Greyston starts to rub his temples as the woman tells her tale, grimly he speaks up. "So more things to do, more expectations." He reaches for his flask but only taps it just knowing its there is an enough for now.

"Can you give us any information on what we can expect? What are we going into?" He looks to the woman waiting for Corrleon to translate.

this could be a good thing Greyston, our goal remains the same. Now though we may have discovered more allies to aid us he says noting the worried expression on the alchemists face
they will not willingly surrender the item we need and so we must take inevitably take it by force. If that brings an end to the tyranny these folk live under then all the better. If there is a way we can free these lands then we will do it

<Of the Fortress, I can tell you nothing.> she says plainly.

<But one of my people’s most holy sites is a place called the Rimekeening Crevasse, located in lands that the dragon has driven the us from and forbidden us from returning. Although it is taboo for outsiders to set foot in the crevasse, the shaman will not be happy, Baknarla is willing to guide you there.>

<It is the last resting place of our hero Sarnok, wind whisper his name.>

<Sarnok was a mighty warrior-shaman who lived long ago and slew many dragons with his magic spear. The old tales say that one day Sarnok set out to explore the depths of the Rimekeening Crevasse and was never seen again, but that he will return some day to guide his people to glory once more.>

<If Baknarla can find Sarnok’s grave, there must be something there, some relic of our hero that I can bring back to my people to restore their hope. At the same time, you can take Sarnok’s legendary spear, and use to slay Yrax!> she says snatching up her own spear and then mightily thrusting it back down into the snow to demonstrate how you should do it.

The mighty dragonkin Efrixes steps forward then and says;

I have actually heard of Sarnok. Dragons of all kinds learned to fear his spear long ago. he shrugs. There might be some truth to this, but it doesn't help you get into Ivoryglass.

<Hidden way!> Baknarla cries in response. <From the crevasse into Ivoryglass. Very dangerous, but soldiers will not see you come from that way, you will be in before they know it.>

Corum pumps the air with a fist "Now we have a plan! Magic spear that kills dragons and a back door to the fortress. Let's get on with it. Lead the way my friend." He says to their would-be guide.

<Baknarla can lead you into the crevasse and we can find the way together. Long way, and dangerous too but safer than going across the glacier.> the wolf-girl says.

The dragonkin seem to be having a conversation among themselves, the Bescaylie also involved. She is the one to step forward.

We can still see those patrols on the horizon. Without magic I can't see how we can get passed them unnoticed so maybe this is your best shot. The Commander agreed we would take you as far as we could and I think it is probably here that we should part ways - the 'kin aren't suited to flight through the crevasse.

She offers each of you her hand and says;

It's been an honour serving with you all. I wish you fair winds and good luck.

Corrleon embraces his niece as the group prepares to split away with Baknarla. He touches his temple to her left and whispers his parting words for her ears only. He then turns to shake hands earnestly with Efrixes next, "Until we meet again, old friend."

As the dragonkin and Bescaylie depart, he sniffles once, the sound catching in his throat like a choked off cough. He turns back to the others and his eyes are plainly wet, which he makes no effort to hide. He smiles warmly with a nod, "Ah, but I am proud of that one. Come, let us proceed. This crevasse will not traverse itself."

He turns to Elleross. "Free these lands... what next? We'll be taken to another planet, another plane and be expected to save everyone. But we can't help ourselves." He looks over to Sapphire, she has been so quiet. It breaks his heart thinking about her and how close she came to death.

----

Greyston turns back to the wolf woman pondering on the crevasse and the way into Ivoryglass, feeling the unending pull on him he lets out a long sign. "Ok it's sorted. Let's get a move on." He gets up wiping the snow off him.

He turns to Bescaylie, dreading traveling in the snow after the ease they flew here. "Thank you for the ride. It is extremely appreciated. I hope you have a safe trip back, and a long life ahead of you."

