Wrigley follows behind Aeslin, his eyes constantly searching and fluttering from landmark to landmark. There are so many sights to take in, the thrill of bustling life all around, and new, strange aromas. With each shop the Wrigley is whisked into, and out of in a blur, the halfling finds another set of wrapped packages, dangling bags, and oddly sized baubles clutched in his grasp.

Surprisingly, there is no lowering his mood, even when desperately trying to balance the increasing load of packages, with so much to take in all around. "Perhaps, we could stop by some place to buy a magic trinket or two?"

"I don't know what to buy yet, but I wouldn't mind looking around," he says, his eyes barely peeking around the pile of goods held stacked in his arms.

He does so like a man who has accepted his fate as a whoreson. He states it confidently, if angrily, almost daring Gado laugh or mock him. Lucy has a way of quelling those kinds of jeers. "If you want to spend some gold, we could see if she has a younger friend for you to dally with."

Bazsil continues to walk. "So yes, I grew up on these streets mostly alone because my mother worked. Do not think that I resent that. I don't. She provided food enough for me...and rarely beat me. Which is more than I can say for my father. I cannot wait for the day when I see him again. Oh, that will be a good day," Baz's hands tighten on Lucy, leaving little doubt what he would do. He flicks his curls, showing some pride as an adult that he did not have while growing up.

While Gado gathers, Baszil works on his hammering forms in shady spot. As his hammer is both his protection, he works his forms carefully trying to keep his internal fires in check.

On Oiled Hair (Historical Crap):

From History of the HairsWorld: "Greeks used to perfume their heads with aromatic scents made from flowers, spices and olive oil. They believed that the scents had been delivered to the world by the gods, and they applied fragrances to their body and their hair. They used to boil a mix of flowers and herbs, like myrrh or frankincense, preparing a recipe with olive oil. To soften the hair, they applied brushing and massages. Also they made the hair brighter with the use of lotions, ointments and beeswax. Most of the population of the Ancient Greece had black hair, and for that reason they used yellow dyes, -which was, undoubtedly, their favorite color-, using a mix of saffron flowers and potassium water (a mix of potassium bicarbonate and carbonic acid water)."

As the two come up to a store with the sign Halswell's Haberdashery, Aeslin turns, pulling the taxed halfling in. "Surely a place such as this should have something for you!"

Immediately upon entering, the two are hit with the realization that the styles in this outfitter are not to their taste. Mannequins are abundant, displaying men's suits in the Chelaxian style. Nothing of the colorful Varisian silks and such that Aeslin was expecting are here.

"Why do the devil-worshippers insist on wrapping themselves up in such outlandishly silly get-ups. What is the point of this cravat? Or this jacket? They are not heavy enough to keep you warm, but are with this material it is inconceivable that they would keep you cool. And the colors... all black and red. No style at all... uptight things that they are. Nothing like the flowing silks of the Kelish deserts! No, my friend, we shall have to go somewhere else."

Aeslin continues wandering, unaware of the struggles that Wrigley is having with her items. Into another shop, where she quickly puts together a series of outfits for the bard. "You simply must look the part while performing," she says, as she pieces together a variety of pieces, all brightly colored, but in his size. "Yes, this will do fine! Oh, but this won't do if you are to be a diplomat. Then you'll need something more... somber... I should think this outfit over here would suit you just fine!"

She scurries over to see what appears to be a youth's suit, which while less colorful that the entertainer's outfit she picked out, is still more brightly colored than one would expect for an adult... save perhaps in her mind. Oh, and you do need something you can get dirty... we'll be in the trail, you know!"

She picks out an Entertainer's Outfit, a Courtier's outfit, and an Explorer's outfit for the halfling. Perhaps a hot weather outfit, too.

"Now pay the nice man for your things, and let's be going! You said you wanted to find some magical trinkets?"

Aeslin's shopping list:

If she can find them, she buys the following:
Scroll of Cure Light Wounds (25gp)
Scroll of Mount (25gp)
Scroll of Blindness/Deafness (150gp)
Scroll of Cure Moderate Wounds (150gp)
Scroll of Enthrall (150gp)
Scroll of False Life (150gp)
Scroll of Levitate (150gp)
Scroll of Perceive Cues (150gp)
total: 950gp
The plan is to feed all of these to Sebastian!

She also buys:
Ioun Torch (75gp)

And more scrolls:
Suggestion (375gp)
Clairaudience/Clairvoyance (375gp)
Guiding Star (375gp)
Locate Object (375gp)
Remove Curse (375gp)
Remove Disease (375gp)
(2250gp - She plans on feeding these to Sebastian, too, but not until she can cast them. Thus, she's saving them for later!)

She's got 1953 left

@Halswell's Haberdashery...

