Okay.
Tyrus is not keen to give up the spell - but I think this is back to what we want.
At the moment 1 gold sovereign is all we need.

Are we all good on the "Goal: Get Power" as an interim goal?

Works for me. ^^

(Though I should note that Luca's LN - she's not the sort who seeks power "at any cost". It's more to improve herself, and she does have limits, should that ever be relevant.)

@Mercy: Sorry - having no idea myself what the spell might be worth, was trying to have Tyrus work out if
(A) the 1g offer was good
(B) whether exclusivity was really worth 4g more.

Basically, while he really wants to keep the spell (so he can reverse engineer the divine-arcane magic), if that's a LOT more money, then maybe he should be thinking about it.

Outsider

I thought that might be what you were going for, but wanted to make sure.

The divine-arcane bit was in the binding ritual, not the spell. Unless we are talking about a different spell than I thought: I was under the impression that you were selling the 3rd Level Resonant Fracture spell. If that's incorrect let me know.

Oh - I knew the ritual was the big bit of it, figured it might be a bit in the spells. When Naswel noted the 'style' I figured that was what it was.

Roger, sorry for the confusion. That was more just to note that the spell was created by a savant.

My bad - I read too much into it.

Okay - so my vote
1. is Riches of the Land
2. Errant Apprentice
3. The Marsh Cave
1 & 2 are pretty close. A lot of that is going to come down to Luca's expression when she hears about the apprentice.

Luca, Dante: what are your thoughts?

The reverse actually. Slay bandits, visit the jungle, and possibly traipse around a forest on a wild goose chase after the treasure of a retired thief. Seems like a dick move even if he is a bad guy. What are the relative locations here?

Outsider

Map of Ottrunval

If you take a look at the close-in map, Rivettia is in the bottom right corner of the continent. You are in Gemny, the southern-most city on the coast but outside the jungle (south-east corner).

With that bearing in mind, "Riches of the Land" would be almost straight north, maybe five days' travel. Errant apprentice is north and west, on the jungle border. Due to rough terrain and few roads, it could take as much as two weeks to get there. The Marsh Cave is the closest, lying on the coast about a day's boat travel away from the city, but more like three days by land.

Female Human Summ (MS/VC) 5 | HP: 29/29 | AC: 12 (16), T: 12, FF: 10 | Fort: +1, Ref: +3 Will: +5 | CMB: +1, CMD: 13 | Init: +8, Perception: +3 (Fluffy: +5/Scent) |

In that case, I suppose my vote would be for Errant Apprentice. If there's disagreements on a first choice but agreement on a second option, I think going for the second pick would work out best. ^^

Outsider

Also, as I forgot to make it more clear in the story, the "Riches of the Land" quest is about a thief who lived a long time ago. He'd be dead by now - if he really existed in the first place.

That's a great map for now. I had a look at the wiki, but I started to get lost. Do you think you could put a link to that map in the campaign summary?

What is the city south and west, through the jungle, please?

Sounds like Errant Apprentice is the way to go.

When you say 'few roads', does that mean the extra time is because we have to go out of our way a lot, or does it mean overland trekking.
If it is possible to get a cart, Tyrus will want to get a cart (is it possible to some study/crafting/sleeping on a cart?)
Failing that he'd like a horse.
Roughly how much does purchase/hire of such things cost? The Mount Spell is always an option, of course.
Also, taking the guy with 20' movement and increasing his speed is probably not a bad idea for how long it takes to get there! You young whipersnappers move so fast...

Tyrus Know(Geo): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Tyrus Know(Hist): 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28

Turns out you know plenty about that city.

Tyrus (that city):

The city in the jungle is called Keldradt, and is itself a sovereign city which no nation claims. It is the last deep water port for ships traveling west until they arrive to the nation of Orlen. Its population and overall wealth is modest despite that, for several reasons: there is not, in point of fact, a lot of traffic that travels the south coast of Ottrunval; the jungles that form most of its borders are hostile, full of orcs and worse things; it is built upon the outskirts of an ancient elven city that was decimated in their old war with the dwarves. That city is very certainly haunted by all sorts of nasty things: undead, dormant magics, etc etc. For this reason above all others, the city is guarded and in part governed by an interesting religious sect: a joined cult of the dwarven Goddess Brigga, Patron of Commerce, and Felathren, a goddess beloved especially of the elves. Together these groups keep the city safe for travelers, traders, and adventurers (as well as all the boring regular folk who call the city home) and also wage war on the evils growing within the ruins, hoping to keep them in check.