Soon the dragon kin are little more than specs in the distance as they return home and Elleross draws out his pipe and fills it, popping a tinder twig with his finger he lights it and draws deeply on the fragrant smoke.
He watches Greyston walkingvahead, shoulders hunched and his feet almost dragging through the snow.
Moving along side him he can see how hard this journey has been for him.
Grey, we have little choice at the moment, we must follow these damn bread crumbs and leap through all the hoops along the way he says puffing our several smoke rings but by helping these folk we ultimately help ourselves, we will be one step closer to our goal. We won’t always be bound by this damn curse, the day will come when we rid ourselves of it I promise you. Greyston forces a smile, as he appeases the group. "No choice." He let's that hang in the air, curses flash through his mind. "Another long walk it is then. I'm learning to ignore the cold, it's numbing me to a lot of things. On ward." He points out to the white nothingness.

Sorry guys, real bsy day today. Will get an update and map going tomorrow though.

Bescylie embraces Corrleon.

Please stay safe uncle. I don't want to have found you after all this time only to lose you now.

The dragonkin say their goodbyes also, shaking your hands with their claws in the preferred humanoid way before the squad readies up and before long are mere dots in the sky.

Baknarla drops to all fours and sniffs around in the snow for a few moments. Eventually she seems to pick up whatever scent she was hunting for and says;

<This way.> without looking back at you.

She guides you over the course of several hours to the edge of a vast fracture in the glacier, which stretches off into the distance in both directions. The rift is about 500 feet wide at this point, but it narrows sharply as it descends into the glacier.

Freezing winds whistle through the crevasse, producing an eerie wailing that at times seems to sound like the lonely cry of a grieving woman.

<Down there. We must climb.> she says.

It has been three hours to get here (for the purposes of active spells)

Dropping the pearl back into his pouch he turns to the others

I am ready to do this, we all need to leap off the edge at the same time. Don’t worry, the spell will activate instantly and we will all float to the bottom. he says as he moves to the edge

To the south of you, a deep crack splits the wall of the crevasse and from it emerge a pair of slithering, multilegged white reptiles with a fearsome head crowned with two large, curling horns.

Moving toward the other side of the crevasse Elleross can now see the two fearsome creatures clearly and he recognises them instantly.
there are creatures like these on Golarion, Behirs they are called but these are different, they are suited to this climate. They are aggressive and deadly and totally immune to the cold he says as he begins to cast a spell

Hello everyone! Thanks for picking me JZ, i look forward to playing with you all!

I'll go through Greystons stats again and make sure everything is up to scratch.

Male Elf Roof Runner (Rogue) 1 | HP 8 | AC 17, touch 14, flat-footed 13 | Perc +5 | Init +4 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will -1

A pleasure to make your acquaintance, everyone!

Again, thank you for selecting Blacksheaf, I am very much looking forward to adventuring with all of you. I will make sure my character is prepared for the upcoming journey, post haste.

I feel an introduction of myself is in order. I'm 27 years old, a student of History on my second year and used to work in security and waiting/bartending. Now I work in the biggest Zoo in Norway, though mostly just during the summer.

Looking forward to getting to know the lot of you through the course of our adventure!

Thanks Arunor, good to meet you, was a really tough choice but I think we have a great variety here.

Just a little about myself, I’m 31 and a User Experience researcher and designer for the UK public sector. I’ve been playing since the days of 2e D&D and using the play by post format for Pathfinder for about the last 2 years.

I’m looking forward to this campaign because it offers something quite different to all the others I’ve read and I hope to keep up a good pace to keep the story progressing whilst introducing you to a fun and interesting cast of characters and villains.

In terms of preparing for the coming journey, I think there's an important distinction here in that although the book is obviously very focussed on cold weather, there is very little as a clue to that at the start of book 1 for your characters. Taldor is a very fertile and warm nation so I noticed a few people in recruitment purchasing cold-weather gear, snowshoes and sledges with their starting gold which I didn't think was appropriate given the starting location.

Without giving much away, I think the shift from the sun-drenched Taldor to the wind-swept and frozen Irisen is going to make for excellent roleplaying.

Hello everyone :)

Nasrin is a survivor. She understands that the world is hard and ugly, but she also understands that the best path to survival is having a strong pack to support you.

