I wholeheartedly endorse the idea of an inquisitor. I have really enjoyed playing this guy in a different campaign, and it's been a load of fun.

Thanks for the roll call. That is quite helpful.

I am still tweaking the skills and traits but envision Corellon as a second line combatant, occasionally a first line combatant (as Elwyn and Harboth have played out). With weapon finesse and high dex combined with high initiative I plan to be able to bounce around combat and attack from any angle, flanking, etc. I was originally thinking a skill/knowledge focus but with the alchemist and possible inquisitor we will likely have those covered so I will have to see.

I am ok with more people, just up the difficulty a bit. Also, with the pace that we maintain - having more people should be less of an issue than when you are waiting on someone in initiative order to take the next turn.

Male Human Wizard (Transmuter) 1

Eventually Ill get every knowledge covered, so dont worry about them. Ill be generous with buffs if you keep me up.

Tiefling M Monk 1(Sohei/MoMS)

Glad you're still with us, Harboth. I'm especially glad to be able to shelter some of my own tardiness in the shadow of your understandable delays.

I agree, Corellon, JCServant's handling of intiative and rapid pacing bode well for continuity.

Aljani, good to hear it. I might let the History slide off BD, then. Keeping the Religion, I think. But Pro:Bodyguard might sit nicely in History's space.

Ok so that everyone can take a look - here is what i am equating as Inquisitor tank :D

Good stuff. I'm going to put one or two more of you into Herolabs. Almost everyone is signed up in dropbox, but not all....so make sure you get signed up (see previous post about 5 or 10 back). If you have it installed, you will get the updated PDF automatically when I save it.

Grand Lodge

Tessai...I need you to tell me what skills you put ranks into. Also, what gives you proficiency with rapier? HL is showing not proficient.

Grand Lodge

SOme of this stuff may be on your sheets...but I didn't see it in my tired mode....

Aljani...What's your arcane bond? Any armors/weapons?
Black Devil...Languages...
Tessia...Languages, including Infernal or Abyssal for free, Skill pts and Name of deity.

Your three sheets are updated on the PDF, so please look them over in case I missed anything.

Tiefling M Monk 1(Sohei/MoMS)

Please refer to recent PMs. Stats, languages, skills(he should lose History) are all discussed

(RETIRED) Human Alchemist 6 | HP 57 | AC 18 FF 16 T13 | Saves +7/+7/+6 (+4 disease, +2 poison) | Init + 2 | Percep +10

Given the lack of diplomacy, intimidate or sense motive on his skills list, im thinking of taking the chirurgeon (sp?) archetype to help out with some secondary healing instead ooc. Also, the vivisectionist archetype seems to dovetail nicely as well since I think it replaces completely separate abilities. That would mean potentially 3 sneak attackers turning flanking situations into a total meat grinder plus i haven't got the feats to support bombing effectively. It also fits with my concept of duality.

Male Human Wizard (Transmuter) 1

Light Crossbow. My arcane bond will be a ring

GM I have sent you a PM with the details you requested.

Still haven't heard from you guys - you want an inquisitor tank or a fighter tank? :D

(RETIRED) Human Alchemist 6 | HP 57 | AC 18 FF 16 T13 | Saves +7/+7/+6 (+4 disease, +2 poison) | Init + 2 | Percep +10

Inquisitors bring more versatility and back up with knowledges, spells and so on. Fighters, in my opinion, are tankier tanks lol. Armor training, better hp etc. I would go for the inquisitor though personally.

Tiefling M Monk 1(Sohei/MoMS)

Bring the Inquisitor, if we feel under-tanked we can buff or hire it on, or try to Alpha-Nova. A bit curious what Harboth will roll in with, though.

Tessai it will be then :D

Tiefling M Monk 1(Sohei/MoMS)

You also save me having to gender-flip BD. 'Stag' parties look so much more suspicious than Jill+. Although the armored jagermonster-looking Tessai is hardly innocent-looking. :)

I suppose that's a bit I can flip at the last minute.

Vivi/Chir is a legal mix. Vivi > Beastmorph (or just Feral) > Edmond Harrow is quite synergetic.

Three Sneak Attackers means we might do well luring pursuers into a killzone. You can't always count on scouting>reporting>preparing>baiting, but you can always try to break into sharp pieces. I had one group the motto was, "We aren't running away; we're setting up the next ambush." :)

But about the bombs... if part of 'support bombing effectively' that worried you was Precise Bombs, you've got two frontline-ish Tieflings who will shrug off the splash damage. Sort of a ghetto Precise Bombs, there.