It is a melting pot, home to sizable groups of all civilized races: Drecna, dwarves, elves, humans, halflings. It is a favorite staging point for adventurers and treasure seekers who often disappear into the jungle within sight of its walls - but infamously, few ever come back out.

Your rolls mean you know more than this by quite a bit, but there's the basics. If/when you want to know more ask and you shall recieve.

Definitely would be trekking overland a bunch to get there, and the speed limiter there isn't so much raw land movement rate as pathfinding and endurance. Mounts and carts can certainly be hired, though the real question is how each will handle the rough terrain... (if you bring up that quest further with Naswel, he will speak to you about a guide).

Sigh - I've always hated the mount spell. But it's core so I'm not going to try and take it away. :|

Luca: So... Summon Monster calls up allies for a few seconds - or a few minutes, in my case - and another spell, of the same rank, calls up a specific monster for a few hours? Outsider

Yes, I put it at the top of the post with the quests in it but didn't mark it very well. Essentially, Tyrus has the suspicion that Naswel is low-balling the offer a bit.

As to the Mount spell, I feel like it is just another way that lazy designers enable lazy GM's to make things too easy for the players, especially via magic (compare to the later introduced spells that instantly summon up ammo, etc etc). And while I know the designers understandably prioritized play potential over internal consistency, for somebody like me who craves the latter it doesn't fit in with the overall pattern of summoning spells being very temporary. I think at the very least it should be a higher-level spell. But these are all minor gripes with a spell that honestly isn't actually used very often. I'm just being curmudgeonly.

My instinct says that wouldn't work, but it does amuse me. XD ...Not that Luca really needs her summons to be any more powerful. Hey Mercy, I might have got confused. We were negotiation for the spell, right?
He then kept it at 5, and made us an offer for going on the mission?
I'm all good with it.
Frankly, if he's prepare to pay for supplies & guide, I think we've got a good deal.
Did people want to wait longer or go straight away? We might be able to get some money back from the inn if we go straight away, or we could stay here and try to craft some supplies/look around.

Yeah, I figured he'd talk it down to x%, or only for the 5gp. All good :)

I reckon we designate 2gp 'group funds', and use them to pay for all our communal expenses.
Then everyone can get 1 gp to spend on their own frivolities ;P

If people are okay with that I believe we'd looked at:
10 Healer's Kit
6 Calligraphy Kit
15 Inn rooms for a week
?? Nice clothing?
If we get nice clothing for everyone, I'd be happy to call that group expenses.
Also curious how much a boat trip to Keldradt would cost.

Outsider

Return to the inn, make plans for when to set out? Explore other things in town before leaving? Remember that for small tasks around the city you can just leave a laundry list of what you want to get done.

Nice as this town is, I think we're going to be keen on leaving pretty soon.
Let's get Dante to see if he can get some money back from the inn - or at least get it turned into supplies.
Thinking about it, we don't actually seem to be all that keen to spend money on ourselves.
What if we just left everything as 'kitty' for now, and broke it all up when we got 'split up' (hopefully never).
So: if there is anything people want to buy, yell it out now! Could be a while till we hit civilisation again.
Speaking of, Tyrus'd like to get alchemical supplies for acid flasks. If people want spells scrolled up and they're in his book (you're both arcane casters) then I'm happy to do so, but yell out now.
Depending on cost Tyrus would like to get a crossbow, and suggest Luca do the same. Bandits might think twice if they're both armed and they have such a nice LONG range.
Happy to run through this IC if people want, but I've noted post speed seems to be dropping off and that really scares me.

Alchemical cement is DC 15! How insulting! Tyrus & Torble have a +15 bonus!
using normal SRD
so 15x25 (avg roll) x2 (Torble) /2 (Portable lab) = 375sp/week = about 4.7sp of crafting an hour.
7.8 at accelerated, but then there's a 25% chance of ruining stuff.
On the other hand, with Crafter's Fortune...
25x30x2/2 = 18.75, with no real risk. Yesssss...
Tyrus'll get enough reagents for however many hours he thinks he'll be able to craft for each day (4?) times the number of days there and back (14?)

Also, given that that's 42 POUNDS of alchemical cement, that does sound like a wagon might be helpful. Also 35gp (srd) of reagents.

Yes but that only 2 hours of work gets done.. More if you have a ring of sustenance. I forgot that there is time in camp. But realistically I think we would spend all our time on the road, set up camp, go to sleep and that would be the whole day. Crafting along the way would slow us down and going it while on watch sounds dangerous. Sure the rules say you can do it but it sounds unfeasible to me. And why cement?

Sure - don't worry about the reagents.

Let's say that the actual form of alchemical cement, the "fine gray powder" in the description, is only a fraction of its weight. That's what I always went with, anyways.