Before Wrigley is yanked out of yet another shop by the intriguing young woman, the halfling, laden with unwieldy packages, saunters over to the clerk behind the counter. The black and red colors of cheliax glare garishly upon the close clustered close by as the halfling begins to speak to the clerk.

"I've had a fabulous idea, one that is guaranteed to give you an uptick in business. Now... have you ever thought of changing the name of your store?"

"How does, Halswell that Ends Well, sound to you?" Wrigley laughs a bit to himself, then scoots out the door, already far behind Aeslin at this point. "Think about it!" his voice calls as he disappears from sight.

Elon, Gratum and Sumaru

All of a sudden, an ill-fated breeze blows the lid off the 'cobra' basket. The snake slithers out and towards Elon!

Elon sense motive: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Elon, instead of freaking out, smiles at the approaching snake - delighted to make another friend. Quickly, Platonius retrieves the flute and plays a calming melody and the snake pulls back.

??: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Elon perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Gratum perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Sumaru perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

"That man just stole your purse," Sumaru notes, pointing at a departing figure. The brown-haired man who is rapidly retreating into the crowd is brightly dressed in the greens and golds of Magnimar, not what you'd expect from a regular pickpocket.

None look so distressed about the departing purse as Platonius.

FYI, the sense motive was to figure out if the lifting of the lid was a trick or not. I was alternating between that and a will save, since it's a magical trick. I went with SM. Either way, a 1 wasn't going to cut it!

Bazsil and Gado

Bazsil perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Gado perception: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14

Gado, your perception and sense motive are missing from your profile (I can see why, slightly embarrassed?). ;-)

As they pass by *the* bridge, Bazsil notices two burly half-orcs making a half-hearted effort at hiding beneath it. The menacing-looking half-orcs appear to be staring intently at the pair on their shopping expedition.

Bazsil sense motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (13) + 8 = 21

The half-orcs do appear to be eyeballing Gado more intently than they are Bazsil himself. Neither look like they are about to attack, and observation seems their only goal for now.

Aeslin and Wrigley

As Aeslin and Wrigley leave the haberdasher, a big Shoanti man pushes pas them without so much as a 'pardon'.

Aeslin sense motive: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Wrigley sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Aesiln notes that he is in dire need of an outfit change, and thus is quite pleased that he's going to have his wardrobe issues addressed. Wrigley is a little more circumspect and keeps an ear out as the pair wander further down the street.

Wrigley perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24

"Well tell Fellock that it's not my fault if his men get ambushed near my shop!" comes the voice of Mr. Halswell.

"Oh, so you are not to have been hiring of adventurers for to be solving of problems? Me is no fool, Halswell. Fellock is no fool. You are one who is being fool. You are to be paying Fellock, or I am to be smashing of kneecaps," comes the gruff reply in heavily accented Shoanti. The sound of a coat rack, or similar item, slamming against the floor can be faintly heard from Wrigley and Aeslin's location.

@Aeslin: Love the shopping list so far. All those items (from both lists) are fine.

---

As always, Aeslin is completely oblivious to what is going on in the haberdashery.

Sebastian sense motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Sebastian perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7

Yep, this is Magnimar, so one (or more) will be available. Either hand wave it or feel free to make up an NPC, location, etc!

Aeslin and Wrigley walk back into the store. They see Mr. Halswell being held by the scruff of his collar, the Shoanti brute about to smash him in the face with a ham-sized fist. The Shoanti's shirt has shifted downwards in the struggle, and the pair can see a variety of tribal tattoos covering his upper body. They are all raised, providing texture as well as color.

Aeslin, knowledge (religion): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29
Wrigley, bardic knowledge: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18

Aeslin:
Aeslin recognizes the tattoos. They are not tribal markings at all, but various symbols relevant to Zon Kuthon. The ritual for inscribing one's body with such symbols is deliberately painful and often raises scar tissue such as on this man. The process often leaves the canvas in question somewhat immune to pain - well, not immune (that wouldn't do) so much as used to it.

"This is not being business of yours," growls the Shoanti, "This is being between me and Halswell here. If you don't want to be sharing his pain, you are to be leaving now, yes?"

The shopkeeper is panicked, but manages to mouth 'help me'. All's not well with Halswell.

Elon, Gratum and Sumaru

"Thief!" yells Platonius, in chorus with Gratum's assertion.

The crowd jostles around as everyone looks to their own purses. None seem terribly concerned with stopping the man in gold and green, but their concern for their own wealth is proving effective nonetheless.

By the way, Elon, totally up to you as to whether Platonius is in on the pick-pocketing thing or genuinely concerned that the gold is walking off with someone who won't be spending it with him.

As the pair approach the magic shop, Bazsil notes that he was correct about the half-orcs: they keep their distance and simply observe. The anthropologist looks up at the sign to the store. If there is one thing that Aeslin understands, it is when something isn't right. She might not like this shop, but she had nothing against the shopkeeper. Besides, as her daddy always said, 'always be on the lookout for new business opportunities'.

