC 20:

You suspect the plant-like nature of the creatures render them immune to transformative magic. If this is the case, mind-affecting magic will also likely be useless against them.

Since Jervaise has stated that he remains still, we move on to round 2. Meycho and Falling Star are next.

Male Halfling Inquisitor 8

Meycho waits until Falling Star comes swooping in from the rear before stepping forward and stabbing with both his daggers, calling upon Ketephys' guidance to inflict as much damage as possible.

Falling Star moves to P25, using Acrobatics to avoid AoOs: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8, before attacking with his beak:

Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Damage: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Meycho steps to M22 and double attacks.
1st Attack: (Power Attack, Heroism, Flanking, Inspire Courage) 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (11) + 16 = 27
1st Damage: (Power Attack, Heroism, Precise Strike, Judgement, Inspire Courage) 1d3 + 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (2) + (4) + 13 = 19

2nd Attack: (Power Attack, Heroism, Flanking, Inspire Courage) 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (7) + 16 = 23
2nd Damage: (Power Attack, Heroism, Precise Strike, Judgement, Inspire Courage) 1d3 + 1d6 + 10 ⇒ (2) + (2) + 10 = 14

Mummy's Mask Campaign slides | Storyteller extraordinaire

Despite Falling Star's agility, the thorn-giant still manages to whip it's head around and impale the proud bird on it's thorns.

AoO:

Gore attack 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Dmg 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Grab 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Thorny grasp Dmg 1d8 ⇒ 8

Meycho is sprayed by the blood and feathers of his companion, as Falling Star desperately tries to escape the thorns. It fails miserably, and only manages to impale itself further. It does, however, succeed in tearing chunks of the creature's flesh with it's beak.

Falling Star takes a total of 17 dmg and is grappled! Ouch.

Outraged at the torment of his animal friend, Meycho slashes furiously at the thorn-giant, adding deep cuts to the ones Falling Star made. The thorn-creature staggers under the assault, and stares down at the small inquisitor in anguished amazement. It staggers, but does not quite fall.

Big baddie is on 0 hp. Ironically, Meycho being denied flank and thus loosing the benefit of Precise Strike is JUST enough to keep this guy standing - which is probably bad news for the grappled Falling Star.

Let see if our other bird/PC team does any better. Caelin and Aumgwe, show us what you got!

Fort save for Taecuss: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12 -> Another point of CON dmg and a new roll next round.

The combined assault of Aumgwe and Caelin quickly finish off the wounded thorn-giant between them. Caelin turns to swing at the one hiding in the brambles, but without the distraction of attacks from multiple sides, that one just barely manages to deflect the swing of the brutal cold-iron greatsword.

Recognizing the ranger as the greatest threat, the thorn-giant drops it's battleaxe and lays into Caelin with everything it's got.

A thorn-covered fist manages to graze Caelin, but fails to grab hold. 2 hp dmg to Caelin. No grapple or poison.

On the other side of the thorn wall, Meycho can only watch helplessly as the thorn-creature continues to squeeze the life out of Falling Star. It locks eyes with Meycho and smiles coldly as it relishes the squeaks of pain. Then it's eyes glaze over and it sags to it's knees and topples over, Falling Star swooping free just in time to avoid being crushed. 4 dmg to Falling Star.

Goodluck is up. Both thorn-creatures outside the wall of thorns are down.

Updated Map

Goodluck watches the creatures fall, his transformation having failed to penetrate the creature's will. He can barely see the creature hiding in the brush, but he knows he must help if he is able.

Goodluck, I think you have misread the Oracle's spell info. An oracle selects EITHER cure or inflict - just as a neutral cleric can choose whether he wants to channel positive or negative energy. You don't get both.

You're absolutely right. I'll drop Remove Fear from my list of 1st levels and keep Inflict Light Wounds.

Rolled the AoO and miss chance in preview before I noticed the cure/inflict issue.

Obviously delighted by the frustration showing on the rangers face, the thorn-creature grins wickedly at him. "Your sword is sharp, elf - how sharp are your eyes?" it taunts, before suddenly shrinking rapidly in size. In the blink of an eye, everyone have lost sight of it. You hear a rustle as the spriggan shifts position, but it is impossible to tell where in the massive cube of thorny brambles it is hiding.

Goodluck is up, in case you are wondering.

Goodluck peers into the thorns, seeing nothing. Where did that horrid thing go? Well, if he used magic to do it, perhaps Goodluck can use magic to render it less than useful.

Mummy's Mask Campaign slides | Storyteller extraordinaire

Goodluck, I'm not quite sure what you are trying to do here. The mist will serve to hide your friends stuck in the hedge, but they already get better concealment from the thorns if the enemy is adjacent to them. And while Water Sight will let you see normally through the mist, it will not make you see better (and I already rolled perception checks for all of you). Oh, and one last thing - it shrank to small size during it's turn.

I was operating under the assumption that it went invisible, not shrank. I was trying to find the large invisible creature by seeing where the displaced mist created by an invisible creature was. However, since it didn't go small, I'll rescind that obscuring mist and move toward whoever is the most hurt without entering the thorny patch.

Mummy's Mask Campaign slides | Storyteller extraordinaire

Ah, I see. That makes more sense. Unfortunately, the spriggan is using plain old stealth to hide. Since Meycho is currently the only other PC outside the thorn wall, you move next to him. Anything else? If not, Taecuss is up. No allies within range. Heal yourself?

Round 4: 30/53 HP, Inspired +2

Caelin inhales deeply as he slides through the thorns and closer to his foe. He staggers his steps and thrusts powerfully at the leaping spriggan.

PA Greatsword 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14
Damage: 2d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 4) + 15 = 21

The sword point buries itself in the ground, and Caelin must yank it free to attempt his next swing. Swearing soft curses in elvish, he attempts to catch the spriggan on his sword's edge before the creature gets away in the thorns.

PA Greatsword 2nd Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Damage:2d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 6) + 15 = 23

Caelin sighed and tried to regain his cool as he awaited the inevitable taunting from the gnome-like sniper. To keep himself busy, he ordered Aumgwe to stay hunting above.

I believe we are to Meycho. I read Jervaise's post to mean he wasn't going to act on his round. Is that right?

Mummy's Mask Campaign slides | Storyteller extraordinaire

Hi everyone, sorry for the hold-up. I've been away on vacation with my family, and didn't have internet available except on my phone. I'll move things along shortly.

GM rolls:

Stealth 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 30

Perception:
Taecuss: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26
Caelin: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (12) + 14 = 26
Jervaise: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (6) + 13 = 19
Goodluck: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Meycho: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (15) + 12 = 27
Falling Star: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
Aumgwe: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26

Caelin is once again treated to a wicked, cruel smile before the twisted thorn-creature ducks into the brambles, lost to the sight of everyone - well, almost everyone. From the arm of Meycho, Falling Star shrieks in anger, his sharp eyes having caught sight of the hiding spriggan.

Taecuss, Jervaise and Goodluck.