Wolfpack of One

Looking forward to having Nasrin meet her new wolfpack ;)

Hi all. Thanks for letting me play J.

By way of into to others. I am 39 and an a DnD veteran of some 20+ years! Started playing 1st edition but quickly moved to 2nd. In all that time I've never played a barbarian. Time for some smashing!

Looking forward to working with you all. Looks like an interesting line up. I reckon this could be good!

I'm fairly new to pathfinder. This is only my second campaign. I am currently playing another Jamzilla game and have to praise his dm style. Really strong narratives, emotive imagery and really lets us get down to some good role playing.

Anyway, I see my character as something of an outcast and nomad. No big destiny story arc, just a down on his luck mercenary (with the odd skeleton in the closet!)

Thanks for the hint about starting position J. I'd geared up for cold weather start - and it was due to feature in my back story. I'll have to rewrite that now, but no big deal.

Female Human (Kellid) Druid 8 | HP 67 | AC 16 FF 15 T 11 | Saves +9/+6/+12 | Init + 4 | Percep +16, Scent

lol Corum, I still have my 1st ed DMG (with Efreet Cover!) and the old Deities and Demigods (with Cthulhu and Melnibonian mythos!)

Don't worry too much about being new to PF, it's 3.5 only Better :)

* * *

Side note, are your stats right? Twenty Point build, and you have:
Stat / Cost
15 / 7
14 / 5
16(14)/ 5
10 / 0
11 / 1
10 / 0
Total: 18

*I am assuming you bought a 14 CON and added +2 for the Racial Bonus :)

As long as we all know why we are in Taldor then that's fine although you might want to read through eachother's backstory and consider whether any of you know any of the others.

-How long have you known eachother?
-How did you meet?
-Why are you in Heldren?
-How long have you been here?
-What do you plan to do next?

Female Human (Kellid) Druid 8 | HP 67 | AC 16 FF 15 T 11 | Saves +9/+6/+12 | Init + 4 | Percep +16, Scent

Nasrin and Thorn are wanderers. She is not exactly running from her roots in eastern Irrisen, but neither is she really willing to go back... Her campaign trait fits well: Restless Wayfarer.

I would say the only other PC that Nasrin might be associated with would be Corum. Maybe they met on their travels and have found some security with each other's support?

Male Elf Roof Runner (Rogue) 1 | HP 8 | AC 17, touch 14, flat-footed 13 | Perc +5 | Init +4 | Fort +0, Ref +6, Will -1

Arunor also merrits the Restless Wayfarer trait, but he has lived in Lionsguard for a few months, having come down from the mountains to the east beforehand.

I am not sure I managed to portray his restless spirit well enough in his profile, but hopefully some light has been cast upon his reason for leaving Lionsguard and why he is searching for fortune and adventure.

As far as Arunor is concerned, he is only stopping by Heldren to stock up on three items of interest: rumors, gossip and supplies.

Thanks Nasrin. You're right. My stats were too low. As a barbarian, maths isn't my strong point! Lol.

Sorted now. Also completed my back story. Mosy recently Corum has been a caravan guard. Recently finished an escort job which brought him to town.

It makes sense for him and Nasrin to fall in woth each other. Both restless wayfarers, both wilderness types. Maybe Nasrin joined up with the caravan Corum was guarding a couple of weeks ago or something similar?

Female Human (Kellid) Druid 8 | HP 67 | AC 16 FF 15 T 11 | Saves +9/+6/+12 | Init + 4 | Percep +16, Scent

How about they know each other from their travels together, and Corum convinced her to go with the caravan. So, the two wildlings hired on as scouts and outriders?

Sounds like a good idea to me. My backstory pretty much allows me to hail from anywhere iny recent past. So they met up any time during the last 12 months (in my back story) and have been travelling together since.

Have to think of some nice anecdotes from our recent past. Like the time you gave that aerogant noble those mushrooms because he stiffed us on payment for some work. Needless to say he didn't sit down for a week for fear of soiling himself!

First gameplay post is up!

I will post links to maps for combat and reference in the Campaign Info Tab so that they always appear at the top of the current gameplay page you are viewing (such as the map of Heldren above).