That's true but with a 20 point buy I dont want to be spread too thin. Brandon is capable in melee and sneak attack with his knowledge of anatomy fits well. I figure he's spent his time studying physiology more than physics hence chirugeon also. Once Edmond gets unleashed though with his level 2 feral mutagen he'll be a real monster and will serve the party far better upfront, happily tearing mooks apart.

I was only a little concerned about level 1 when everyone is a but squishy but 14 hp and 16 ac aren't terrible anyway.

Gm, I've sent my HL portfolio but just spotted an error. Instead of sending it again can you just take 1 point from diplomacy and put it in knowledge arcana.

Thanks

Current plan is to roll up a human fighter (maybe with a later dip into 2h ranger) - based on the llandsknecht mercenaries of early modern europe.

He will be a bit of a fop, though really just for flavor since we have some social skills and fighters get so few points. In combat, I see him being able to be flexible, but primarily a melee striker/offtank.

Let me know if anyone thinks this will overload us with front line fighters. I can always fudge this if we need to fill other gaps.

P.s. is there a trait that gives access to knowlwdge (nobility)?

I'd opt for the inquisitor as well.

Again I'm going to RP my skill system so I may start out with some things that are background driven that I may otherwise not get a chance to pratcice and up as we move through the adventure, we will see how it all works.

Update
Thanks guys. Hopefully I'll get more time to work on Herolabs tonight. Otherwise, it may have to wait for this weekend, as I'm jumping on a plane on Friday.

With Brandon's character, I believe I'll have 4 out of the 8...for those of you I don't have yet, I'll try to find your info linked here (but it would be easier if you could email it to me). Please make sure that your character info you send me makes it clear what your 'favored class bonus is' (If I can't find it, I presume HP), what you're spending your skill pts on and the equipment you buy.

Also, if *everyone* (Except Harboth..I got him) could send me an email with their real name, email and character name...so I can have that on a worksheet somewhere. We're going to be doing this for a while, and I'd like to know y'all on a first name basis.

Pimp Yourself
Along those lines, a few people here are new, and some of us (namely me) have really bad memories. So, let's also introduce ourselves here, and feel free to elaborate more on your character on seperate posts here through the weekend.

It's also a good idea to elaborate on your character more. Now, it's not required that you all know each other at all. However, it's also possible that some of you may. I'll let you all work that out here. If others know you well, you can go more into personality description...otherwise, keep it to physical description and maybe first impressions one might get of you.

Character Background Requirements and Documentation
One large assumption that Council of Thieves makes about the PCs is that none of them should be particularly fond of the way the government in Westcrown currently operates. So keep that in mind. For a lawful character, that may be a little bit of a challenge, but keep in mind that lawful does not mean blindly following leadership. Check out the Player's Guide for more details. BTW...if you have NOT read the PG, you should do so at your earliest convenience.

By Thursday, I would like every player to send me a backstory on your character. Please email it to me. It can be as short or as long as you'd like, but please put some solid effort into it. I will be putting this onto your HL file, but it generally doesn't show on the PDF (I don't think it does). If you want, you can feel free to post it here under a spoiler tag. Curious players may read it with the understanding that the knowledge is meta and should not be played upon at the table.

Deadlines
Here are the deadlines we are following for getting this going.
Sunday, October 14 - Everyone's character should be done and sent to me.
Tuesday, October 16 - I have everything in Herolabs and everyone has emailed me any concerns or things I missed in the PDF.
Thursday, October 18 - By this date, Herolab/PDF issues have been fixed and/or addressed. Everyone's PDF should be finalized. Character backstories should be completely done and sent to me.
Friday, October 19 - With any luck, I should have a chance to get the intro posted this day and we can kick this off. If I cannot, I will have it up on Monday.

About Phil
Salutations!

I'm Phil aka JCServant. I live in Utah, married for 14 years, and work in accounting. I've been playing D&D for about a quarter century (Man, I feel old), and Pathfinder for about a year and a half. I have run several Adventure paths (I love the setting of Golarion) and I have a level 17 homebrew campaign (Still running through skype and VTT). I almost always DM, as I love telling a good story and playing bad guys. I'm also the Pathfinder Society Venture-Captain for Utah, so I do a lot of local PFS and conventions. This is my second run at DM'ing a Pbp with my crazy online rule system. I'm looking forward to this!

