Ironclaw: The Will to Power
Game Master
UltraFennec
An Ironclaw: Squaring the Circle game set in the environs of Triskellian, with potential to expand further. Focused on the intrigue and violence surrounding the conflicts between the rising Guilds, with a lighthearted base tone.
Hopefully we also have Ceallach in the group too...
I mean an Phelan wolf ativatist is hard to miss, but in this group of egoists and foreigners he might be the one overlooked by everyone.
I'll be making my next IC post soon...perhaps even tonight. Leads will be turning up for everyone to follow separately or together as is their preference. If you have a particular intention regarding immediate actions aside from what you've already posted, please inform me.
Or would people just prefer I make an infodump and move to meeting at the Wand and Flagon, and just do a separate spoiler for Ceallach who obviously doesn't want to wait to start things with some nasty wolves?
I would guess start a second spoiler for Ceallach. I hope he's not this stand-offish later in the game. Loners are cool to read about, but don't do well in group games.
And yes, please set us all up at the Wand and Flagon. Now that Natalia has had her little social triumph over Rosza, lets all get back together.
He's not trying to do loner things. Now that he knows he's leaving, he just doesn't see a point in staying in the city any longer. He'll be waiting patiently where he feels more comfortable. I certainly don't intend on charging off by myself whenever I feel like it.
Just worried, because we are more than likely going be be doing a lot of talking in the bar. Nature of the game, and all.
I'm just worried you will get left out.
While typically true, I will say that I tend to push people toward action as much as possible in my games rather than talking about action.
Obviously what you end up saying/doing is still your choice, but I'll be presenting a number of things shortly that provide venues of action to be taken if you want to follow up on them.
Was going to post my followup to Ceallach today, and anything else people wanted to know if they'll tell me, but then I sort of had things to attend, people to socialize with, and generally forgot about everything. Oops!
I'll second Natalia's post there. Go ahead since you seem ready to Madonna de Vieuxpont.
Advertising spot here: Sanguine Games (the people who make Ironclaw) are doing a Kickstarter for the Book of Jade, the 2E update of Jadeclaw, which is this world's Indo-China fantasy analogue. I believe the project is actually already at its minimum funding goal, but the Kickstarter also functions as a preorder gate of sorts, since all the pledge rewards past a certain amount net you the book (in differing formats) as well.
I'm gonna leave the link to it here, and encourage everyone that can manage it to grab the book this way while you can. Supporting Sanguine means more cool toys for us to play with!
Oh dear! I seem to have been selected to participate in a demo session of Ironclaw for interested and new players.
I don't actually know WHEN this is supposed to happen, but it's apparently going to be livestreamed like Norman Rafferty's games are, so y'all can watch the GM bumble about in public with a game system he's not yet mastered.
Bonus points for attempting transvirtualism with people I don't know that can hear me speak in my natural voice.
Heads up everyone, I'll be dragging two other victims into the game kicking and screaming soon, and we need to make a bit more progress before we hit the place to bring them in that makes the most sense.
If nobody has time for long posts, that's cool. We can do short back and forths and whatnot. Also, this probably should go without saying, but if we all wait for the narratively correct moment to post we're probably never going to get anywhere at all, so let's try not to worry about that too much. If it really bothers you, put the post you're replying to in a quote box, or spoiler tag it within your own so we know what's going on.
I've been a bit busy, but I'll be posting my decision on your last two accomplices tomorrow. I'm not sure where everyone else is, but that's what the PM system is for! Speaking of which...
James Reaver and Delroy will be joining your merry fun time band at the appropriate spot as soon as we can get there.
@Quinn: Question. When we have the Book of Jade in our hands, would you like to re-do Quinn with a Career and Gifts and such appropriate to her homeland, or just stick with what you've got?
I will stick with what I have, no point breaking consistency and it would possibly bring the character into question which I'd like to avoid. I might look at it as she goes up in lvl though.
I beginning to wonder if I should just go traipsing of to noble houses all by my little lonesome, but maybe I've been spoiled by my other pbp games the two I started at the same time as this one are at 234 posts and 144 posts already.