Any questions, please just ask and remember feedback is always appreciated.

Have fun!

Hey, I'll jump in and tell you a little about myself i'm 26 and currently work for a medical distributor - working from home so im normally very active if nothing major is happening.

Started playing 3.5 about 3-4 years ago, my first real taste but i was always interested just never found a group to play it with. Then moved to pathfinder about 2 years ago and haven't looked back.

Greyston hasn't been in town long maybe a week? so anyone in town might have seen him trying to sell his wares - coining his alchemical tonics as a cure all, to all the towns troubles. If anyone would have spoken to me im happy to run with it.

Hi all,
Thanks for choosing me j.
I'm looking forward to this campaign, only my third one on pbp .
I'm 36, been playing dnd since 1st edition and am loving pathfinder.
Looking forward to developing Ellross and this seems like an interesting group.
Ellross would have just arrived in town I think, he's not likely to know anyone but Greyston may have heard of me or our families could have known each other as they have a similar background and come from the same city .
Look forward to exploring that angle.

I have a break from the field! However, with that good news, I have some bad news... apparently someone somewhere has decided Paizo should be a blocked site. I sometimes hate having a 'geek' or niche hobby, if I were a football nut, I'd never lack for ESPN... :/

So, I am going to try my best to get access as I can but we will see. I know I will have access Sat/Sun, but limited again come Monday...

No worries, Nasrin. We are really only beginning in earnest this week and provided the party decides to speak to the mercenary that will likely take up a day or two in any case, not to mention the party actually introducing themselves to eachother and getting acquainted.

So I'm sure you'll be back before the party sets out to search for the missing noblewoman :-D

I forgot to mention Hero Points.

We will be using them and everybody starts with 1.

Hero Points can be spent at any time and do not require an action to use (although the actions they modify consume part of your character’s turn as normal). You cannot spend more than 1 hero point during a single round of combat. A hero may have a maximum of 2 hero points at any one time. Whenever a hero point is spent, it can have any one of the following effects.

• Bonus: A hero point grants you a +4 luck bonus to any one d20 roll. You can use a hero point to grant this bonus to another character, as long as you are in the same location and your character can reasonably affect the outcome of the roll (such as distracting a monster, shouting words of encouragement, or otherwise aiding another with the check).

• Extra Action: You can spend a hero point on your turn to gain an additional standard or move action this turn. If that action is casting a spell, the spell must be at least three spell levels lower than your maximum.

• Inspiration: If you feel stuck at one point in the adventure, you can spend a hero point and petition the GM for a hint about what to do next. If the GM feels that there is no information to be gained, the hero point is not spent.

• Recall: You can spend a hero point to recall a spell you have already cast or to gain another use of a special ability that is otherwise limited. This should only be used on spells and abilities possessed by your character that recharge on a daily basis.

• Reroll: You may spend a hero point to reroll any one d20 roll you just made. You must take the results of the second roll, even if it is worse.

• Cheat Death: A character can spend 2 hero points to cheat death. How this plays out is up to the GM, but generally the character is left alive, with negative hit points but stable. For example, a character is about to be slain by a critical hit from an arrow. If the character spends 2 hero points, the GM decides that the arrow pierced the character’s holy symbol, reducing the damage enough to prevent him from being killed, and that he made his stabilization roll at the end of his turn. Cheating death is the only way for a character to spend more than 1 hero point in a turn. The character can spend hero points in this way to prevent the death of a familiar, animal companion, eidolon, or special mount, but not another character or NPC.

I will also put this in the Campaign Info tab for reference.

We don't need Power Points! All of my Power Comes from Monster Drinks! You know the logo is Hebrew for 6-6-6 and the cross in the O of the logo is inverted when you drink from it.

Hail Satan and all that. :p

j/k

Monster tastes gross though :/

No Corum, I wasn't going to bother with power points this time, this is a higher wealth campaign than Carrion Crown so I don't think you need the boost as much.

It is a Ulfberht style sword, a traditional Viking sword as per this image

Although we might term it a broadsword, mechanically it is a cold iron longsword.
