I am sorry but I am going to have to back out of this game. Its moving too slowly for me to stay motivated.

Pity I quite liked sniping at you ;^).

I do hope you reconsider. It is sometimes nice to have a slow paced game along with the quicker jobs.

But either way it's been fun and I'll see you round the boards.

Too bad, this is quite a blow to the team...

... on both the RP side and the more mechanic one. See you around on the boards

So, barring the angry half elf reconsidering are we reopening recruiting? It's soon enough to just ret-con whoever into Shalewen's shoes.

Thanks for the heads up Shalewen,

If anyone else feels the same way, we might be able to pick up the tempo. Otherwise, I stand by "we post when we can."

Suppose I'm going to have to write her out soon, and I want to reach out to some of our other earlier applicants to see if any of them are interested in jumping in.

Fortunately, Shalelu is still around for now.

I am good either way

I would appreciate more posting in general. I usually hold myself to posting once a day, if other people have posted in the meanwhile.

Of course, this wholly depends on the group. From what I can see, it seems that the fight is motivating people to write. However, it would be nice if it was so outside of battle too...

My posting has been low as of late but when exams are all done I should try and post more. I'm fine with whatever pace.

To expand upon my response to Laurentii,

Anyone approaching within 10ft of the moss must make a DC12 fort save or fall asleep.

The moss does not get a turn, so all you have to say is something like, "I approach the bridge with a lit torch and begin to light the dry wood of the bridge on fire." and so it shall be. Just remember, you have some friends on there.

Sorry guys, but this game really isn't my cup of tea (speed of posting, role play wise and so on), I am going to bow out of it.

Still, I hope that you can go on and that you have a good time!

Dark Archive

It does seem we had some early RP issues, and some people post faster than others.

Play by Post is an endeavour of persistence, though. As these games stretch on for years and years at a time, it is important we invest that time in stories we want to tell, in characters we want to see and interact with. I wouldn't be running Jade Regent if I did not want to hear the story out.

So, in so many words, courage friends.

Furthermore, every PBP game of Jade Regent seems to have a very awkward time handling the tavern and initial start from Sandpoint. I am flabberghasted as to why.

I mean, it's a trope. Isn't it a trope because it's simple in execution?

I do believe the initial RP issues stemmed from most people wanting to be loners. I had hoped that Lou would have known people but some did express that was not a in cards

also the push to get right into the story can be a problem. more time establishing relationships and such as well as non-AP scenes might have helped out some.

Possibly some event to stress the goblin presence.

just my thoughts really.

to be honest. this group as a whole seemed to lack something thus my reduced posting. not quite knowing what to do.

Dark Archive

I agree with most of what you are saying, Lou. However, I find nothing packing in our pack.
On that point, I disagree.

I think we started with a set of creative players. Fortunately, what little unpleasantness seems to have resolved itself.

We have a friendly cavalier, an imaginative student of magic, and a Kasuri.
The three musketeers, and those who count the most. Now more than ever.

I think the issue is that the starting motivation, killing goblins for pocket money, is outdated. Look at the other AP's. None of the others, at least none that I know of, put this kind of old school murder-hoboing so front and center. It is jarring.

Rise of the Runelords is close but in that AP the goblins actually attack the town, do real damage and kill folks. The threat is direct, existential, and immediate. Here the threat is indirect, attacks on the road not the town, annoying rather than existential, damage to trade rather than burning buildings and corpses, and offering minimal time pressure. It is simply not a good start, esp for a pbp where the players do not know each other and there is less social pressure to work together.
Compare with the start of Skull and Shackles or Wrath of the Righteous to see what I am talking about. Both of these start in media res and force the pc's to work together against an immediate threat. I am a HUGE fan of in media res starts. They focus the players attention in a very satisfactory manner.

RE:Current issues. Are we reopening recruitment? It is not unusual to suffer 50% or more player loss in the beginning of an AP. Or perhaps contacting the best of the non-picked folks would work?

Dark Archive

Sorry, I've been busy with work. (Hence posting late night stateside more often than not.) I'll be sending out PMs this week.

I want to reach out to some of our recruits from earlier first. In the meantime, I'll bot Laurentii and Shalewen.

Maybe they will ride off to live in Magnimar or something.

Question before the party at the moment: What do you do now that you've found the village?

While it is abnormal to lose these people and keep going, I have no problem with a three-person party.

Can you take us off the active players list?

Ink. Currently a raven.

Hey boss.

Any results on the finding more bodies front?

I am loathe to really move much as the new players will not want to miss any action.

Dark Archive

Rest assured we can work new players in as necessary.

So, in terms of roll call,
We have alfonso and lou I assume?

Trig Jegman, are you still around?

Male Gnome Cavalier/1

Still around. I'm cool with looking in the village now.

Dark Archive

Sorry gents, it's been a busy month.

Life only gets busier it seems.

Male Gnome Cavalier/1

I also apologise, had to get on a plane from Dublin to New York the other day and am still traveling.