This is a test

Ed / KRNVR / Thornborn / The Black Devil

Gaming 33 years, married 23 years, still have yet to complete any PFS scenario on these Paizo boards. Lots of PBP over the years, face-to-face fell off a cliff for a long while, but back at that some months now, hosting a game in Nashua, NH. I work as a geek/manager, with constant net access, and lots of 'hurry up and wait' moments that let me check forums, but also lots of sudden 'fires' that might keep me from getting a response out some days. So it's a wash.

BD backstory will post here after lunch. (but see 'fires', above)

Bruno/Tessai/Edeldhur/Telurion over here

Gaming for...phew... 20 years already? Damn!

Not married but with a wife and 2 kids (young ones). Working in Portugal/Europe as Network Engineer, and now after all this time back to school for my Business Management Degree. Constant net access, but for me the fires are always burning...

A lot going on at the moment, and building up yet another project - hoping to be the first Venture Captain her in my country (still thinking how to go about this one).

All in all, without actually knowing how, I manage time for posting here as often as I can :D

Have known it for a long time but am deeper into Pathfinder for about 6 months now and loving it. Running a homebrew, amazingly with usually 3 people around the table, one absent, and one on Skype.

JC,

I was just checking Herolab and only only now learned that it is not free software. Is it essential that we use it for this campaign?

About me:

I'm 43 and have been playing since about 1980 or 1981. But I have not played with an in-person group since the early 1990's. For the last four years I have been playing PbP games here and having a great time.

I've been married for seven years and have never even talked about D&D with my wife. She would just give me a funny look if I tried to explain it to her.

I chose a priest and one good thing about them is they get a talent comparable to bardic knowledge. I should have a good basis on all knowledge as well. Should we divide them up so we can have some we focus on and the others as secondary for each other? My character falls in tune with Local, Nobility, Religion, and Planes.

Nice to have everyone on board. I look forward to playing with you.

Grand Lodge

Yeah Stray Hal, I insist on using Herolabs. However, YOU don't have to have it at all. You can just email me your character info and I put it into my HL. From there, I have HL output your character into PDF (You should already see a PDF in the shared drive with a few PCs). There's also a PDF for abilites/gear and one for spells. As the campaign moves forward, I'll update HL periodically with purchases, Lv up info, etc...and update that PDFs. WIth Dropbox, you'll get the latest PDFs automatically.

This allows my players to enjoy many of the benefits of HL (Automated drived stats, gold tracking, nice PDF of character, etc) without the investment.

The knowledges available for Inquisitors are Religion, Planes and Nature - I had added Local because of the background trait and because neither bluff or diplomacy match the concept I had in mind for the character. Aside from that, all the other skills buffed by the trait are already no my skill list.

If I could stick with local would be nice, or I can swap it with The Planes if no one is investing on that, but it will leave me without any way of assisting in gathering information (asides from the Intimidation +5 :D )

I expect I will be skilling knowledge local.

Sean / BudFox / Elwyn /Corellon

I'm 38, married for 8 years with four buys under 7. Living in SW Indiana for the past 10 years, originally from Vancouver Canada. Work in risk management at an energy utility. Have been a weekly boardgamer for about 7-8 years now, attend Gen Con each year. Have always been a PC gamer. In my teens and for a stint in my mid twenties I used to AD&D, got into Pathfinder about 8 months ago after registering for PFS play at Gen Con, started PBP about that time. Don't get the chance to dedicated big blocks of time to gaming so PBP works very well for me. Still learning some of the nuanced rules and combo mechanics.

Stay with Local. It doesn't hurt to have to more then one person with the knowledge. Religion might be well covered so you can avoid that. If you feel a need to invest in Planes or Nature then go for it.

Jamie/Brandon/JamZilla

I live in Swansea, Wales and work as a public sector research and marketing analyst which is a big title for a boring job but I'm pretty dandy with Excel :) I live with GF of 3 years and my dog Parker.

I orignally started playing when I was a kid of about ten. Began with 2nd edition, moved on to 3rd and 3.5 in my teens and moved on to Pathfinder with a whole new gaming group about 1 year ago. Overall I have about 19 years experience (which actually shocked me when I realised it). I am currently DM for a tabletop game of Jade Regent as well.

