Jak Kato |
Jak nods respectively to Huuna.
"Well, this was much more excitement than I was expecting when I woke up today."
Jak turned to the Calamari behind him and did a double take.
"Renlo? That you? I'm Jak. We worked on a couple of jobs when you were, uh, free lancing. I'm looking for work, and hoped you might be able to put in a good word."

Renlo Tacksa |
Went over to Gotal and Donavaan's conversation, not yours. Sorry.
Gotal of Umbara |
Gotal smiles at Renlo, "Agreed. It seems this new Empire does not hesitate in flexing its might. A bit strange though that a war crime charge was committed after the hostilities ceased, no? If this Senator was assassinated a few days ago and the war ended a week ago, how could the murder be considered a war crime. Do you happen to know anything about this friend? "
Renlo Tacksa |
"A lot of people were looking for the Clone Wars to end. It could be that they thought if they said "war crimes" people would help them get the man into custody, or at least avoid helping him. I don't know. I'm no legal expert. Just a pilot and navigator."

Huuan pushes her empty glass across the bar and turns to leave. As she starts to turn shock crosses her face. "Um...Hi."
She turns back to the bar.
"He will probably not make it to where ever the Empire says they are taking him. I've heard a couple of rumors that similar stories are playing out in other places. People that didn't vote for the Empire are being removed."
Huuna nods to Benry for another drink.
"I've known him for a couple of years. He's a good guy. He's got a family on Onderon. I'll say it again, the winds of change are blowing.
She turns to go.
"Please excuse me. I've got to go make sure Captain Byrn made it and it ready for the transfer in the morning."
She makes her way to the door as a Deveronian bursts through. One of his horns has been broken and he is bleeding from a cut above his left eye.
"Huuna! We got whacked. Several people came out of an alley and knocked us about."
He reaches up and touches his broken horn.
"They took the prisoner. As they were leaving I heard them say 'It's in bay 4F.'"
Moroka, that happens to be the dock where you worked on Byrn's ship
Donavaan Taar |
This is what he will report to the group, slurring his words a bit It is clearly atypical. "War Crimes" is usually reserved for people convicted of atrocities that go beyond what is considered expected actions during war. Assassination of a Senator after the conclusion of the war does not seem to fit. Murder maybe, War Crimes - no.
GM Han Shot First |
Huuna pauses and seems to be lost in thought for a several heartbeats.
"This is going to get ugly. Master Tzed will not be happy; bad for business and all."
She touches her chin, glances around the bar and gestures as if to motion "Aha."
"I have a job that needs doing. I need someone to direct the Empire's eyes elsewhere."
She scans the room again.
"We don't want any outside help running Burgger. We need to figure this out.
She holds up her hand and ticks off her fingers.
"In my estimation we can find Byrn and turn him over, highlight another situation that causes the troopers to lose interest in the captain, or find the real assassin."
She works the crowd further.
"Are any of you fine people up for keeping Beggar's Moon clear of unwanted scrutiny?"
Corven Sworn |
Having stayed mostly silent so far, Corven finishes his cup of coffee. "Well," he says with a shrug, "you did just mention a job." He then turns his eyes towards the entrance to the cantina before turning to look at Huuna again. "And as it happens I seem to be an employer short."
Moroka Janis |
Moroka sighs, exasperation and amusement mixed in. "Well, I can't say I'm as surprised as I ought to be."
She taps her chin in thought for a moment before raising a finger. "Frankly, I'm not in favor of the first two options. Someone is targeting the captain unjustly, and turning him in would just be surrendering to that. Turning the trooper's interest away would likely take some very loud collateral damage. I believe we have an assassin to hunt."
"By the way," she puts up her hands in an informative gesture, "The captain's ship is, in fact, at bay 4F. I'd very much like to keep a paying customer's property intact; would anyone care to help ensure his ship is untampered with?"
Oriltoth |
Oriltoth 'tsks' as the injured man runs in, and grabs his medical gear from beside his chair. As he examines the Deveronian he says, "Bad business this. Catching the actual assassin sounds like the best idea to me as well. If I could examine the body we may be able to tell what kind of weapon killed the senator at least. Do you know where it is being stored?"

