I was running 8.1 on that machine, I sort of got used to it, no serious complaints, I suppose

But now the machine is running at least four or five times slower, java doesn't run on their new browser, and everything I try to run opens in a stall, then has to be closed and reopened to get it to work

I probably need to figure out what settings need to be fixed. which is killing me on time

Also, when it first booted up, the screen resolution was way off of what my monitor is capable of, and it took a while to get that figure out.

Then Cortana starts asking me set up questions, and I just want to tell you

I hate these "what can I do for you?" machines, that don't understand the reply
"go away"

So, I’m just going to put this out there.

Your group has exited the Dungeon, you have some treasure, and are probably thinking of creating, buying, or otherwise acquiring some trinkets,

But if you’ve had enough of this game this would be a good place to close the curtain (I might even be talked into trying to create a regular adventure for this group of characters so as to not tax anyone with these tables any more, if that was something all of you were interested in)

Or we can take a little while to sort out the crafting of a few items, buying and selling of gear, and head back into the Dungeon.

I am still working on a revision of the document, and it will be Revision 7, and I hope it will be done soon. It only changes how Special Contents of Rooms and Chambers are handled, plus cleans up a few mistakes I’ve found along the way.

I'm having a blast, but that's credited to the people more than the random dungeon not to say the traps, and encounters haven't been interesting or entertaining.

I'd be happy either way. Are you still enjoying the random room generation of the dungeon and running of the monsters Terq? You are running the show, so ultimately I feel it's your call.

I'm looking to craft a Robe of Arcane Heritage to buff my pet and sure up our front line. I also suppose I'd be creating a invisibilty button for Niversal. So that's like 12 days I think. I haven't actually read up on crafting in ages but it's like a day for every 1000 in the base.

Sorry I am not posting much atm but I am super busy with loads of work and life in general. Keryth is mostly leveled. Just need to pick my new spells and figure out what to spend my coin on.

Will post when I can, but please don't hold the game up on my account.

And for what is worth, I believe there are a few errors in the item creation calculations that have been posted. Don't have time to go into detail but, for example, the base price on a Robe of Arcane Heritage is 16,000 not 8,000. That means longer to craft than has been assumed. The DC posted seems too low and I'm not sure that Boon Companion and the robe stack.

You are right, the robe actually takes 8 days, I halved it twice on accident, however I don't see any bonus type listed on the robe so why wouldn't it stack with the feat?

I read up on the robe some more and found this link where everyone debates it.
Scavion lays it out simple enough for me to understand in his final post. The only argument against is some people feel it wasn't ever meant to be used like that.

The DCs should be lower than what I posted if anything. The calculation is DC=5+CL+5*(each requirement not met)

The crafting requirements are; CL9, Craft Wondrous Item, speak with dead, creator must be a sorcerer- DC=5+9+5(missing speak with dead)=19.

As it is written in the rules yes it appears to be legal, however, I do believe it is an exploit. Boon Companion does not stack with itself. It seems pretty clear that the intent was to not allow for animal companions at higher than character level power. If druids cannot have an animal companion at character level +4, no one should imo.

Ultimately it is up to Terq in this game.

You are missing the +5 for faster crafting. You still succeed, thanks to the scroll, as that puts the DC at 24.

I may have missed it but did you roll for the haversack? DC is 19 if you take 2 days and 24 if crafted in 1.

Characters crafting magic items is a tricky thing to GM. It can easily lead to wildly inflated WBL and/or huge discrepancies between party member's wealth. This is my experience anyhow.

If there were a druid or a front line fighter type I wouldn't have even considered spending that much money on beefing the cat. I'd only argue that the fighter isn't considered great at what s/he is supposed to do and the ranger, cleric, and wizard all do trap finding better than a rogue but no ones batting an eye at that stuff. The druid is no different; s/he isn't the strongest companion class compared to the oracle, summoner, or sorcerer that spends the feats and resources to do so.

If you really feel its exploitation then maybe I should just do something else.

Keryth Tarathiel wrote:

You didn't miss any roll. Zae didn't make a haversack. She will eventually though.

Keryth Tarathiel wrote:

WBL is a guideline though. I think trying to stick too closely to it hinders a lot of game potential, like ensuring unique items are never awarded or artifacts for that matter. I did offer to craft things for the entire party, so the disparity between party members you mentioned wont apply here.

I wouldn't worry about WBL until the party creams an encounter too easily. Too much worry over a game is the reason too many people don't want to GM games.

male

Did I miss something, or did Zaehyra already have a Haversack in her inventory and simply gave it over to Ballar?

Yeah, I was reading the crafting rules last night, it almost seems likje a game unto itself

Here's my thoughts

Crafting magic items creates a setting I don't like. This is just personal preference, but in my established campaign settings I would never use them. There are too many ways for the rules to be exploited and jack up character power which isn't a bad thing in itself, but that just turns the table on the GM so that he now has to moderate a game based on what the characters can create for themselves rather than what the challenges the world has to offer. Another thing is the vague idea of what a "Caste Level" is supposed to be, which I always thought was a prerequisite required to be able to craft the item, so an item that had a CL of 9, required a 9th level character to make, but there are so many "go around: rules for that rule that it ends up just being a number on the roll, and if everything comes down to a "roll a number and then determine how long it takes to make based on that number" then low level characters have the potential to make very powerful items and the only way a GM can control that is with gimmicks such as "oh, well the materials you need are not available" or keeping the treasure small so player characters never have enough cash to do what they want to do.

