I hope everyone is enjoying the Holiday time of year, and maybe getting a few days off. I have been busy, weird since I am an empty-nester, seems I am more busy during this time of year than when all my children were home.
I ended one of my games in the past week, which was the first time I actually ended a game here (instead of the game ending because of lack of interest). That game started in June of 2014.
I am playing a marathon session of Time stories today, I got the three expansions for the basic game for Christmas, yay!
I hope to be updating all my games tomorrow.

At the top of this thread, and the game thread, next to the words "Skarda's Mirror" is a link that says "the tower"
this is a simplified map of the tower. And I don't know why it keeps turning up at a ninety degree rotation every time I post it, but I'll try to fix that tonight. The entry doors should be on the bottom of the map, but instead are on the left. You have just been in room #2 and are headed into room #3
Imrael |
*chuckle* I'm quite entertained by it, actually. Before, Bud and Imrael had a time crunch and enemies pressing in on them, so we didn't get to explore any inter-character conflict.
Now with so obvious a foil in the mix, we can let fly!
(Also, in a party of three we have two Divines, so any trouble I get in to Ruul can get me out of. ;)

I really appreciate what you were trying to do here Terquem but I don't think this game is going anywhere anytime soon. I think for your peace of mind and to give everyone some closure we should call this game done and retire it.
My final request is that you mark this game as inactive so it doesn't persist on folks' campaigns tab forever. That said, I look forward to gaming with all of you again in the future.

I thought the interaction between the characters of Bud and Imreal, and the Mirror, were excellent. I'm still not sure why Ruul chose to ignore all that was going on, never once asking either of the other characters what was going on, or showing any interest in the situation at all, but oh well.
So with two active player characters I'm not sure what to do here. It could be an interesting adventure, but with the unique nature of the party, and the particular history I'm not sure that a recruitment would be successful.
Imreal and Bud, please let me know your opinions on where to go from here. Shutting down the game might be an option, but if the two of you can think of a way to keep it going I'd like to hear it.
Imrael |
1) I'm deeply invested in this character. It's a concept that I've wanted to try for some time, and it's going better than could be hoped.
2) I -like- the friction between Bud and Imrael, and the evil nature of the mirror is giving it a good angle.
3) I've always thought that recruitment thread are for suckers. I could recommend half a dozen people, maybe more, to invite to this. Not many DM's are willing to take a change on building your own race, so it should go well.
4) That having been said...Terquenm you -do- have a very, very slow posting rate. I can't really tell if that's because of us, and that's the player's mind frame, or if that's just how you roll. It would do a lot if you just came out and said that you are slow poster, or if you would like to go faster but want more involved players, or...?
That said, I am in a game that, from the opening, admitted that it would be a slower pace. (Well, two, really.) They are slow, but since everyone expects it, it's a bit easier to digest multiple-day lulls.
Would you like me to invite some of those poeple? (I'm thinking firstly of The Indescribable here. Do you know him? You two seem a lot alike.)
Terquem |
Yes please, invite anyone you think might enjoy this game and its unique qualities
I am a slow poster
Haven't I said that already? But all kidding aside.
I am a slow poster
But I'm not going to leave this place (unless I get kicked out) and I'm not going to shut down a game (unless all the players want it to end).
I'll try to do better

What I will struggle to make happen, is introduce new characters who would have to be not of evil alignment (as survivors of the first party to enter the tower, looking for clues as to what happened).
It could work, because the adventure is about something more important than the struggle between good and evil (the mirror, its role in this world, and its importance to the world of It'Dupree) but it would be tricky
Bud Wiser |
You don't have to make them non evil. They could be survivors of the first party or creatures trapped some way and we set them free. I know of a spell that puts you into a mirror though they could be trapped in other ways. My 2 cents.
Bud Wiser |
I would think that being part of the SS would mean they are the "normal" races though.
I was thinking these people were looking for a particular mirror and so collected a number of magical mirrors looking for The One. So there's a few extra around that do different things, some just happen to have monsters in them. Or they could be trapped in gems, or lamps or whatever. Just throwing out a way for strange creatures like us could join the asylum.

No. that wouldn't go over very well, but let me fill you in
The Strangler of the Shadow Moor and
Castle Caldwell and Beyond
are both connected to the It's "A" Dungeon origin (and so was Right Words, but that one ended)
Technically, Castle Caldwell is set at the same time and in the same world as the Woodbridge campaign (and this tower adventure that you are in in this game is set in the same world and at the same time as well, in fact this setting is just a mere hundred miles or so from the location of the Castle Caldwell game).
The 5e Palace of the Vampire Queen game is also set in the Alodoan campaign setting of Woodbridge, but is far enough away to be not connected in anyway to what is going on in any of the other games.
Terquem |
If it is possible, if the other players are willing, I am going to try to move these two characters into the Its "A" Dungeon game, and merge what they are doing, lost on another world, with this campaign.
If this is successful I will close both games, and open a new game with a title more appropriate to the adventure.

Hia there Bud! an old gorilla friend waves to you.
I see you doin a'merging an I is wishing ya luck with it!
It was fun playing with you back then and I hope you have fun :)
Pssst. Dont eat too many of them, an save a few for me!
Imrael |
sry. been sick.
Anyway, ya, Pathfinder is just...falling out of favor. 5E is a power rising, and I think several people are just generally keeping their powder dry for Starfinder.
If you were dead-set on keeping this game going, there are other trees I could bark up. Eventually we'd get people, but the particular results and timeline would be ephemeral.
That said, Imrael is kinda neutral; he doesn't care who he's fighting, as long as he's fighting something. =)
Also, this is meta, but, since we've acknowledged a slow posting rate, the theory could be formed that fewer games are better than more, since fewer games means more time and effort concentrated into a smaller area. This may have a multiplicative effect, since a slow GM posting rate often saps the energy and leads to slower player rate in a downward spiral, but a faster GM posting rate encourages more players posting, and then the energy feeds on itself.
As far as Bud in a good guy group, every group needs it's Giligan )or Starscream, as it were. =) Bud doesn't seem like a very evil sort, more like a cranky uncle who needs a bottle in his hand or he gets even more cranky. He's not really a spawn of Sauron and Venger. Just IMHO. =)

There will be a way for the other party to return to Du'Orbna once they reach the sub basement of the castle they are exploring. Once they have returned I hope to offer them a mission to travel to the same world where your two characters are now, in the hopes of helping you achieve your mission. It'Dupree is not opposed to hiring competent adventurers, no matter where their moral compass may point, if it will help to end her self imposed imprisonment.
Assuming the party agrees to take the job (there will be some payment offered that I hope they are happy with) they will arrive in the village with instructions to head directly for the tower, where they will hopefully meet you for fun and games