"No, I don't think I want any pain, but I don't think Haswell is in the mood for the so-called blessings of the Dark Prince, either. Why don't you put the nice man down, and we can talk about what's wrong."

She waits a moment, and sees that the big man is not going to put the Chelaxian shopkeep down, and just looks at him funny. Evil Eye hex for -2 to saves, followed by a cackle, just in case. DC15 save (1 round), lasts 7 rounds. Cackle extends by 1 round.

Seeing the large shoanti step up and begin swinging wildly at his precious Aeslin, Wrigley begins to strum on the instrument with increasing fervor and purpose. The escalating flight of the music now filtering through the air takes on a deadly serious and foreboding tone, mirroring the halfling's own feelings of dread and panic.

Suddenly, the strings under Wrigley's grasp whine, sending a shrill pitch reverberating off the shop walls. When the clear ringing has faded, oddly the melody now rising form the lute is calm and serene, mimicking pleasant cords of some long lost, ancestral lullaby.

"Come to me, friend," he says calmly. "You should pick on someone your own size."

"Unless you are frightened by halflings..." Wrigley voice is still pleasant, matching the tone and pitch of the lullaby, yet still laced with disdain for the brute.

Bazsil and Gado

"Yes, Rory, just a few things, for... ahh… Some work I am doing for Lord Krinst." Gado says, looking nervously over his shoulder. He was pretty sure he wasn't being followed, but it just occurred to him that if Mistress Lanvi sent any of her goons to canvas his regular shopping places, he didn't want to leave a trail.

Lord knows Lanvi doesn't have to twist Rory's arm too hard to give up information. She'll probably just send those two halflings over again. Ha! Rory would kill me if he knew I knew about that. An elf with a halfling fetish? I didn't even know there was such a thing as two halflings and a flumph until I scryed on Rory to make sure no one was watching his shop... Who does that?"

Gado smiles broadly at the pointy eared elf behind the counter, whose haughty attitude and smug smile do his elven heritage proud.

"Yes, so the Pavilion, the pearl of power, and I need a ring of sustenance.

Right.

I know.

That’s rude Rory.

You don't even care.

Are you even listening to me?

Whatever. So sometimes I study and forget to eat. This should help with that. And here is a list of scrolls I will need too. I'll be back to pick them up tomorrow with the tent. I'll take the ring and the pearl now. You know, you really are a dick, Rory."

Gado huffs and tries his best to let the elf's insults roll off his shoulders. The worst was that Rory would just ramble on as if nothing else mattered but the sound of his own voice.

Gado hated coming here, but there wasn’t another place that always had whatever he asked for, especially the oddball stuff. The trip was easier when he convinced himself that the elf was just jealous of his arcane prowess.

Heh... If you only knew what I knew. Hey, I'm leaving in a week, I should broadcast his next flumph session to the entire capital district. I can probably borrow the library’s crystal ball without anyone finding out.

”Well that was awkward.” Gado gives a half-smile to Baszil as they finally leave. ”So, what do you need to get?”

Shopping list to date:

Pavilion Tent - 100gp
Pearl of Power 1st - 1000gp
Ring of Sustenance - 2500gp (only have to sleep 2 hours to prepare spells! Also fits with his paranoia about starving to death, whenever he isn't paranoid about being stabbed by a sword beak, or eaten by a dinosaur)
Scrolls:

minor image – 150gp
mirror image – 150gp
levitate – 150gp
rope trick – 150gp
pyrotechnics – 150gp
haste – 375 gp

All scrolls will eventually be written into Gado’s spellbook. This brings me down to 187 gp, which I will hold on to. Looks like I won't be able to scribe much on the trip out, probably worth it to enhance the spellbook to start.

Have a quick read of the chase rules. I will be using the mechanics from this verbatim. Post as much color as you like! Let me know if you have any questions in the discussion thread (too crowded here). I've done a few of these now, so ask me (discussion also) if you want some tips.

Let's give this a go...

Attempting to move past an obstacle (ie. a 'card') is a move action, so you get two per round. Take another one! Also, according to the card, getting through the crowd is either a bull rush attempt (vs CMD 15) to push through, or a diplomacy or intimidate check vs DC 15 to get them to move out of the way for you. If you have a cool spell or other ability that feels like it should bypass the obstacle, I can allow it. Also, your speed is 20ft, so you unfortunately need to take -2 on all your checks. Choose again and roll again. :-)

Bazsil enters the shop liking Gado more than he thought he would. Normally, he would ignore the little man, but since he was useful and walking the same path, Bazsil is happy with the man's company.

Best part about him? He's not a dwarf. Or eighthling. Or halfsie.