And finally I think it creates an adversarial atmosphere between the players and the GM when you create a whole set of rules that are there to allow the players to do exactly what they want to do, regardless of game balance, and then put the pressure on the GM to try and keep them from doing just that.

Having tried my hand at crafting stuff in other games, I've found that there is always something irregular / costing factors not accounted for about doing it. Unlike scrolls and potions, which are far more straight forward, even listed items are tricky...somehow :/ Alas, creating those other items remains outside of my area of expertise so I'm going to leave it to the professionals.

Yes, Zae gave Baller her Haversack to save on time. I was planning on creating another one next rest.

I didn't intend to bring this level of critical thinking or concern over the rules. I was just using a feat to make some stuff to help the party kick dungeon butt and get rich. I'm not sure how to proceed now that the items I might craft, the bloodline power, and the crafting feat itself are considered exploits or creating an adversarial atmosphere.

Firstly, I have talked to Ballar, and he and his family are doing as well as can be expected under the circumstances. He suspects he will return to action on Friday or shortly thereafter.

Secondly, Zae, please do not take my comments as accusations. They are absolutely not intended to be. I do not think that you are intentionally exploiting the rules. Or purposely subverting WBL. My comments are more to the difficulty of balancing the rules and the game play. The GM's job is a difficult one (one I myself am familiar with) and the intent of my comments are to alleviate potential issues. I do not wish to make it harder for him, even if done so unintentionally.

To that end, my comments regarding the robe are more to "sloppy" game design than anything else. I think that the intention of the rules should be considered and it is my opinion (and only that) that the robes should not buff animal companions above character level, regardless of the what the robe rules say. :)

I suspected that you had just given Ballar a haversack of your own but wasn't sure.

As for WBL, although it is only a guideline, my experience is that it is more important than most people realize. Early access to powerful items and/or vast quantities of wealth can be difficult to adjust for as the GM. That is primarily my concern. The secondary concern does relate to wealth discrepancies between party members. Both for the reason above (balancing encounters is significantly more difficult if some party members are way above WBL compared to others) and because it has the potential to cause inter-character/player stress when a few of the characters significantly or routinely outshine their companions due to wealth gained bonuses/abilities/whatnot. Everyone wants a chance to contribute, and that can be disrupted by the haves and have nots.

Of course, Terq has already expressed many of the same concerns above, so I suspect he will inform of us of anything we need to change.

As for me, you can make me a player, but it is hard to hang up the GM cap while doing so. I am sorry if this detrimentally affects the game. Please feel free to tell me to pipe down. :)

In other news, Keryth is still mostly done. Still trying to figure out what to spend my 5000ish gold on (suggestions? I am thinking a whack load of scrolls if nothing else interests me) and re-picking my spells to alleviate the significant overlap/redundancy between Zae and Keryth. Subbing in bungle for charm person and lock gaze for enlarge person at 1st level, subbing in steal breath for create pit and adding hideous laughter at 2nd and learning call of the void and spiked pit (memorized) for new (3rd level) spells.

I will be ready to go for Friday for Ballar's (hopeful) return.

Cheers

male

Thanks for all the wonderful input, everyone.

As to adjustments, I really don't feel I need to call back anything that was decided by any of the players. You are all managing the game well, and as long as you don't lose sight of the "big picture" (here the "big picture" is that the challenges are randomly determined and taken right out of the rules with little if any modification on my part).

Everything you have all done so far is acceptable, and I too will be ready to go by Friday myself (been hit with some minor family issues lately, but all is well, basically car trouble seems to gang up on me and my adult children and when that happens we are all calling each other asking to borrow a car, until we figure out who has a working car, haha)

Here's a silly question.

What do you all think of there being a condition where if enough time has passed without being in the Dungeon, that through powerful magic, the whole thing resets, and you have to start creating the dungeon new from the starting point? This might seem difficult at first, but at the same time it means you don't have to try to decide where you want to go back to when you last left off, which in this case was a brand new chamber discovered at the bottom of stairs from level 5 to level 8

male

I'll wait till the weekend, and then we will tabulate the total amount of time spent in the city, and make a plan to get back to the Dungeon Delving.

Thanks for your thoughts and patience. With the funeral over I'm going to try to get back to posting today.
I'm good with any ideas you may want to try Terq, although I think a changing dungeon should stick to a fixed schedule irregardless of who is still in there. My impression is that the Baroness' dungeon is somewhat of a tourist attraction for the city of Du’Orbna (popular enough to need a permit in order to explore) and as such we are not the only group seeking riches down there. So if the dungeon changes, it will change when some groups (and possibly us) are still down there making returning to the surface more challenging. Course, we could introduce some sort of way point/intercom system (or minion escort?), allowing teleportation back to the surface provided the group has the right key and can find a way point.
Do you have a timeline for changes to take place in mind?
