Muziel starts looking for the trail of the remaining Allomar brother. Unfortunately, Muziel is confronted with the need to actually track where the fleeing brother went. Which is not exactly his specialty. Survival: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20. On the other hand, the guy was bleeding as he fled.

Cimri sleepily volunteers to keep watch for reinforcements as everyone goes along this little tracking expedition, though it's easy to tell that since there's actually been an attack, and tonight, that the prospect of waiting behind and alone makes her rather nervous. It would be quite easy to convince her to come with you if her help is desired.

Muziel is able to barely notice the footprints of the fleeing Allomar in the dirt road. There's a little bit of blood at first, but that soon vanishes because of the magical healing he was receiving at the time of his flight. Muziel is nevertheless able to follow the faint foot impressions in the road northwest until the first intersection adjacent to the Arch and Lark. Here the foot traffic is generally denser than by the jail since the Last Stand shut down. Go ahead and make another survival check to maintain the trail (anybody can attempt this if Muziel has been pointing it out as they go.)

"Lemme get this straight. The jail gets attacked by that priestess's brats and an angel and I get left out. Then you wake me up and drag my sleepy butt all the way out here after the angel's already dead? What the hell, guys?!" Ismene throws her arms in the air in frustration and grumbles. "I'm already up, so I might as well get in on whatever action's left. But if I've gotta be up, so do you, Sloth. Get your butt in gear and let's get this thing going!"

I'm considering Penelope's to be an Aid Other as well, and applying the two to Sister Ismene's check

Cimri pretends to be reluctant, but doesn't complain as she joins the rest of the group in the pursuit of the second Allomar. The trail is quite confused, but with help from the others, Sister Ismene is able to pick up the trail from where Muziel lost it, declaring that the fleeing cleric turned right, towards the center of town and the church of Iomedae. The trail remains faint until it gets to the church square, the generally busiest part of Longacre, and is ultimately lost completely in the well-traveled road.

Longacre's Church of Iomedae presides over a fenced yard with an orderly garden and a small cemetery. The church itself stands atop a 6-foot-tall, fortresslike foundation of stone, which lifts it over the churchyard and the plaza beyond. Eleven stained-glass windows decorate the church’s narthex and sanctuary, each abstractly depicting one of the Acts of Iomedae. Currently a few of them are backlit with flickering light from within. Whitewashed wooden stairs climb to a small porch and the church’s only entrance. Two balconies extend from the church’s face, with narrow glass doors leading from each into the sanctuary.

As the others choose to rest their weary, beaten bodies rather than press forward and enforce the law, Sister Ismene blows raspberries at them. "You bunch o' wimps! If they've got some kinda armed regiment waiting in there to brutalize us, you'd think they woulda just brought 'em to the jail instead of sneakin' around in the middle of the night."

As people make their way back to the jail, you quickly discover that there haven't been any further incursion attempts while everyone was out following Lacall's trail.

"Hey, Is, if you want to break into the church tonight I'll go with ya," Cimri offers. "I've been feeling like getting into some more mischief since that healing spell Penelope put on me." The last words are obscured by an involuntary yawn forcing its way out.

"Nah, it's fine Cim. I might as well try to go back to bed. Father's gonna be cranky in the morning, that's for sure." Ismene catches Cimri's yawn and stretches. "Y'know, I don't much feel like being there for that. I might just pull up a cot at the prison to catch my z's."


"Sure thing, there's got to be another cot around here somewhere." Cimri rummages for a few moments before finding one and setting it out for Ismene. Several hours later, the morning comes grey and overcast, but not dark enough to suggest any actual rain.

I know Muziel wants to take the Angel corpse to Ruckleer's house. What about everyone else? Going along with him or other plans?

A bath later, would be lovely she says more to herself, after cleaning off the majority of the crusty blood from last nights battle from her armor and clothes. Her blood mostly unfortunately, too many arrows in her flesh for her own liking. But once dressed again she says I've got nothing better to do, so I'm up to visit our dear necromancer again. Ismene, you haven't had the pleasure yet have you?

Sorry for the delay, been a rough couple of days with a leaking roof. It's been crazy stormy here in CA recently. If only it would actually help with the drought :\

Arriving at Ruckleer's house outside of town bearing the body of the Angel in a sack, (and Loran's body as well?) the retired mage quickly lets everyone in upon recognizing Muziel and Penelope.