"Rory's Curios and Celebrations," Bazsil reads aloud. His is no idiot, but no genius either. He is 'smart' in other ways, not necessarily that of knowing things like facts or numbers. But people...and situations, Bazsil understands. Like the two halfsies outside...

Bazsil grabs Gado before he can shop too much and brings him to the window.

"This is why we shall be friends, Little Man," Baz swivels Gado so he can see out a window, see the half-orcs. "See them? Do you see the half-orc there? The ugly one? Yes!? They have been following us. Either they mean to rob us, or they are friends of your 'friend'. A moment ago there were two of them, now there is just one. Do you see?"

Bazsil waits for the man to see.

After Gado has seen, Bazsil approaches Rory with is own shopping list. He assumes he won't be treated as rudely as Gado, mostly because Bazsil is *not* Gado and might just smash up the place if treated rudely.

Pushed? No, surely not. I was just keeping pace with Gado! ;-) Besides, I love everything bagels. Now I want to try Dutch crunch.

"Oh, your here with a list too?" asks Rory, genuinely surprised, "Been a while since that bum Gado actually increased my customer base." As before, Bazsil isn't quite sure if Rory thinks he is giving Gado a friendly ribbing or genuinely dislikes the man. Either way, the delivery is not friendly.

"Let me see here," Rory muses, adjusting his spectacles, "Got the first three items in stock, actually. Excellent choices all, they are some of my more popular items. I've had feather tokens before, but not for a while now. You'll probably have to leave town a bit to find a druid who'll make one for you. I think there's a druid's grove to the east. Ribald, was it? He's sold me some items in the past. I could order it for you, but he's pretty close by and it'd be quicker to get it from him directly."

Rory scratches his chin at the rest of his list, "I'm afraid the rest of these items aren't the kind of thing I usually stock. A barber would have the last two and any spelunking supply store would have the kit here. As for poetry... I guess a book store. My favorite is Webb's Antique Tomes, but any poetry you find there is like to be very old fashioned."

Rory gathers the curios, clearly in no hurry, and places them on the counter. "Now, would you like a bag for that, or would you like to use your own haversack?" He delivers the last like a man who has told the joke dozens of times and is still waiting for someone to 'get it'.

Gado's heart skips a beat at the realization that they were being followed.

"Yes... very good friends..." He says, somewhat dumbfounded.

"Idea!" Gado grabs the new pearl from Bazsil and focuses, recalling the words of power for his spell of armor. With a flourish, he takes his new rod and casts a spell on Bazsil, bringing forth a shimmering veil of force around the street-wise warrior that quickly disappears, though its power remains.

Pearl of power to recall mage armor, cast on Bazsil with the rod of extend for 6 hours of protection.

"Something tells me we will be seeing them again, sometime soon..." Gado says, looking around for the second half of the half-orc pair.

Reserving the right to swap out a few items on the list. It was meant to be tentative, but kind of like the idea of sinking the boat when Bazsil accidentally shouts the command word for the tree token in his sleep.

"My new 'sack, if you would," Bazsil smiles as purchases are made. There are not his items, but on loan from the Captain, but still he will treasure them as his own. His mother had left him very little, his father even less...and that he owned everything he had on his body (which, granted, isn't very much) he was proud that he owned it. Lucy was *his* and he had earned it. "I will let you know about the feather token, thank you."

1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16 Sense Motive - shopkeeper hate Gado?

Bazsil returns to focus on Gado and the halfsies. It is clear that Bazsil does not consider the half-orc to be a threat, let alone two of them. Still, he flexes his arms appreciatively as the magic armor encompasses him.

"This is nice...it does not hamper my arms or movement," Bazsil flexes again. "I can wear this when I get angry...which is good."

Baz looks to see if the half-orc is where he left them to buy his goods. He clasps Gado on the shoulder

"So...this is interesting, yes? Did the half-orcs split up so that one might guard the back exit so we don't slip away unseen? Or did that one go find the rest of their gang? How long will it take them to return? We have not been that long...and maybe they are far away, meaning that we can go 'incapacitate' that one so that the others do not follow us when they show up."

Bazsil looks at Gado.

"What do you think we should do?"

Bazsil and Gado

Bazsil thinks the shopkeeper is just being overly familiar with Gado, but there is definitely some truth to his words - making them cut deeper than he perhaps intends. Perhaps. Bazsil is not completely sure.

Looking subtly out the window again, the pair notice that the half-orc is still alone and still visible, but he has moved much closer to the store. He is now trying to appear nonchalant as he paces underneath an elm tree in the courtyard outside. Ye gods, the brute even appears to be attempting to whistle.

@Gratum: please do take a second move action. I did a retcon for your acrobatics - so you get the whole round actions (so you can do to moves). Take on that second card, buddy!