As his new drinking buddies get up, Renlo checks his funds. Well, you need money to eat, and it's likely a paying job.
Standing, Renlo says, "I'll help out. Find the assassin, turn the guy over to the clones, makes no difference to me, although I'd prefer to avoid creating a catastrophe that results in too much collateral damage."
It would be best to keep innocents from getting involved in this.
Moroka Janis |
Moroka claps her hands together with a nod. "Excellent. Let's make a short trip to the docking bays and inform my employer of the situation so he's on guard as well. If the body's not being hidden away by unscrupulous authority figures, we should have a chance to examine it, and from there we can plan our strategy."
She stands by the door, awaiting agreement. "Shall we?"
Renlo Tacksa |
Renlo got up with the others and, seeing Donavaan was a bit unsteady, moved over to help support him, saying, "If this turns into a firefight before you sober up, get behind some cover and stay there. It's safer for everyone."
Renlo Tacksa |
"Suuuurrreee it won't. Well, we'll just keep going along behind this nice young mechanic with our new friend, okay?"
As he helps Donavaan along, Renlo thinks, Well, at least he isn't as bad as Captain Velnar used to get. Weighs less too, come to think of it.

Those of you that are headed to 4F, roll perception checks; Donavaan you are at a -5 perception due to inebriation.
The trip to docking bay 4F is quick and uneventful – at least no one is shooting at you.
You've taken a shortcut through an alley and as you exit to the main thoroughfare you see a small office building that houses Jaska's Garage & Mynock Removal Service. Just to the right the blast doors to section 4 docking ring stand ajar with blaster marks on the surrounding bulkhead. The sound of engines being warmed is evident.

Corven Sworn |
With his coffee finished and the opportunity to leave the cantina even for a little while appearing, Corven is quick to lend a hand to the young woman. After all, the alternative is to stay in Fischer's Place waiting for them to return; easily bored as he can be, there really is no contest as to what he would choose.
"Oh, wonderful," he quips perhaps a little too drily as he also begins running, following Moroka into the docking bay. "So much excitement all of a sudden. A possible murder and war crime to boot, an arrest, almost a fight and now ship theft?"
"Renlo," he calls to the Mon Calamari, looking back for a moment, "the... proud veteran? Let us not have him get shot or something. Ship thieves, I think, tend to be unpleasant and unreasonable fellows."

Pausing outside the doorway, he leans Donavaan against the wall outside and says, "You should keep watch out here and cover our backs. This is a very important assignment. Are you up to it?"
Finishing, he draws his blaster and prepares to enter the docking bay.
Jak Kato |
A big part of Jak wanted to stay out of this whole situation. But he was a on his feet and following the others before he could even protest.
On the way over, Jak glumly mentions to everyone, "You know it's going to be the Empire behind the assassination, right? This is going to end nasty."
But despite his sour attitude he keeps up.

When Renlo asks Donavan to stand back, Jak pipes up.
"I'll keep an eye on him. Do what you gotta do."

Tactics Roll
GM Han Shot First |
Moroka and Gotal slip through the blasted door into hanger 4F.
Moroka & Gotal please make perception rolls
Immediately as you step through the door, you see three prone clone troopers sprawled near the door. To your left the Beesalisk, Jaska is sprawled against a fallen stack of boxes. Two CIS soldiers are sprawled on the floor at the base of the ramp leading into the freighter warming it's engines.
All players in the area, please roll initiative
Corven Sworn |
Corven and I believe Renlo as well followed Moroka into the docking hangar too. Unless Moroka and Gotal are too far ahead and we have not caught up with them yet?
Renlo Tacksa |
I was taking up a position outside the hangar while Moroka and Gotal went in, then if it turns deadly I'm going to go in to join them.
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Renlo tensed as Moroka and Gotal walked in. I really hope everything's okay in there.
Corven Sworn |
Gotcha. Just Corven then. :-)
Initiative: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
I am also including a Perception check in case it is needed as my intention as mentioned in my previous post was to follow Moroka into the hangar. If not needed, please disregard.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Jak Kato |
"There's a stack of barrels over yonder. I'm gonna set up shop over there. Get you some cover fire. Hopefully we won't need it."

Gotal of Umbara |
I realize I read the DM's spoiler incorrectly ah well. On Gotal's action, if he sees no threat within the hangar he will rush into the ship and seek out the cockpit, withdrawing but not activating his lightsaber holding it in his sleeve to keep it as out of sight as possible.

Cautiously, Renlo advanced into the hangar as Moroka cried out. It was clear that something had happened, looking at the Besalisk she was kneeling next to. Gotal had seemingly vanished, so he moved next to Moroka and said, "We should move him out of here and get him some help. I'll help you move him." He then moved to a position to help carry him.