"Good morning, please come in, come in," he says closing the front door behind you with an wave of one hand while holding a steaming mug in another. "I just finished brewing a pot of coffee if anyone would like some." He raises an intrigued eyebrow at the combination of Kolaiah and Penelope but doesn't say anything. "What can an old wizard do for you today?"

Declining to join the others in visiting the creepy necromancer, Sister Ismene goes about her morning calisthenics at the jail. Partway through her workout, her growling stomach rudely interrupts, demanding to be fed. "Hey Cim, I'm starving. Let's go grab some grub at the Arch and Lark." While she hated the Arch and Lark, it was the only place she could get some food without having to cook for herself. Besides, it would be fun to see the locals squirm in the presence of their new overlords.

At Ruckleer's:

Ruckleer looks at the angel's body with a great deal of interest. "I've heard of Chelish spies wearing angel skin armors to fool paladins, but it's not something I have any first-hand experience with." He thinks for a few moments. "I've never had much talent in the way of crafting, besides inscribing the occasional scroll, but perhaps I might still be able to help you. The unrest in this town has become quite palpable, and I feel those with the talent to actually make armor from this creature might balk at the idea. But," and he chuckles a little as he thinks of it, "I could, perhaps, sculpt the corpse to look like something else entirely. I heard Louslik's tannery got knocked over a few days ago, but he might be able to handle the job if he's replaced his tools already."

At the jail:

Cimri nods agreement, stretching out a bit and cracking her back. "I could definitely go for some grub as well."

Walking just down the street to the pub, you can hear the sounds of Nikolai's particular taste in music coming from the inside. Once through the door, the place is pretty crowded. It seems that the town at large has gotten the notion that the place is exempt from the decree about gathering in large groups. But upon seeing two of the Archbaron's agents enter the premises, several heads turn to look in your direction with worried expressions and many group whisper worriedly among themselves, their conversations inaudible in the face of the performance from the stage.

All of the tables are currently occupied and, with the exceptions of Nikolai and Madam Cembers who are each too engrossed in their respective businesses to notice, the atmosphere in the Arch and Lark has immediately transformed from casual to incredibly tense.

"Er, so you should probably know that the unrest in this town's about to get a lot worse." Muziel then unfurls the other bag to reveal the body of Loran Allomar. "We caught him snooping around the jail last night trying to get the rebellious serving wench free. The stupid angel here didn't want to bargain for his life - got all uppity when we used some infernal magics to try and heal him. Not sure if we should give it back or just dispose of it."

Muziel makes one last reveal, pulling a vial of fluid out of his pouch. "Finally, we found this red potion on Loran's body. Any idea what it is?"

I guess if Nikolai did anything about it, he'd have no audience XD Of course, this will be a great opportunity to shake down the restaurateur for her flagrant violation of the law.

Sister Ismene can't help but grin at the sudden change in atmosphere. The way everybody turned to look at them, the way the stiffened in their chairs. The Devil Nun had been looked at a lot of ways before. She'd been looked at with anger, with sadness, with hate, and (maybe once) with love. But nobody had ever looked at her with fear in their eyes. It had been easy to criticize the Archbaron's plans in his cushy office, but this... this was what power felt like. And it felt good.

Elbowing Cimri, she leans in to whisper something, and in a voice loud enough to be heard by the room at large, says, "Gee, look at all these lawbreakers in here, Sheriff! It's too bad we're only here on lunch break, otherwise we might have found the jail awfully crowded, don't you think?"


At Ruckleer's:

"Is that?" Ruckleer starts to ask, quite surprised. "My word. I'm quite glad I don't live inside the walls. I have to imaging the townsfolk will riot when this news gets out. Whether that could be ameliorated or intensified by returning the body I couldn't say. It's hard to gauge what effect it might have on his mother's morale. If you decide to dispose of it, there are a number of options that can help keep it secret from lay-people, from sculpting the corpse to skeletonizing it. Neither one will block divinations, though." He takes a deep breath and takes a moment to concentrate on the potion.

Identify: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (5) + 22 = 27

"That's a much easier question to answer," he nods at it. "It's a moderate healing potion. Didn't do him much good, though, it seems." He chuckles for a moment.

