:: Assault on Oreld's Fine Shop ::

Rounding the corner of the building, Daniil sees two things he would rather not. One is Oreld, laid out beside the door with a javelin embedded in his gut, no sign of pain or life shows in his face. The other if a third hobgoblin, halberd leaning against the wall with food in its hands. Its face has a surprised look upon it as you come around the building.

I stopped you short of the door Daniil. I figured you would want some space to use your bow. If that is not the case feel free to start your next turn at the door way.

Olivia thrusts her bardiche through the window at the hobgoblin Surprise round action.

Bardiche: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

It smacks into the side of the building unfortunately.

The hobgoblin in the window steps back, pulling a round object from a bandolier as he does so. He slips a small vial into it and hurls it at Olivia in one swift motion.

Thrown Object vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Falcon reflex: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21

The object hits Olivia, shattering and exploding Olivia takes 3 VP damage. Some of the explosion carries and sprays Falcon, though he dodges most of it Falcon takes 1 VP in damage.

Unimpressed Olivia steps forward and strikes again 1st round action.

Bardiche: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Her stature makes it difficult to reach through the window properly however and she misses.

Lirosa moves to take the flank, trying to round the building as Solace steps over to fire through the window. Firing, Solace's arrow hits the hobgoblin in the arm, injuring it.

Elyas moves to get around the building as well, while Falcon looks on unsure of what to do, and moves a bit to get out of others way.

The hobgoblin backs up another step and throws a bomb at Solace the window and Olivia provide partial cover.

Thrown Object vs Touch AC: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Grenade Location: 1d8 ⇒ 6

Reflex Solace: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Reflex Olivia: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

The bomb manages to nick Olivia's bardiche and flies off course, landing between Solace and Olivia to their left. As the bomb goes off they are both hit with the splash, though Olivia's armor protects her from most of it Solace takes 3 splash damage, Olivia takes 1.

The other hobgoblins grab their halberds, the one across from Daniil dropping its meal to do so. The two inside come out, halting in the doorway when they see Daniil. The one was outside already prepares for combat.

Everyone is up.

@Daniil - The number of buildings not to code has bugged me as well haha. Honestly the mapping is the one part of the AP I feel could have used some work. Originally the AP only has the door in Oreld's, no rear window. Their style of building design makes most places have only about 1 option on how to deal with it.

Ian tumbles in through the back window after Olivia, shifting beside her. The situation was dire, and fear fueled Ian's desperation. Desperation caused him to unleash a third blast of disorienting light, one that envelops two of the hobgoblins. Olivia feels the light pass by her, but is just barely unaffected. "Leave them alone!" he shouts.

Ian moves into the building and casts color spray again. It should affect purple dot hobgoblin and green hobgoblin but not Olivia. DC 14 Will saves to avoid.

Sander, Claustipher, Elyas, Solace, Taerus, Taidel, and the elemental all rush forward, trying to create an opening for them to help. The elemental may actually just be following Claustipher.

Falcon, no need to roll acrobatics for obstacles this small. I generally assume people can mantle obstacles about half their height. This does present a problem for Olivia though.

Olivia Climb vs DC 5: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 - 2 = 13 The jump DC is 30 so I figured climb would work better.

The window being a bit less than four feet off the ground, Ian and Falcon can easily clamber through. It takes Olivia a bit more effort but she manages as well.

Olivia and Falcon both miss in their attacks against the hobgoblin. Ian manages to line up two of them though and tries to knock them out.

Clautipher begins casting detect magic as he looks the room over.

Ian sighs, picking himself off of the floor and wiping his mouth. "You're right, Claustipher..." he says. "We need to go now or it's gonna be us that's dead."

He joins in helping to search the room, making a cursory check while the more martially-inclined people in the group run off to join more fighting. The magic that he's spent so far has left him exhausted, and the murder that he's just done has left him confused and emotional.

:: Searching through Oreld's Fine Shop ::

Searching through Oreld's is a gruesome task. The faces of your former friends and acquaintances look up at you as you go through the front room. In the front room you find:

2 x potion of cure light wounds
potion of invisibility
3 x alchemist’s fire
antitoxin
healer’s kit
5 x oil
2 x smokestick
2 x tanglefoot bag
2 x thunderstone
3 x daggers
heavy mace
hooded lantern
3 x halberd
3 x studded leather armor
15 lbs food
6 gallons water
28 gp

on the body of the dead hobgoblins, and

3 x vials of antiplague
5 x bottles of bloodblock
bottle of fire ward gel
2 x flasks of defoliant

scattered about the shop and a well-used marble mortar and pestle sitting on the desk.

I listed the potions by name as Claustipher can take 10 on spellcraft and know what they are.

As Elyas opens the door to the back room, Sander enters the front room and glances around and shouts "Don't open that door!". You'll get a +4 circumstantial AC bonus at least.