I don't have access to the internet all the time in work as I feel like I barely spend any time at my desk but I should have no problem posting throughout the day.

I hope this doesn't make you regret selecting me Phil but this will actually be my first PbP game. But fer not, if I could wrap my head around THAC0 at age 10 I'm sure I'll pick this up pretty quickly!

I started my character with the following knowledge: Arcana, Geography, History, and Nobility. I am able to make knowledge checks for everything still.

I see Hal as a guy who does "dirty jobs" for respectable folks. He has built up some contacts in Westcrown's underworld over the years but has little gold to show for it. He is also aware that he is expendable to his employers and that when he goes out on his own entirely he will no longer have any protection from the established thieves.

Hal could operate as a face for the party and as a secondary combatant. I like the suggestion of a flanking team. Down the line I might dip into one or two levels of fighter but, if possible, I want to play Hal like a 1E thief.

JC, do you require combat expertise for other feats like improved disarm? I know some DMs houserule it as an option like fighting defensively.

Grand Lodge

Ayup. If its in the book, then you will need to grab the necessary pre-reqs. On the bright side, in my games there are ways to earn a bonus feat or two :) More to come if I ever get the time to work on my house rules.

I guess I'm gonna gravitate towards Knowledge (The Planes) cause that is something that doesn't seem covered yet. I am considering keeping Local just for flavor reasons.

GM, If i make changes to my char, how should I update you - send you the HL file?

BD, I tried the link you provided but I cannot reach it.

Guys, two things to share:

#1: It seems we are missing ranged firepower... (don't get me wrong, I couldn't care less about optimization - just saying)

#2: Now honestly... These many melee combatants... this is simply the PERFECT setup for my Inquisitor - you won't believe the kind of mayhem this girl can wrack up with multiple melees, you have no idea the kind of havoc my teamwork feats will wreck... MUAHAHAHAHAH!!!

(RETIRED) Human Alchemist 6 | HP 57 | AC 18 FF 16 T13 | Saves +7/+7/+6 (+4 disease, +2 poison) | Init + 2 | Percep +10

Regarding ranged support; one of my RL friends is desperate to play an archer ranger in a pbp game. But 9 PCs... practicaly a small army right there.

I had initially planned on an archer ranger - went to inquisitor tankish because we had no frontliner ;)

Half-Elven Rogue Lvl 2 HP 15/15 INIT+6 AC 16 CMB+3 CMD+17 Rapier/S. Sword (+6/+3 Dual +5,+1) 1d6+2/18-20x2, 1d6+2/19-20x2 Short Bow (+5) 1d6+2/x3 (F:0 R:6 W:0)

I am debating an archer rogue - could go point blank shot instead of weapon finesse, would lose elven reflexes but pick up the trait that gives longbow to the rogue. Could then do a level in ranger of fight for feats or just focus on the combat rogue feat in a level or two. It would kill some of the flanking benefits. Hmmm ...

I will need only... 2 melees besides me so that we can shine! ;)

Grand Lodge

Archer rogues are really hard, IMHO, because from my experiences, rogues get sneak from flanking WAY more than they do anything else. I wonder if there's a feat/rogue talent set that somehow makes ranged rogues more feasible.

Tessai...if you made changes, you can send me an updated POR. Once we officially being, changes (which at that point would be purchases, level ups, etc) will be done via email, board posts, etc.

Im Alex/Aljani. I hold the title of youngest gamer here at 17 years of age. Ive been gaming for a year and a half, and my rl group fell out, so I started pbp. I mostly do pf and mtg, but have experience with dnd (3.5, 4th) shadowrun and 40k. Pathfinder is my favorite though. Im running a kingmaker pbp here and playing in a bunch of games I picked up over thr summer that I keep up in

That could work. I say we can each go pick up ranks, and we never will fail a knowledge check between us

I will be flying tomorrow, and internet connectivity may very well be limited during layovers.

Right now my plan is to work on the house rules and the rest of the characters in herolabs during this weekend. Unless the 4G is down in the mountains where I'm at, I should have access to the internet and herolabs to keep you all updated as I make changes to the PDF in real time. Otherwise, it could be as late as Tuesday night.

I think I have 4 characters done...and there were a few issues (listed above). One of you got back to me and we got that character all straight..HL shows no more errors.

The rest of you, if you get a chance, email me the info as it will make it a lot easier to access if my bandwidth is limited to 2G.

Thanks!!
