It tosses a bomb almost casually toward Cara as it moves past.

With a gesture Davos unleashes a Hellish blast of apocalyptic flame that entirely engulfs the lich. It goes up like a stack of dry kindling, lurching this way and that in the small corridor, filling the place with stinking smoke before mercifully collapsing to the ground.

A sudden calm falls on the strange room as the Lich falls. "Search his body." He says to Davos and Cara, He then begins to search the room. "A quick search now, Lich can regenerate with in a day of their death or longer. We have time to play with but if we can find anything it will help."

There is nothing in the room that suggests it would be the lich's phylactery


Tremendously complicated alchemical equipment crowds the wooden tables in this chamber, all condensing some thick, black fluid. Iron spikes impale several drained corpses to the walls, their bodies sprouting leaky hoses filled with vile ichor.

The alchemical equipment in this room is the most complex set up you have ever come across. It features dozens of feet of glass tubing, several heat sources and stills and a number of other pieces of equipment you don't even recognise.

Looking around the room Markus is a little surprised to figure out just what this place was making. "This is where the Carrion Crown Elixir was being formulated, I'm only guessing its too late. Erek, the Ravens Head is a part of bringing about the Whispering Tyrant we all need to keep an eye on it now more than ever. It's the safest it could be with us but we're also walking it right too them."

Continuing his search and finding nothing of use or the Liches Phylactery in the room so he calls to the others. "Use whatever you found on him, we will need it." He says as he moves to the door leading out. "I hope that's the straightest thing we'll see down here." He says stepping past of the golem to the door, Standing next to the door checking for traps and attempting to listen past it.

Taking the fine headband , Jon slips it onto his head and watches Markus and Davos study the strange apparatus.
After a minute or so he fades back to his normal size as the magic within him dissipates.

With only one exit from the room, that being a door to the north east, the group presses on.

For those with active buffs, it has been a minute since the end of the Lich/Golem fight

Irregular pools of fetid water mar the floor of this chamber like the exposed marrow of sawed bone, and a harsh acidic vapor burns the nostrils. Funerary urns sealed with thick red wax line the perimeter of the chamber, and several more rest on a small island in the room’s center.

There is a single door to the south east and a set of double doors to the north.

As it does so, several urns and containers are revealed, covered in years of grime and muck.

"Erek maybe... " He is cut off as the man runs in and starts to smash the urns. Then stands back scanning the room attempting to detect magic.

Erek begins smashing the urns with wild abandon. Many just burst, releasing the gloopy jellified remains of cadavers onto the damp ground. Others contain funery items including a Lesser strand of prayer beads, 6 pieces of onyx worth 400gp each and one containing a perfecly preserved corpse of a gnome in a thick, honey-like substance.

Knowledge arcana DC 25:

The thick substance covering the gnome's body is what is preserving it and could be harvested to effectively become 6 doses of Cure Serious Wounds

Markus takes up the prayer beads and collects the others onyx but doesn't take the honey like substance. "Strange... That Dwarf is so preserved because of that honey like substance. I don't intend on messing with him." He then points to the north. "Let's check up there first." He moves carefully to the double door listening to them and then opening if he hears nothing.

Markus opens the double doors leading north.

The temperature drops to a cavernous chill as rough-hewn stairs give way to cramped catacombs. The smell of old decay emanates from dozens of alcoves containing broken skeletal remains, their eyeless skulls staring forward into emptiness with dead, vacuous gazes.

The stairs give way to a narrow corridor that twists and turns off into the darkness.

Whilst the others search the room he draws upon his powers and bolsters his defences before moving across to cara and Davos he lays his hands upon them and channels his powers into them.

Jon trudges warily into the catacombs but it isn't long before the corridor narrows significantly and he finds himself both stooping and twisting in order to fit.

After around 100 feet the corridor continues to twist, dozens upon dozens of funeral hollows carved in the walls. It continues both south and north in a serpentine, labyrinthine manner.

Markus thanks Jon for his protection and follows the man into the catacombs signaling the others to follow. As they get to a split in the tunnel Markus stands there and attempts to listen.

Survial: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 or +12 for tracking, checking for tracks...


Markus scans the area for tracks but finds none among the mucky, fetid pools that gather here and there among the catacombs.

The entire area is covered in a layer of dust and each of the bodies interred here seem to have been done so according to Pharasmin burial practices. None of them appear disturbed and this area doesn't seem to have been travelled in a long time.

Markus crouches down checking for signs anyone has been down this way. "I don't think anyone has been down here in a long time." He swipes at a wall caked in cobwebs and dust. "Let's turn around and head through the other door in the flooded room. This seems like a dead end and a waste of time." He turns and walks out of the fridged coldness of the catacombs.

Heading over to the other door he stands and listens to it checking for any sign of trap before waiting for the others and then opening it.

you are right Markus, this place hasn't been used for a long time Jon agrees and he follows the priest back into the flooded room.
As Markus and the others examin the door he draws upon his powers once more and his blade again begins to vibrate with energy.

There are no signs of traps although you can hear voices in the room beyond, seemingly in casual conversation

Dirty rugs and torn pillows cover the floor of this natural cavern, and a thick, heavy fog pervades the air, glowing with the faint flicker of candlelight and carrying with it an unusual stench of moldering chrysanthemums. Everywhere stare the mortared skulls of the dead.

Half a dozen of the robed Whispering Way monks you have encountered previously seem to be in the room beyond, jut out of sight, but they are not alarmed and seem to be laughing and joking among themselves.

Jon moves forward towards the sound of the voices and their easy chatter and seeming indifference to the intruders in their lair sets his teeth on edge and he can't help feeling something is not quite right.

Several broken phials litter the ground, and a small rack of full haunt siphons sits on a nearby table beside the monks. The fog in the room is heavy and creates a haze that is difficult to see through (concealment for everyone) but through it Jon can make out that the monks are passing around an open haunt siphon and cupping their hands over the opening while taking deep, ragged breaths through the opening.

There's nothing unusual about the smoke, it's just caused by a lot of scented candles, torches and the like. If you move in to the point where you can see the group you'll know they are effectively getting intoxicated on small bursts of necromantic energy they suck from the haunt siphons.