While you probably could do that, I'm not sure how far you'd get with that approach...and yeah, things have prevented us from moving really quickly, and that's partly my fault.
As for breaking consistency, nobody's actually used anything involved with their career except for Natalia really, so you haven't really made a consistent character to break from yet.
If you did go the rebuild route (which honestly I like, but it's your choice and I'm all about choice) I'd straight up retcon it if such was even necessary. I don't really stand on ceremony much when it comes to the players of my games, and I think the group could manage to not be blindsided by a change if it happened. Just my 2 cents.
I know, right? I think I'm going to familiarize myself with the new stuff by statting up the major characters from the Kung Fu Panda movies.
@Delroy: And if you'd be so kind as to copy/paste your sheet into that alias's profile space, I'd be happy. Sometimes my computer hates Dropbox, sometimes it hates the internet in general.
My characters are generally built as far as mentality goes and their history and such is in my head in a way that I can not express everything about a character but trying to change from that, even if it wouldn't retcon anything, would mess up the character in my head so to speak.
Every character of mine is built like a mask(or full cosplay suit) and I literally slip into the crafted mindset of the character if that mindset went and changed the mask becomes flawed, adding to it is easy but changing the fundamentals of the character is most difficult to do well.
I might take a look and if something fits but is not related to what is set already in my mind I might consider it.
As long as it can handle monospaced secretary-level formatting, we're all good. I'm on it.
Delroy is familiar both with the Muire Woods and Dunwasser, I wasn't sure what to park down for a concrete "Local Area Knowledge" I hope this suffices.

edit I call dibs on playing the turtle master!
I tend to 'Charactarize' my creations in the same way. It's all very nebulous and hard to describe. Like you're cherry-picking personality traits that you don't have names for, all based on the career, species, and such that you were lead to choose by some random muse.
I can see how you might have difficulty transferring from one Career type to another, given that each Magical Career has so much 'flavour' to it. I do think the JadeClaw analogue to Thaumaturgy is Changes Magic, but given the way the system has changed I have no idea of what to expect from it.
I call Po, just because I like Pandas, and Po is the perfect Taoist. (I don't mean Wizard)
Black Tortoise style for the win.
OooooK, it seems I may need to have someone walk through the door with a gun in their hand (figuratively), eh? We've ground to a halt waiting on a response, exactly what I was trying to avoid.
OK, I'll think of some way to move things along without it grating too much on continuity. And think of ways to keep the game from being held up like this in the future.
Well, now that we've got our other two entries and completed the group, I have one more question for everyone:
Are there any hooks and whatnot in the book/books that intrigue you particularly, that you'd like to involve in the game somehow? If so, please tell me so I can plan to work them in.
And now, a Public Service Announcement: somewhere around 6-7 PM EST time Thursday (tomorrow), I and a bunch of other people will (if technology cooperates) be subjected to demo-ing Ironclaw via Maptools, Skype, and if things go well a Livestream of the game.
My apologies guys. First the cat, then everything else in my life came up and exploded. Literally. New apartment manager, decided to bump the rent by 21% or we're evicted (which meant evicted, because we can't afford it) and things have just gone a bit crazy the past week trying to deal with it all. So it's packing time and find a place to stay time, because we've basically got a week to figure things out and a month after that if we want to pay at the higher rate which we really can't afford to.
Ta-da. S'il vous plaît pardonnez-moi. Life's sucking. I've taken the rest of the week off to apartment hunt but I will make a point of checking here to post at least once a night. Sorry again.
I'm not even sure if it'll work, If I was the GM I'd let it happen for the humorous aspect, but I'm not, and I never try to tell others how to run their games.
It just felt like something that Delroy would do. If it does end up working, no hard feelings, at least out of character?
I dont care about anything that happens in game, Im just sad my badass posturing that ends the noble stalemating will have ended prematurely xD
Edit: and as an aside I wasn't trying to be scary, that's just how James is, hes grown up on a pirate ship his whole so any semblance of authority that isn't the naval chain of command, he has no recognition of.