At the Arch and Lark:

Cimri gives an almost imperceptible nod at the whispered suggestion and picks up the prompt like a pro improv player.

"I dunno," she adds, crossing her arms as she surveys the room. "How can we take a lunch break with no place to sit?"

Cimri Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

A moment passes as the words sink into the crowd. As if on cue, three of the tables hastily clear out at the same time, citizens pushing through each other in a race to get out the doors first and, in some cases, leaving behind partially eaten meals. The people at the remaining tables watch warily, hoping that this might be appeasement enough.

On the way back, he mentions to Penelope and Koliah. "I think we should just give the body back, or if we want to get the townsfolk really riled up we can put the body onto a stake as a warning!"

Penelope perked up at the suggestion, Oh, you are a wicked little man aren't you. You don't think that will rile them up too much. There are only five of us, vs an entire town.

We can't tolerate stealing, can we, Cim? Hey," she she calls out to the rest of the restaurant. "Did anybody see those people pay?"

Is that what that one's name was? You are much better at details, Master Greed. Penelope smiles at him, before stretching and picking up the body again. I guess if we're going to confront them, we should go get the others. Or do you want to do a quick drop and scamper?

At the Arch and Lark:

Worried and blank stares follow Ismene's demand for a moment before one person, a not-quite-elderly-yet woman with graying hair speaks up.

"I don't think anybody was paying attention to what the people at the other tables were doing," she offers, timidly. "I know I wasn't, I was listening to the music." This statement is followed by murmurs of assent and scattered nodding of heads from around the common room.

Cimri, meanwhile, has found a still-partially full mug of wine at the closest table and finishes it enthusiastically.

"I think maybe we let 'em off with a warning," she suggests. "Provided, of course, that this place is compliant by the time we've finished lunch. That should give the rest of 'em time to make sure they've paid for their stuff before scampering off." She turns back to face Sister Ismene.

Do you really want to go chasing off after those guys right now? she mouths, trusting the angle to make sure that nobody else can see the question.

At Ruckleer's before the exodus:

"Very well," says the retired mage, nodding and smiling. "I'll prepare the appropriate spell tomorrow morning and sculpt this little fellow into a calf first thing. It should be ready to be picked up any time at your convenience. Good luck with, er, the other one."

At the Church Square:

Unlike last night when chasing Lacall, the Church Square plaza is busy with people in the middle of the day. There are at least a dozen or so people coming and going in the square itself, while the Church of Iomedae seems to be much more active than usual for this time of day. If you wish to try to drop off the body surreptitiously, make a Sleight of Hand check.

Reading her friend's lips, Ismene waves a flat hand over the table, like a card player passing a turn. She didn't much feel like chasing people down before she got a bite to eat, and besides, Fex had told them to be arbitrary and inconsistent with their enforcement of the laws. "What a kind and gracious sheriff, letting those law-breakers off with just a warning," she says, still using her overly loud voice. "Such kindness ought to put everyone in a very generous mood when they tip our handsome entertainer for his hard work." Winking at Gluttony, she grabs a nearby cup herself and tosses it back. "All this kindness sure works up an appetite. Hey, waiter!"

At the church square.

"It sure got crowded here. I'm guessing the townsfolk are feeling agitated. I bet they're planning something." Muziel tries to catch the conversations being had by these townsfolk, and perhaps to gauge the reasons for this gathering. Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26.

He considers how best to execute their plan, and makes a proposal to Penelope. "How's this -- I'll try to create a distraction. You can go drop off the body like you said. If the townsfolk see us at work, we tell them that Lacall here was guilty of trying to break people out of the jail. Deal?"

If Penelope is on board, he then gets to work on the distraction. He begins to gather electric power around him, creating an extremely loud, visible display in a 20-foot radius centered on Muziel, as the energy swirls around him. Sleight of Hand (aid another): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13

@Penelope and Koliah - You don't have to get on board - we could also just announce our presence and leave the body. It's just that creating a distraction sounds a lot more fun to Muziel.

Works for me. If they get uppity, we shove their "justice" in their faces

But Penelope doesn't have sleight of hand, so right now rolling straight dex, mod however you wish.

Penelope's drop and go ends up pushing through several people, knocking over a cart, and has a lot of loud swear words. Til she finally drops the body on the front steps, probably to the staring silence of the entire square.