Trap Attack vs Elyas Touch AC 14: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 6

As Elyas opens the door a part of the wall above it opens and a ceramic holding pot pours a liquid on him that starts to blister his skin Elyas takes 6 damage.

Through the door, you can all see just an empty back room. As Elyas calls out however, the rug lifts up and a familiar face appears under a trap door in the floor. Janine Goldheart lifts herself from the hidden cellar and is followed out by Talgrum.

"Elyas! Are you okay! Oreld meant that to be for the hobgoblins!" Janine says when she sees what has happened to her student. "Where is he? He went out to try and convince them we weren't here. Is he..." Her voice trails off as she sees the carnage in the front room. She chokes back a sob and her eyes shut.

A quick search of the backroom yields a locked cabinet that Oreld like has the key to, Oreld's workstation which has enough equipment that you could easily take it and sue it as an alchemy lab, and notes on a new chemical Oreld was trying to create to help remove stumps.

The cellar holds nothing of value now that the townsfolk have left it.

:: Townsfolk in Distress ::

After a short run you can see the townsfolk. They look distressed, Nathaniel, Marcus, and Kalleb all bleeding from wounds, blades held in shaking hands. Lorne and Malcolm firing rocks and arrows afraid, of what they face.

Beside them stands a bugbear. It moves easily, toying with them and has no obvious wounds. It doesn't even look tired.

First Round - Olivia, Daniil, Solace, Falcon, Townsfolk, Bugbear

The four at the fight are up. Those who stayed behind are two rounds away once they leave. More actions in Oreld's will take more time obviously.

I have updated the combat map to be of the fight with the bigbear.

Following on Claustipher's heels, the earth elemental enters the shop with a shudder. "Ngidabukile ngalaba bantu" it says while holding onto Claustiphers pant leg, eyes downcast.

Undercommonish:
"I am sad for these people"

Forgot to put that in the other post.

Take what weapons you can, we'll join up with the others and get out of this town!

Updated the loot chart. Once we get everyone together we can split the consumables up a bit

Sander questions the villagers that were barricaded in Oreld's. "Did anyone see Sarae? Sarae Knott?" His search of Oreld's appears to find no sign of her, not even a body. The Goddess is with her. Surely we will meet again. He hears sounds of fighting to the north.

:: Searching through Oreld's Fine Shop ::

"Sarae? She was here just before the attack happened, but I think she was outside. A lot of people were dragged off." Janine says.

"Aye, Oreld and I tried to get as many people as possible into the cellar as it was happening. We managed to get people into the shop." Talgrum speaks with a look of guilt of his face "I ran back here to open the trap door and started helping Janine down. When I looked up Oreld was closing the door and arming the trap. A few seconds latter I heard him to bargain with the hobgoblins, then the screaming started."

Tears welling in his eyes Talgrum spits out "I was hired to protect the place from thieves and rough housing, not defend it from an army." a pleading look on his face as he looks to Sander.

From Oreld's body, Elyas finds a key and goes into the locked cabinet. Inside the cabinet he finds:

20 lbs of alchemical ingredients worth 200 gp (can be used to craft 600 gp of alchemical goods)

As the items are being collected, Claustipher points out an oddity in the cabinets interior. A but of prying by Elyas opens up a hidden compartment. Inside are two envelopes filled with dust.

Elyas Spellcraft on Envelope 2 vs DC 21: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

Claustipher identifies the first envelope as being full of Dust of Tracelessness and Elyas identifies the second as being full of Dust of Illusion.

Janine and Talgrum gather up the food, and Talgrum grabs the heavy mace to compliment the armor he had on from guard duty.

The group heads out after the others.

You will arrive after two rounds, so the start of round 4 you can contribute. If there is anything else you would like to investigate in the Shop before leaving let me know.

:: Townsfolk in Distress ::

Falcon and Daniil land a blow, with Solace's arrow flying high. The townsfolk let out a subdued cheer and slowly back off, trying to save themselves for another fight.

Taidel and Lirosa move into position to help cover the four of you and to retreating townsfolk.

Enraged at his sport being taken, and bloodied from the assault the bugbear turns and strikes at Falcon with its morning star. As the weapon comes down, Falcon realizes he left himself open and the weapon will strike his chest. Out of no where, Olivia's bardiche slips into sight, knocking the weapon aside.

After thanking Olivia, Falcon rams his weapon into the bugbears gut, killing it.

With the beast down, the townsfolk look visibly calmer. After a few more moments, the rest out your groups catches up with two more townsfolk from Oreld's.

I will post about getting to the bridge either later tonight or tomorrow. Feel free to roleplay while you wait now that the fights over.

Again, if people wanted to investigate more at Oreld's, the surrounding houses, etc let me know, otherwise its to the bridge!
